Music and more — anywhere you want it

Connect your disc player or turntable with a built-in phono preamp to the Amp to enjoy vinyl or CDs — not only on the connected speakers, but also throughout the house, wherever you have a Sonos player. The Amp's HDMI input means the same thing goes for your TV's audio.

Top of Sonos Amp with a circle-in-square design

Sonos wanted the Amp to be a visual representation of music, so its circle-in-a-square design is reminiscent of turntables, records, and CDs.

And like all Sonos products, the Amp works seamlessly with a host of streaming music services, including Pandora®, Spotify®, and TIDAL. You also have access to thousands of radio stations with TuneIn and iHeartRadio. And if you subscribe to SiriusXM, you can listen to all your favorite programming on any Sonos player in your system.

Compatible with AirPlay 2

The Sonos Amp has AirPlay® 2 built in. That means you can stream audio directly from your iPhone®, iPad®, or Mac® computer through your Sonos system.

And if you subscribe to Apple Music®, you can use Siri on your iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV 4K to control Apple Music with voice commands.

Easy app control

Download the free Sonos app to turn your mobile device into a convenient Sonos controller. Easily navigate and search through playlists and tracks stored on your computer, or select an internet radio station. Create customized playlists on the fly for individual rooms or for playback over your entire Sonos system. You can also mute or adjust the volume of each Amp.

Trueplay™ speaker tuning for optimal sound

These speakers are compatible with Sonos's Trueplay room correction feature. If you use your Sonos control app on an iPhone®, iPad®, or iPod® touch, you can use that same Apple device to fine-tune your system's sound. It plays tones through the connected speakers, and uses the mic built into your device to measure how the sound reflects off your walls and furnishings. It then adjusts the Sonos Amp's settings automatically for the best possible sound. (Currently for iOS® devices only.)

In-Wall Speakers

Sonos Architectural by Sonance: The all-new Sonos Architectural by Sonance is a collection of in-wall, in-ceiling, and outdoor passive speakers (all sold separately) designed and optimized for the Sonos Amp in partnership with Sonance. With a shared commitment to superior sound and great design, Sonos and Sonance partnered with the objective of producing loudspeakers that disappear into any space while providing clear sound, even coverage, high-quality performance, and ease of use.

Two-Way In-Wall Speaker: The Sonos In-Wall by Sonance speaker features a two-way driver design with a 1" fabric soft-dome tweeter and a 6.5" polypropylene cone woofer with rubber surround. The tweeter features an integrated wave-guide and is aimable to help with high-frequency dispersion. The woofer provides dynamic, rich mid and low frequencies. These in-wall speakers can be utilized in a two-channel stereo configuration, distributed audio application, or surround sound setup.

Note: These are wired passive in-wall loudspeakers and will require a separate amplifier and connection of speaker wire (they are not wireless or self-powered).

Optimized For The Sonos Amp: Sonos and Sonance have designed these in-wall speakers from the ground up, making them specifically optimized for the included Sonos Amp. When the in-wall speakers are connected to the Sonos Amp, the amplifier will automatically detect them, and automatically adjust its sound to suit the specific loudspeakers. Up to three pair of Sonos Architectural by Sonance speakers can be powered by a single Sonos Amp.

  • Sonos Streaming Services & Multiroom Audio: A connection to the Amp brings the benefits of the Sonos system to every connected Sonos Architectural by Sonance speaker, including an easy-to-use Sonos Controller app (for Apple iOS 11.0+ and Android OS 7.0+) that works with all of your favorite streaming services (Apple Music, Amazon Music, TIDAL, Pandora, Spotify, SiriusXM, Google Play Music, TuneIn, iHeartRadio, and more ); AirPlay 2 control, regular software updates, and the ability to add additional Sonos speakers and components to expand your setup over time for an expansive multiroom audio experience.
  • Trueplay Tuning (for Apple iOS Only): By connecting the in-wall speakers to the Sonos Amp, you'll unlock Trueplay Tuning (for Apple iOS), which accounts for the size, construction, and layout of the room where the speakers are installed and adjusts for the best possible sound. The layout of a room, and where speakers are installed, can have a significant impact on the sound that you hear. Trueplay, an auto-tune app within the Sonos App, uses the microphone in your Apple iOS 7.0+ device to measure how sound reflects off walls, furnishings and other surfaces in a room, and then fine tunes the in-wall speakers to make sure it sounds great no matter where you've placed it.

Note: The Sonos Architectural speakers will work with most amplifiers. However, you will not be able to take advantage of the Trueplay room tuning capabilities with any amplifier other than the Sonos Amp.

Spring-Post Terminals: The Sonos In-Wall by Sonance speakers feature a set of gold-plated spring-post terminals to connect your in-wall rated speaker wire. The spring-post terminals will accommodate 16-12 gauge speaker wire, single or dual banana plugs, and pin-connectors. The gold-plated terminals provide excellent audio signal transfer and resist corrosion. The in-wall speakers are 8-ohm compatible.

Mounting Options: The Sonos In-Wall by Sonance speakers require a rectangular cutout of 6.9375" (w) x 10.75" (h) x 3.625" (d) in the wall. Four integrated screw-down dog-ear clamps secure each loudspeaker against the wall. There should be at least 1.0" around the edge of the opening inside the wall to accommodate the dog-ear clamps. The outer frame and grille of the in-wall speaker measure 7.875" (w) x 11.75" (h) x 0.1875" (d).

  • If you are using the in-wall speakers to replicate sound from your TV, the speakers should be installed a few inches away from the right and left edges of the television with the tweeter of the speaker installed as close to ear level (from the seating position) as possible.
  • If you are using the in-wall speakers as distributed audio speakers and not flanking a television, Sonos and Sonance recommends placing them in a location that will provide the best coverage for the room.
  • If you are using the in-wall loudspeakers as surround speakers, the speakers should be installed directly to the left and right side or behind the main listening position with the tweeter as close to ear level (from the seating position) as possible.

Note: The in-wall speakers are not rated for outdoor use and should only be installed indoors.

Paintable Grilles: The Sonos In-Wall by Sonance speakers feature specially designed, rectangular grilles which can be painted to match the wall. These slim profile grilles on sit 0.1875" from the wall.

Integrated Amplifier

125W x 2Ch Amplifier: The Sonos Amp features a built-in state-of-the-art Class D amplifier that can power large or small speakers so you can enjoy superior audio in practically any room. Packing 125 watts per channel into 8O or 200 watts per channel into 4O, the Sonos Amp powers even the most demanding speakers. And because the Amp is 4O stable, you can even power up to four speakers instead of just two (or even six of the Sonos by Sonance speakers). Use the Amp to power your bookshelf, floor-standing, in-wall, and in-ceiling speakers. Thanks to its centralized heatsink, air inlets, and a discrete output stage, the Sonos Amp is built to stay cool and deliver lasting power.

  • The Sonos Amp can drive a pair of loudspeakers with a nominal impedance above 4O or two pair of 8O loudspeakers wired in parallel. Do not wire speakers in series to the integrated amplifier because it will result in poor sound quality. Do not connect speakers rated at less than 4O.
  • In particularly, you can power up to three pair of Sonos by Sonance speakers. The Sonos Amp does not support connection of three pair of loudspeakers from other brands.

Applications: The Sonos Amp offers flexibility and can be used in a variety of applications. Connect your favorite bookshelf, floorstanding, in-wall, or in-ceiling speakers to the Amp and stream all your favorite music.

  • Connect the Sonos Amp to a pair of loudspeakers for 2ch stereo to listen to network audio and a connected line-level source.
  • Use the Amp to add stereo sound to your TV through a HDMI ARC connection and a pair of loudspeakers.
  • Use the Sonos Amp with a pair of loudspeakers to add surround sound, if you already have a Sonos home theater speaker - such as the Playbar / Playbase / Beam, or another Amp) connected to your TV.
  • Create a multiroom audio system by connecting up two pair of 4O of loudspeakers or three pair of Sonos by Sonance speakers.

Optimized Sound: Sonos and Sonance have designed Sonos by Sonance in-ceiling, in-wall, and outdoor loudspeakers from the ground up, making them specifically optimized for the Sonos Amp through the use of TruePlay Tuning and the Sonos app on your compatible Apple iOS device.

  • Sonance By Sonance: When Sonos by Sonance speakers are connected to the Sonos Amp, the Amp will automatically detect them, and automatically adjust its sound to suit the specific loudspeakers. Up to three pairs of Sonos Architectural by Sonance speakers can be powered by a single Sonos Amp.
  • Trueplay Tuning (for Apple iOS Only): By connecting the in-ceiling speakers to the Sonos Amp, you'll unlock Trueplay Tuning (for Apple iOS), which accounts for the size, construction, and layout of the room where the speakers are installed and adjusts for the best possible sound. The layout of a room, and where speakers are installed, can have a significant impact on the sound that you hear. Trueplay, an auto-tune app within the Sonos App, uses the microphone in your Apple iOS 7.0+ device to measure how sound reflects off walls, furnishings and other surfaces in a room, and then fine tunes the in-ceiling speakers to make sure it sounds great no matter where you've placed it.

Note: The Sonos Amp will work with most loudspeakers. However, you will not be able to take advantage of the Trueplay room tuning capabilities with any other brand of loudspeaker, other than the Sonos by Sonance speakers.

HDMI ARC: The Sonos Amp is equipped one HDMI ARC output to connect the integrated amplifier to your TV's HDMI ARC input. The Amp's HDMI ARC output allows audio from your TV to be sent to the integrated amplifier. The HDMI ARC output supports Dolby Digital (up to 5.1ch) and 2ch PCM. Some televisions will only pass 2ch PCM through the ARC-enabled HDMI input from devices connected to the TV via HDMI or analog, and will only pass Dolby Digital via the TV's built-in tuner, network apps, or USB. Audio from your TV can be played back just on the Sonos Amp or in any zone of your Sonos multiroom audio system.

Note: If your TV does not have a HDMI ARC input, but does have an optical (toslink) digital output, an HDMI-to-optical digital adapter (sold separately) is available directly from Sonos. The HDMI-to-optical digital adapter features a female HDMI connector on one end to slip on to a HDMI cable's male connector and a male optical (toslink) connector on the other end to plug into your TV's optical digital output (you cannot use a dedicated optical digital cable with the Sonos Amp). This type of connection will still support 5.1ch Dolby Digital and 2ch PCM.

Analog Input: The Sonos Amp is equipped with a set of stereo analog RCA inputs for connecting an external line-level audio device, such as a CD or SACD player (sold separately). You can also connect a turntable which features a built-in phono-preamp or a turntable with an external phono-preamp (all sold separately). Audio from the external source can be played back just on the Sonos Amp or in any zone of your Sonos multiroom audio system.

Custom Speaker Outputs: A pair of binding-post terminals provide connection of your speaker wire (up to 10AWG). The binding-posts are removable and pull-out to expose speaker terminals that will accept banana plugs (single only). You can connect two 4O speakers, four 8O speakers, or even six of the Sonos by Sonance speakers.

Mono-Sub Out: The integrated amplifier features a mono-RCA output for connecting a powered subwoofer (sold separately) with an LFE or line-level input. The unit will detect when a cable is connected to the subwoofer output and adjust the low-pass crossover frequency automatically.

Front-Panel Controls: There are touch-sensitive controls across the front-panel of the Sonos Amp. These controls included Volume Up/Down, Play/Pause, and Previous/Next Track. There is also an IR (infrared) sensor on the front-panel that receives signals sent by a programmable IR remote control (not included and sold separately).

Mounting Options: You can place the Sonos Amp just about anywhere - in an electronics rack, on a shelf, on a credenza with your TV, or wall-mounted using a proprietary bracket (sold separately). On a shelf or table-top, mount the integrated amplifier horizontally with a least 3" of clearance around the unit. The Amp will also work perfectly in a rack-mount system. Two Amps will fit side by side in a 2U rack shelf, while four Amps will fit in a 3U rack shelf (side by side & stacked). Using a proprietary wall-mount bracket the Sonos Amp hangs vertically on the wall.

AC Power: The Sonos Amp comes with a detachable 6.5' AC power cord that will plug into the back of the integrated amplifier and into and AC power outlet or surge protector (sold separately).

Multiroom Audio

Sonos Multiroom Eco-System: The Amp is part of the Sonos wireless multiroom audio eco-system consisting of a family of wireless network speakers, players, and amplifiers. Start with a single Sonos product and add more Sonos products over time - including speakers, soundbars, players, and amplifiers (all sold separately - see Accessories Tab). With multiple zones, you can play the same or different songs in different rooms of your home. Up to 32 Sonos devices can be connected in one system.

Two Ways to Connect Wirelessly: Sonos brings great sounding music wirelessly to any room in your house, without a big wiring project through SonosNet or WiFi.

  • SonosNet Wireless Mesh Network: Sonos can utilize its own SonosNet proprietary wireless mesh network technology to provides superior wireless range for whole-house coverage, ensure synchronous music playback, and avoid sources of wireless interference. The transmitting range of the Sonos wireless system is approximately 100', depending upon your home's layout. In addition to the Sonos Amp, you will need a Sonos Boost (sold separately) connected to your network router/modem via a Ethernet cable.
  • WiFi Wireless Network: Sonos can also operate over your home's existing WiFi network (802.11 b/g/n; 2.4GHz). Because you are connecting wirelessly to your home's existing WiFi network, you do not need to hardwire a Sonos Boost to your router/modem. The Sonos system's wireless range will be dependent on your home's existing WiFi network.
Notes:
  • You cannot connect the Sonos system via both the SonosNet proprietary mesh network and WiFi; you will need to choose one. Sonos recommends using its proprietary SonosNet wireless mesh network over WiFi when applicable.
  • The Sonos proprietary mesh network will provide a more secure wireless connection with fewer interruptions for optimum performance.
  • WiFi is subject to greater interference from other WiFi and 2.4GHz devices on your network. WiFi connectivity is not compatible with 5GHz (you will have to use the Sonos wireless mesh network in this case).

Ethernet Port (10/100 Mbps): In addition to built-in WiFi, the Sonos Amp is equipped with two Ethernet ports (10/100 Mbps). Use it to wire directly to your router to operate Sonos if WiFi is unstable, or use the Ethernet port to provide Internet accessibility to non-wireless devices if you're using a SonosNET Boost setup. The second Ethernet port can be used to daisy-chain one Sonos Amp to another in a rack-mount system.

Sonos Controller App: Sonos allows you to control playback functions, search features, and multiroom audio distribution through the Sonos Controller app (for Apple iOS 11.0+ and Android OS 7.0+) or the Sonos Controller software (for Windows PC (7-up) and Mac OS X 10.10-up) - letting you control the entire Sonos eco-system from your compatible smartphone, tablet, laptop, or computer. The new navigation bar (My Sonos, Rooms, Browse, Search and More) at the bottom of the app makes finding what you're looking for effortless and moving between music quicker than ever.

  • My Sonos: Organize your music with the My Sonos tab. It's the simplest way to combine and access all the music you love. Bringing together in one simple screen all your favorite songs, playlists, albums, podcasts and radio stations from across your different music services.

You can choose to play audio in one room, play the same audio in grouped rooms, or play the same audio in every room. If you are an Apple Music subscriber, you can even play different music in different rooms (you can control and group directly from Apple's Music App and Home app on your Apple iOS device). You'll be able to ask Siri-enabled devices (like your Apple iPhone, iPad, or Watch) to control playback of your Apple Music content on the Sonos unit. You can even watch videos and movies from YouTube and Netflix on your compatible Apple iOS device or Mac computer with perfectly synced audio on the Sonos product.

  • Compatible AirPlay 2 Devices From Sonos: Sonos One (Gen 1/Gen 2), Play:5, Amp, Port, Playbase, and Beam all support AirPlay 2.
  • Non-Compatible AirPlay 2 Devices from Sonos: Even though the Sonos Play:1, Play:3, Playbar, Connect, Connect:Amp, and ZonePlayer are not AirPlay 2 compatible, you can still group these Sonos devices with an AirPlay 2 compatible Sonos product (listed above) to unlock AirPlay for your entire system.

Optional Voice Control: Through a free network software update you'll be able to control your Sonos system through any Alexa or Google Assistant enabled device (including the Sonos One, Amazon Echo, and Google Home - all sold separately). Specific control functions will vary by digital voice assistant.

  • Amazon Alexa: You can ask Alexa to play music on a specific Sonos device in an specific room of your home from these featured music services (Apple Music, Amazon Music, TuneIn, Pandora, iHeartRadio, SiriusXM, & Spotify). Using the Alexa app, you can group your Sonos products and your Alexa-enabled devices together. This makes it easier for Alexa to control your Sonos products based on which room or area they are in. You can pause, resume, and skip songs, as well as change the volume with all Sonos compatible online music services.
  • Google Assistant: You can ask Google to play music on a specific Sonos device in an specific room of your home from these featured music services (Google Play, Spotify, YouTube Music, Pandora, Deezer, Tidal, TuneIn, and iHeartRadio). You can pause, resume, and skip songs, as well as change the volume with all Sonos compatible online music services.
Notes:
  • You can only configure your Sonos system to work with one digital voice assisant; choose either Alexa or Google Assistant (you cannot use both). You will need to search and enable the Sonos skill from the Alexa or Google Home app on your mobile device or computer. Your Sonos equipment and Amazon Alexa-enabled devices must be on the same wireless network.
  • Sonos and Alexa or Google Assistant work together using a single Amazon or Google account. If you have a second Sonos system in another location, you'll need to use a second Amazon or Google account if you'd like to use Alexa. An Amazon or Google account can only be in use on one Sonos system at a time.
  • Click here for more information regarding Amazon Alexa on Sonos. Click here for more information regarding Google Assistant on Sonos.

Home Network Requirements: To access Internet music services, Internet radio, and any digital music stored on your computer or Network-Attached Storage (NAS) device, your home network must meet the following requirements:

  • High-speed DSL/Cable modem, or fiber-to-the-home broadband connection for proper playback of Internet-based music services. If your Internet service provider only offers Satellite Internet access, you may experience playback issues due to fluctuation in download rates.
  • If your modem is not a modem/router combination and you want to take advantage of Sonos' automatic online updates, or stream music from an Internet-based music service, you must install a wireless router in your home network. If you don't have a wireless router, you will need to purchase and install one before setting up your system.
  • The Sonos Controller app (for Apple iOS 11.0+ and Android OS 7.0+) is required for system setup. Initial setup is not possible through the Sonos Controller software (for Windows PC (7-up) and Mac OS X 10.10-up).
  • Connect at least one Sonos component to your home network router using an Ethernet cable, and then you can add other Sonos components wirelessly. Or setup your Sonos component wirelessly via WiFi without any hardwire connection.
  • For best results, you should connect the computer or NAS drive that contains your personal music library collection to your home network router using an Ethernet cable.
  • Make sure all of your Sonos components have the latest software update installed.
Note: Although Sonos is compatible with most networking equipment, some network devices are incompatible. Usually when networking hardware does not work with Sonos, it's because it lacks support for the network protocols that Sonos uses to operate, like UPnP, STP, and SMB/CIFS.

Automatic Updates: The Sonos Amp supports free automatic software updates so you will always have the newest features and music services to enjoy. Simply register the Amp and Sonos will automatically notify you when software updates are available through Sonos Controller app. By simply pressing one button your system updates itself.
