Music and more — anywhere you want it

Connect your disc player or turntable with a built-in phono preamp to the Amp to enjoy vinyl or CDs — not only on the connected speakers, but also throughout the house, wherever you have a Sonos player. The Amp's HDMI input means the same thing goes for your TV's audio.

Top of Sonos Amp with a circle-in-square design

Sonos wanted the Amp to be a visual representation of music, so its circle-in-a-square design is reminiscent of turntables, records, and CDs.

And like all Sonos products, the Amp works seamlessly with a host of streaming music services, including Pandora®, Spotify®, and TIDAL. You also have access to thousands of radio stations with TuneIn and iHeartRadio. And if you subscribe to SiriusXM, you can listen to all your favorite programming on any Sonos player in your system.

Compatible with AirPlay 2

The Sonos Amp has AirPlay® 2 built in. That means you can stream audio directly from your iPhone®, iPad®, or Mac® computer through your Sonos system.

And if you subscribe to Apple Music®, you can use Siri on your iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV 4K to control Apple Music with voice commands.

Easy app control

Download the free Sonos app to turn your mobile device into a convenient Sonos controller. Easily navigate and search through playlists and tracks stored on your computer, or select an internet radio station. Create customized playlists on the fly for individual rooms or for playback over your entire Sonos system. You can also mute or adjust the volume of each Amp.

Trueplay™ speaker tuning for optimal sound

These speakers are compatible with Sonos's Trueplay room correction feature. If you use your Sonos control app on an iPhone®, iPad®, or iPod® touch, you can use that same Apple device to fine-tune your system's sound. It plays tones through the connected speakers, and uses the mic built into your device to measure how the sound reflects off your walls and furnishings. It then adjusts the Sonos Amp's settings automatically for the best possible sound. (Currently for iOS® devices only.)

Outdoor Speakers

Sonos Architectural by Sonance: The all-new Sonos Architectural by Sonance is a collection of in-ceiling, in-wall, and outdoor passive speakers (all sold separately) designed and optimized for the Sonos Amp in partnership with Sonance. With a shared commitment to superior sound and great design, Sonos and Sonance partnered with the objective of producing loudspeakers that disappear into any space while providing clear sound, even coverage, high-quality performance, and ease of use.

Weatherproof Construction: The Sonos Outdoor by Sonance loudspeaker features a tough tough polypropylene enclosure and is rated for outdoor use. The outdoor speaker is engineered to withstand humidity, water, salt spray, heat, UV rays, and freezing temperatures. The enclosure can grille can be painted (make sure to use a weather-resistant outdoor paint and spray-gun).

Two-Way Driver Design: The Sonos Outdoor by Sonance speaker features a two-way driver design with a 1" fabric soft-dome tweeter and a 6.5" polypropylene cone woofer with rubber surround. The tweeter features an integrated wave-guide to help with high-frequency dispersion. The woofer provides dynamic, rich mid and low frequencies.

Note: These are wired passive outdoor loudspeakers and will require a separate amplifier and connection of speaker wire (they are not wireless or self-powered).

Optimized For The Sonos Amp: Sonos and Sonance have designed these outdoor loudspeakers from the ground up, making them specifically optimized for the included Sonos Amp. When the outdoor speakers are connected to the Sonos Amp, the amplifier will automatically detect them, and automatically adjust its sound to suit the specific loudspeakers. The easy-to-use Sonos S2 Controller App provides exclusive audio enhancements - including Custom EQ Settings, Gain Adjustment, Dynamic Bass Extension, and Signal Limiting/Loudspeaker Protection. Up to three pair of Sonos Architectural by Sonance speakers can be powered by a single Sonos Amp.

Note: The Sonos Outdoor by Sonance speakers do not support Trueplay Tuning.

Water Resistant Spring-Post Terminals: To increase water resistance and make installation easier, the outdoor loudspeaker's spring-post terminals are located on the front-panel of the speaker enclosure. Your speaker wire will feed through a rubber-grommet opening on the back of the speaker to the spring-post terminals on the front of the speaker cabinet. A plastic cover then snaps over top the speaker wire connections. The spring-post terminals will accommodate 18-14 gauge speaker wire.

  • use 18AWG speaker wire for runs up to 100'
  • use 16AWG speaker wire for runs up to 150'
  • use 14 AWG speaker wire for runs up to 250'

Note: Because of the position and angle of the spring-post terminals, you cannot use pin-connectors, spade-lugs, or banana plugs.

Mounting Options: The FastMount bracket system makes it easy to mount the speakers in a variety of positions and locations - flush against a wall, in a corner, under an eave or pole-mounted (pole and u-bolts not included). You can mount the speakers either horizontally or vertically without affecting the sound quality. For vertical orientation, please ensure that the tweeter is in the upright position with the "SONOS" logo toward the bottom. You can rotate the speaker in the bracket to direct the sound towards the listening area. The speaker offers a 180-degrees of rotation. In a vertical mounting position, you can swivel the speaker left or right. In a horizontal mounting position, you can tilt the speaker up or down.

Note: The speaker also features dual 1/4"-20 threaded inserts for using optional 3rd-party mounting brackets (sold separately).

Integrated Amplifier

125W x 2Ch Amplifier: The Sonos Amp features a built-in state-of-the-art Class D amplifier that can power large or small speakers so you can enjoy superior audio in practically any room. Packing 125 watts per channel into 8Ω or 200 watts per channel into 4Ω, the Sonos Amp powers even the most demanding speakers. And because the Amp is 4Ω stable, you can even power up to four speakers instead of just two (or even six of the Sonos by Sonance speakers). Use the Amp to power your bookshelf, floor-standing, in-wall, and in-ceiling speakers. Thanks to its centralized heatsink, air inlets, and a discrete output stage, the Sonos Amp is built to stay cool and deliver lasting power.

  • The Sonos Amp can drive a pair of loudspeakers with a nominal impedance above 4Ω or two pair of 8Ω loudspeakers wired in parallel. Do not wire speakers in series to the integrated amplifier because it will result in poor sound quality. Do not connect speakers rated at less than 4Ω.
  • In particularly, you can power up to three pair of Sonos by Sonance speakers (sold separately). The Sonos Amp does not support connection of three pair of loudspeakers from other brands.

Applications: The Sonos Amp offers flexibility and can be used in a variety of applications. Connect your favorite bookshelf, floorstanding, in-wall, or in-ceiling speakers to the Amp and stream all your favorite music.

  • Connect the Sonos Amp to a pair of loudspeakers for 2ch stereo to listen to network audio and a connected line-level source.
  • Use the Amp to add stereo sound to your TV through a HDMI ARC connection and a pair of loudspeakers.
  • Use the Sonos Amp with a pair of loudspeakers to add surround sound, if you already have a Sonos home theater speaker - such as the Playbar / Playbase / Beam, or another Amp) connected to your TV.
  • Create a multiroom audio system by connecting up two pair of 4Ω of loudspeakers or three pair of Sonos by Sonance speakers (all sold separately)

Optimized Sound: Sonos and Sonance have designed Sonos by Sonance in-ceiling, in-wall, and outdoor loudspeakers (all sold separately) from the ground up, making them specifically optimized for the Sonos Amp through the use of TruePlay Tuning and the Sonos app on your compatible Apple iOS device.

  • Sonance By Sonance: When Sonos by Sonance speakers are connected to the Sonos Amp, the Amp will automatically detect them, and automatically adjust its sound to suit the specific loudspeakers. Up to three pairs of Sonos Architectural by Sonance speakers can be powered by a single Sonos Amp.
  • Trueplay Tuning (for Apple iOS Only): By connecting the in-ceiling speakers to the Sonos Amp, you'll unlock Trueplay Tuning (for Apple iOS), which accounts for the size, construction, and layout of the room where the speakers are installed and adjusts for the best possible sound. The layout of a room, and where speakers are installed, can have a significant impact on the sound that you hear. Trueplay, an auto-tune app within the Sonos App, uses the microphone in your Apple iOS 7.0+ device to measure how sound reflects off walls, furnishings and other surfaces in a room, and then fine tunes the in-ceiling speakers to make sure it sounds great no matter where you've placed it.

Note: The Sonos Amp will work with most loudspeakers. However, you will not be able to take advantage of the Trueplay room tuning capabilities with any other brand of loudspeaker, other than the Sonos by Sonance speakers.

Sonos Wireless Multiroom Audio Eco-System: The Amp is part of the Sonos wireless multiroom audio eco-system consisting of a family of wireless network speakers, players, and amplifiers. Start with a single Sonos product and add more Sonos products over time. With multiple zones, you can play the same or different songs in different rooms of your home. Compatible distributed audio sources include internet radio, online music services, local network music libraries, as well as hardwired inputs. Up to 32 Sonos devices and 16 groups can be connected in one system. The Sonos Amp is compatible with the new Sonos S2 operating system (OS) and the older Sonos S1 operating system (OS).

  • Sonos S2 OS Compatible Products: The Sonos Five, ARC, Sub (Gen 3), and any Sonos products released after May 2020 will only be compatible with Sonos S2.
  • Sonos S2 and S1 OS Compatible Products: The Sonos Play:1, Play:3, Play:5 (Gen 2), Playbase, Playbar, Connect (Gen 2), Connect:Amp (Gen 2), One (Gen 1/2), One SL, Beam, Amp, Port, Boost, Move, and Sub (Gen 1/2) support both Sonos S2 and S1 operating systems.
  • Sonos S1 OS Compatible Products: The Sonos CR200 Controller, Zone Player, Bridge, Connect (Gen 1), Connect: Amp (Gen 1), and Play: 5 (Gen 1) will only support the older S1 operating system.

Notes:

  • If you have have both, older "legacy" Sonos products and newer Sonos products in your system, you have the option to create two separate eco-systems - one that will be controlled with the older Sonos S1 controller app and the other that will be controlled by the newer Sonos S2 controller app.
  • Click here for more information regarding Sonos "Legacy" S1 versus the new Sonos S2 Operating System and App.

Custom Speaker Outputs: A pair of binding-post terminals provide connection of your speaker wire (up to 10AWG). The binding-posts are removable and pull-out to expose speaker terminals that will accept banana plugs (single only). You can connect two 4Ω speakers, four 8Ω speakers, or even six of the Sonos by Sonance speakers.

Mono-Sub Out: The integrated amplifier features a mono-RCA output for connecting a powered subwoofer (sold separately) with an LFE or line-level input. The unit will detect when a cable is connected to the subwoofer output and adjust the low-pass crossover frequency automatically.

Mounting Options: You can place the Sonos Amp just about anywhere - in an electronics rack, on a shelf, on a credenza with your TV, or wall-mounted using a proprietary bracket (sold separately). On a shelf or table-top, mount the integrated amplifier horizontally with a least 3" of clearance around the unit. The Amp will also work perfectly in a rack-mount system. Two Amps will fit side by side in a 2U rack shelf, while four Amps will fit in a 3U rack shelf (side by side & stacked). Using a proprietary wall-mount bracket the Sonos Amp hangs vertically on the wall.

AC Power: The Sonos Amp comes with a detachable 6.5' AC power cord that will plug into the back of the integrated amplifier and into and AC power outlet or surge protector (sold separately).

Variety Of Sources

Two Ways to Connect Wirelessly: In order to enjoy internet radio, online music services, your local network music libraries and Apple AirPlay 2, you'll need to connect the Sonos Amp to your home's wireless network router and ISP (internet service provider). Sonos brings your great sounding music wirelessly to any room in your house, without a big wiring project through WiFi or its SonosNet mesh network.

  • WiFi Wireless Network: Sonos can also operate over your home's existing WiFi network (802.11 b/g; 2.4GHz). Because you are connecting wirelessly to your home's existing WiFi network, you do not need to hardwire a Sonos Boost to your router/modem. The Sonos system's wireless range will be dependent on your home's existing WiFi network. Sonos products manufactured after March 2014 are loaded with the proper firmware and ready to go out of the box for WiFi connectivity. All Sonos products manufactured prior to that date will require a wired connection to facilitate a firmware upgrade and  hereafter they will be able to work over WiFi.
  • SonosNet Wireless Mesh Network: Sonos can utilize its own SonosNet proprietary wireless mesh network technology to provides superior wireless range for whole-house coverage, ensure synchronous music playback, and avoid sources of wireless interference. The transmitting range of the Sonos wireless system is approximately 100', depending upon your home's layout. In addition to the Sonos Amp, you will need a Sonos Boost (sold separately) connected to your network router/modem via a Ethernet cable.
Notes:
  • You cannot connect the Sonos system via both the SonosNet proprietary mesh network and WiFi; you will need to choose one. Sonos recommends using its proprietary SonosNet wireless mesh network over WiFi when applicable.
  • The Sonos proprietary mesh network will provide a more secure wireless connection with fewer interruptions for optimum performance.
  • WiFi is subject to greater interference from other WiFi and 2.4GHz devices on your network.
  • WiFi connectivity is not compatible with 5GHz (you will have to use the Sonos wireless mesh network in this case).

Ethernet Port (10/100 Mbps): In addition to its built-in SonosNet Wireless Mesh Network and WiFi, the Sonos Amp is also equipped with one Ethernet port (10/100 Mbps). Use it to wire directly to your router to operate Sonos if WiFi is unstable, or use the Ethernet port to provide Internet accessibility to non-wireless devices if you're using a SonosNET Boost setup.

Audio from your TV can be played back just on the Sonos Amp or in any zone of your Sonos multiroom audio system.

There is also an IR (infrared) sensor on the front-panel that receives signals sent by a programmable IR remote control (not included and sold separately).

Automatic Updates: The Sonos Amp supports free automatic software updates so you will always have the newest features and music services to enjoy. Simply register the One and Sonos will automatically notify you when software updates are available through the Sonos Controller app. By simply pressing one button your system updates itself. The Sonos Amp must be connected to your home network and the internet for automatic software updates.

System Requirements

Internet Service Provider: You'll need a high-speed, wired internet service provider connection such as cable, fiber, or DSL. Wireless internet connections such as satellite, mobile hotspots, or 4G LTE routers can experience delays between the internet connection and Sonos and are not supported. Using these types of connections can cause music to not play, skip, or cut out completely.

Wireless Setup: Your network router must broadcast a 2.4GHz signal for Sonos products to connect to. If you have a dual band router (2.4GHz and 5GHz), do not disable the 2.4GHz signal. Wireless-N and Wireless-AC routers should work with Sonos as long as they are still broadcasting over B and G WiFi. Most Wireless-N and AC routers should do this unless manually configured not to.

  • The network must not contain enterprise access points that have been configured to require certificates or other forms of enterprise authentication. If you are using multiple access points, make sure they are all set to the same 2.4GHz wireless channel.
  • Networks using wireless range extenders are known to cause issues with Sonos systems that are configured in a wireless setup. If you need to extend your home WiFi to use Sonos in a wireless setup, we recommend using a WiFi mesh router to do so.
  • Sonos cannot connect to guest networks or networks that use a portal page to login.

Wired Setup Requirements: A Sonos system operating in a wired setup will require one of your Sonos products to remain connected to the router via Ethernet cable at all times. If your Sonos system is in a wired setup and you use a WiFi mesh router with multiple wireless nodes, we recommend wiring your Sonos product directly to the primary wired mesh node. Avoid wiring any Sonos products to the wireless mesh nodes. If you are on a corporate or advanced network, it must not block Spanning Tree Protocol (STP).

Note: Ethernet over Power devices (also known as HomePlugs or Powerline adaptors) are not supported by Sonos. While they may work for some systems, they tend to cause intermittent problems with Sonos. EoP adapters create an added delay between your network and Sonos. If the internet connection is too slow or the delay is too great, it can cause your music to skip or cut out completely or your players to drop off from the network.

Sonos S1 or S2 Controller App: Sonos offers a Sonos Controller app for Apple iOS 11.0+, Android OS 7.0+, Mac OSX 10.11+, and Windows 7+. The Sonos S2 is a new app and operating system (OS) that powers the next generation of products and experiences. In addition to new features, usability updates, and more personalization moving forward, Sonos S2 enables higher resolution audio technologies for music and home theater. Most Sonos products are compatible with S2. Some older Sonos "legacy" products will not support the advances of S2 due to their memory and processing power. The older Sonos "legacy" app is referred to as the Sonos S1 app.

  • Sonos Products That Support the Sonos S1 and S2 Controller App: Play:1, Play:3, Play:5 (Gen 2), Playbase, Playbar, Connect (Gen 2), Connect:Amp (Gen 2), One (Gen 1/2), One SL, Beam, Amp, Port, Boost, Move, Sub (Gen 1/2).
  • Sonos Products That Only Support The New S2 Contoller App: Five, ARC, Sub (Gen 3), and any Sonos products released after May 2020.
  • Sonos Products That Only Support The Old S1 Controller App: CR200 Controller, Zone Player, Bridge, Connect (Gen 1), Connect: Amp (Gen 1), Play: 5 (Gen 1).

Notes:

  • If you have have both, older "legacy" Sonos products and newer Sonos products, you have the option to create two separate eco-systems - one that will be controlled with the older Sonos S1 controller app and the other that will be controlled by the newer Sonos S2 controller app.
