Spread music throughout your home

The Sonos One SL wireless powered speaker is just about the easiest way to bring music into a room. You can stream from Spotify® Premium, Apple Music®, Rhapsody®, SiriusXM, and internet radio stations. Enjoy songs stored on your home computer or portable device. Add a second One SL, or other Sonos device, and you've got the makings of a wireless multi-room audio system. And that's just for starters.

Spread music throughout your home

Sonos One SL

The compact Sonos One SL fits just about anywhere in a room. (Requires AC power.)

Expand to any (or every) room

Your Sonos One SL can be part of a larger multi-room audio system. Place Sonos players like the Amazon Alexa and Google Home compatible Sonos One (Gen 2) in every room where you want to listen to music.

You can set up the players to work on your existing Wi-Fi® network. Or you can connect any Sonos speaker to your network router, and Sonos will create its own dedicated wireless network for even better performance. You can also use a Boost to create this network if you can't place a speaker near your router.

Get a pair for stereo music or wireless surround sound

The Sonos One SL by itself delivers rich, full sound. You can also wirelessly pair it with another Sonos One SL or Sonos One (Gen 2) in the same room for spacious two-channel stereo music. You can also use Sonos One SL speakers as wireless rear-channel speakers with a Sonos sound bar and SUB, creating an immersive 5.1 home theater sound system.

The Sonos app gives you easy wireless control

Download the free Sonos control app to your smartphone or tablet. Now your device can control not only your Sonos One SL, but any and all other Sonos devices in your home. Have all your Sonos speakers play the same song, or have each one play something different — simultaneously.

Easily navigate and search through playlists and tracks stored on your computer, or select an internet radio station. Create customized playlists on the fly for individual rooms or for playback over your entire Sonos system. You can also mute or adjust the volume of each of your players.

Compatible with Apple AirPlay 2

The Sonos One SL has Apple AirPlay 2 built in. That means you can stream audio directly from your iPhone®, iPad®, or Mac® computer through your Sonos system. That includes soundtracks from YouTube® videos and Netflix movies.

Trueplay speaker tuning for optimal sound

If you use your Sonos control app on an Apple device, you can use it to fine-tune the Sonos One SL with Sonos's Trueplay feature. It uses the mic built into your device to measure how the sound reflects off your walls and furnishings, and then it adjusts the speaker's settings for the best possible sound.

Custom Built Drivers + Class D Amplifiers: Built on the same blueprints of the Play:1, the Sonos One SL is backed by a pair of Class-D amplifiers and custom-built drivers, meticulously tuned to the speaker's unique acoustic architecture. A single 1" tweeter creates a crisp and clear high-frequency response, while one 3.5" mid-woofer ensures you'll hear the faithful playback of midrange vocal frequencies plus deep, rich midbass. The Sonos One SL provides pure, clean sound that is perfect for bringing room filling music to a kitchen, bedroom, office, or just about any room in your home. Adjustable bass & treble controls within the Sonos Controller app let you customize your sound by individual room or groups of rooms.

Sonos Wireless Multiroom Audio Eco-System: The One SL is part of the Sonos wireless multiroom audio eco-system consisting of a family of wireless network speakers, players, and amplifiers. Start with a single Sonos product and add more Sonos products over time. With multiple zones, you can play the same or different songs in different rooms of your home. Compatible distributed audio sources include internet radio, online music services, local network music libraries, as well as hardwired inputs. Up to 32 Sonos devices and 16 groups can be connected in one system. The Sonos One SL is compatible with the new Sonos S2 operating system (OS) and does not support the older Sonos S1 operating system (OS).

  • Sonos S2 OS Compatible Products: The Sonos Five, One SL, Roam, ARC, Sub (Gen 3), and any Sonos products released after May 2020 will only be compatible with Sonos S2.
  • Sonos S2 and S1 OS Compatible Products: The Sonos Play:1, Play:3, Play:5 (Gen 2), Playbase, Playbar, Connect (Gen 2), Connect:Amp (Gen 2), One (Gen 1/2), Beam, Amp, Port, Boost, Move, and Sub (Gen 1/2) support both Sonos S2 and S1 operating systems.
  • Sonos S1 OS Compatible Products: The Sonos CR200 Controller, Zone Player, Bridge, Connect (Gen 1), Connect: Amp (Gen 1), and Play: 5 (Gen 1) will only support the older S1 operating system.

Notes:

  • If you have both, older "legacy" Sonos products and newer Sonos products in your system, you have the option to create two separate eco-systems - one that will be controlled with the older Sonos S1 controller app and the other that will be controlled by the newer Sonos S2 controller app.
  • Click here for more information regarding Sonos "Legacy" S1 versus the new Sonos S2 Operating System and App.

Trueplay Tuning: Trueplay software (for Apple iOS only) dynamically tunes the speaker to the unique acoustics of the room. Trueplay puts the speaker-tuning capability of the pros in the palm of your hands, customizing the sound of the speaker to the unique acoustics of the room. The layout of a room, and where a speaker is placed, can have a significant impact on the sound that you hear. Trueplay, an auto-tune app within the Sonos S2 App, uses the microphone in your Apple iOS device to measure how sound reflects off walls, furnishings and other surfaces in a room, and then fine tunes the Sonos One SL speaker to make sure it sounds great no matter where you've placed it. The Sonos One SL speakeralready sounds fantastic, but Trueplay brings you even closer to how music should sound. Completing Trueplay tuning for a room takes approximately 3 minutes from start to finish.

  • Apple iOS Compatible: In order to perform Trueplay tuning, the Sonos S2 app for iPhone, iPad or iPod touch running iOS 11.0 or higher is required. This includes iPhone 4s and higher, iPad 2 and higher, as well as iPod touch 5th generation and higher. Trueplay tuning is not available if the "VoiceOver" feature is enabled on your Apple iOS device. Trueplay is currently not compatible with Android.
  • 1Ch/1.1ch & 2Ch/2.1Ch Tuning: Trueplay can be used with a single speaker setup, two speakers configured as a stereo pair, or either of these configurations with the Sonos Sub added.
Note: You will need to retune the Sonos One SL speaker using TruePlay, if you move the speaker within the same room or to another room, change the orientation of speaker (horizontal vs. vertical), or change the configuration of the speaker setup (going from a single speaker to a stereo pair for example).

Stereo or Multichannel System Compatible: You can use two Sonos One SL speakers in a stereo pair - one speaker acts as a dedicated left, while the other speaker acts as a dedicated right. Two Sonos One SL speakers can also be used to create a wireless 5.1ch surround sound experience with the Sonos ARC, Playbar, Playbase, Beam and Sub . Now you don't have to run wires to a powered sub or rear speakers to enjoy true 5.1ch audio.

  • Stereo & Multichannel pairing requires that all the sonos speakers be on the same Sonos S1 ("legacy") or S2 ("new") operarting system using the same S1 or S2 controller app.
  • The Sonos One SL can also be used in a stereo or multichannel application with the Sonos One (1st or 2nd Gen). It does not support the Play:1, Play:3, or Play:5.

Mounting Options: You can place the Sonos One SL wherever you find the sound most enjoyable. Its compact size makes it easy to place the One SL on your desk, the kitchen counter, or on your nightstand. Integrated rubber feet protect your furniture and keep the Sonos One SL secure. The One SL is even designed to withstand high humidity, such as in a bathroom with a running shower. However, the One SL is not waterproof or water resistant.

Notes: There are no integrated keyholes slots, threaded inserts, or bracket on back of the speaker to wall-mount the Sonos One SL. However, you can use optional wall-mount brackets (sold separately - see Accessories Tab) which are specifically designed to wall mount the Sonos One SL.

Detachable AC Power Cord: The Sonos One SL operates on standard household current using the supplied detachable 6.5' AC power cord. The Sonos One SL is not battery powered.

Variety Of Music Sources

Two Ways to Connect Wirelessly: In order to enjoy internet radio, online music services, your local network music libraries and Apple AirPlay 2, you'll need to connect the Sonos One SL speaker to your home's wireless network router and ISP (internet service provider). Sonos brings your great sounding music wirelessly to any room in your house, without a big wiring project through WiFi or its SonosNet mesh network.

  • WiFi Wireless Network: Sonos can also operate over your home's existing WiFi network (802.11 b/g/n/ac; 2.4/5GHz). Because you are connecting wirelessly to your home's existing WiFi network, you do not need to hardwire a Sonos Boost to your router/modem. The Sonos system's wireless range will be dependent on your home's existing WiFi network. Sonos products manufactured after March 2014 are loaded with the proper firmware and ready to go out of the box for WiFi connectivity. All Sonos products manufactured prior to that date will require a wired connection to facilitate a firmware upgrade and  hereafter they will be able to work over WiFi.
  • SonosNet Wireless Mesh Network: Sonos can utilize its own SonosNet proprietary wireless mesh network technology to provides superior wireless range for whole-house coverage, ensure synchronous music playback, and avoid sources of wireless interference. The transmitting range of the Sonos wireless system is approximately 100', depending upon your home's layout. In addition to the Sonos One SL, you will need a Sonos Boost (sold separately) connected to your network router/modem via a Ethernet cable.
Notes:
  • You cannot connect the Sonos system via both the SonosNet proprietary mesh network and WiFi; you will need to choose one. Sonos recommends using its proprietary SonosNet wireless mesh network over WiFi when applicable.
  • The Sonos proprietary mesh network will provide a more secure wireless connection with fewer interruptions for optimum performance.
  • WiFi is subject to greater interference from other WiFi and 2.4GHz or 5GHz devices on your network.

Ethernet Port (10/100 Mbps): In addition to its built-in SonosNet Wireless Mesh Network and WiFi, the Sonos One SL is also equipped with one Ethernet port (10/100 Mbps). Use it to wire directly to your router to operate Sonos if WiFi is unstable, or use the Ethernet port to provide Internet accessibility to non-wireless devices if you're using a SonosNET Boost setup.

System Requirements

Internet Service Provider: You'll need a high-speed, wired internet service provider connection such as cable, fiber, or DSL. Wireless internet connections such as satellite, mobile hotspots, or 4G LTE routers can experience delays between the internet connection and Sonos and are not supported. Using these types of connections can cause music to not play, skip, or cut out completely.

Wireless Setup: All Sonos products support 2.4GHz WiFi (802.11 b/g) and Open, WEP, and WPA/WPA2 Personal WiFi security standards. Some newer Sonos products support dual-band 2.4/5GHz WiFi (802.11 b/g/n/ac) and WPA3.

  • The network must not contain enterprise access points that have been configured to require certificates or other forms of enterprise authentication. If you are using multiple access points, make sure they are all set to the same 2.4GHz or 5GHz wireless channel.
  • Networks using wireless range extenders are known to cause issues with Sonos systems that are configured in a wireless setup. If you need to extend your home WiFi to use Sonos in a wireless setup, we recommend using a WiFi mesh router to do so.
  • Sonos cannot connect to guest networks or networks that use a Port page to login.

Wired Setup Requirements: A Sonos system operating in a wired setup will require one of your Sonos products to remain connected to the router via Ethernet cable at all times. If your Sonos system is in a wired setup and you use a WiFi mesh router with multiple wireless nodes, we recommend wiring your Sonos product directly to the primary wired mesh node. Avoid wiring any Sonos products to the wireless mesh nodes. If you are on a corporate or advanced network, it must not block Spanning Tree Protocol (STP).

Note: Ethernet over Power devices (also known as HomePlugs or Powerline adaptors) are not supported by Sonos. While they may work for some systems, they tend to cause intermittent problems with Sonos. EoP adapters create an added delay between your network and Sonos. If the internet connection is too slow or the delay is too great, it can cause your music to skip or cut out completely or your players to drop off from the network.

Sonos S1 or S2 Controller App: Sonos offers a Sonos Controller app for Apple iOS 14.0+, Android OS 8.0+, Fire OS 7.0, Mac OSX 10.11+, and Windows 8+. The Sonos S2 is a new app and operating system (OS) that powers the next generation of products and experiences. In addition to new features, usability updates, and more personalization moving forward, Sonos S2 enables higher resolution audio technologies for music and home theater. Most Sonos products are compatible with S2. Some older Sonos "legacy" products will not support the advances of S2 due to their memory and processing power. Q
Will the Sonos One SL speaker work with a Audio-Technica AT-LP60X-BT turntable?
tom  May 21, 2023
1 answer
A
Thank you for your question, Tom. This speaker will not work with the Audio-Technica AT-LP60X turntable. The Sonos speaker doesn't have Bluetooth built in. I recommend giving one of our Advisors a call at 1-800-324-9695 they'll be able to help match up a turntable and speaker for you.

Q
Can I send music to more than one Sonos One SL in the house? I want to have multiple speakers throughout the house and have them all play the same music from one iPad. I have a Sonos One SL I bought in 2020 and will add more if I can do this.

That's the beauty of Sonos, Carl! As long as your additional Sonos components are within your Wi-fi network, you can connect and control all from the Sonos app. If you are using Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant voice control you would want to use the Sonos One in the link below. We have you covered, however many you need to add! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_616ONE2BK/Sonos-One-Black.html

Q
How to connect two One SL speakers as side speakers in a home theater system?
elving  Jan 25, 2022

A
I have not done it, but 2 can be paired in a stereo combination through the settings. They can also be made the background pair in conjunction with one of Sonos sound bars. You can not do this if you are using components other than Sonos as far as I know. Timing will be a major issue with wired vs wireless connections.
michael  Jan 25, 2022
A
I believe you can only connect a One SL (or any other Sonia speaker) to an Arc or Beam for them to work with a TV. Otherwise you would need a Sonos Amp, which has RCA ports to connect to a Home Theater system. The One's would join by wireless connection via the Amp.

Sonos makes it easy. Simply add product in the Sonos app by clicking the "gear" symbol in the lower right corner in settings, navigate to "system" and then "+ add product". Then name it as rear right or left or whatever you want to name it and then save it. Love the Sonos environment!

Q
Can Sonos One or Sonos One SL be used for a roof covered outdoor terrace? What is the difference between Sonos One vs Sonos One SL?
javier  Dec 16, 2021

A
I wouldn't utilize that particular speaker in an outdoor setting (even a covered terrace) but you might want to direct that question to Sonos......there might be other factors involved such as temperature variability, etc. IIRC, the difference between the 2 speakers was that One SL allowed integration of Apple Music into the Sonos app

Sonos One has voice control, I did not think that was necessary since I control the speakers from my cell phone. The speakers should work great under cover, just keep in mind they do need 120 volts to operate so you will have to plug them into an outlet. You might also consider the Sonos Move, which is portable and does not need an outlet, only for recharging the battery. Sonos are great speakers with outstanding support from Crutchfield and Sonos if necessary. Very easy to set up, just follow the instructions on the Sonos app. Hope this helps

I have seen the Sonos One used in a number of places outdoors in a protected location. I think Sonos' official position is that they are not for outdoor use, but as long as it is protected from water/rain/snow/ice, it is probably going to be ok. I have outdoor speakers that I use a Sonos Connect Amp to power. The amp lives indoors, and the speakers are rated for outdoor use. Something to consider. I believe that the difference between the SL and non-SL is that the SL does not have microphones, and thus does not support voice assistants (e.g. Amazon Alexa).

How well do the Sonos devices work when operating from multiple devices (e.g. smart phone) at the same time? e.g. Start playing from deviceA, then control from deviceB.

I haven't tried simultaneous control, but they work from multiple devices so I imagine this isn't an issue. The device has to be on the same network as the Sonos device.

SONOS products work well using multiple control devices. My wife and I successfully use our phones, tablets, PCs and a MAC all interchangeably to control the SONOS devices.

The Sonos system performs seamlessly, no matter what device you use to control it from wherever you are in the house. I use 2 different iPads or an iPhone and have no issues. I love my Sonos system. I have the Soundbar, speakers in my 3 bedrooms, office and have a Connect that I use to run Sonos thru my existing receiver and wired Polk Audio speakers.

Yes but you can't control the volume except through the beam speakers only pick up music if broadcast in stereo or 5.1

Yes, I currently have two of them in my wireless round system. Depending on how far they are from your seating postion makes a diffrance on how well there afectiveness is as the rear channel in the 3.1 surround. Warren.

Trueplay......how do you set it up? I have a pair of Sonos SL

First thing you need is a iOS device with microphone. The app will guide you trough it. Trueplay is not supported by Androind devices. Click on the settings on the speakers and the app will do the rest. It is worth it! Completely changes the way the speakers behave. Also quick tip: re-tune your Sonos after a month or so, after the break-in period. Happy listening

Download the Sonos app. Then go into Settings, Systems, then choose the Room you have the system set up in. Now scroll down under Sound you'll find TruePlay. You will then need to keep the room as quiet as possible as you walk around the room with your mobile phone. After a few minutes your Sonos system will be tuned correctly.

My system is running off of the Sonos App. You need to download this app and add your speakers. After you have done this you can go to settings and then sound true play should show up their. Then you follow the steps and it will let you know if you are successful

Enter an answer to this question. How to tune your speakers using Trueplay What is Trueplay? The layout of a room, and where a speaker is placed, can have a significant impact on the sound that you hear. Trueplay uses the microphone in your iOS device to measure how sound reflects off walls, furnishings and other surfaces in a room, and fine tunes your Sonos speaker to make sure it sounds great no matter where you've placed it. Sonos speakers already sound fantastic, but Trueplay brings you even closer to how music should sound. Completing Trueplay tuning for a room takes approximately 3 minutes from start to finish. How do I access Trueplay? At this time, Trueplay tuning may only be performed using an iOS device running the most current software version of the Sonos app. If you do not see the option to perform Trueplay after following the steps below, update to the latest version of the software by tapping System > System Updates from the Settings tab. For more information on what devices and Sonos products support Trueplay, please refer to our article: Devices and players that are compatible with Trueplay. Using your iOS device: From the Settings tab, tap System and then select the product you wish to tune. If tuning has not yet been performed for a room, a red dot will appear next to the room name. Tap "Trueplay Tuning" and follow the in-app instructions to complete tuning. During the Trueplay tuning process, you will be prompted to grant Sonos permission to use the microphone on your iOS device. Trueplay tuning is the only time Sonos will use audio collected by your device's microphone. Tips for ensuring a good tuning Minimize noise: Do your best to minimize noise during the tuning process. If possible, temporarily shut off any appliances (such as fans, air conditioners, washer/dryers) that are producing background noise. Refrain from talking during the tuning phase and be conscious of making loud noises while walking around the room. If your device has a protective case that covers the microphone, you may be instructed by the app to remove it before tuning. Cover as much area as possible: During the tuning process, do your best to cover as much of the room as possible. If you are tuning a speaker in a small room, use any remaining time after covering the room to focus on the areas where you listen to music the most. Moving your device: During the in-app Trueplay instructions, be sure to watch the 45 second instructional video which demonstrates the technique for moving your device during the tuning phase. The video does not contain audio. Make smooth movements from head to waist with your device. Avoid moving your device too fast as this can cause a wind-like effect to be picked up by the microphone. Do not adjust the volume: To ensure a quality calibration, the sound emitted by your speaker during tuning is fairly loud. Do not adjust the volume using the buttons on your speaker while the tuning sound is playing, as this will negatively impact your calibration. If you need to abort the tuning process, you can press the Play/Pause button on your speaker or tap the X that appears onscreen in the app during tuning. Further Adjustments Adjusting EQ after tuning After you tune your speaker, it is possible to adjust the EQ settings (treble/bass) if desired. These settings will be applied on top of the Trueplay setting, so you can enjoy your personal acoustic preferences along with all the advantages of using Trueplay as a starting point. The EQ can be adjusted for any room by going to the Settings tab and tapping System, the product you wish to adjust, and then EQ. Toggling Trueplay off and on You can turn Trueplay off from any device running the Sonos app by selecting the product under System, tapping Trueplay, and toggling Trueplay Tuning. When to retune your speaker Trueplay tuning is specific to how and where the speaker is placed within the room. We recommend retuning your speaker in the following scenarios: If you move the speaker to another location, even if it is in the same room. If you are calibrating a PLAY:3 or a PLAY:5 (gen2) and you change the orientation of the speaker (i.e., horizontal/vertical). Players will save one tuning profile for each possible orientation. If you change the configuration that a player is in it will need to be retuned. For example, if you tune a single PLAY:1, but then purchase a second PLAY:1 at a later time and decide to stereo pair the two speakers together, it will need to be retuned once the Stereo Pair has been configured. How does Trueplay work? Sound from a speaker reflects off walls, furnishings and other surfaces in a room before it reaches your ear. These reflections can cause certain frequencies to sound either louder or quieter than they do in the studio mix. As the Trueplay calibration tone is played, the microphone in your device takes an "acoustic profile" of your room by recording how loud various frequencies sound as you m

I am thinking of buying the sonos 1 SL - 4 of them - do I need to purchase a sonos amp as well to support them?
fergus  Sep 15, 2020

A
I have 4 throughout my home and do not need the amp. I listen to a wide variety of music genres, and they pickup bass well.
allison  Sep 26, 2020
A
No, you do not need an amp to support these. These are what is known as 'Powered' speakers meaning they have their own power supply. You can connect these either via Ethernet or Wirelessly to your local network, and then control them from a desktop, a phone, or a tablet with the SONOS app. You will be pleased with the sound quality of the speakers as well. One quirk however, if you are thinking of setting them up via Ethernet (wired is always better) is that you MUST still set them up initially via a wireless network. It's an oddity which makes not sense to me, but that is what I found.....

What is the power source for these wireless speakers?

A
Not sure what you're referring to but I'll answer to best of my knowledge. These speakers are self powered and they do not need a separate amp to drive them. They are literally plug and play. They have their own amp inside and you just plug them to any regular AC wall plug. Once you download the Sonos app and you connect the speaker to your network you're all set. You can also use Airplay to stream music from any Apple device. These are not Bluetooth speakers so have that in mind.

Each speaker has an electric cord attached to it that must be plugged in for power. I purchased the speaker stands, which incorporate the electric wires inside of the stands. The "wireless" part refers to not having to wire them into a receiver, TV or other system. They operate via WiFi network - not to be confused with Bluetooth speakers, which must be "paired". Hope this helps -
