How about a great-sounding and ultra-portable Bluetooth speaker — that can also be part a Sonos multi-room audio system? Say hello to the Sonos Roam. This cool little speaker is waterproof and rugged, so it's perfect for outdoor use. And when connected to your home's Wi-Fi network, it gives you all the great features of other Sonos speakers. You can even control the Roam with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant voice commands.

Do more with Bluetooth

Switch the Roam to Bluetooth mode, and you can use this portable speaker out on the deck or on the beach, beyond the reach of your Wi-Fi network. Just pair your phone with the Roam, then fire up a music app like Spotify®, TuneIn or TIDAL.

The Sonos Roam is dustproof and fully waterproof, so it can withstand raindrops, snowfall, splashes and more. Its built-in rechargeable battery can deliver up to 10 hours of playback. Fine-tune the sound with Auto Trueplay

You can optimize the sound of the Roam wherever you place it. Turn its microphones on and Auto Trueplay will automatically adjust the EQ. As long as the Roam is stationary, it will continue to monitor and adjust itself for optimal sound.

Compatible with AirPlay 2

Auto Trueplay is triggered whenever the Roam speaker is placed in a new location, and continuously refines the sound while the Roam is stationary. Make sure the Roam's microphone array is turned on (Auto Trueplay will not work when the microphone array is turned off). Trueplay tuning available via WiFi or Bluetooth

Stereo Pairing is only available when the Sonos Roam is in Network (WiFi) mode; not available in Bluetooth mode. The Sonos Roam cannot be used as wireless rear surrounds. The Sonos Roam will not pair with the Sonos Sub and cannot be used as wireless surrounds.

Mounting Options: The Sonos Roam can be positioned vertically or horizontally on a flat table-top surface. When positioned vertically, the Roam has a minimal footprint and the rounded triangular shape can tuck neatly into a corner anywhere space is at a premium. You can also lay the Roam speaker horizontally for stability on uneven ground it will subtly direct the sound upward in the direction of your ears for a better listening experience.

System Requirements

Internet Service Provider: You'll need a high-speed, wired internet service provider connection such as cable, fiber, or DSL. Wireless internet connections such as satellite, mobile hotspots, or 4G LTE routers can experience delays between the internet connection and Sonos and are not supported. Using these types of connections can cause music to not play, skip, or cut out completely.

Wireless Setup: All Sonos products support 2.4GHz WiFi (802.11 b/g) and Open, WEP, and WPA/WPA2 Personal WiFi security standards. Some newer Sonos products support dual-band 2.4/5GHz WiFi (802.11 b/g/n/ac) and WPA3.

  • The network must not contain enterprise access points that have been configured to require certificates or other forms of enterprise authentication. If you are using multiple access points, make sure they are all set to the same 2.4GHz or 5GHz wireless channel.
  • Networks using wireless range extenders are known to cause issues with Sonos systems that are configured in a wireless setup. If you need to extend your home WiFi to use Sonos in a wireless setup, we recommend using a WiFi mesh router to do so.
  • Sonos cannot connect to guest networks or networks that use a Port page to login.

Wired Setup Requirements: A Sonos system operating in a wired setup will require one of your Sonos products to remain connected to the router via Ethernet cable at all times. If your Sonos system is in a wired setup and you use a WiFi mesh router with multiple wireless nodes, we recommend wiring your Sonos product directly to the primary wired mesh node. Avoid wiring any Sonos products to the wireless mesh nodes. If you are on a corporate or advanced network, it must not block Spanning Tree Protocol (STP).

Note: Ethernet over Power devices (also known as HomePlugs or Powerline adaptors) are not supported by Sonos. While they may work for some systems, they tend to cause intermittent problems with Sonos. EoP adapters create an added delay between your network and Sonos. If the internet connection is too slow or the delay is too great, it can cause your music to skip or cut out completely or your players to drop off from the network.

Sonos S1 or S2 Controller App: Sonos offers a Sonos Controller app for Apple iOS 12.0+, Android OS 7.0+, Mac OSX 10.11+, and Windows 7+. The Sonos S2 is a new app and operating system (OS) that powers the next generation of products and experiences. In addition to new features, usability updates, and more personalization moving forward, Sonos S2 enables higher resolution audio technologies for music and home theater. Most Sonos products are compatible with S2. Some older Sonos "legacy" products will not support the advances of S2 due to their memory and processing power. The older Sonos "legacy" app is referred to as the Sonos S1 app.

  • Sonos Products That Support the Sonos S1 and S2 Controller App: Play:1, Play:3, Play:5 (Gen 2), Playbase, Playbar, Connect (Gen 2), Connect:Amp (Gen 2), One (Gen 1/2), Beam, Amp, Port, Boost, Move, Sub (Gen 1/2).
  • Sonos Products That Only Support The New S2 Contoller App: Five, ARC, One SL, Roam, Sub (Gen 3), and any Sonos products released after May 2020.
  • Sonos Products That Only Support The Old S1 Controller App: CR200 Controller, Zone Player, Bridge, Connect (Gen 1), Connect: Amp (Gen 1), Play: 5 (Gen 1).

  • If you have have both, older "legacy" Sonos products and newer Sonos products, you have the option to create two separate eco-systems - one that will be controlled with the older Sonos S1 controller app and the other that will be controlled by the newer Sonos S2 controller app.
  • Click here for more information regarding Sonos "Legacy" S1 versus the new Sonos S2 Operating System and App.

Can I use Siri with Sonos Roam?
[ Rob  Feb 02, 2022 ]
1 answer
You are able to ask Siri-enabled devices, using Apple AirPlay 2 that is built into the device, to control playback of Apple Music on the Sonos Roam. This does not add Siri to the device using its built-in microphone or let you control it directly within the Apple Home app, however.

Unfortunately Sonos does not release the information about wattage output of their powered speakers. What we do know is that the Sonos Roam has 2 Class-H Digital Amplifiers that have been perfectly tuned to the speaker's unique acoustic architecture. You can use the Sonos S2 app to adjust bass, treble, and loudness.

I have frequent internet interruptions and limited access to router. Will the roam reconnect wirelessly? I currently have the first Sonos 1 which needs to be hardwired to use after internet loss.

Good day, Molly I also have 1's and have multiple interruptions (loss of internet) a month, which causes my Sono system to go down, but the system comes back almost every time including the 1"s. The only time I've had reconnect issues is when I've made the mistake of updating my S1 to the new software S2 and that was a huge redo considering I have units mounted and inside the walls, this includes subs, soundbars this took almost 6 hours including a tech from geek squad, 1'S X4, 3"s x4, 3 moves, 2 subs arc, soundbar and amps, I have four very large systems mixed with high-end audio, half are on the S1 and the rest are on S2. But back to the original question, I have four roams three in my condo (bath and balcony) and 1 in the second condo (same use) both are on Comcast internet so far they reconnect with no more attention than other units, they do require reconnecting to my TVs (Sony x2, LG x3, and Samsung x2 all Oled)????, sometimes they reconnect to the TV's sometimes not, even though I do not use the roams for satellites, I do have them to use when I move to balconies or showering and listening to sports, news, and music. They are very nice for these types of applications, but as sat's or main speakers you will be much happier with moves, The roams are for travel, listening outside or as accent speakers, very little low end maybe with a sub?? They do sound nice and have very few loss of signal interruptions. I would purchase them again for use as previously stated. Last note: If I keep them connected to power they reconnect much easier with both TVs and the system. Hope this helps Maurice

All Sonos speakers will reconnect wirelessly. I have Sonos1( Original) and they do connect to the dedicated WiFi network using the BOOST from Sonos . At times I need to regroup the speakers after a power loss, but all are on the Sonos network. I replaced the old Sonos "connect" with the "Boost" when it came out. It establishes an independent network and extends the area of use . Not really familiar with slaving the speakers to an existing house Wifi network, other than they do require hard wire hook ups after a power failure and if the wifi is busy, music drop outs occur with that arrangement. Using the boost eliminates drop outs and speakers are truly wireless. Hope this helps...

I'm not sure. We have stable internet so that issue has not cropped up. I know it connects seamlessly when o take it to some one else's house, so I would think it would reconnect easily when signal comes back.

Do I have to have Alexa? Does it need to be activated or is it automatic with Amazon Alexa?

You can use goggle or Alexa. Go to the Sonos app, and activate voice control.

As I recall, when I set up this Sonos Roam, there was an option to activate ALEXA. I chose to activate it since I have a whole houseful of ALEXAS. You just have to tell ALEXA what Wi-Fi to hook up to.

I do not have Alexa and it works fine.
[ Richard  Nov 01, 2021 ]
No you do not need to use Alexa or have anything Amazon. It will not respond to voice without linking it though. I chose not to link and just use the Sonos app.

Can you listen to SiriusXM channels on Sonos roam using Alexa?

Yes. As long as the account is set up beforehand, it should work. However, you will probably have better results by running it natively in the Sonos app. Think of the Roam as having the same feature set as the Sonos One, portable, and with Bluetooth ability (when away a WiFi network).
[ JOSE  Jun 12, 2021 ]
Absolutely! Well as long as you have Sirius xm app subscription.
[ Dan  Jun 12, 2021 ]
Yes, the Roam is full featured like the Move. Great sound too.

Good day, No, IDK if you have them connected with Alexa or other voice recognition devices/systems, if it will work in conjunction?? Hope it helped Maurice

The Sonos Roam only supports Bluetooth audio streaming (A2DP). It does not support Bluetooth hands-free control (HFP) for making or answering phone calls.
