About the Boom Mat 6"x9" Speaker Baffles

Boom Mat baffles protect your car's new speakers from moisture and dirt. Mounted behind the speaker, the baffle forms a mounting seal that also improves sound clarity by reducing panel vibration that could transfer to the speaker.

Boom Mat baffles protect your car's new speakers from moisture and dirt. Mounted behind the speaker, the baffle forms a mounting seal that also improves sound clarity by reducing panel vibration that could transfer to the speaker.

These baffles will protect your speakers. In many applications we recommend that you cut a hole in the bottom of the baffle, or remove the entire bottom of the baffle, to maintain good bass response while still protecting your speaker from dirt and water damage. Call one of our Advisors if you have questions — they'll be happy to share their expertise with you.

Features

Overview: These acoustic baffles are designed to be placed behind car speakers to protect the speaker from moisture and dirt which can damage speaker components. Along with providing a sealed chamber, they also form a mounting seal between the speaker and the mounting surface to eliminate panel to frame resonance. Baffles will improve door acoustics by reducing road noise and vibrations transferred to the back of the speaker cone. The baffles are pliable and can be compressed to fit most applications.

The new 6x9 rear deck speakers in my E36 M3 do not fit into the factory baffles, thought I would try these and see if it improves sound quality, otherwise the speakers are wide open to the entire trunk. For $8, if they don't work not a big deal. [ Andrew  Sep 18, 2018 ]

Seemed like they should fit my front doors in 2017 Dodge Charger with Beats Audio. Hoping they will reduce the bottoming out/distortion of the stock 6x9 woofers which seem to already have decent power and bass, but tend to bottom out on certain frequencies. [ Andrew  Dec 07, 2018 ]

Just purchased 4 JBL 6x9 speakers for my Jeep Patriot. Love them but I'm trying to clean up the sound a little more and am hoping to push more of that sound into the car instead of the door cavity. Once I get and install them, I will be leaving a review in hopes it helps others in making a choice. [ Daniel A.  Nov 15, 2017 ]

the only place to mount speakers in my 89 Ford van is the doors unless using a box type enclosure. Speakers being 3 inches deep and doors being only 4 inches I need shallow baffles. [ Collin  Apr 27, 2017 ]
A
Basically using these for a speaker box where there is no space for a box. ??? Try anything once! [ Glenn  Apr 02, 2017 ]
A
I chose these to help produce a more full sound. The factory 6x9 speakers located in the back deck have a lot of air space and we need to fabricate brackets so to help with separation from front of speaker to rear of speaker is a must. These will help with that as well as create an enclosure and help with noise vibrations. [ Edward  Mar 30, 2017 ]
A
Helps keep moisture and dust out. provides a good seal for speaker. [ MIKE  Oct 09, 2016 ]

[ Michael  Aug 07, 2016 ]

I purchased the boom mats to help protect the new speakers I purchased from dirt, debris and moisture and I wanted them to help with the sound quality of the new speakers and their ability to direct the sound and bass notes. [ Michael  Jun 24, 2016 ]

These guys always make a great product that actually does what it is supposed to do, eliminate unwanted noise. [ Douglas   May 05, 2016 ]
A
Used baffles on Crutchfield-bought speakers in my first car: a 1981 Honda Prelude (miss it, man). They were very effective in producing superior sound, and the baffles protect the speaker backs in the doors. I'm using them now in the trunk since that's too big an air space for the rear deck 6x9s. [ Russell  Apr 19, 2016 ]
A
The window seals in the front doors of my 2012 Ram Express allow water to pour into my doors. Very poor design by Ram!!! The water intrusion ruined a pair of 200.00 CDT Audio speakers in less than a year. I don't want that to happen again so I am installing these to keep new speakers high and dry. [ Gregory  Mar 22, 2016 ]

Q
I have a 2014 Ram quad cab truck. The speakers rattle the doors terribly bad on all four doors. I brought it back to the dealership to see if there was something wrong. The techs at the dealership said thats the way it is and if I wanted to improve it, they recommended installing sound deadening material. I'm leasing the truck and I don't want to spend the time and money on that. Is there anything else you would recommend for me to do? Would speaker baffles be another choice to stop the rattling? Your input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

A
The baffles will isolate the sound waves from the back of the door panel and thus cut down on vibration, but they are primarily used to improve the sound quality by limiting the reflective / out-of-phase sound waves that sometimes emanate from the back of the speakers into the cabin. All cars are not build equal, so the benefit is on a case by case.

Hi Jeff. Sorry but I know if these baffles will help lessen your door rattle. I installed these thinking that it would help enhance the bass sound. Unfortunately it did just the opposite. In short, the speaker couldn't breathe, hence the bass output was very weak. The only benefit I realized was that it can protect your door speakers from getting wet if there's a leak in your door. To help make it sound better, I had to cut off the lower half of the baffle so that the speaker can breathe and perform as intended. Opening up the lower half will still protect the speaker from water dripping down on to the speaker. If you have the time, I'd give it a try.

The baffles will help with the rattling but won't remove all of it, and may change your sound quality.
[ STEPHEN  Mar 02, 2015 ]
A
It mite,,,but sounds like u need that mat to go behind yur speakers,,I think baffles is for water proofing.
[ GEORGE  Mar 02, 2015 ]
A
I don't think these would help your problem. I bought these and wish to take them out. Just have to find the time to remove all the door panels. These ruined the bass response to the speakers I put in, the factory was actually better. I would ask other truck owners if they have the same problem. I worked for Dodge and don't ever remember the speakers rattling the doors..
[ Robert  Mar 02, 2015 ]
A
In my opinion the baffles are only good for protecting the backside of speakers from moisture. They might help a very tiny bit for the rattles, but it sounds like the entire door needs a sheet of dynamat, or each door may have a rod, cable ect. that needs insulated. I would take door panel off to see if that was the case
[ DAVID  Mar 02, 2015 ]
Q
Has anyone installed these baffles in the 6 by 9 openings in the front and rear doors of a 2015 Dodge Ram Crew Cab? How did they work? Any modifications needed?

A
they work great to protect speakers from water dripping down, but they do cut bass response. I suggest cutting the bottom half off and leave a shroud over the speakers.
[ Keith  Jun 02, 2018 ]
Q
Would Anyone know if these would fit in the door of a 2016 RAM 1500 Crew Cab? I know that the there are 4x 6x9's in total, one in each door, I hear 6x9's with a mounting depth of 3&1/4" bottom out in the front on the window mechanism, but in the back it's wide open, does anyone know?

A
You will want to contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat to discuss compatibility with your specific vehicle. They will be able to pull up research on your Ram model to help determine if the baffles will work properly.
