Display of power

The Sound Ordnance B-24 enclosure is home to a pair of 12" polypropylene woofers in airtight individual chambers, plus a third chamber with a slot port for low-down bass vibrations. This bandpass design produces huge bass impact, and you can watch the woofers work through their chambers' acrylic windows. The enclosure handles up to 500 watts RMS, so it's a great match for the Pioneer amp.

Cool runnings

The Pioneer GM-D9601 amp's Class D amplifier technology keeps this powerful amp cool, allowing it to be mounted in small and out-of-the-way places. The amp delivers 500 watts RMS to the Sound Ordnance enclosure, so you can count on some serious bass. The amp also features speaker-level inputs to use if your stereo doesn't have RCA connectors, a low-pass filter to tune the bass response to your car, and a wired remote that allows you to control the bass from the front seat.

Excellent Package !!!!!!! The Sound Ordnance / Pioneer 500 Watt Bass Package is GREAT !!! I never thought that 500-Watt RMS would be enough especially since I like my music loud and clear. But this is a match made in heaven. I installed the package and it produced good bass but seemed to be a bit short on the bass one ever so slight turn on the gain control changed all of that now it produces great bass no bass knob needed. This is a great buy for the price.

Pros: Very good package for the price

Cons: I haven't found one

Amplifier Features

CEA 2006 Compliant: The Pioneer GM-D9601 mono subwoofer amplifier power ratings are measured according to the Consumer Electronics Association's CEA-2006 standards. These standards allow you to accurately compare the rated power output of all CEA-2006 compliant amplifiers, even from different brands. Manufacturers who adhere to the standards can display the CEA-2006 logo on their products and packaging. CEA-2006 Specifications:

  • Power Output:
    • 500 watts x 1 at 4Ω with <1% THD+N
    • 800 watts x 1 at 2Ω with <1% THD+N
    • 1,200 watts x 1 at 1Ω with <1% THD+N
  • Signal to Noise Ratio: 75 dBA

1Ω Stable: The GM-D9601 is capable of powering load impedances down to 1Ω.

Auto Turn-on: When using a high voltage speaker level input, a signal sensing circuit will automatically turn the amp on and off along with the source unit.

Amplifier Dimensions:

  • Width: 13"
  • Height: 2.375"
  • Depth: 7.875"

Amplifier Controls

Gain Control: The gain control is continuously variable from 200 mV to 6.5 V.

Crossover: The low pass crossover is always engaged, and is continuously variable from 40 to 240 Hz.

Bass Boost: The bass boost circuit is variable from 0 to +18 dB, centered at 50 Hz. Adjustment is made using the included wired remote.

Wired Remote: The bass boost circuit is controlled using the included wired remote, which can be mounted within easy reach of the driver. The remote has integral flanges on both sides to mount the unit under the dash. The remote measures:

  • Width: 1.73" (2.63" including mounting tabs)
  • Height: 0.75"
  • Depth: 1.62" (2.2" including control knob and cable)

Amplifier Connections

Power: The power and ground connections are set screw terminals that will accommodate up to 4-gauge wire. The included 3mm Allen wrench is used to tighten and loosen the terminals. Pioneer recommends different power and ground wire gauges based on the length of the power wire:

  • 6-Gauge: up to 11' 10"
  • 4-Gauge: up to 21'

Remote Turn-on: The remote connection is a set screw terminal that will accommodate up to 8-gauge wire. The included 3mm Allen wrench is used to tighten and loosen the terminals.

Speaker Connections: There are two pair of speaker output set screw terminals, internally shorted together so it's easy to connect two subwoofers. The terminals will accommodate up to 8-gauge wire. The included 3mm Allen wrench is used to tighten and loosen the terminals.

Signal Input: The amplifier features one pair of stereo RCA inputs. If no line level signal is available, use the included speaker wire to RCA adapters.

RCA Output: One pair of preamp output jacks provide a convenient way to daisy-chain an additional amplifier without running another set of RCA cables from the front of the vehicle to the amplifier location. The output is not affected by the internal crossover.

Subwoofer Features

Materials: The Sound Ordnance B-24 is a pre-loaded bandpass-style enclosure with dual 12" subwoofers. It is constructed of 5/8" MDF (medium-density fiberboard), covered in black carpet. It also features dual clear acrylic front windows for viewing the subwoofers. The subwoofers feature polypropylene cones with rubber surrounds, 2" voice coils, and a heavy-gauge stamped steel basket.

Box Design: The enclosure has a sealed chamber in front of each subwoofer, and a vented chamber behind both subwoofers. The front-firing slot port is 2-13/16" wide and 13-1/2" high, and is centered between the speakers. The box has a total of 2.9 cubic feet of airspace.

Terminals: The B-24 is equipped with a single set of spring-post speaker terminals, mounted in the rear panel. The spring terminals will accept bare wire, pin connectors, and single banana plugs, but are spaced too far apart for dual banana plugs. Inside the enclosure, the two drivers are wired together to present a 4Ω load to the speaker terminals.

Brackets: Brackets are recommended for securing the enclosure to your vehicle.

Specifications:

  • Frequency Response: 42-165 Hz
  • Power Handling: Up to 500 watts RMS, 1000 watts peak
  • Sensitivity: 91dB
  • Dimensions:
    • Width: 29.8125"
    • Height: 15.125"
    • Depth (bottom): 18.25"
    • Depth (top): 10"

This package on paper looks to be the cheapest package versus awesome quality. With the 500 Watts RMS being pushed through both of the 4 Ohm Subs which are in the Bandpass box creates sounds that open air can never wish. I have also found that the bandpass will actually work more like protection for your sub heads as well and provide richer sounds. [ William Jordan  Dec 28, 2017 ]

Q
So what wiring kits go with this sub/amp?
[ Tim  Jun 10, 2018 ]
2 answers
A
You will have to find a wiring kit that supports the amp required fuses. I purchased Crutchfield's CKD4 amplifier wiring kit. I used the fuse holder using 2 X 50A fuses totaling 100A. So far it has worked great!

Q
will 12 inch led light up subwoofer grill fit these subs and box?
[ brian  May 16, 2018 ]
1 answer
A
The woofers are pre-mounted into a bandbass style enclosure so, there is no option for adding grills. The woofers are well protected by the clear acrylic windows.

Will this fit my Dodge Dakota?
[ Matthew  Apr 24, 2018 ]

A
I don't think so. You will need a little more space behind the cabin seats so the front part of the sub box and amp have space or else it may often run hot.
[ mark  Apr 24, 2018 ]
A
If you have a crew cab you could put it in the back seat but ideally no this would not be practical in a Dodge dakota

Gotta have an amp but you probably know that. I have a 2004 blazer with two tv hooked all up to one battery an they sound so good. Best system I've had an I've had a few I love the sound. Only thing is you may want to get some tweeter my bass drown out my factory unless I turn the subs on five with radio. But with my phone hooked up I can turn sub up an sounds fantastic.

Q
I have the Pioneer GM-D9601 amplifier and Sound Ordnance bandpass enclosure with two 12" subwoofers. I have one rca jack coming from the passenger side rear speaker giving me one rca jack to plug into the amp. My first question is... do I need another one from the other rear speaker because I know older music they would put the bass on one channel and the mids and highs on another. Is that even an issue anymore. My second question is... will it increase power if I put the wire going from the amp to the bandpass box to the first set of plus and minus (+)/(-) +/- on the amp or the first plus and last minus (+)/- +/(-)? Is this considered bridged and will it make a difference with one rca input from one rear speaker? Thanks and sorry for any confusion.

Hello Jeremy. I don't think I am familiar with your setup. I have the bass package that you have however, I run RCA plugs from my head unit to the input on my 9601 and I use 4guage speaker wire from my 9601 to the Sound Ordnance Enclosure. The 9601 is a mono-block amp it only has one channel. It has two output connections but only one channel. If you want to increase the power output of the amp you will need to use a speaker system with a lower resistance than the S/O's they are only 4ohm and the 9601 will only output 500 rms watts at a 4 ohm resistance. If you connect a 2 ohm resistance speaker I think the rms output will increase to 800 watts.
