About the Boom Mat 5-1/4-inch Speaker Baffles

Boom Mat baffles protect your car's new speakers from moisture and dirt. Mounted behind the speaker, the baffle forms a mounting seal that also improves sound clarity by reducing panel vibration that could transfer to the speaker.

Boom Mat baffles protect your car's new speakers from moisture and dirt. Mounted behind the speaker, the baffle forms a mounting seal that also improves sound clarity by reducing panel vibration that could transfer to the speaker.

These baffles will protect your speakers. In many applications we recommend that you cut a hole in the bottom of the baffle, or remove the entire bottom of the baffle, to maintain good bass response while still protecting your speaker from dirt and water damage. Call one of our Advisors if you have questions — they'll be happy to share their expertise with you.

Features

Overview: These acoustic baffles are designed to be placed behind car speakers to protect the speaker from moisture and dirt which can damage speaker components. Along with providing a sealed chamber, they also form a mounting seal between the speaker and the mounting surface to eliminate panel to frame resonance. Baffles will improve door acoustics by reducing road noise and vibrations transferred to the back of the speaker cone. The baffles are pliable and can be compressed to fit most applications.

Customer Q&A

Q
Crutchfield asked: Why did you buy this?
A
Bought these baffles to protect a pair of Focal 130CVX, 5 1/4" coaxial speakers i'm Installing in the rear doors of my 2007 GMC Yukon XL with the non Bose, AC Delco stock stereo. [ Robert  Jan 22, 2019 ]
A
These speaker baffles are good for in-door installations as protection from water and dirt that can enter through the window gasketing at the top of the door. Crutchfield recommends cutting a hole in the bottom of the baffle (when viewed from the front installed direction) so as to still provide for a volume of air suspension to work with the woofer for bass response. This is in keeping with audio box design facts. [ David  Jan 05, 2019 ]

Q
Is it need for dash or rearparcel tray speakers ?
[ Debayan  Jan 03, 2018 ]

A
Boom Mats not only protect your speakers , they also significantly cut down on vibration and harmonic resonance , so , yes I would recommend them being used in dashboard and / or rear parcel tray applications .
[ Michael  Jan 13, 2018 ]
A
I am not a sound engineer so here's my guess. The boom Mat act as the enclosure of your home speaker diminishing the loss of back pressure thus enhancing the sound clarity and give better basses. Need or no need? it's up to you... I'd say go for it if there's room to put them on.
