Vintage looks and clean, dynamic sound

Klipsch Heresys in a stereo audio system

Use a pair of the Heresy IVs for sweet stereo sound in your listening room.

When Klipsch introduced the original Heresy in 1957, there wasn't another speaker like it. And that's still true for their latest-generation Heresy IV.

Over the years, Heresy's clear, low-distortion sound has been a hit with our customers. The previous-version Heresy III earned dozens of glowing reviews from listeners with a broad range of musical tastes.

Updated, innovative design

For the Heresy IV, Klipsch once again tweaked this classic design, going with a new polyimide-diaphragm midrange driver. And the tweeter gets an all-new wide-dispersion phase plug, which creates a larger listening "sweet spot."

For the first time, the Heresy now features a rear port, which improves low-frequency extension by about 10Hz for more authoritative sound.

Heresy's high-efficiency design — 99 dB sensitivity — makes it an excellent choice for use with low- and medium-powered tube amps.

Proudly made in the USA

The Heresy IV is designed and hand-built in Hope, Arkansas. It's available in several attractive book-matched wood veneer finishes, which provide a "mirror" image of each other.

That's because each pair of Heresys is sourced from the same piece of timber, with the speakers precisely arranged to provide an aesthetically pleasing mirror image at the splice.

Bi-amp or bi-wire for the best performance

Each speaker comes equipped with two pairs of speaker inputs for bi-amping or bi-wiring. Since they don't include any speaker wire, consider reading our article on choosing and installing speaker wire to find the best option for your system.

Features

Heresy IV: First introduced in 1957, the Heresy started life as a compact center channel speaker for the Klipschorn in three-speaker stereo arrays. The Heresy is a compact, three-way design that uses horn-loaded compression drivers for midrange and treble reproduction and a direct radiating 12"woofer for the low frequencies.

3-Way Design: The Klipsch Heresy IV loudspeaker features a three-way design that uses horn-loaded compression drivers for midrange and treble reproduction, plus a direct radiating 12" woofer for the low frequencies.

  • 1" Tractrix Horn Loaded Tweeter: The 1" titanium diaphragm compression driver (K-107-TI) is coupled to a Tractrix Horn for smoother high-end response with greater extension, enhanced imaging, and more powerful dynamics.
  • 1.75" Tractrix Horn Loaded Midrange: The 1.75" polyimidediaphragm compression driver (K-702) is coupled with a horn for detailed, accurate midrange sound.
  • 12" Fiber-Composite Cone Woofer: The 12" fiber-composite cone woofer (K-28-E) delivers powerful low frequencies. The 12" woofer also employs a treated cloth surround for added efficiency and flexibility.

Crossover Network: For signal purity and perfect driver integration, the crossover (HF: 4500Hz/MF: 850Hz) on the Heresy IV features the finest components and Klipsch custom internal wiring.

Rear Tractrix Port: The rear Tractrix port of the Heresy IV floorstanding loudspeaker is perfectly matched to the cabinet and woofer, creating ideal airflow with minimal distortion and turbulence even at the lowest frequencies. Klipsch Tractrix ports have custom designed inner flares that help reduce air turbulence entering the port. Less turbulent air helps reduce port noise for cleaner, more powerful bass.

Dual Binding Post Speaker Terminals: The Klipsch Heresy IV loudspeaker has two sets of binding posts connected by jumpers. Using the dual binding posts, you can bi-amp or bi-wire the speakers. The binding post terminals will accept banana plugs (single/dual), pin-connectors, spade-connectors, and bare wire.

  • Bi-Wiring: Bi-wiring can provide noticeable improvements in the overall transparency of your loudspeakers. Run separate speaker wires to the low & high frequency drivers from a single amplifier (the upper set of binding posts are for the high frequency drivers; the lower set of binding posts are for the low frequency drivers).
  • Bi-Amping: Bi-amping allows you to use separate amplifiers for the high & low frequency sections of your loudspeaker for greater dynamic range & lower distortion. We recommend that your separate amplifiers have identical gain to preserve the speaker's voicing balance.

Note: If you decide to bi-wire or bi-amp, you must remove the jumpers between the terminal posts (failure to do this could result in damage to your amplifier and loudspeakers).

Placement: The Klipsch Heresy IV loudspeaker will perform well in a variety of locations. Corner, floor placement will deliver the highest degree of low bass reinforcement and the pre-installed slant riser base helps to compensate for the Heresy's short stature. This riser may be removed for shelf or cabinet placement. Self-stick rubber pads are supplied for attachment to the bottom of the cabinet to prevent scratching of shelves and hard surfaces. Best results will be achieved using the following general guidelines.

  • Place on a common wall 6' to 15' apart and position them equidistant from the wall behind the speakers.
  • Angle speakers toward the listener and even with or forward of any adjacent obstructions.
  • Placing them near a corner or wall provides the greatest amount of bass while moving the speakers away from room boundaries reduces bass.
  • Asymmetrical placement of a pair of speakers from adjacent side walls can smooth room-induced bass unevenness.
Note: Experiment with the above guidelines to suit your taste and to compensate for your room's acoustic characteristics.

Heritage Series (Made in the USA): The Klipsch Heritage Series is built and handmade in the USA at Klipsch's manufacturing facility in Hope Arkansas. They are meticulously handcrafted and assembled using the finest quality materials, even down to the highest-grade adhesives and fasteners (no detail goes unnoticed). Each Heritage Series loudspeaker utilizes Klipsch proprietary horn-loaded technology to bring a live music listening experience into the home. All Heritage Series loudspeakers are available in a variety high-quality wood veneers. Klipsch Heritage loudspeakers are built to rock the house and stand the test of time.  This is a speaker that will be handed down for generations to come.

4 Principles of Klipsch Sound: Paul W. Klipsch believed four principles to be the foundation for great sound. They continue to drive the design of every new Klipsch speaker, today and tomorrow.

  • High Efficiency & Low Distortion: Klipsch horn technology is highly efficient, providing more accurate sound with less power and less distortion - resulting in louder, cleaner audio. Klipsch's Law: Efficiency is inversely proportional to distortion.
  • Controlled Directivity: Klipsch horn technology accurately directs sound to the proper locations, which, in turn, creates a more lifelike soundstage without wasting acoustic energy where sound is not needed or desired.
  • Wide Dynamic Range: The softest sounds are reproduced with remarkable clarity and the loudest sounds are delivered without harshness or distortion - with the greatest possible range between the softest and loudest sounds.
  • Flat Frequency Response: Audio is delivered without frequency bias - no unnatural highs, mids or lows - reproducing recorded sound as accurately as possible without colorization.

Q
What amplifier will be great for these speaker Heresy IV?
[ PAUL L  Aug 07, 2021 ]

A
I hooked mine into a 4k surround unit because i like concert videos. But you could certainly do better if opting for a 2 channel setup
[ LOGAN  Aug 11, 2021 ]
A
Any high end amp will produce warm, rich sound. Had Klipsch Quartets and was surprised at the improvement, particularly with 4K movies and any newer CD. Didn't think Bolero could sound any better-wood instruments richer. Led, Skynyrd and Amy Winehouse, all sound great.
[ TIM  Aug 07, 2021 ]
A
a very good tube amp

Paul, I'm using a Yamaha RX-V485, 5.1 receiver. It works great as 5.1 amp with the Klipsch Heresy IV, RP-600Ms(surround), 450C (Center channel) and 120 SW(sub woofer). The optical from the TV and HDMI (Bluetooth setting on the RX-V485) from the DVD player work fine. Be sure to have a DVD player with 2 HDMI outputs, audio to receiver and video to TV. I'm also using 5 Musiccast speakers around the house with the Yamaha receiver which is nice. They have nice quality. You don't have to use the receiver for the Musiccast speaker network to work. So, don't worry about losing the whole system when the receiver wears out. You could still stream to a speaker and use that as the master. Tom

I have an Onkyo TX-RZ800 receiver, & they sound great! Based on online reviews, I would like to try something known to be "smoother" than the Onkyo, but unfortunately, I don't have the luxury of being able to try different amps ??. That said, I've had 3-4 sets of bookshelf speakers & a tower or 2 before the Heresys, and I LOVE these speakers! No complaints with my Onkyo! Oh, BTW, I do have a sub which really helps round out the low end.Highly recommended!
[ BARRY  Aug 07, 2021 ]
A
Really anything will drive these! I have heard great things about the Decware Zen as a pairing. It is a 2 watt tube amplifier. Until that arrives, I've been using at Sony 1080 home theatre receiver, and they also sound fantasitc. If you need a kinda 'all in one' that is more conveneinet that tubes, the update bluesound powernode or the naim unity atom are worth a look.
[ BRENNAN  Aug 07, 2021 ]

I have a NAD C 368 BluOS-2i that I got from Crutchfield and really like the match.

Q
What is the height of the speakers without the risers? I have 24 inch shelf and the speakers are listed as 24 inches and 13/16. Hopefully it would fit minus the risers.
[ John  Dec 27, 2021 ]

A
Mine measured 22.25"
[ TIMOTHY  Jan 04, 2022 ]
A
The cabinet is 22 1/2" tall, but the risers are attached to the cabinet with 4 screws on each speakers. A more important consideration would be the rear port should have the suggested space of approximately 24" or you you end up with a boomy and somewhat distorted bass. The cabinet is 13 1/2" deep and weights 45lbs each, so that must be one awesome shelf system you have. What you are proposing flies in the face of what the designers had in mind when they developed these speakers. I would look for something different. There are plenty of alternatives that are front ported, that will provide a sound you will be happy with.
[ JOHN  Dec 31, 2021 ]
A
Without the risers the measurement appears to be 22.5" , so they should just fit. Heresy IVs as "bookshelf speakers"... LOL these things ROCK They do have a port and you can feel the air moving, so hopefully the shelves have clearance in the back
[ MICHAEL D  Dec 29, 2021 ]
A
22"
[ BARRY  Dec 28, 2021 ]
A
Hi John, The height is 22 7/16 not counting the risers. Hope that helps you. I love these speakers. I found they sounded less bright and more musical pulled forward away from the wall. They do need a sub and a strong amplifier to get the most out of these guys. (I'm not talking about volume). They sounded really good with the Naim Uniti Atom. But when I exchanged it for the Naim Nova, it was unbelievable. I was really not expecting that level of improvement.
[ BETH  Dec 28, 2021 ]
A
22 1/4". I measured 22 1/4" x 15 1/2" x 13 1/4". I'm quite happy with them in a Klipsch 5.1 setup with Heresy iv fronts, RP-600M for surround(used to be fronts), RP-450C center and R-120SW sub. Seems nicely balanced.

Q
I have a Marantz Model 30. Will this power the Heresy IV to a full sound?
[ HENRY  Nov 15, 2021 ]
12 answers
A
Yes it should power them very well. These speakers are highly efficient (98-99% i think) so very little power is needed to get these to perform well.
[ WALTER  Nov 16, 2021 ]
A
These are pretty easy to drive. I've paired them with a 45 watt Onkyo receiver and a 60 watt integrated from Schiit and I get everything out of them. The Marantz will have no issue. In terms of getting a "full sound" it will be more a question of positioning them in your room than anything else. I've had mine over a year now and I love them.
[ RICHARD  Nov 16, 2021 ]
A
I use a Marantz 2238B. It is more than enough. The heresy is very efficient
[ DAVID  Nov 16, 2021 ]
A
I'm using a Yamaha RX-V485 rated at 80 watts/8 ohms. They work great. It's a Klipsch 5.1 system with the Heresy IVs, 450C, 120 SW and RP 600Ms for surround. Your Marantz will power them just fine.
[ THOMAS  Nov 16, 2021 ]
A
In my opinion yes!!! These speakers are very efficient! I l often listen at extreme dB levels I have 150w amp and rarely turn past 50% volume. Most people would not enjoy it at 50% volume! (Too loud for most)! You should have more than enough power to rocket these speakers to sound like you're listening to a live, loud band! By the way, the sound is amazing! Very detailed live stage, sound. The best centering and great imaging that sounds like you can hear the different position of instruments!!!
[ LARRY  Nov 16, 2021 ]
A
Marantz 30 is high end. Would expect an excellent warm sound. Got mine to replace Klipsch Quartets. Marked improvement and richer sound.
[ TIM  Nov 16, 2021 ]
A
Depends on how loud you listen to then an your room size. With that said, I say yes to your question.
[ ROBIN L  Nov 15, 2021 ]
A
Yes! With 100 Watts/channel, you'll have no problem driving them as loud as you like. They're very efficient speakers.
[ BARRY  Nov 15, 2021 ]
A
My amp has lower output 75W @8 ohms and I can easily drive my Heresy IVs to full power. The speakers are extremely efficient. I do have them setup in an apartment sized living room. If my room was bigger I would probably opt for Fortes or Cornwalls and amp with greater output.
[ ROBERT  Nov 15, 2021 ]
A
Klipsch Heresy IV's are extremely efficient speakers. You can push them easily with any amp. The Marantz model 30 has 100 clean watts so there will be no problem with this match. In fact you will want to keep your volume down or these speakers will blow your hair back! I love mine and I drive mine easily with a vintage 80 wpc amp. Warming, these speakers need space and separation in order to breathe and sound there best.
[ JOHN  Nov 15, 2021 ]
A
Absolutely. The Klipsch are very efficient. You will love them. Be sure you give them plenty of time to break in. They start out pretty bright but settle in nicely after about 50 - 60 hours. At 100 hours they are golden. Enjoy!
[ BRIAN  Nov 15, 2021 ]
A
Without question. The speaker is very efficient and your amplifier is rated at 100 WPC into 8 Ohms. I have driven the Heresey IV pair with as little as 20 WPC with great results.
[ KEVIN  Nov 15, 2021 ]
Q
Will these do double duty for music and home theater?
[ JAMES  Aug 21, 2021 ]
4 answers
A
Hello James S! For music they sound great! I use a Nad 368 2-channel Amp and use the Heresy's as my front left and right and a pair of Klipsch reference premiere RP-260F as my rear left and right speakers plus a pair of subs and the sound is incredible. I don't use the Heresys in a home video system! only for using with a turntable and lps. I would say the Heresys would work well with whatever you wanted to use them for! It also depends on what your using to push them!
[ JEFFREY LANE  Aug 22, 2021 ]
A
Absolutely. They were initially devised as a center channel to go with some of the larger speakers in the Heritage line! I use mine as part of a 2.1 TV/Streaming/Gaming/Vinyl do it all system and they sound incredible doing everything.
[ RYAN  Aug 21, 2021 ]
A
Yes, absolutely! They need some space to really perform. I look forward to enjoying them for many years to come. Try Concert for George on them!!!!!!!
[ ROBIN L  Aug 21, 2021 ]
A
Absolutely
[ MANUEL  Aug 21, 2021 ]
Q
Will a Yamaha RS202 have enough power for these speakers?
[ STEPHEN  Jul 01, 2020 ]
5 answers
A
I'm using a Yamaha RX-V485 with mine and that's plenty, even overkill. It's rated at 115 watts so your 100 watts would be fine.
[ THOMAS  Dec 28, 2021 ]
A
Look at the sensitivity rating of this speaker (99dB), this can be driven with a very low output amp (5 - 10 watts) to a satisfying volume in a normal room (in a warehouse, you might need more power). So yes your Technics receiver would have no problem from a power standpoint. However an old receiver probably would not sound as good as a more modern one (unless your receiver has been extensively rebuild - new capacitors and resisters). The speaker will be very revealing of any shortcoming farther up your audio chain.
[ BRUCE  Mar 12, 2021 ]
A
A 4 cylinder Kia motor could move the wheels on a Ferrari but it just wouldn't make sense.
[ Chad  Dec 26, 2020 ]
A
Yes easily. These speakers are very efficient.
[ BRIAN  Jul 01, 2020 ]
A
I have no clue on the power of your equipment but I can say that I have a 25 year old Technics receiver and it has the power to give the whole block music to your ears. I love my speakers and hope to get an upgrade on my receiver so I can use the speakers the best possible way. Hope this helps. ~ Deb
