About the Boom Mat 5"x7" Speaker Baffles

Boom Mat baffles protect your car's new speakers from moisture and dirt. Mounted behind the speaker, the baffle forms a mounting seal that also improves sound clarity by reducing panel vibration that could transfer to the speaker.

Boom Mat baffles protect your car's new speakers from moisture and dirt. Mounted behind the speaker, the baffle forms a mounting seal that also improves sound clarity by reducing panel vibration that could transfer to the speaker.

These baffles will protect your speakers. In many applications we recommend that you cut a hole in the bottom of the baffle, or remove the entire bottom of the baffle, to maintain good bass response while still protecting your speaker from dirt and water damage. Features

Overview: These acoustic baffles are designed to be placed behind car speakers to protect the speaker from moisture and dirt which can damage speaker components. Along with providing a sealed chamber, they also form a mounting seal between the speaker and the mounting surface to eliminate panel to frame resonance. Baffles will improve door acoustics by reducing road noise and vibrations transferred to the back of the speaker cone. The baffles are pliable and can be compressed to fit most applications.

Customer Q&A

Q
Crutchfield asked: Why did you buy this?
A
I could tell my previous speakers were getting damaged from the heat and water from being inside the door, hopeing these protect them a little better and help reduce loss sound. [ Glenn  May 08, 2018 ]
A
When installing new speakers you should always purchase either this type of protection or some other type. If your looking to improve quality sound and stop vehicle rattling. This is a two fold product. 1. Protects speakers from water damage, dust accumulating on speaker. 2. Creates a barrier around speaker allowing to have better bass performance, and eliminates bass vibration. [ Ryan  May 04, 2018 ]

After installing new door speakers there was a small gap around the edge of the rears. This should take care of that as well as make a better seal overall. If they can help stop the door from buzzing, bonus! [ Joshua  Jul 14, 2018 ]

I don't know I would think so. It depends on what you are using them for. Like myself I cut them in half so I could length wise just so the water coming from outside would not get the speakers wet. Some have said they don't like the way they sound totally sealed so they cut a hole in the bottom of the baffle to let some air move through it. Hope this helps
[ Louis  Oct 21, 2014 ]
A
Probably not. It will vary with each speaker but these did not leave a lot of room at all around my Alpine 5x7s. I actually should have bought the deeper ones for my application anyway, as they buzzed against the back of my wire installation and i ended up taking them out.
