Overview

Our take on the Marantz SR7012

The Marantz SR7012 combines high-end amplifier technology and advanced sound processing with immersive video and surround sound for a thrilling home theater experience.

First-class home theater features and performance

The Marantz SR7012 combines high-end amplifier technology and advanced sound processing with immersive video and surround sound for a thrilling home theater experience.

This powerful nine-channel receiver offers full support for 4K Ultra HD video, and even upscales HD and standard definition video to 4K resolution. Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, and Auro-3D put you in the middle of the action with realistic, multidimensional surround sound. Stream music from different sources and enjoy high-resolution music in your living room — or in any room of your house.

Make the most of every music source

The SR7012 offers playback of high-resolution audio formats from a networked computer or USB thumb drive. Special processing cleans up lower-resolution audio formats, letting you get the most out of the ample streaming music choices you get through Wi-Fi, Bluetooth®, and Apple® AirPlay®.

Streamline your music with HEOS

Built-in HEOS technology lets you access all your music — from your personal library, internet radio, and popular streaming services like Pandora®, Spotify®, and TIDAL — through the SR7012.

This receiver can be easily integrated into a wireless multi-room audio system. Stream music to HEOS wireless speakers and components in different rooms, and control each room's sound independently with the free HEOS app. The app lets you control playback, browse music sources, and select which rooms you want to use. Play the same music throughout your home, or listen to something different in each room.

Customizable amp configurations let you set up the system you want

The SR7012's 9-channel amplifier gives you extra flexibility to expand your system into other rooms of your house. In your living room, you can set up a 7.1-channel surround sound system, or a 5.1.2-channel Atmos system with a pair of upward-firing or overhead speakers. That leaves you with two amplifier channels you can reassign to power a set of speakers outdoors or in another room.

If you're happy with a 5.1-channel system in your home theater, this receiver can power speakers in two additional zones. Or the extra height channels can be used to bi-amp a pair of compatible front speakers for more powerful sound.

A "Zone 2" HDMI output lets you watch video from two separate sources in your living room and a second room.

    Top-drawer audio & video. Easy set-up.

Dale from Newark, DE on 12/17/2018

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This Marantz 7012 replaced a Yamaha Aventage RX-A3010. The Yamaha was quite nice but the Marantz is a huge improvement. I use Sonus Faber Concerto and Concertino speakers and the Marantz pushes them way more than the Yamaha. The audio upgrade is dramatic. Setup was simple and easy-to-follow. I did the Audyssey sound calibration and it was easy and effective also. I added some Klipsch Atmos speakers at Norm's (Crutchfield Advisor) recommendation. Watching Atmos Dolby videos on YouTube now is like being at the movies (except I can pause and make some popcorn). You'll be happy if you buy this receiver.

Pros: Excellent audio. Plenty of HDMI inputs. Great tech support from Crutchfield. Use this receiver with Tidal HR audio and you will not believe what you've been missing.

    Cons: None

    Audio Brilliance!...Thank you Crutchfield!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

First and foremost Crutchfield gets a solid 5 stars as they were (as always) a delight to deal with, knowledgeable, & willing to honor price matching. The Marantz SR-7012 is nothing short of Audio brilliance. I love that I can bi-amp my PSB Stratus Gold i front speakers that are 4ohm & unlike my 4 yr old Onkyo AVR there is no background noise in the soft passages. It does run hot (on an open-to-all-sides Lovan rack) & for the cost of a higher end AVR it would be swell to have a built in cooling fan to combat the heat, but I'll just purchase a topside component cooling fan. My grip that would really knock it down a half star is the HDMI pass through option for watching a streaming stick, blue ray, etc on the TV without having the AVR on. This option works only if the same input to the receiver that you are wanting to just watch on your TV was switched before the receiver was shut off...ie if you previously were watching a blue ray the day before and then the next day you just wanted to stream a movie off your stick it wont work unless you turn on the receiver and switch it to that input. Only then can you turn off the AVR and it will work...as long as you continue to only stay with that input. You would have to turn on the AVR again to allow the switching of the input to take place. Kind of defeats the purpose of not having to turn on the AVR when you have a toddler sleeping or a girlfriend that is already annoyed of the steps involved around switching devices.

Pros: Stellar for music and connectivity of wi-fi streaming. Looks, reviews, and reputation of the Marantz AVR's

Cons: Runs on the hotter side. HDMI pass through for powered off AVR needs to work if switching inputs

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I wanted to move up to a 9 channel Home Theater Receiver for sometime now so the price reduction on the Marantz SR7012 gave me the push I needed. Setting up the receiver was easy, I haven't used all of the features yet but so far I'm delighted. I don't use WiFi so I put my music onto a USB flash drive after playing a few songs I know I made a Great Choose. The SR7012 is only 20 Watts of power more then my old receiver but that difference made my music sound incredible, I now hear new details in the songs. I don't have a subwoofer but I can feel the rumble from the bass drivers, this receiver brings out the best in my speakers and I enjoy using the different Surround Modes.

Pros: It has enough Features for you to fine what you need.

Cons: No USB for Apple IPOD

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am astonished by the upgrade over my 3 year old Yamaha Aventage A-1050. I always suspected the Yamaha didn't "push" the speakers. I had no idea what I was missing. Spent about 30 minutes calibrating this Marantz 7012 and the sound produced by two Klipsch tower speakers is incredible. The sound is much richer, cleaner, and vibrant. The Yamaha seemed "tinny" by comparison. Also got a noticeable video upgrade. Am truly impressed. I have always wanted a Marantz, and with this price and Crutchfield's unbeatable service it has finally happened. I couldn't be happier with this decision. Go for it!

Pros: The sound. And all the great features

    Cons: None

A Great AVR at an Unbelievable Price!

Mike from Calumet, MI on 11/26/2018

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'm upgrading my home theater to 4K, etc., a piece or two at a time, and when I saw the price reduction on the SR7012, I purchased it. It is replacing an 11 year old Denon model, and so far, I couldn't be happier. The setup process (and the setup menu itself) is a huge improvement over my old unit. The newer version of the Audyssey room calibration is a pleasure to use also. I use Audyssey for TV and Blu-Ray movies, but am able to switch it off and tweak the settings manually for music listening, which I do with the front L & R channels, and subwoofer. Gorgeous sound in all modes, and plenty of power for my 22' x 26' room. I think what is most appealing about this AVR is that the basic setup process is simple, while the feature list, connection capabilities, build quality, power and audio/video performance are on par with much more expensive components. I can't wait to add a new 4K TV and UHD Blu-Ray player to my setup. Highly recommended; get an SR7012 while they last at this price!

Pros: Ease of setup, build quality, enough power to fill a large room with great sound.

Cons: None, except that at this reduced price, these will soon be in short supply.

    Amazing Sound and Video Upscaling

Austin from Cave Springs, AR on 11/25/2018

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is an excellent receiver. Purchased to be able to support Dolby Atmos. Receiver does a great job of both audio and video. The dedicated 2 channel listening stereo configuration is a great feature. You do need an additional amp to power all 11 speakers as this powers 9, but processes 11. You can't beat Marantz for music! Reason for 4 stars is because I'm not happy with the Audyssey Setup. That might just be. A personal thing, but I feel a better calibration method can be adopted by Denon/Marantz. I use Audyssey to get distance measurements for the time spectrum but then set LPF, crossovers, and vol level (using spl meter) myself. I find this works best for my room. Then REW for graphic eq but only the bass hz range (500 and below). Overall, excellent AVR and has all the features you could want and need.

Pros: High fidelity sound Highly configurable Quality components

    Cons: Audyssey (personal preferance)

Love this receiver so far! Replaced my dinner and that was cutting out on surround modes and did not have the capacity to run two additional independence zones. This unit does the trick. Beautifully designed in great power. I love the ranch product

Pros: Zone capability with 5.1 setup and 2 zones. Great setup process.

Cons: The visual circle on the front looks cool but very hard to read and unless you're up close...If you open the panel the digital display is much easier to read but then it doesn't look as nice

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Marantz SR7012 powers my Klispch Speakers very well, clear and clean. The 9.2 sound is amazing, it is better than being in a theater. Now a couple things that I am needing help with. Does this receiver have a phonograph Pre-Amp? When I used my Pre-Amp the sound was distorted - horrible. So I removed my Pre-Amp and the sound is clear but the volume level and power is lacking. I went to your web site to figure this out but there is no mention of if there is a Pre-Amp. My complaint is the lack of a decent and complete users manual.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought this because the price was too good to turn down & I was looking to upgrade my non-Atmos Onkyo TX SR806. After going through the Audyssey setup (in which I was asked to LOWER my Sunfire sub volume) & some initial difficulty getting anything more than PCM (just a setting I had to find on my Sony Blu Ray player), I popped in MI:Rogue Nation & omg it was sonic heaven. Even my wife was extremely impressed & that's not an easy accomplishment. My Sunfire sub had NEVER rumbled so deeply. With my Onkyon I used to wonder if it was even working & would occasionally put my hand on top of it to see if was on. Don't have that problem anymore-the concrete floor vibrates under the carpet, the walls shake but the overall listening volume is pleasing, not so loud you feel the need to cover your ears (though if I wanted I've got plenty of upside to go volume wise). The sound separation is simply extraordinary & I can't wait to fiddle with my music collection as well as watch my entire Blu-ray collection all over again as even when I was only getting PCM from my player, the Audyssey 3d sounded pretty doggone good. If there is a negative, it's that like others say-it does get hot but nothing a small fan couldn't alleviate. Some reviewers on other forums have complained about the app or the remote & while the remote buttons do light, you'd need to know what those buttons do in the dark since the labels aren't lit but then again, the app takes care of that problem. Thanks Crutchfield

Pros: Amazing audio separation Incredibly booming bass A sonic treat. $1,000 off-too good to pass up It's Crutchfield so that means fast shipping, excellent service

Cons: Runs on the hot side.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Upgraded from Yamaha 3050 after HDMI board failed. I cannot believe how much better my system sounds. I set up Audyssey immediately. Surround sound is much better. Everything seems better sounding. Easy menus. Vocals clearer than with Yamaha. Subwoofer also more balanced with speakers. Speakers vanish but sound great. I listened to 6012 (store didn't have 7012) compared to Denon 4400 and could not hear any difference in those 2. I do not have any buyers remorse. A definite upgrade from the Yamaha 3050

Pros: Great sound. Surround sound is truly immersive. HDMI switches easily, no glitches with DISH, 4k bluray or RoKU.

Cons: took couple days for ARC to work with power button on DISH and samsung TV but now working fine.

Got this to replace my Sony DA7100ES, which based on research is no small challenge. I am extremely happy with the performance and with it coming in almost 1,000. less than the current Sony that is the equivalent to my past unit, I had to give it a shot to see if it was worth saving the money. I am very satisfied.

    Exceptional sound and flexible setup

BMB from Chicago, IL on 11/6/2018

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is my second Marantz receiver and I absolutely love it. Smooth, deep, dynamic sound when paired with an Emotiva amplifier and Martin Logan Theos. The Audyssey setup did an amazing job with my space; rear channels have "life" and are more present than they were with other units (even my last/older Marantz), resulting in immersive sound. Video upsampling is amazing - set your cable box at 720 and let the Marantz convert to 1020 - the picture is SO much better. Setup features/menus are also better than they were before, with flexible ways to arrange your channel connections and inputs, etc. Long story short, I'm VERY happy with this unit and would highly recommend it. For the current price, it's a no-brainer.

Pros: Sound quality, input/channel setup, build quality, aesthetics

Cons: Front screen is small and difficult to read, but it's the same story on all Marantz products

Pros: Everything you'll ever need. Does a plethora of functions and applications for a multitude of music options

Cons: Doesn't come with a physical manual. Some of us are old school and like to highlight and tab our owners manual for easy reference. Online manual is provided, but hard to use.

Upgraded to this from a 10 year old pioneer unit. Audyssey is pretty effective. Currently only running 5.1 with upgrades on the way, but my old speakers now sound very natural. In 2.1 mode for music I'm completely thrilled. Set eq to flat vs reference and dyn comp to low and it sounds!

    Pros: Great sound, versatile, audyssey

Cons: Size? It is a bid, heavy unit. No real cons

Worthy upgrade from a "retired" Yamaha RX-V1900

Frank from Santa Maria, CA on 10/31/2018

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have used the Yamaha RX-V1900 for a number of years. It was a good performer. I liked the availability of older input connectors while I was still using some "old" components, like a SVHS recorder and cassette and tape decks. Last year the receiver gave up working. I had a cheap temporary replacement in a Yamaha RX-V665 to run my system. When the time arrived to get a new receiver I went with MARANTZ SR7012, not only because Crutchfield offered a very nice discount, but also for its new features and good reputation. My plan is to use the inbuilt AURO 3D capabilities to listen to a number of discs I already have with this encoding. Still planing and searching for a good height speakers. So far I am using it in the previous 5.1 configuration with mutli ch 7.1 Input from OPPO BDP-105D player. Setting it up with the AUDYSSEY MultEQ editor app on my iPad is easy and works quite well. I am very happy with the great sound and the amazing sound stage on all multichannel discs I own. I would highly recommend this receiver.

Pros: Very good sound. Easy setup. Audyssey make a difference in 5.1 surround sound. Improved sound stage in multichannel.

    Cons: So far none.

Excellent receiver loaded with power and options!

I cannot say enough about this receiver from Marantz, or from the excellent customer service from Crutchfield that keeps me coming back again and again. I upgraded from an Anthem MRX710 and this receiver blows that one out of the water. All the options and connections give me plenty of room for growth over the next few years. I am running a Bowers and Wilkins system and they sing. If you are looking for a receiver that has all the latest and greatest and is a powerhouse, at this price point you can't go wrong.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was eyeing this receiver for the past year. I needed something with 3D and 4K pass through and Atmos capability to marry with my OPPO 203 and LG OLED, but the $2000 plus price point was more than I wanted to bear. So I jury rigged my Integra DTR 70 to provide audio only and went direct to the TV from my sources. Many cables. Then I saw Crutchfield had a price cut by half and made the call. Talked to Tim and got it the next day free shipping. Well, the Marantz is the berries. Added two speakers in the ceiling for the Atmos and the sound is wunderbar! My daughter was watching something and started looking around for a bird she thought had gotten in the house. Bird named Marantz.

Pros: easy setup everything passes through the Receiver. got rid of a myriad of cables speaker Wiring straight forward-no confusion lighter than older equipment

    Cons: none to date

Fantastic sound! Initially purchased and returned a refurbished model from another outfit that had HDMI issues. When it worked, it sounded incredible. As a result, I purchased a new unit from Crutchfield, which wasn't that much more expensive (should have checked prior to purchasing the refurb). I'm using this as a preamp (separate external amps for each channel). Initiall tested without external amps, which sounded incredible. I wanted slightly more headroom (and also already had the amps), so that's why my setup is what it is. I have no doubt that the power provided from this receiver alone would be more than enough for most. YMMV

    Pros: Beautiful sound

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is my third Marantz AVR (previously owned a SR5010, SR5012, all purchased at Crutchfield) so I'm very familiar with the Marantz sound, features and setup routine. My current setup includes two subwoofers so I was particularly looking forward to the Audyseey MultiXT32's ability to individually integrate and analyze each sub. I ran Audyseey thru all 8 mic positions. The first sub-routine included sound analyzation of each sub. The final result was noticably improved integration of two subs with tighter, less boomy sound. The soundscape background is dead quiet and there is power to spare. Setup routine was thorough and intuitive with no hiccups at all. If I were pressed to come up with any negatives about this unit, I'd say that it runs warm so make sure its location is well ventilated.

Pros: Tight un-boomy bass. Lots and lots of power.

    Cons: Runs warm.

I LOVE IT. I have been buying component stereo pieces since I served in Vietnam and purchased items to have shipped directly home. This is without a doubt the finest receiver I have ever owned. I owned an 11 year old Onkyo, that was OK, but the difference in sound quality is just overwhelming. As soon as I hooked up the Marantz it was just blew me away. It excels in sound quality for tv, dvd and fm also. There were not enough stars to rate this unit, it should be a ten !!

    Pros: Everything..

Cons: None I have found, and I doubt I will.

I was switching for a Yamaha receiver with fine DSP and very adaptable for music and video. A few component failed making a repair cost prohibitive and it was almost 10 years old. I remembered the ability to do comparisons of equiptment on the Crutchfield site including more links to more in depth information on the manufacturers sites. This made it very easy to narrow my options down to a couple of choices. Additional reseach did not help me choose between the units. Crutchfield discount of almost 50% on the Marantz made my final decision easy. Overall, the site, comparison tool , and aggressive pricing ensures my return to Crutchfield for my next purchase

I knew before my purchase that this AVR was going to be great....it's even better than I expected. The sound quality and accuracy provided by the Audyssey XT32 is second to none. I am running a 5.1.4 with Martin Logan bookshelf and in-ceiling speakers. And the video processing to 4K leaves my 2yr old Pioneer Elite in the dust. There really is not any type of knock I can give the SR7012. The power is there plus some, the video is tight and not overly fake, so if you want to feed your system the best at a very reasonable price....I wouldn't look any further.

Pros: Sound accuracy, power handling, video scaling, and future proofing (if that's even possible)

Cons: None. Quality piece all around

Before I upgrade my old Klipsch Reference 7.1 surround to Monitor Audio Gold 5.1.4 I decided to order this amp before the speakers just to see how it would affect my current set up. WOW am I blown away. I had my relatively lower-end Klipsch speakers run by a Yamaha mid level receiver and they sounded bright and tinny, thin and not very dynamic. After listening to a friend's Monitor Audio golds run by marantz I was blown away and knew I had to get them. However, I cannot stress enough how much this receiver has changed my current speakers performance. The Yamaha had similar power outputs on paper but clearly this marantz is pushing out cleaner power. The speakers have become much less harsh and voices and effects in movies sound much more realistic. Before my center channel sounded boxy and voices had an excess amount of bass which muddied the details. Now that is gone and center channel produces real-life sound. Music has become much more realistic and these speakers are now imaging which they definitely did not do before. The surround processing is amazing and out of the box without any calibration the sound is pure and dynamic. I cannot believe how much this receiver has transformed my system. I now have a much better baseline to compare when I get the Monitor Golds hooked up in the next few weeks. Great product. Get it at this price don't bother with the 7013. First time buying from crutch field. Great experience, and the Marantz arrived in 2 days.

Pros: Dynamic, powerful, warm, quick and accurate.

    Cons: none so far

The sound is awesome. This unit replaced my Yamaha RXV3900. On paper the Yamaha should sound better but it does not. The controls are not as friendly as my older unit but with a little time we got everything set up the way we wanted. The lack of a printed owners manual would have prevented a call to Crutchfield. The customer service was spot on. The speaker connections are not as solid as my old unit but they do the job. The unit has a much cleaner look and feel. The Android app is helpful with everyday use. I thought that I would miss the extra sound fields but have not yet. If you have your equipment mounted in a remote location you will appreciate how cool the unit actually runs. Temperature was an issue with my older unit.

    Pros: Great Sound.

Cons: Should come with a printed owners manual.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

First of all, I never review products beyond a star rating but think this deserves some comment to help others. After a lightning strike, I had to replace a complete Sony Bravia set up including ES products. I selected a 2018 Sony A8F OLED and wanted the perfect receiver to pair with it. After much research, I decided that either the Sony STR-ZA5000ES or Marantz 7012 were the best options. I tried both and there is a huge difference in function! The only advantage I found to the Sony was the Bravia sync which did not always work well. The advantages of the Marantz are numerous. (1) Two subwoofer LFE outputs. The Sony looked like it had two but only one can be set up. I tried to connect 2 Klipsch subs and only one would connect in settings (2) The power and sound of the Marantz is much stronger and clearer. Speaker set up is more precise and much more detailed than the quick Sony Tone. (3) The Marantz has wi-fi which is used for the Marantz app and for HEOS, Bluetooth and Air play. I connected to my Sirius XM account and set HEOS favorites and now press one button on the remote to launch the HEOS play which the 7012 converts to Dolby Surround via custom settings (4) The Marantz has 2 more HDMI inputs than the Sony and one more HDMI output than the Sony (5) Via the App, the Marantz can synchronize up to 32 additional HEOS devices for whole house play and Use "Hey Alexa" (6) The Marantz has a Phono connection The Marantz will have me learning featu

This Marantz A/V receiver is an upgrade from an excellent Pioneer VSX-52 7.1 receiver. The reason was to get Dolby Atmos and DTS-X sound. The set up was easy enough. After re-positioning a couple speakers and adding a couple Klipsch CDT-5650-C II in ceiling speakers the next step was running the Audyssey speaker calibration. It has the capacity so in the future I can add another pair of the Klipsch ceiling speakers. Everything went smoothly. The sound is magnificent, very rich and very full. Purchasing the Marantz SR7012 completes my home theater upgrade. My 4K- HDR movies look and sound great! I totally recommend this receiver. I have owned this receiver for one month.

Pros: 1.Very stylish 2.Easy to set up 3.Room filling, rich sound 4.Plenty of HDMI connections 5.There is even a phono connection for vinyl enthusiasts 6.I definitely recommend this A/V receiver

Cons: None a this time. I don't think there will be any either.

Upgraded from a 2+-year old Denon receiver. I was very pleased with the performance of the Denon receiver, but it does not offer support for HDR video. Being within the Denon family, this Marantz receiver shared many similarities with my prior unit, including incredibly easy and straightforward set-up. Audio performance is slightly enhanced over my older Denon unit. I'm running a 5.1 configuration. So far it's most noticeable with the processing of Spotify streaming. Only challenge I encountered was the Audyssey room calibration. After placing the mic a little too wide from the center the first time, I tightened up the distance from the center and the calibration was effective. Video is a move up as well with the ability to support HDR on an OLED LG display. Using Apple TV and Xbox One S video source, there was a syncing issue with older, non-HDR Sony 4k LED display. Video source shows on the Sony TV as "Unsupported signal" and only works intermittently. There were no issues with cable as the video source. Overall, if you're looking for a solid home theater solution, I would recommend this receiver.

Pros: Excellent audio and video with simple set-up and upgradeable firmware

Cons: Some video source syncing issues with older Sony 4k LED display

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have been partial to Yamaha products in the past and was looking for a new receiver to upgrade my home theater to Dolby Atmos. I initially went with the Yamaha 3070 but I found it lacking in amp assignment functions and I thought the music playback was not on par with my previous Yamaha Z11 receiver. I decided I had to come up with a better unit and after some research I replaced it with the Marantz 7012. I am running the unit in the 11.1 configuration using several external amps and the unit was a breeze to set up with the Audyssey app using my Ipad. I installed 4 ceiling speakers for Dolby Atmos and a center top speaker for Auro 3D in addition to my side and rear surround speakers. I used a microphone stand to set the system up with the Audyssey App and I was very pleased with the results. There were a few settings I decided to change manually and I was able to go in and make the adjustments very easily using the on screen display. I am very pleased with this receiver and I highly recommend it. The surround sound is great and when it's time to listen to music the unit produces a nice clean sound with several choices for pure stereo playback. The previous reviewer mentioned a problem with the 4k Apple TV. I think the issue is the Apple TV and not the receiver since I had the same problem with the Yamaha 3070 . My TV has 4 HDMI inputs and one has AVR capability so I ran the 4k Apply TV directly to the TV and sent the audio back to the Marantz 7012 us

Pros: Great Sound Easy Setup / Flexible Configurations Very Functional Apps

Cons: Unit Runs Hot So Allow for Proper Ventilation or Exhaust Fans

No 4K HDR Support through Apple TV 4K :(

    Neely from Tennessee on 10/20/2017

Issue: *No 4K HDR support through the new Apple TV 4K* I have had this AVR hooked up for a few days and everything works great except HDR/Dolby Vision support for the Apple TV 4K. I know it is not the Apple TV, because it works fine if plugged directly into the TV. The SR7012 does pass 4K SDR, just not HDR. I have a 4K Roku through which the SR7012 passes 4K HDR splendidly. There needs to be a firmware update to fix this pronto!

Pros: Great sound! Dolby Atmos! Plenty of connectivity.

Cons: Beware: No 4k HDR support with Apple TV 4K.

9-Channel Discrete Amplifier: The Marantz SR7012's powerful amplifier section features discrete high current output devices on all nine channels, and all amp channels are configured identically. Rated at 125 watts with 2 channels driven (8, 0.05%, 20Hz-20kHz), the SR7012 has the ability to drive lower impedance 4 speakers on all channels. The AV receiver's amplifier section employs Marantz's exclusive HDAM technology and Current Feed Topology for exceptional sound quality, dynamic range, and clarity.

    • HDAMs (Hyper Dynamic Amplifier Module): The SR7012 utilizes Marantz HDAM (Hyper Dynamic Amplifier Module) technology that provides superior low noise wideband performance in an all-discrete configuration, compared to conventional op amp ICs. Furthermore, the technology provides an ultra-fast slew rate for true wideband response and maximum dynamic range to deliver optimum sound quality with today's high resolution audio formats.
    • Current Feedback Topology: The SR7012 features high grade audio components that have been carefully selected. The whole internal circuit further enhances audio quality by delicately handling all signals via the Marantz-own HDAMs (Hyper Dynamic Amplifier Module) in Current Feedback topology before passing them on to the power stage to fire up the connected speakers.

Amplifier Assignment: The SR7012's nine discrete amplifier channels can be configured to accommodate your type of home theater setup. You can even connect up to eleven speakers at a time and the receiver will intelligently and automatically select which speakers need power based on audio source and surround sound format.

    • 11ch: Provides 11ch playback by assigning all nine internal amplifiers to the receiver's main zone and using an external 2ch amplifier for either the Front or Height 2 channels. Up to nine speakers can be powered by the receiver's amplifier, while two speakers are powered by an external amplifier. This amplifier configuration is compatible with up to 11.2ch and 7.2.4ch applications.
    • 9ch: Assigns all nine amplifiers within the receiver for the Main Zone to power the Front, Center, Surround, Surround Back, and Height speakers. You can connect up to eleven speakers to the receiver's amplifier and the receiver will automatically allocate the nine amplifier channels to power up to nine speakers at a time. This amplifier configuration will automatically switch between 9.2ch and 7.2.2ch / 5.2.4 applications.
    • 7ch Bi-Amp: Assigns all nine amplifiers of the receiver to the Main Zone with the front speakers bi-amped. Up to nine total speakers can be connected at one time - including Front, Center, Surround, Surround Back and Height speakers. The receiver will automatically switch for playback between 7.2ch and 5.2.2ch applications. The receiver's Height 2 amplifier channels are assigned to bi-amp the front speakers. A bi-amplification connection uses two amplifiers for one speaker. One amplifier is connected to the woofer section of a loudspeaker while the other is connected to the combined midrange and tweeter section. With this arrangement each amplifier operates over a limited frequency range, making its job easier.
    • 7ch + Zone 2 or Zone 3: The nine amplifier channels of the receiver are assigned to power a 7ch speaker system in the Main Zone and stereo speakers in either Zone 2 or Zone 3 (not both). Up to nine total speakers can be connected in the Main Zone - including Front, Center, Surround, Surround Back and Height speakers. The receiver will automatically switch for playback between 7.2ch and 5.2.2ch applications. The receiver's Height 2 amplifier channels are assigned to power Zone 2.
    • 7ch + Zone2/3-Mono: Assigns seven of the amplifier channels of the AV receiver for 7ch playback in the main zone and one amplifier each to Zone 2 and Zone 3 for mono audio in each zone. Up to nine total speakers can be connected in the Main Zone - including Front, Center, Surround, Surround Back and Height speakers. The receiver will automatically switch for playback between 7.2ch and 5.2.2ch applications. The receiver's Height 2 amplifier channels are assigned to power both Zone 2 and Zone 3 for mono sound.
    • 7ch + Front B: Assigns seven amplifier channels of the receiver to the Main Zone for up to 7ch playback and two amplifier channels to power another pair of front speakers in the Main Zone for stereo playback only. Up to eleven total speakers can be connected in the Main Zone - including Front, Center, Surround, Surround Back, Height, and Front B speakers. The receiver can automatically switch for playback between 7.2ch and 5.2.2ch application. The receiver's Height 2 amplifier channels are assigned to power the Front B speakers.

Immersive Surround Sound: The Marantz 7012 AV receiver goes beyond regular surround with the latest immersive surround sound formats, including Dolby Atmos,  DTS:X, & AURO-3D.

    • Dolby Atmos: Dolby Atmos surround sound technology dispenses with channel-based coding in favor of more advanced object-based coding, giving the soundtrack designer the ability to precisely place sounds anywhere in the 3-dimensional space. Now you can enjoy this same award-winning technology at home with the 7012 that lets you connect a 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound speaker system and 2-4 additional overhead speakers or 2-4 Dolby Atmos elevation speakers for the ultimate home theater experience.
      • A 5.1.2 configuration is based on a traditional 5.1 speaker layout complemented by 2 overhead or Dolby Atmos-enabled speakers.
      • A 5.1.4 configuration is based on a  traditional 5.1 speaker layout complemented by 4 overhead or Dolby Atmos-enabled speakers.
      • A 7.1.2 configuration is based on a more advanced 7.1 speaker layout complemented by 2 overhead or Dolby Atmos-enabled speakers.
      • A 7.1.4 configuration is based on a more advanced 7.1 speaker layout complemented by 4 overhead, or Dolby Atmos-enabled speakers (two of the overhead or Dolby Atmos-enabled speakers must be powered by an external 2ch amp).
    • DTS:X: The latest immersive surround sound system, DTS:X features object-based audio coding that lets the soundtrack designer place sonic elements anywhere in the 3D acoustic soundspace, and provides for overhead speakers to deliver a stunning surround sound experience. Along with DTS:X decoding, the 7012 features DTS-HD Master Audio decoding and other DTS audio technologies.
    • AURO-3D: This receiver is equipped with an Auro-3D decoder. With Auro-3D, Front Height, Surround Height and Top Surround are added to a conventional 5.1-channel system to achieve a natural and realistic soundfield that is three-dimensional and fully immersive. You will be able to fully enjoy Auro-3D playback if you properly place the speakers for Auro-3D. Auro-3D does not support a Dolby Atmos configuration using Top Front, Top Middle, Top Rear, or any Dolby Atmos Enabled speakers. But it is possible to support both an Auro-3D and Dolby Atmos by adding Front Height and Rear Height speakers to a 5.1 configuration. For an optimum Auro-3D experience Surround Height speakers are strongly recommended.

Post Decoding Formats: The Marantz AV receiver supports Dolby Surround & DTS Neural:X to enhance 2-channel and multichannel decoding formats. It will also be able to support DTS Virtual:X through a future firmware update (no ETA).

    • Dolby Surround: Dolby Surround offers an enhanced cinema experience to your 2ch or multichannel movie soundtracks using your existing 5.1ch, 7.1ch, or Dolby Atmos speaker setup. Dolby Surround enhances audio definition by improving the spatial dimension and overall audio definition of movie soundtracks. It does this by using four distinct surround zones that provide greater control over the exact placement of each detail in a movie sound track, so audio can be matched more accurately to the video on screen; this means more depth and greater realism for your movies. As a result, individual sounds are clearer and more distinct. It also improves the surround sound experience across the entire theater by widening the listening "sweet spot".
    • DTS Neural:X: Further, DTS:X incorporates Neural:X, the latest spatial remapping technology from DTS, which provides a fully immersive output for all types of source content; this includes DTS bitstreams and non-encoded (PCM) data. Neural:X delivers a thrilling sense of immersive sound to your speaker layout regardless of the original source format.
    • DTS Virtual:X (via Future Firmware Update): DTS Virtual:X bridges the gap between DTS:X and the reality of so many consumers' homes, allowing you to enjoy multi-dimensional sound regardless of room size, layout, or speaker configuration. DTS Virtual:X can be used with any content (from 2ch to 5.1ch soundtracks), while delivering virtual height & virtual surround processing based on psychoacoustics (not reflective surfaces).

Audyssey Platinum: The Marantz SR7012 features the Audyssey Platinum suite of powerful DSP features - including MultEQ XT32, Sub EQ HT, LFC (Low Frequency Containment), Dynamic Volume, and Dynamic EQ.

    • MultEQ XT32: Via the supplied measuring microphone, Audyssey MultEQ32 measures all the speakers in your home theater during setup, including the subwoofer, and then generates multiple high precision DSP room acoustic correction filters, which together provide smoothest and most natural tonal balance, regardless of the brand or model of the various speakers. Audyssey MultEQ32 incorporates Up to eight listening positions can be measured, configured, and recorded. MultEQ XT32 compensates for both time and frequency characteristics of the listening area based on "Audyssey Setup" measurement results. Selection is done from three types of compensation curves - Reference (default and recommended, L/R Bypass, Flat, and Off).
    • Sub EQ HT: Audyssey Sub EQ HT provides individual DSP tailoring of each subwoofer in a dual subwoofer setup, for deeper bass with improved definition, compared to a single subwoofer configuration.
    • LFC (Low Frequency Containment): Audyssey Low Frequency Containment uses advanced psychoacoustic algorithms to deliver a full range tonal balance, including deep bass, but without disturbing close-by neighbors or family members in other rooms, and features a multi-step adjustment that lets you dial in the amount of containment to your preference.
    • Dynamic Volume: Audyssey Dynamic Volume features advanced psycho-acoustic processing to deliver clear dialog and wide range sound at reduced volume levels so that you can enjoy theater-level clarity at whatever listening level you choose.
    • Dynamic EQ: Audyssey Dynamic EQ also features advanced DSP processing to deliver full range wide-band response, even at reduced volume levels. Dynamic EQ Reference Level Offset provides three offsets from the film level reference (5 dB, 10 dB, and 15 dB) that can be selected when the mix level of the content is not within the standard.

Direct Listening Modes: The Marantz 7012 offers two Direct Listening Modes which bypass the receiver's tone & DSP processing for higher sound quality performance. Source Direct provides playback of 2ch or Multichannel audio in its original form, without any surround or tone processing. Pure Direct  goes a step further by turning off the receiver's display and analog video circuitry to minimize the possibility of any noise being added to the audio signal.

Stereo Modes: The Marantz 7012 surround receiver also provides two-channel stereo and multi-channel stereo playback, as well a virtual surround from two stereo speakers. The 2CH Stereo mode is for playing in two channel stereo; bass and treble can be adjusted and sound is output from the front left and right speakers, along with a connected subwoofer. Multi-Channel Stereo mode lets you enjoy stereo sound from all speakers. Virtual Speaker mode lets you enjoy surround effects using only the front speakers or headphones.

ARC + eARC (via available Firmware Update): ARC (Audio Return Channel) allows the receiver's HDMI monitor output allows audio to be sent from your compatible HDTV to the receiver through the same HDMI cable already being used to send audio and video to your HDTV. This eliminates the need for extra cables connected to your television. The receiver will also support eARC (Enhanced Audio Return Channel) via an available firmware update. eARC will support uncomprerssed audio formats like Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, & DTS HD Master Audio - where standard ARC was limited to Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, DTS, DTS HD, and PCM.

Audio Enhancements: The Marantz 7012 receiver provides various audio enhancements to deliver a high-quality listening experience every time.

    • CINEMA EQ (Cinema Equalizer): The Cinema EQ function gently decreases the level of the extreme high frequencies, compensating for overly-bright sounding motion picture soundtracks. Select this function if the sound from the front speakers is too bright. This function only works in the Dolby Digital, DTS, Dolby Pro Logic (including PL II, PL IIx, PL IIz), and DTS Neo:6 modes.
    • M-DAX: Compressed audio formats such as MP3, WMA (Windows Media Audio) and MPEG-4 AAC reduce the amount of data by eliminating signal components that are hard for the human ear to hear. The M-DAX function generates the signals eliminated upon compression, restoring the sound to conditions near those of the original sound before compression. It also corrects the sense of volume of the bass to obtain richer sound with compressed audio signals.
    • Dynamic Range Compression (DRC): Motion picture soundtracks have tremendous dynamic range (the contrast between very soft and very loud sounds). For listening late at night, or whenever the maximum sound level is lower than usual, Compressing the dynamic range allows you to hear all of the sounds in the soundtrack with reduced dynamic range. DRC works when playing program sources recorded in Dolby Digital or DTS.
    • Center Spread: When using the receiver's Dolby Surround mode, the Center Spread function expands the center channel signal to left and right front speakers to create a wider frontal audio image for the listener. It is optimized and designed primarily for playback of stereo music content.

Level Adjustments:  The 7012 provides the following level adjustments.

    • Source Level: This function adjusts the playback level of the currently selected input source's audio input. Use this feature if there are differences in the input volume levels between different sources. You can correct the playback level of the audio input from -12 to +12dB.
    • Dialogue Level & Control: You can adjust the output level (+/-12dB) to increase the dialogue output from the center channel. When listening to a DTS:X soundtrack, the Dialog Control feature adjusts the volume of dialog in movies and vocals in music, so voice can be heard more easily.
    • EQ Level: If you choose not to use the Audyssey MultEQ X32 auto calibration setup function, you can manually set the tonal balance and level for each frequency band of the receiver's 9-band EQ (63/125/250/500/1k/2k/4k/8k/16k Hz) for each connected loudspeaker.
    • Subwoofer Level: You can set the receiver's subwoofer output level (+/-12dB) independent from the other speaker levels and system's main volume.

Volume Settings: The 7012 offers the following volume settings.

    • Volume Scale: You can choose to display an Absolute volume scale (0-98) or Relative volume scale (-79.5 to 18dB).
    • Volume Limit: You can set a maximum volume level of 0dB (80), -10dB (70), or -20dB (60) to limit the receiver's total volume output.
    • Turn-On Volume: You can define the volume setting that is active when the power is turned on (0, 1-98, -79 to +18dB, or Last)
    • Mute Level: You can set the amount of attenuation for the audio muting circuit; -40dB or -20dB below current volume, or full mute (sound turned off entirely).

Audio Outputs: The Marantz AV receiver features color-coded binding-post speaker terminals, 7.2ch pre-outs, and a front-panel headphone jack.

    • Color-Coded Speaker Terminals: The receiver has binding-post terminals for all speaker connections. The binding-post terminals can accept bare wire, pin connectors, and banana plugs (single/dual). The receiver will accept speaker impedances of 4 to 16-ohm. The AV receiver comes with color-coded labels to easily identify which channel a speaker cable should be connected to. Since the speaker cables have labels in the same colors as the connectors on the 7012's rear panel, there's no longer any confusion about which terminals they should be connected to.
    • 11.2Ch Pre-Outs: The AV receiver features 11.2ch pre-amp outputs (Front L/R, Center, Surround L/R, Surround Back L/R, Height 1 L/R, Height 2 L/R, and Dual Subs) for connection to external power amplifiers. The pre-outs are variable. For compatibility with dual subwoofer home theater systems, the SR7012 features two discrete subwoofer outputs. With dual subwoofers, which can be placed in different parts of the room, you'll benefit from response averaging, which helps provide smoother and more detailed deep bass, compared to a conventional single subwoofer speaker system.
    • Headphone Jack: When headphones are plugged into the full-size 1/4" jack on the front panel, all the speakers are automatically muted.

Phono Input: The Marantz SR7012 is fitted with a Phono input (MM), so you can connect your turntable and listen to your vinyl records with high-quality sound.

7.1 Channel Input: The SR7012 features a 7.1 Channel input (Front left, Front right, Center, Surround left, Surround right, Surround Back left, Surround Back right and Subwoofer) for connecting a DVD Audio player, Super Audio CD multi-channel player, or other component that has a multi-channel port so you can playback the audio with 5.1 channel or 7.1 channel surround sound. If you will not be using the 7.1 channel input with a multi-channel decoder, you can use the front left and right inputs as an auxiliary input.

    Video Features

HDMI 2.0b: Featuring eight HDMI inputs (including one conveniently located on the front-panel) and three HDMI outputs, the 7012 incorporates an advanced video section that features the latest HDMI 2.0b specification, including support for 4K/60 Hz Ultra-HD video, BT.2020 Wide Color Gamut, High Dynamic Range (HDR), 4:4:4 Pure Color sub-sampling and 21:9 video pass-through, along with support for 3D content. The 7012 also features HDCP 2.2 compatibility, a requirement for 4K Ultra HD copy-protected content.

    • 4K/60Hz Pass-Through: The 7012 supports up to 4K (3840x2160 pixels) video @ 60 frames per second on all of its HDMI inputs and output (pass-through only). It will also pass a 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, or 1080p video signals via HDMI
    • HDCP 2.2: All of the receiver's HDMI jacks support HDCP 2.2, which fully complies with the latest copyright protection standard for 4K video transmission.
    • 4:4:4 Color Subsampling: All of the receiver's rear-panel HDMI jacks support RGB, YCbCr 4:4:4, YCbCr 4:2:2, and YCbCr 4:2:0 color subsampling (@ 60Hz or 50Hz). With 4:4:4 color subsampling, luminance (brightness) and chroma (color) are sampled at the same rate; resulting in an RGB color palette as big as the video sampling rate for a video image with more colors, plus greater color accuracy and detail. The front-panel HDMI only supports 4K 60/50Hz using format YCbCr 4:2:0 only.
    • Wide Color Gamut (BT.2020): The BT.2020 color standard delivers a much wider color gamut and represents about 75% of the total visual color spectrum, while the current Rec. 709 color standard selected as the color space for HDTVs and early generation 4K Ultra HDTVs covers only 35% of the total visual color spectrum.
    • 21:9 Aspect Ratio: By supporting 21:9 aspect ratio, this receiver can show films recorded in the Cinema Scope format on your TV for a much more immersive video experience. When these types of films are viewed in the usual 16:9 ratio, you see black bars at the top and bottom of the screen; 21:9 eliminates these bars.

HDR Compatibility: HDR provides enhanced picture quality by simultaneously enabling greater detail for both the dark and bright parts of an image. HDR reproduces a greater dynamic range of luminosity or brightness levels, creating greater contrast. This increased contrast reveals the subtle nuances of the image, from detailed blacks and shadows to the brightest whites and colors, plus greater depth. The receiver supports HDR 10, Dolby Vision, and HLG.

    • HDR 10: HDR 10 is an open standard and currently the most popular HDR format on the market. It supports 10-bit color and 1,000 nits. It uses static metadata at the start of a movie to tell the receiver and your TV that the video content is encoded using HDR.
    • HLG: HLG (Hybrid-Log Gamma) is primarily designed for live video feed and over-the-air broadcasts. It uses no pre-encoded metadata and is backwards compatible with SDR. HLG's native compatibility allows much of today's existing SDR infrastructure to be re-used for HDR in the future.
    • Dolby Vision: Unlike HDR 10 which contains static metadata and HLG which uses no metadata, Dolby Vision utilizes dynamic metadata which adjusts brightness, color, and contrast automatically for each scene. Dynamic metadata carries information that maps every image to your TV's display capabilities, so you see more of what the content creator intended. Dolby Vision supports 12-bit color and 10,000 nits.

4K Video Upconversion & Upscaling: The Marantz AV receiver's sophisticated video processor  provides upconversion from standard definition (480i/480p) and high definition (720p/1080i/1080p) sources to 4K Ultra HD (3840x2160 pixels), which lets you connect all your analog (composite/component) or digital (HDMI) video sources to the SR7012 and then connect to your TV with just a single HDMI cable. Only the receiver's main HDMI output supports video upconversion.

Note: When composite or component video signals are used, only 480i video signals are converted to HDMI (up to 4K).

Three HDMI Outputs: The two parallel HDMI outputs distribute the same video signal simultaneously to two separate displays, while the discrete HDMI output allows you to play a different audio/video source in another zone (Zone 2).

HDMI Standby Pass-Through: When the AV receiver is in "Standby" mode and the HDMI Standby Pass-Through function is enabled, both audio/video streams from the receivers HDMI input will be output to your television, via the AV receiver's HDMI monitor output. Once the receiver is turned "On", only video will pass through the monitor output to your TV and the audio is directed to the receiver's speaker outputs.

    • HDMI Input: Selects the HDMI Input for which the HDMI Standby Pass-Through function is enabled.
    • Last: The HDMI Standby-Through function is activated on the input source selected at the time of setting the AV receiver to the "Standby" mode.
    • Off: The HDMI Standby Pass-Through function is disabled.

Other HDMI Features: The Marantz 7012 AV receiver's HDMI connectivity also offers 3D video pass-through, Deep Color & x.v.Color support, as well as an auto LipSync function.

    • 3D Ready: The 7012 AV receiver supports 3D video pass-through (720p/1080p only) from connected 3D-compatible Blu-ray, games and broadcast devices to 3D-compatible HDTVs (all 3D components must be connected via HDMI). Special eyewear will be required for viewing 3D content.
    • Deep Color & x.v.Color Support: The AV receiver supports Deep Color and x.v.Color content, which can display a larger color range than standard-definition schemes. The result is a more lifelike, vibrant picture
    • LipSync: This function adjusts the delay between audio and video output. You can do this manually or have the receiver set the LipSync function automatically. When connected to a TV via HDMI the receiver automatically adjusts audio output timing (0-500ms) if the TV supports an automatic LipSync function. You can also manually delay the sound output up to 500ms to synchronize it with the video image.

Component & Composite Video: The receiver features four composite video inputs (3 rear/1 front) and one composite video output, as well as a Zone 2 composite video output (the composite video inputs/output support 480i only). There are also two component video inputs and one component video output that can be assigned as a monitor output or Zone 2 output (the component video inputs/output support up to 1080p).

Advanced ISFccc Video Calibration: The 7012 is certified by the Imaging Science Foundation to deliver top video quality, and the unit also features advanced ISFccc video calibration controls that allow for precision fine-tuning of the connected HDTV, even if it's not an ISF certified set. You can choose from a variety of Picture Modes - Standard, Movie, Vivid, Streaming, ISF Day, ISF Night, Custom, or Off. The Custom mode lets you manually adjust Contrast, Brightness, Saturation, Noise Reduction, and Enhancer (sharpness).

Video Modes: You can set the video processing method to match the type of video content. Choose from Movie, Game, Auto, or Bypass.

AirPlay 2 (via available firmware update): Through an available firmware update, the Marantz AV receiver will support AirPlay 2. AirPlay 2 is an advanced and easy-to-use wireless multiroom audio platform for iTunes, Apple Music, and other compatible Apple iOS apps. With AirPlay 2 you can play any sound from your Apple iOS device (running iOS 11.4 or later) or Mac computer (running OS X 10.13.2) on the Marantz receiver and other compatible AirPlay 2 speakers throughout your home. You will also be able to ask Siri-enabled devices (like your Apple iPhone, iPad, or Watch) to control playback of your Apple Music on the Marantz receiver. With AirPlay 2, also get to see song/artist information and album art via the receiver's on-screen menu (via HDMI). You can choose to play audio in one room, play the same audio in grouped rooms, or play the same audio in every room (you can control and group directly from Apple's Music App and Home app on your Apple iOS device). You can even watch videos and movies from YouTube and Netflix on your compatible Apple iOS device or Mac computer with perfectly synced audio on the Marantz receiver.

Built-in Bluetooth: The Marantz 7012 features built-in Bluetooth (version 3.0+EDR) with a 98' wireless range for music streaming (A2DP 1.2) and control (AVRCP 1.5). You'll be able to wirelessly stream stored music and music apps from your Bluetooth-enabled smartphone, tablet, computer, laptop, and more to the Marantz AV receiver. You will also be able to control basic playback functions (Play/Pause & Previous/Next Track) using the receiver's remote. Advanced music operation and song/artist/album info will still be done from your Bluetooth source device. Up to eight Bluetooth devices can be paired the 7012, but only one device can be connected and used at a time.

Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Marantz AV receiver.

    Multiroom Playback

HDMI Zone 2: The SR7012 also incorporates multi-zone HDMI audio/video distribution for Zone 2 with the inclusion of its HDMI matrix switching functionality. The receiver can send two different HDMI video feeds to two displays at the same time directly from the receiver. HDMI Zone 2 also supports 2ch PCM audio from the HDMI input source selected. The HDMI Zone 2 function is only compatible with the HDMI 1-7 input connectors. It is not compatible with the HDMI 8 input connector or any other input source. Volume of HDMI Zone 2 is controlled from the TV or additional receiver in Zone 2.

Note: If the receiver's Main Zone and HDMI Zone 2 are set to the same HDMI input source, the Main Zone audio will be mixed down to 2-channel audio.

Zone 2 (Audio/Video): Zone 2 allows stereo audio/video playback of another source connected to the receiver in another room of your home via RCA line-level output or speaker-level output, as well as composite or component video. To enjoy a video source in Zone 2, you must connect the same video connection to your second display monitor as connected to your receiver for that particular source (there is no video-conversion for Zone 2). When using the SR7012 to power speakers in a second room of your home, the main zone is restricted to 7.2-channels. When using the receiver's line output terminals for the second room you need an additional amplifier to power your Zone 2 speakers; the main Zone of the receiver remains 9.2-channel. The volume of Zone 2 can be controlled by the Marantz receiver using either configuration or from your add-on amplifier when using the line-output.

    • Compatible Sources:
      • HDMI audio (2ch PCM only)
      • Optical/Coaxial digital inputs (2ch PCM only)
      • Analog audio/video
      • AM/FM Tuner (cannot select different stations for each zone)
      • USB & Bluetooth
      • Network sources (AirPlay, TuneIn Internet Radio, Spotify Connect, HEOS Music apps, & DLNA); the same network source is played in Zone 1 and Zone 2
    • Incompatible Sources:
      • HDMI video
      • DSD audio files
Note: Unfortunately, you cannot select USB, Bluetooth and Network sources exclusively for each Zone. For example, if you select a network source for Zone 2 when a USB source is selected for the Main Zone, the input source in the Main Zone also switches to the same network source as Zone 2.

Zone 3 (Audio Only): Zone 3 allows you to play a different stereo audio source connected to the receiver in a third room of your house. Zone 3 features either a pre-outs or speaker outputs so you can use this amp or a separate amp to power speakers in another room. When using the SR7012 to power speakers in a second and third room of your home, Zone 2 and 3 are limited to mono playback, while the Main Zone is limited to 7.2 channels. When using the receiver's pre-outs for the 2nd & 3rd Zone, you need additional amplifiers in those rooms to power those speakers; the Main Zone of the receiver remains 9.2-channel. The volume of Zone 3 can be controlled by the Marantz receiver using either configuration or from your add-on amplifier when using the line-output.

    • Compatible Sources:
      • Optical/Coaxial digital inputs (2ch PCM only)
      • Analog Audio Inputs
      • AM/FM Tuner (cannot select different stations for each zone)
      • USB & Bluetooth
      • Network sources (AirPlay, TuneIn Internet Radio, Spotify, Connect, HEOS Music apps, & DLNA); the same network source is played in Zone 1 and Zone 2
    • Incompatible Sources:
      • HDMI Audio/Video
      • Analog Video
      • DSD audio files
Note: Unfortunately, you cannot select USB, Bluetooth and Network sources exclusively for each Zone. For example, if you select a network source for Zone 3 when a USB source is selected for the Main Zone, the input source in the Main Zone also switches to the same network source as Zone 3.

All Zone Stereo Function: The All Zone Stereo function allows you to enjoy the AV receiver's Main Zone audio source in Zone 2 and Zone 3 simultaneously (regardless of input audio signal types - analog, digital, or wireless). During the All Zone Stereo mode, only the "Multi Ch Stereo" and "Stereo" sound modes can be selected. You will have independent volume control in each zone. All Zone Stereo mode is useful when you want to enjoy the same music at the same time in multiple rooms during a get together or party.

HEOS Wireless Multiroom Audio: Built-in HEOS technology enables the SR7012 to become part of the HEOS by Denon wireless multi-room audio eco-system, allowing you to stream and control all of your local and online music effortlessly from anywhere in your home with the HEOS App on your compatible Apple iOS or Android mobile device over a wireless WiFi network connection. The HEOS system is a true multi-room audio system that automatically synchronizes audio playback between multiple HEOS devices so that your music (up to 24-bit/192kHz Hi-Res audio) coming from different rooms is perfectly in sync and always sounds amazing. HEOS wireless multiroom audio does not support AirPlay.
    • Groups: You can join or group up to eight individual speakers or amplifiers into a group of speakers that function as if they were a single speaker. The HEOS App is also flexible enough where you can create up to 16 Groups (2 speakers/amplifiers per Group).
    • Party Mode: You can easily group 16 rooms together into Party Mode by using a "pinch" gesture.
Note: The Marantz AV receiver only supports a single HEOS music stream. If you desire a second HEOS music stream through the receiver's multizone output, you will need to connect the HEOS Link to one of the AV receiver's analog inputs.

HDMI Monitor 2: The receiver's second HDMI monitor output lets you send the same HDMI audio/video input signal that is being played in the main zone to a second zone (video is output at the resolution supported by both TVs).

    165 W @ 6 ohms 2 channels driven...in a 5.1 if what Marantz says is true..70% guarantee than 115W for 5 channels. Estimate. [ jeffrey  Nov 21, 2018 ]
    I believe it supports 4K [ Ray  Nov 10, 2018 ]
This receiver will take a 480i input and upscale it up to a 4K output via HDMI. In your case you are asking for a 1080p output which it can do as well. And unless your Onkyo is an entry level unit I am surprised it does not perform as needed. [ JOHN  Nov 08, 2018 ]
The receiver itself does the upscale. There are 2 monitor out HDMI Sockets available to use. Hope this helps. Regards [ TIMOTHY E  Nov 13, 2018 ]
Sorry, I have no idea though I would assume the out to tv converts all that are convertible. Just hooked up system and TV is only 1080. Have lots to learn. Good luck. [ Jeff  Nov 10, 2018 ]
Under the "Connections:" heading it states: "HDCP 2.2 technology ensures compatibility with 4K Ultra HD sources and TVs (all HDMI inputs and outputs)". So, I would say yes. [ Estel  Nov 10, 2018 ]
    Yes they do [ John  Nov 09, 2018 ]
A very powerful amplifier, it can drive even speakers at 4 ohms like mine, in addition to regular 8 ohm speakers. This receiver even works with separate amps specifically designed for special or costumed speakers. in other words, a source going into the --->receiver--->preamp out ---> separate external amp ---> your speakers. Good luck and enjoy this remarkable receiver for home use. [ DONALD  Oct 29, 2018 ]
I apologize, I returned and purchased an Arcam. Unable to help. [ THOMAS R  Oct 29, 2018 ]
    I don't know. [ Gerald  Oct 28, 2018 ]
I don't know. My receiver is connected to my 25 year old speakers. I don't even know what HEOS is. Sorry. [ Teena  Oct 27, 2018 ]
    It is Dolby Vision compatible. [ ANTHONY J  Sep 30, 2018 ]
Dolby Vision itself is not processed by an AV Receiver but the receiver must be Dolby Vision compatible to allow the Dolby Signal to pass through so it can be processed provided the TV has Dolby Vision capability. The Marantz 7012 is compatible with Dolby Vision. [ Gregory  Sep 30, 2018 ]
I've looked through all the information we have on this and even spoke with a couple of my friends in our technical support department on this subject. This receiver should pass that information without any issue. They also said we've not seen an influx of calls regarding this issue and the times its come up, settings were wrong or the cable was the culprit. I Don't have HDR. My Samsung TV was bought a year before they were on the market. Sorry I could not be of more help to you. [ David  Sep 17, 2018 ]
The Marantz works fine with my Sony, I do however run the HDMI through the ARC connection. The apple app works as well but does not support the HDR/Dolby. I hope this helps. [ M  Sep 17, 2018 ]
    I don't know. [ Gerald  Sep 17, 2018 ]
The SR7012 will pass through HDR/Dolby Vision...check your TV settings to allow HDR/Dolby Vision to be enabled and check to see that the receiver is connected to the proper HDMI input that receives the HDR/Dolby Vision signal. I have the Sony 77" OLED...took me a while to figure out I had to enable it on the TV under the correct HDMI input. [ Henry J  Sep 17, 2018 ]
    The 7012 will play hdr,but not Dolby vision. [ VICTOR  Sep 17, 2018 ]
The Marantz 7012 is rated for 125 W @ 8 ohms and 165 W @ 6 ohms so it depends on the speaker you connect it to. [ Gregory  Mar 13, 2018 ]
I believe I read that the variance in watts has to to with whether 8 ohm or 4 ohm speakers are used. Either way this receiver has more then enough kick to power your home theater. With the addition of an external power amp you can add two more channels for 11.1 sound. Just follow the manual speaker set up and then run the Audessey Progeam. It actually very simple. [ TERRY A  Mar 13, 2018 ]
The Marantz offers excellent amplification & sound quality but your speakers will have a role to play in the final performance as well. The 4K up-conversion is also high quality and provides amazing picture quality. I hope that helps. My Bio: https://www.crutchfield.com/bio/Ryan [ Ryan  Nov 15, 2017 ]  Staff
I'm afraid we don't have enough information available at this time to answer this question with certainty. Since Apple just recently announced the AirPlay 2 feature, it may be a while before we can confirm compatibility with third-party manufacturer's--including Marantz. As soon as we have enough information to confirm one way or the other, we will be sure to update that on our website accordingly; so please check back in the near future.
