About the HushMat 11267 Kit

Problem: noise

You've finally got your vehicle's sound system dialed in so you're getting the sound you want…when the car is stationary. When you're moving, though, road noise drowns out the sound you've so carefully put together. Even with the windows rolled up, the level of road noise can force you to turn up the stereo to ear-blasting levels to compete. What can you do to combat this problem?

You've finally got your vehicle's sound system dialed in so you're getting the sound you want…when the car is stationary. When you're moving, though, road noise drowns out the sound you've so carefully put together. Even with the windows rolled up, the level of road noise can force you to turn up the stereo to ear-blasting levels to compete. What can you do to combat this problem?

Solution: Hushmat

Hushmat has the answer: self-adhesive sound-deadening material that lets your speakers perform under ideal conditions. The Hushmat 11267 speaker install kit for medium-size cars includes two pre-cut 11-3/4" x 11-3/4" Ultra Silver sheets and two pre-cut 7-3/4" x 7-3/4" Wave Breaker pads. The Ultra Silver sheets cut down on road noise and eliminate -distortion-causing vibrations where your speaker meets the metal of your door. Use Wave Breaker pads behind the magnet of your speakers or subs to break up back waves that cloud your sound. Warranty: 60 days.

This stuff is very sticky and seems to work well. It is pricy for the amount you receive.

Pros: Sticks to surface very well.

Cons: Pricy

I suspect this material can be great but I don't believe use of this product in small sizes makes enough difference to the sound to justify the expense. I also think the particular vehicle this is used for has an impact on the effectiveness. I have this in the doors of my '63 Ford van. It covers about 25% of one side of the door. I spent $20 on each door. If I could get into the door better I would need to spend another $60 on each door to coat one side and another $80 to coat the other side of each door. A total cost of $160 for both doors.

Pros: Easy to use

Cons: Expensive to get satisfactory results

easy to install the aluminum sheets as ive done this to my trunk but the foam was slightly harder as it does not tell you where to put it. Once i found out where to put it and put it in these cut down on a lot of road noise

Features

HushMat Speaker Kit (for Medium-Sized Vehicles): The HushMat Speaker Kit for medium sized vehicles (Cr-12167) contains two HushMat Ultra foil backed damping sheets and two HushMat Wave Breakers.

  • HushMat Ultra: HushMat Ultra is a pressure-sensitive, constrained-layer damper, which has excellent adhesion to many difficult to bond substrates such as oily cold rolled steel, automotive E-coat, primers and finishes, and many plastics including polypropylene. The aluminum foil constraining layer and specially formulated viscoelastic polymer layer combine to give effective vibration damping over a wide temperature range. HushMat Ultra effectively treats low frequency, resonant noise from 0 to 1,000 Hz and can withstand ambient temperatures from -30° up to +550° Fahrenheit.
  • HushMat Wave Breaker: HushMat Wave Breaker can be used to treat standing wave or back wave in speaker locations of your car, truck, or SUV. Wave Breaker is a durable foam placed directly behind the speaker magnet to eliminate standing wave/back wave from that speaker. When HushMat Wave Breaker is placed behind the speaker, back waves are absorbed and broken up. This prevents the bounce back and therefore prevents the distortion. As a result, you get better sounding music.

Simple Installation: The HushMat Speaker Kit requires no surface cleaning or preparation (no alcohol or acetone wash needed). It trims with a standard razor knife or household scissors (no heat gun or special installation tools required). HushMat offers self adhesive peel & stick installation (no secondary glue needed).

Note: Once you adhere a sheet of HushMat Ultra to a surface you have 2-3 minutes of time to pull the sheet back and re-apply it. After 3 minutes the molecular bond begins and you will have difficulty removing the material.

Damping Specs: HushMat meets or exceeds damping specs GMO149M (for General Motor), WSB-M5G58-A1 (for Ford), and MS-CD 629 Type C (for Chrysler).
