Replaced a good-sounding 11-yr old AVR
Stanley from CARLSBAD, CA on 5/23/2023
I had an 11-year old Yamaha RX-V673 driving Polk Signature Elite speakers and an ancient Mirage Omni S10 subwoofer in a 5.1 configuration. I was very pleased with the sound quality, but the V673's streaming feature began to fail. After consulting with Crutchfield's tech Hogan, I decided to buy the Marantz SR5015 knowing I had 60 days to assure myself it was worth the price. I was attracted to its looks and Marantz' reputation for being more musical in sound quality, since I will be using this system for music as much as for watching movies. In short, I have had the SR5015 for 3 months and I am happy I bought it. The sound indeed is beautiful and seems to have more depth and warmth than the V673. Like driving a car with the torque of a V8 compared to a V6 . effortless power. Surround sound effects are noticeably more enveloping. The SR5015 also runs quite a bit cooler than the V673 at the same volume levels. But the online manual isn't as helpful as expected, and it took quite a bit of fiddling and trial & error with the myriad features of the SR5015 to get it to sound better than the V673. I do miss the Yamaha's more elegant and intuitive phone app. But the HEOS app in the Marantz is excellent. I am also glad to be ready for Dolby Atmos when I add ceiling speakers in the future.
Pros: Beautiful, effortless sound Excellent surround effects Great style HEOS app is very easy to use
Cons: User manual could be more helpful Takes a lot of experimentation to optimize the sound

Bloody well right, it's Highly Recomended
Brian from Cincinnati, OH on 4/7/2023
I'll try and keep this brief. Coming off the earlier Marantz SR5006, that I've enjoyed for years, let me just say I'm thoroughly impressed with the SR5015. Being in the computer performance industry for more years than I can say; I am highly susceptible to a poorly designed UI and inferior documentation. So I would highly recommend downloading the PDF Owners manual from Crutchfield {Good job from them linking to that} Lots of interlaced hyperlinks to lead you where you need to go from anywhere. Extremely well organized. The units UI is top notch. Easy to follow and great graphics. The remote is very well laid out and quick to navigate. Of course I become addicted to the 'INFO' button. At the least; it was instrumental for trouble shooting and I'm totally into seeing all the working conditions and parameters of the input and out signals. Sound: It's everything I've come to expect from Marantz. Just as great as the SR5006. 100 watts, 2 channels driven, is more than enough for my medium sized cabin media room. At the risk of plugging; My analog Hans Zimmer sounds great as Does the HD audio Blue Ray disk of Supertramp - Crime of the Century. I just do 5.1 surround, but the documentation has a section on Bi-amping the Front R/L speakers with the surround Back R/L which I'm not presently utilizing, but I'll so experiment with that. Did I mention the documentation is very detailed? Oh ya, I guess I did, moving on.
Pros: Sound, Documentation, Remote.
Cons: Not a con really, but I always supply my own phono preamp. Just need non phono preamp input.

I've had this receiver 5 days and haven't used the mic to fine-tune the sound/distribution. So far, i'm please but not ecstatic. It's replacing an older Yamaha model as the core of my a/v system. Out of the box I had it working in less then 30 min. I use banana cables for speaker wires, swapping over only took seconds. Sound quality is excellent so far. Zone2 setup was Setting up the WiFi can be painful. First time, it was simple. Somehow it lost its connection and i had to reconnect - an adventure. Sometimes it couldn't find my router, others it didn't accept the (correct) password. That was a one-hour task. Not good. Using the tv/monitor for config menus is good, but not all features are easily accessed, and some aren't implemented as screen overlays - the whole display goes to menu. That could be better. I don't use Alexa etc, making the remote important. The remote isn't universal/multi-device, and lacks backlit keys. HEOS made it easy to access iHeartRadio, but again the menu structure to access HEOS could be better. Advice: if it has the features you want, try for a hands-on demo just to understand how you'll use it day-to-day, before buying.
Pros: - sound quality - power - Zone2 support - Value for the money - BT and WiFi support - HEOS - ATMOS - lots of inputs - 8K - iOS App
Cons: - Menu implementation - quirky wifi connect - too small front panel display and text size - remote lacks universal control & backlighting - video settings seem to have no effect

So far I'm happy with this unit. It replaced a 13 year old Yamaha HD AVR which the only issue I had was some odd ARC issues with newer audio encoding formats and the fact that I couldn't directly manage 4K sources. My only "complaint" with this Marantz is that the UI is terrible. It reminds me of some terrible interfaces used by computer Mfgs,. like Packard Bell, back in the early Windows 95 erra. The graphics try to look "rich" and expensive, but they are so low res it just looks terrible. But, the purpose of this unit is to provide audio output not look pretty, so this isn't really too terrible of a "complaint".

This is the best receiver I've ever had for sound quality, easy menu and total operation from the remote. My suggestion is to hire a Home Audio service to set it up if you want optimal performance. They will do the Auto speaker level settings, go thru the 50 + settings for each mode of listening for (TV - STREAMING MOVIES - MUSIC FROM YOUR PHONE OR A MUSIC SERVICE. You will be glad you did.

Not very impressed for the price. Seems to color the sound, doesn't sound much better than a Harmon Kardon receiver that's over 15 years old with 50 watts per channel. Does have a lot of features and sounds decent, but def disappointed and was expecting better. The remote response is also garbage. Sometimes it also doesn't respond when you click back when you're in the speaker configuration, making you have to close the entire setup and then go back into it.
Pros: Decent sound, lots of features.
Cons: Unresponsive remote, unimpressive sound for the money.

Overall i am very happy. The Heos app makes this AVR awesome. The only issue I had is my old set up used video component input/output which this has, but you could not do the set up without connecting through HDMI video . The home theater sound is great but listening to music is not as good as I had hoped. It is good, just not awesome. Also, I had to re-adust the speakers after the automatic speaker configuration, as it was not to my taste. But overall I am very happy.
Pros: Heos App - Great home theater sound. Easy to use remote.
Cons: Good , not great music sound

I find the unit very complicated and confusing to figure out.One item about how to change the speaker settings for 4 ohm speakers is beyond confusing. I am also very disappointed that when I purchase a piece of equipment that costs this much, the box does not even include a printed owner's manual.I contacted the company and was told that I would have to pay some other company to mail me a printed copy.If Marantz is so cheap that they can not provide a printed owner's manual it calls into question the quality of their product.

So far I am very pleased with the SR5015 from Marantz and I am getting use to all of the features. I did have a few issues setting up ARC with my Samsung TV and ended up calling both Crutchfield and Marantz support. Both phone calls were answered in a timely manor and I was able to get the answers to my questions. The call to Marantz was to clear up a technical question about a volume issue when using using ARC and to register my product. I will definitely use Crutchfield for my future electronic needs.
Pros: Sounds Great Easy to install and support was great in helping with my setup issues with ARC
Cons: The Marantz user manuals could use some improvements but other than that none at all.

I'm no audio expert, but I replaced my SR 5006 with the 5015. The sound is great, and this version has a few extra features - wifi enabled for one, 8k port and HEOS, which has. Become the easiest way to listen to my favorite radio stations. Mostly, though, I listen to classical music. And the sound is warm and clear.
Pros: Reasonable price, great sound, all the features needed for small apartment (2 zones).
Cons: None that I could see - except the setup takes quite a while to get right.

Was very excited to get my new Marantz 5015. I guess I downgraded too far? I went from a B&K 507 7.1 avr to this Marantz 5015. Granted, the B and K AVR is 20 years old, but the Marantz It did not have the clarity or separation that the B and K has, nor the very accurate reproduction of musical instruments without coloration. Is that the Marantz sound? I have a room that is approximately 20 by 30 with Vienna acoustic Mozart Grand Boston acoustics wall and ceiling speakers and they BMW subwoofer, and it just did not fill it with sound, and the level of quality the B and K possessed, or what I expected. Returned, not to the high standards I was expecting from Marantz. I will now look at a NAD. I do own a Marantz CD player so I'm not a hater by any means. I thank you for your return policy as I am in a wheelchair and unable to get into the store.
Pros: Decent entry level AVR. Not audio file quality although.
Cons: The front screen is useless it is so small unless you're right in front of it. Poor design no wonder they discounted so much?!

Just purchased this as a replacement for my Sony STR-5300ES. Setup was super easy, and the sound quality is great. I'm using this with a 7.1 surround setup and everything is exactly as I would have expected. Streaming sources are noticeably improved over the STR-5300ES, which was a great unit that has served me well for many years. I haven't used a lot of the multi-room/HEOS features so I can't speak to those.

Overall, I think this is a pretty good piece of equipment with a number of good features. I picked it up to anchor a system in which I value music over home theater. Am currently running it to SVS prime pinnacles, center and SB 1000 pro sub...no rear/ surrounds due mainly to room ( partially slanted ceilings). I use an oppo player for CDs. In 3.1 found this unit to be pretty enveloping and full with a warm sound (which I kind of like). In 2.1 stereo (without the center channel), I found it had a bit to be desired (mainly a pretty tight soundstage) but it is primarily a surround receiver, so not unexpected. I did add a separate 2 channel amp that did wonders with music. If you listen to 3.1 music, with a center channel, you may be find the sound stage more complete. The unit comes with a good number of useful features. I've found the Pure Direct mode works well to clean up the sound when listening to music. There are many different surround choices; I just have no use for them a this time. The HEOS app is pretty nice for streaming music when it works. I've used it with Spotify for music and the sound quality is pretty impressive. It doesn't seem to be able to recognize MP3s from my phone, so that's a disappointment. Overall, I am pretty pleased with the 5015. I can add surrounds in the future if I choose and feel confident the sound will be to my liking. I'm finding as I get used to the features, the learning curve gets easier, there seems some logic to the user interaction.

Wanted to love it but couldnt
Charles from Irving, TX on 4/1/2022
I wanted to love this receiver, it got such high ratings but sadly I just didn't. If all you care about is the surround sound for watching movies then this is your receiver. Movies sounded amazing, but if you're into listening to music it falls way short. If you are listening to music from any source, be it streaming, cd, dvd , Bluetooth from your phone, etc there is no tone control (bass/treble) in stereo mode. You actually have to go into an onscreen menu to turn off the audyssey function to even get access to the tone control (that should be right on the receiver or at least on the remote no matter what mode or device you're listening to!) I've never seen this before. So to be fair, you can adjust tone in surround mode after audyssey is turned off but once you switch to stereo mode it disappears. What the ??? AND once in stereo mode your subwoofer doesn't receive a signal. You can adjust all your speakers including the sub in surround mode but once you switch to stereo mode, not only does tone option disappear so does your subwoofer control, not just the control of the sub ( turning it up or down) it it doesn't even receive a signal! So here you are trying to listen to your music with no sub and tone control. Never seen this before. Also, the display on the receiver is so small you have to 3 ft away just to see it. You can tell this is a quality product, why Marantz would take away all the basic functionality one would expect to have on a home receiver is beyond me.
Pros: Surround sound was amazing
Cons: No bass/treble or subwoofer when listening to music ( just crazy)

Good quality clean sound but not better than an old NAD
Doug from Edgerton, WI on 3/27/2022
After a few days of replacing old NAD pre HDMI A/V receiver, pretty good. It is very clean and crisp sounding but does not have the depth and warmth of the NAD. At higher volumes the oversized power supply shows its strength over the Marantz. Aside from that it appears to be a good quality a/v receiver. Time will tell.
Pros: Clean sound, good initial quality
Cons: Lacks warmth, needs larger power supply for higher volumes

Marantz SR5015 (2020 model)
Crutchfield customer from Middletown, DE on 8/21/2021
Bought this to replace a Yamaha receiver that was frankly out of date feature wise. The features on the SR5015 make it virtually future proof up to and including 8K. Excellant build quality and the sound is excellant. Hook up is easy and set up was a breeze. No owner's manual in the box, but available on line (it's 310 pages, all English). I've connected it to Definitive Tech BP9000 Series Speakers and an Oppo UDP-203 4K Blu-ray player with a 65" Sony OLED TV. So far, this receiver exceeds my expections. The display is really too small to be able to see from distance, however, some of the info is available on screen, so not a huge problem but something based on this upgrade I miss from a larger display in my previous receiver. The SR5015 comes fully loaded with all of it's advertised features from the factory as far as I can tell. One additional firmware update was completed during set up to bring everything up to date. Marantz has done it right. It's one of Marantz's top of the line AV Receivers in my opinion.
Pros: Solid Build Quality, Ease of set up, Great Sound, Future Proof for 8K, feature packed.
Cons: Small display.

Marantz SR5015 Incredible Sound Processing!
Marc from MEDFIELD, MA on 3/8/2021
The Marantz SR5015 is everything it was advertised to be. We upgraded from an old Yamaha AV receiver that was over 20 years old. What a difference in technology! We are avid live concert enthusiasts and the pandemic squashed all that. So we decided to invest in new AV system and the Marantz was a very good choice. The setup could not have been any easier, I was concerned that it would be cumbersome. It was a piece of cake thanks to the on screen prompts. Amazing quality and features. We paired this with Hsu Research CCB8 front speakers, the HC-1 center channel, the outstanding VT3-MK5 sub woofer and 4 Paradigm bookshelf speakers serving duty as the surround rears and Atmos speakers. The sound as been incredible. As always, buying from Crutchfield was a pleasure and made the whole process enjoyable.
Pros: Value for the money. Sleek appearance. Ease of setup. Amazing sound processing.
Cons: None to speak of.
