About the Boom Mat 6"x8" Speaker Baffles

Boom Mat baffles protect your car's new speakers from moisture and dirt. Mounted behind the speaker, the baffle forms a mounting seal that also improves sound clarity by reducing panel vibration that could transfer to the speaker.

Boom Mat baffles protect your car's new speakers from moisture and dirt. Mounted behind the speaker, the baffle forms a mounting seal that also improves sound clarity by reducing panel vibration that could transfer to the speaker.

These baffles will protect your speakers. In many applications we recommend that you cut a hole in the bottom of the baffle, or remove the entire bottom of the baffle, to maintain good bass response while still protecting your speaker from dirt and water damage. Call one of our Advisors if you have questions — they'll be happy to share their expertise with you.

Features

Overview: These acoustic baffles are designed to be placed behind car speakers to protect the speaker from moisture and dirt which can damage speaker components. Along with providing a sealed chamber, they also form a mounting seal between the speaker and the mounting surface to eliminate panel to frame resonance. Baffles will improve door acoustics by reducing road noise and vibrations transferred to the back of the speaker cone. The baffles are pliable and can be compressed to fit most applications.

Customer Q&A

Q
Crutchfield asked: Why did you buy this?
A
Thought I would give these a try after much positive reviews, I hope to add to my comment here after the installation of these 6x8 Baffles and give my opinion after installing them into my FORD E 250 Super Duty. From the factory w premium sound (lol) that has six 6x8"s. I don't have time as I did when I was younger to build a great system, but I wish I knew how the six speakers are wired to the head unit. .?..or some relay to accommodate the two rear door speakers. I'm Baffled II ! [ bullet holes  Jul 31, 2018 ]

I had a little bit of a problem with water seeping through the window and it directly dripping onto my window controls. I had to then take that all apart and replace some components. I would rather buy the protection for my speakers then having risk water ruining a nice new set of jbls [ Brian  Nov 24, 2017 ]

The speakers I bought are 2-1/2" deep. All the other baffles for this speaker size were 4-1/2" deep. This one is only 3-1/2" deep. Not knowing how much extra space I have behind the speakers until I take the doors apart, I figured the safe course is to get the baffles that had the best chance of fitting. The factory speakers had no protection and the rain would get on them. I would have to replace my speakers every year. So I thought I would protect them with these and get years from my speakers and maybe even better sound. [ Stewart  Jul 29, 2018 ]

More than anything, I Picked the speaker baffles to protect my new Focal speakers from the elements. The speakers are getting installed into a vintage auto, with less than optimum protection. [ Michael  Feb 14, 2018 ]

Helps protect my new speaker purchase from water and elements... Extra bonus is they deaden the road noise coming through the door so I hear more from my new speaker's too! Why don't OEM speakers come with these? [ Garth  Jan 20, 2018 ]

The speaker I bought will be mounted in the front doors. If any water seeps inside the door it can ruin expensive speakers. By mounting the speakers in the baffles, they can protect the speakers from damage. Crutchfield suggests cutting the bottom half out, so as to allow the door to act as a speaker box, thereby giving better sound. [ WILLIAM  Apr 11, 2017 ]

I bought these as a test with full-range speakers. Actually muffled the sound. Would have worked better with tweeters, and let the full-range speakers resonate like factory speakers without these baffles. [ DARRELL  Aug 17, 2016 ]
