Features

Overview: This connector kit comes with 6 Posi-Tap tap connectors. Posi-Tap connectors allow you to tap into wires without cutting or stripping them. Each connector has a tapered design and a threaded cap on each end. Just insert wire to be tapped into the large cap (this is the Tap end) and hand tighten into the barrel. The conductor point pierces the tapped wire without compromising its conductive integrity. Insert the stripped wire through the small cap (this is the Accessory end), then tighten. An internal conductor runs the length of the Posi-Tap, giving you a solid electrical connection. The Posi-Tap connectors are vibration proof, fully insulated, and reusable.

Note: If multiple wires are inserted into the accessory cap, the stripped wire ends should be twisted together.

Dimensions:

  • Posi-Tap Connectors: compatible with 14-18 gauge wire on the Tap end and 18-24 gauge wire on the Accessory end
    • Length: 1.25"
    • Maximum Diameter: 0.385"
    • Width of Slot in Large Cap (Tap end): 0.1"
    • Diameter of Hole in Small Cap (Accessory end): 0.15"

After ordering a Pioneer video receiver and the steering wheel control adapter, I reviewed the install instructions that Crutchfield provided. It was then that I realized I was going to have to tap into factory wires. After a little more research on Crutchfield's site, I found a video showing how to install the steering wheel control and that's where I learned about these awesome t-taps. I only wish Crutchfield would have recommended these up front so I could have saved the $7 on shipping. [ Brian  Jan 17, 2016 ]

Q
How big of wire can come out the top? I plan on tapping into speaker wire and using bigger wire to run to a powered sub.

I don't remember exactly, but I think a 14 or 12 gauge would fit. If your tapping into the speaker wire, from a sound quality and amp point of view, won't the wire your tapping into be the limiting issue in the circuit anyway .
