About the Pro-Ject T1/Sonos Five Sound System

A record-playing system with a popular Sonos speaker
A record-playing system with a popular Sonos speaker
This bundle contains everything you need to start playing records quickly. It includes a solid Pro-Ject turntable and a robust Sonos speaker, plus the necessary cable that connects the two together. Not only can you play records through the included speaker, but you can integrate turntable playback into an existing Sonos network, so it can be heard in some or all of your other zones.
A solid, reliable turntable
The Pro-Ject T1 Phono SB is convenient and easy to operate. It's well-built, with a solid MDF base and a heavy glass platter that reduce unwanted vibrations. There's also a factory-installed Ortofon OM 5E moving magnet cartridge on the tonearm. And you can switch from 33-1/3 to 45 rpm electronically, without having to make manual belt adjustments.
Just switch the built-in phono preamp to "LINE" and use the included RCA-to-mini adapter to plug it into the back of the included self-powered speaker.
A robust Sonos speaker
The Five has been a star in the world of Sonos speakers for a good reason. It features three high-excursion woofers that deliver full sound with deep, clean bass. Three tweeters deliver clear highs. Its ability to play records in this system is just the beginning, though. Built-in Apple AirPlay® 2 lets you stream directly from an iPhone® or iPad® and ask Siri to play Apple Music. It also plays songs from subscription streaming services such as Spotify®, Amazon Music, TIDAL, and more. The Sonos app gives you plenty of setup and control options using your mobile device of choice.

Room-Filling Stereo Sound: The Sonos Five lets you experience vividly clear, room-filling sound from your favorite music streaming service and auxiliary source. It utilizes a multi-driver array configuration that consists of three tweeters and three woofers powered by 6 Class-D amplifiers to create a wide stereo soundstage that directs sound to the left, right, and center.
- Three Tweeters: Three tweeters, including one center tweeter and two precisely angled side tweeters, create a crisp high-frequency response. The two precisely angled side tweeters create spatial extension and rich stereo sound, while the center tweeter optimizes vocal playback.
- Three Woofers: The Five's three custom-designed, high-excursion woofers within an acoustic suspension (sealed) enclosure produces deep, accurate bass and eliminates reverb and echo. The three midwoofers ensure faithful playback of vocal frequencies in addition to rich bass without distortion, even at high volumes.
- 6 Class-D Amps: The Sonos Five utilizes six Class-D digital amplifiers perfectly tuned to the speaker's acoustic architecture for dynamic room-filling stereo sound with not distortion and any volume level.
Sonos Wireless Multiroom Audio Eco-System: The Five is part of the Sonos wireless multiroom audio eco-system consisting of a family of wireless network speakers, players, and amplifiers. Start with a single Sonos product and add more Sonos products over time. With multiple zones, you can play the same or different songs in different rooms of your home. Compatible distributed audio sources include internet radio, online music services, local network music libraries, as well as hardwired inputs. Up to 32 Sonos devices and 16 groups can be connected in one system. The Sonos Five is compatible with the new Sonos S2 operating system (OS) and does not support the older Sonos S1 operating system (OS).
- Sonos S2 OS Compatible Products: The Sonos Five, One SL, Roam, ARC, Beam (Gen 2), Sub (Gen 3), and any Sonos products released after May 2020 will only be compatible with Sonos S2.
- Sonos S2 and S1 OS Compatible Products: The Sonos Play:1, Play:3, Play:5 (Gen 2), Playbase, Playbar, Connect (Gen 2), Connect:Amp (Gen 2), One (Gen 1/2), Beam, Amp, Port, Boost, Move, and Sub (Gen 1/2) support both Sonos S2 and S1 operating systems.
- Sonos S1 OS Compatible Products: The Sonos CR200 Controller, Zone Player, Bridge, Connect (Gen 1), Connect: Amp (Gen 1), and Play: 5 (Gen 1) will only support the older S1 operating system.
Notes:
- If you have have both, older "legacy" Sonos products and newer Sonos products in your system, you have the option to create two separate eco-systems - one that will be controlled with the older Sonos S1 controller app and the other that will be controlled by the newer Sonos S2 controller app.
- Click here for more information regarding Sonos "Legacy" S1 versus the new Sonos S2 Operating System and App.
Trueplay Tuning: Trueplay software (for Apple iOS only) dynamically tunes the speaker to the unique acoustics of the room. Trueplay puts the speaker-tuning capability of the pros in the palm of your hands, customizing the sound of the speaker to the unique acoustics of the room. The layout of a room, and where a speaker is placed, can have a significant impact on the sound that you hear. Trueplay, an auto-tune app within the Sonos S2 App, uses the microphone in your Apple iOS device to measure how sound reflects off walls, furnishings and other surfaces in a room, and then fine tunes the Sonos Five speaker to make sure it sounds great no matter where you've placed it. The Sonos Five speaker already sounds fantastic, but Trueplay brings you even closer to how music should sound. Completing Trueplay tuning for a room takes approximately 3 minutes from start to finish.
- Apple iOS Compatible: In order to perform Trueplay tuning, the Sonos S2 app for iPhone, iPad or iPod touch running iOS 11.0 or higher is required. This includes iPhone 4s and higher, iPad 2 and higher, as well as iPod touch 5th generation and higher. Trueplay tuning is not available if the "VoiceOver" feature is enabled on your Apple iOS device. Trueplay is currently not compatible with Android.
- 1Ch/1.1ch & 2Ch/2.1Ch Tuning: Trueplay can be used with a single speaker setup, two speakers configured as a stereo pair, or either of these configurations with the Sonos Sub added.
Note: You will need to retune the Sonos Five speaker using TruePlay, if you move the speaker within the same room or to another room, change the orientation of speaker (horizontal vs. vertical), or change the configuration of the speaker setup (going from a single speaker to a stereo pair for example).
Equalizer: You can adjust the following equalization (EQ) settings from the Sonos S2 app - Bass, Treble, Balance, and Loudness. These EQ settings must be configured in the Sonos S2 app and are not available from the speaker's top-panel controls.
Wireless Stereo Pairing: You can wirelessly pair two Sonos Five speakers to create an even wider soundstage with even more detailed stereo separation. Each speaker will smartly adjust to mono and act as the Left or Right speaker in a wireless stereo setup.
Note: You can only stereo pair a Sonos Five with another Sonos Five. You cannot stereo pair a Sonos Five with a Sonos Play 5, Sonos Play 5 (Gen 2), or other Sonos speaker.
Wireless Surrounds: Two Sonos Five speakers can be wirelessly paired together to create wireless rear surrounds for your compatible Sonos soundbar speaker - including the ARC, Playbar, Playbase, Beam and Beam (Gen 2) - all sold separately. The compatible Sonos soundbar speaker must be utilizing the same Sonos S2 operating system and S2 controller app as the Sonos Five, because the Five does not support the older Sonos S1 ("legacy") OS and app.
Note: You'll need two Sonos Five speakers to create a wireless surround pair. You cannot mix and match a Sonos Five speaker with a Sonos Play 5, Sonos Play 5 (Gen 2), or other Sonos speaker to create wireless rear surrounds.
Optional Wireless Subwoofer: The optional Sonos Sub wireless powered subwoofer (sold separately) can be wirelessly paired with the Sonos Five to enhance your system's bass response. Add the Sonos Sub to a single Sonos Five, a pair of stereo Sonos Fives, or a set of Sonos Five wireless surrounds. The set-up procedure for the Sub adjusts the crossover automatically so it seamlessly integrates with the Sonos Five and the rest of your Sonos speakers. Through the Sonos S2 Controller app, you can also set the phase and level of the subwoofer to match it the rest of your Sonos speaker system.
Note: The Sonos Sub must be utilizing the same Sonos S2 operating system and S2 controller app as the Sonos Five, because the Five does not support the older Sonos S1 ("legacy") OS and app.
Mounting Options: The Sonos Five can be positioned horizontally or vertically on a tabletop, desktop, countertop, or other flat mounting surface. When positioned horizontally, the Five automatically separates the left and right channels for impressive stereo sound. The Sonos Five can also be wall-mounted using an optional Flexson Wall Bracket (sold separately).
- Horizontal Dimensions: 14.3125" (w) x 7.9375" (h) x 6.875" (d)
- Vertical Dimensions: 7.9375" (w) x 14.3125" (h) x 6.875" (d)
Humidity Resistant: The Sonos Five is humidity resistant and can be permanently installed safely in a bathroom. The Five can also be used outdoors temporarily on a porch or deck, as long as you have access to an AC power outlet and WiFi/Internet connection. However, the Sonos Five is not water or water resistant and should not be exposed to rain, water spray, or extreme temperatures. The Sonos Five should never be left outdoors when not in use.
Detachable AC Power Cord: The Sonos Five comes with a 6.5' AC power cord that plugs into the back of the speaker and into an AC wall outlet or surge protector (sold separately).
Note: The Sonos Five speaker is not battery powered.
Variety Of Music Sources
Two Ways to Connect Wirelessly: In order to enjoy internet radio, online music services, your local network music libraries and Apple AirPlay 2, you'll need to connect the Sonos Five speaker to your home's wireless network router and ISP (internet service provider). Sonos brings your great sounding music wirelessly to any room in your house, without a big wiring project through WiFi or its SonosNet mesh network.
- WiFi Wireless Network: Sonos can also operate over your home's existing WiFi network (802.11 b/g/n/ac; 2.4/5GHz). Because you are connecting wirelessly to your home's existing WiFi network, you do not need to hardwire a Sonos Boost to your router/modem. The Sonos system's wireless range will be dependent on your home's existing WiFi network. Sonos products manufactured after March 2014 are loaded with the proper firmware and ready to go out of the box for WiFi connectivity. All Sonos products manufactured prior to that date will require a wired connection to facilitate a firmware upgrade and hereafter they will be able to work over WiFi.
- SonosNet Wireless Mesh Network: Sonos can utilize its own SonosNet proprietary wireless mesh network technology to provides superior wireless range for whole-house coverage, ensure synchronous music playback, and avoid sources of wireless interference. The transmitting range of the Sonos wireless system is approximately 100', depending upon your home's layout. In addition to the Sonos Five, you will need a Sonos Boost (sold separately) connected to your network router/modem via a Ethernet cable.
Notes:
- You cannot connect the Sonos system via both the SonosNet proprietary mesh network and WiFi; you will need to choose one. Sonos recommends using its proprietary SonosNet wireless mesh network over WiFi when applicable.
- The Sonos proprietary mesh network will provide a more secure wireless connection with fewer interruptions for optimum performance.
- WiFi is subject to greater interference from other WiFi and 2.4GHz or 5GHz devices on your network.
Ethernet Port (10/100 Mbps): In addition to its built-in SonosNet Wireless Mesh Network and WiFi, the Sonos Five is also equipped with one Ethernet port (10/100 Mbps). Use it to wire directly to your router to operate Sonos if WiFi is unstable, or use the Ethernet port to provide Internet accessibility to non-wireless devices if you're using a SonosNET Boost setup.

Pro-Ject Turntable with Ortofon OM5e Cartridge: The Pro-Ject T1 Phono SB features a built-in phono preamp that allows you to connect the turntable to the Sonos Five's Aux input (make sure the built-in phono pream is turned on). The Pro-Ject T1 Phono SB comes supplied with an Ortofon OM5e Moving Magnet cartridge, featuring an elliptical diamond stylus tip for true high-fidelity playback from your vinyl record collection. The Pro-Ject T1 Phono SB comes with a hinged, clear plastic dust cover and a felt mat to protect the turntable and your records.
- Low-Noise Design: For the drive system, where many turntables may use un-regulated DC motors with wide speed fluctuations, the T1 Phono SB features Pro-Ject's proven system of an electronically regulated, precision-speed AC motor. The T1 Phono SB also comes with electronic speed switching between 33 and 45 RPM. The result is a low-noise, stable drive system for the turntable. The precision-speed AC motor drives a belt-system, attached to a newly designed sub-platter, which is mounted into an ultra-precise 0.001mm main bearing with a hardened steel axle and brass bushing. Alongside this chosen motor system, the T1 Phono SB is able to ensure a smooth, anti-resonant rotational platform for the tonearm and cartridge to ride across.
- One-Piece Tonearm: The tonearm on the T1 Phono SB is a new model, based on previous Pro-Ject designs. With its straight, 8.6" effective length and stiff aluminum construction, this one-piece tonearm also features low-friction bearings for absolute accuracy in use. Besides the clean and stylish looks, the integrated headshell won't cause any additional vibrations either, and is a big improvement over many other detachable, screwed-on or glued-on headshells.
- Zero-Resonance Construction: The stylish CNC-machined plinth features no plastic parts and is carefully manufactured to ensure there are no hollow spaces inside, therefore avoiding unwanted vibrations within the chassis. Carrying this philosophy through the design, the included 8mm glass platter is also a heavy, zero-resonance design (avoiding the flaws of plastic or lightweight steel alternatives). Finally, the purpose-chosen turntable feet also do a good job of isolating the T1 from ambient vibrations around your hi-fi system.
- Stereo RCA Outputs: The Pro-Ject Debut Carbon Evo is outfitted with a set of stereo RCA outputs and comes with a high-quality stereo RCA cable. Pro-Ject's Connect-it-E cable is a semi-balanced, low-capacitance cable, with superior shielding. However, the Sonos Five features a 3.5mm Aux input so you'll need a stereo RCA-to-minijack cable (sold separately).
Note: The turntable's audio can be played back on just the Sonos Five or throughout your Sonos multiroom audio system.
Intuitive Control

Sonos S2 App: Sonos S2 is a new app(for Apple iOS 14.0+ / Android OS 8.0+ / Fire OS 7.0+ / Mac OSX 10.11+ / Windows 8+) that powers the next generation of Sonos products. - Security: Enhanced protocols, including support for elliptic curve cipher suites in SSL/TLS, keep your system safer and your data more secure.
Notes:
- The Sonos Five is not compatible with the older Sonos S1 Controller app and requires the new Sonos S2 Controller app.
- Some older Sonos products ("legacy" products) will not support the advances of the S2 app due to their memory and processing power. If you own any of these products, you can continue to use your system as you do today. See System Requirements for more details.

- Total Privacy: Designed with privacy at its core, Sonos Voice Control processes requests entirely on the device. No audio or transcript is sent to the cloud, stored, listened to, or read by other parties.
Notes:
- The Sonos Five is not equipped with it own built-in microphone and requires a separate voice-capable Sonos speaker (like the Sonos One; sold separately) in order use Sonos Voice Control.
- Click here for a more comprehensive list of Sonos Voice controls.
- Make sure your Sonos device has the latest firmware/software update installed.

- You can only configure your Sonos system to work with one digital voice assistant; choose either Alexa or Google Assistant (you cannot use both). You will need to search and enable the Sonos skill from the Alexa or Google Home app on your mobile device or computer. Your Sonos equipment and Amazon Alexa-enabled devices must be on the same wireless network.
- Sonos and Alexa or Google Assistant work together using a single Amazon or Google account. If you have a second Sonos system in another location, you'll need to use a second Amazon or Google account if you'd like to use Alexa. An Amazon or Google account can only be in use on one Sonos system at a time.
Capacitive Top-Panel Controls: There are capacitive touch controls on the Sonos Five speaker that control basic playback functions - such as Play/Pause, Volume Up/Down, and Previous/Next Track.

System Requirements
Internet Service Provider: You'll need a high-speed, wired internet service provider connection such as cable, fiber, or DSL. Wireless internet connections such as satellite, mobile hotspots, or 4G LTE routers can experience delays between the internet connection and Sonos and are not supported. Using these types of connections can cause music to not play, skip, or cut out completely.
Wireless Setup: All Sonos products support 2.4GHz WiFi (802.11 b/g) and Open, WEP, and WPA/WPA2 Personal WiFi security standards. Some newer Sonos products support dual-band 2.4/5GHz WiFi (802.11 b/g/n/ac) and WPA3.
- The network must not contain enterprise access points that have been configured to require certificates or other forms of enterprise authentication. If you are using multiple access points, make sure they are all set to the same 2.4GHz or 5GHz wireless channel.
- Networks using wireless range extenders are known to cause issues with Sonos systems that are configured in a wireless setup. If you need to extend your home WiFi to use Sonos in a wireless setup, we recommend using a WiFi mesh router to do so.
- Sonos cannot connect to guest networks or networks that use a Port page to login.
Wired Setup Requirements: A Sonos system operating in a wired setup will require one of your Sonos products to remain connected to the router via Ethernet cable at all times. If your Sonos system is in a wired setup and you use a WiFi mesh router with multiple wireless nodes, we recommend wiring your Sonos product directly to the primary wired mesh node. Avoid wiring any Sonos products to the wireless mesh nodes. If you are on a corporate or advanced network, it must not block Spanning Tree Protocol (STP).
Note: Ethernet over Power devices (also known as HomePlugs or Powerline adaptors) are not supported by Sonos. While they may work for some systems, they tend to cause intermittent problems with Sonos. EoP adapters create an added delay between your network and Sonos. If the internet connection is too slow or the delay is too great, it can cause your music to skip or cut out completely or your players to drop off from the network.
