Highly versatile, mediocre sound

Steve from Seneca, SC on 1/24/2022

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I bought these speakers for my porch with a planned use of 75% music, 25% TV sound. The speakers have optical, analog, usb, and bluetooth inputs, a built-in amp, remote control, and subwoofer output, making them useful in a lot of setups. They have a nice look and a small footprint. The audio was a step-up from the built-in audio on my old Vizio TV, but for music they sound muddy and lack any treble definition. I tried the speakers in different positions and even used them with a sub. The electronics worked impressively in my tests and I found the design to be thoughtful. For example, the LED glows different colors as inputs are switched, and the LED can be easily enabled/disabled. I could not judge the quality of the DAC and I'm not sure it matters much given the speaker quality. I purchased from Crutchfield's outlet and they arrived in perfect shape.

Nice sounding bluetooth.

Leland from Sioux City, IA on 1/15/2022

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

These are nice looking and the sound is decent. The reason for the four stars is this. These are nice and loud with good fidelity when used with bluetooth. When I hook up my turntable to these with my phono stage they are extremely more quiet than with bluetooth. I have to turn these up all the way to get some decent volume. I don't know if these need a break-in period or if my phono stage output is lower I don't know. I'm still pleased with these and unless something drastic happens I'll be keeping them.

Pros: Nice looking good sound.

Cons: Aux input with phono stage is lower in volume than the bluetooth volume.

Good, but lacking in bass

Derek from Richland, WA on 1/14/2022

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I bought these as a new set of computer speakers. I had a very old and cheap 2.1 system before and I am used to having a subwoofer. I have a lot of music with significant bass, and using these without a subwoofer was disappointing. The lack of bass makes the overall sound feel very unbalanced. In the mids and highs they are very good though, and for most spoken word content they are excellent. I have a medium size home office and these can get loud, not quite loud enough when I really want to fill the room and jam, but they're only 50 watts. The remote is an excellent feature even just a couple of feet away on a desk, and the bright status LED can be turned off, which was very important for me to minimize distractions. The binding posts between speakers are not banana-plug compatible, which may be a slight annoyance for some, but I don't expect to be moving these very often. Overall a good set as long as expectations are managed. I plan to keep these for their other benefits but I'll be buying a sub in the near future.

Pros: Multiple input options. Remote control. Can turn off LED. Compact. Subwoofer output. Good build quality. Good sound quality in the mid and high ranges.

Cons: Very lacking in bass. They need a subwoofer. Not quite enough power for a medium room.

Amazing imaging! I have the Jamo S 801 PM in a desk setup and cannot be happier with these. Being a music teacher I really appreciate how clean these speakers sound and the detail you get from them. Even without a sub there is more than enough low punch to enjoy music. While not flat, the S 801 PM sounds like it has a more of a slight "U" shaped sound. While I appreciate really detailed highs, this can be brought down with digital or analog EQ. I was intially a little skeptical given these have a 4" woofer compared to a 5" but no complaints here! I really like how Jamo thought of the various inputs (analog RCA, optical, USB) with the S 801 PM even though I will be pairing this with a seperate dac. Not sure how long this sale will last, for the price these are an absolute must! Huge plus for Crutchfield! One of the few vendors I know of that offer free shipping to Hawaii! Will most definetly buy more from Crutchfield as well as more Jamo speakers, very impressed!

Pros: Sound Imaging Upper range clarity Size (great for a desk setup) Magnetic Grills Included remote (no fussing with the back for controls) Price

Cons: For some, treble range may be too much Would have liked a better speaker wire included, but at this price can?t really complain.

These are active speakers so the sound is robust. Keeping in mind the cost one doesn't expect super high end quality. The reason I gave these S 801's five stars is due to what I ordered. I ordered "scratched and dent" quality speakers and I cannot find a physical flaw on these! The reason I ordered "scratched and dented" speakers is that I am placing them inside an old RCA 1947 radio/record player. Couldn't be happier.

Good value for the price. They are an upgrade over TV speakers. Set-up was easy and they work well with either the Bluetooth, optical or USB connection. The only downside is the remote. I have trouble getting the speakers to turn on with the remote (even when standing right in front of the speaker), but they work fine once they are on.

Pros: Easy setup, nice sound, good value

Cons: The remote doesn't work well.

Not The Life Of The Party

Crutchfield customer from Bremen, GA on 12/26/2021

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

If I had paid any more than the sale price they would've already been returned. Sound is subjective, source and environment play huge roles. My source material are higher resolution flac files. I have these in my basement workshop. With a lot of hard surfaces I was expecting a livelier sound, but lively they ain't. I rotated dacs and settled on an older Schiit model that tends to run on the bright side. For the cost I wasn't expecting audiophile quality, still the upper range is weak. Maybe simply overridden by the mid bass? These will work for background music in my small workshop, but I wouldn't recommend them in heavily draped, carpeted sound absorbing rooms. I too am disappointed that the remote is required to select source/input. Bottom line, they're adequate.

Pros: compact, perfect size for table top.

Cons: Their sound matches the front covers, kinda dull grey.

I bought these to set up a quick and easy music system in the rec room. My goal was to find a way to both stream music from an Android-based phone and connect a 25 year old Technics multi-CD player to access our music collection. Set up was extremely simple - plugged in the speakers, connected them via the provided speaker wire, connected the CD player using an old RCA cable and then paired the speakers to the phone via Bluetooth. The audio sounds great and it's easy to switch between the CD input and the Bluetooth input. Just what I was looking for.

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I picked these up on sale and I am very happy with them. I hesitate to discuss their sound because that is a personal preference and to be fair you have to consider the source material. So far most of my listening has been to moderate bit rate MP3s on a laptop (USB connection) and Bluetooth from my phone, neither is a high quality source. Having said that, I am more than happy with the sound and someday I will connect them to a high quality source and see what they can do.

Pros: Multiple connectivity options Good sound for their size

Cons: Remote signal could be stronger to work better at a distance

Bought these to make a turntable set up so my wife could listen to her favorite band on vinyl. Set up was quick and easy (took longer to clear the shelves than it took to get up and running) and the sound is great. I have a 3.1 system for my TV with a set of Jamo towers, and like the sound. Decent, with excessive bass

Travis from San Francisco, CA on 12/3/2021

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Overall, decent speakers for their price. As is the case with most stereo equipment in this price range these days, the bass is boosted WAAAAYYYY beyond natural levels. In this case these speakers only respond down to ~75Hz, so I'm referring to mid-bass. But the sound profile coming out of the speakers is absolutely nowhere near neutral. That having been said, they work well for $150. The mids and treble are decent. Construction quality is decent. They look nice on my bookshelf and they sound good enough for casual background listening.

Pros: Decent construction quality Decent mids and treble

Cons: Dramatically boosted mid-bass, which makes everything sound too boomy, which I suppose is what most people who buy $150 speakers want these days. Would be nice if there were options to tune that down.

Very good speakers. Went back and forth between four or five stars. For value, probably five stars but a strong four on quality alone, ideally 4.5. Very easy to set up, was surprised by how good they sounded. I haven't heard any other computer speakers that could be considered competitors, so no ability to say better or worse than. I haven't bothered with bluetooth yet, but I like that they are wired (USB to computer). I still have a stereo that I use frequently, but I certainly recommend these to anyone looking to listen to music via their computer. Especially for casual listening while working these are great.

Pros: Very good sound at a very good price.

Cons: None that I have experienced.

My only complaint is that there is no included easy mounting option so had to get creative when mounting on stands. Solid sound quality, bluetooth setup works well, though it is hard to see the on/off light if you have the covers on over the speakers. All in all, highly recommend if your looking for an easy way to get better sound without breaking the bank.

First one I received was open-box and everything worked except the bluetooth connection. Just couldn't get it to pair even with the help of J T at tech support. He offered to send another - factory sealed - at the same cost, and it has worked perfectly. As for the sound, it does have that 'smile' frequency response. Great on the high and low ends, but a little thin in the midrange. Not terrible tho. Will more than likely get the sub so I'll see if that helps. Am not experiencing the trouble with the remote range or angle that some have posted. Four stars simply because the first unit did not function and I'll have to see how this pair holds up. Recommended if you need something for a spare bedroom, garage, or even a patio where I'm using mine. And a shout out to J T and Crutchfield's customer support.

Pros: Lots of inputs Better than expected build quality. Really good value.

Cons: At this price, none if they function.

Did not do it for me

Andrea from Columbus, OH on 9/22/2021

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Subpar electronics from the point of view of sound quality: the USB input sounds thin and metallic, with recessed midrange, a clear sign of inexpensive low quality DAC. Same for the Bluetooth ( unsurprisingly.) Aux input driven by an external DAC sounds smoother, but there is no depth to the sound. Mid-bass range sounds muddy and confused. Little dynamics, which is somewhat to be expected given the size, but likely also to be from a cheap class-D amp. I cannot justify spending this much on this unit (not to mention the original price) or waiting for the loudspeakers to break in. Took a shot, did not work out. I guess it may by ok for the causal listener, not so much for a trained ear.

Pros: Relatively inexpensive, may be good for causal use or listener.

Cons: You get what you pay for: thin sound, no dynamic range, subpar internal DAC.

Absolutely amazed with these little speakers. I set them up on my computer desk to play the music stored on the computer . They have plenty of volume and are clean and crisp sounding. Paired with the matching sub woofer, set the crossover to 85 Hz and I am very happy. The styling is also very clean and modern.

Out of the box, plugged in and connected. All works well, they look and sound very good for a speaker this size. You could buy a small, plastic Bluetooth speaker for more money and not have good stereo separation. I'll be buying a small sub to get some low end.

Mixed Bag

Crutchfield customer from Portland, OR on 9/16/2021

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

First the fit and finish: Left bezel around the midrange/woofer is a tight and seamless fit however the right speaker shows a gap between the bezel and the speaker cabinet. Second: the wire supplied to connect the 2 speakers is way thinner than lamp cord wire, and way short. Third: the biggest problem is the voicing of these bass reflex speakers which is too heavy on the bass and that colors the midrange. I produce a radio show and this speaker makes my voice more of a baritone which is not what I am. However this is easily tamed by plugging the port in the rear of each speaker with a (dry) dish sponge. On the plus side the price was right and the connectivity options make this very versatile. I prefer the optical digital input. With the ports plugged it is great for casual but not critical listening. But casual listening is actually my the intended use. This is in reference to my studio NHT M00 amplified speakers which have not been in production for years but are my go to reference for production and critical listening.

Great value for the sale price. Input options on self powered speakers is great. Used as a set with the matching S808 sub-woofer they are outstanding. Perfect as desktop speakers for a home office to reduce reliance upon headphones/earbuds.

Pros: - input options - ease of use - quality of construction - mid range sound quality

Cons: - Highs could be a touch more clear; this could also be my own issue with eq limitations - unsure if full priced, I would be as impressed

Purchased for my wife to use in her sewing room. On sale, I don't think these could be topped. The sound way better than a smaller single speaker unit, and can fill the room with sound. They sit on a bookshelf up out of the way and look nice. My only issues are the power cord is relatively short and the included speaker wire looked to be 18ga. I used some leftover I had from a home theatre project and a few banana clips I had left over instead.

Pros: Decent sound for the price Easy to set up/pair to bluetooth

Cons: Short power cord Very small gauge speaker wire included

The sound is amazing. You can really pick up on the nuances of each tune, especially streaming the new loseless format from Apple. Only thing that would make these better as desktop/computer speakers would be for the size to shrink about 30%.

For the price, you can't get a better pair of powered bookshelf speakers. These replaced a pair of Bose Companion 20. They have a bigger footprint, but the detail (with the grill removed) and over all sound is better. Definitely recommend them for someone looking for a quick fix for a small room

Detailed sound at an incredible price

Andrew from Ventura, CA on 9/1/2021

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I've only had for about 1 week, but I like these better than my ELAC Debut F5s with a 100W/Ch AMP. I had to downsize for space & volume reasons (read:Wife), and I am very happy with the sound. I am not 'allowed' to blast my music anyway, so the ELAC floor speakers were overkill. I'm no expect here, but I tried the Klipsch R-41PM and I found them too 'punchy' for me. Klipsch owns Jamo now too, but I would get these 801PM for a fraction of the price. I got the 801PM and 808 sub for just over $300 from Crutchfield...can't beat that. The detail is crisp and I paired it with the Jamo S 808 Sub....A sub is a must with these IMO. I don't really like have a separate sub for music as it seems to always need artificial 'tweaking' of freq-cutoffs and independent volume for different music formats....but it's livable for the space savings and I think I'll have it dialed in soon (or get tired of fussing). I had some issue with the sub not being auto-turned on when playing some records with limited bass (Sinatra). The sub turned on for 'modern' music and formats and the bass is otherwise tight and clean for rock and movies. The sound stage is perfect when you are at the sweetspot. These are not good in a big room and are fatiguing to hear at loud volumes, but perfect for close up near field.

Pros: Great soundstage Good detail Look nice and have color options affordable

Cons: No ground lug for phono pre amp Requires a Sub (S808 or similar)

David from Camden, ME on 8/29/2021

I wanted to improve on the sound available from my desktop, TV and iPhone. I chose this set because of the reduced price, figuring a pair of speakers selling normal for $300 would be pretty good, and because they seem to offer the next step up. I really like that they offer a variety of connecting options because I wasn't sure how/where I would use/connect them. At first I was disappointed in the sound, having become accustomed to the "larger" boom-boxy sound of small portable single cube-style speakers. But I quickly came to appreciate the clarity & finesse of the Jamos and learned that where they are put makes a big difference. In fact, I think correct placement is crucial to getting the most satisfying separation and "around-surround" feeling. I ended up placing them at full distance (about 6 feet) from one another, just behind my couch on a bookcase, and turning them so that they face in opposite directions. They are about ear level; I sit in the middle of the couch. They sound best at middle volume, but soft and loud are good too, and at top volume the sound fills the room, like a studio -- 14 ft square; book cases all around; tile floor; area rug; not a high ceiling. Lots of different kinds of music all sound good. I can use them from desktop, iPhone, and TV -- all via Bluetooth; it isn't hard to switch from one source to another. They don't need it, but I am now getting the sub-woofer to spoil myself. What was just my library is now also my music room. Very pleased.

Pros: Small in size. Bluetooth works well; can be used with many different sources. Can also connect other sources (turntable, CD player) directly. Very good stereo-like sound for the size and money. Can be upgraded by adding sub-woofer, although they are perfectly adequate without.

Cons: Cannot be used with wired earphones that use standard connections.

Works great. Somewhat flabby in the bass department, and flat sounding mids. But also, I can forgive that -- these are small, inexpensive, speakers. Excellent quality, extremely good value. Bought these for my girlfriend since she now gets to work from home a couple days a week, she loves listening to music while working, mainly steaming from Sirius Xm but also BT from her phone. I also bought the matching 808 Sub and the combination is excellent. The system has been in service for about a week so not even broken in yet but the sound is even better than I hoped for. Read lots of glowing reviews and totally agree with the vast majority that the sound is excellent. Highs and mid's are clear and accurate, the bass without the sub is good but with the sub, it borders perfection in our 10'x11' room. Esthetically these are attractive and look far more expensive than they are. A brief test at far higher volume than you would normally listen to showed no distortion or coloration so they can definitely rock out but normal levels is where these really shine. I have decades of high end audio experience and am truly impressed. Adding the sub creates a 2.1 system that has to be one the the best audio bargains that I have ever experienced

Pros: Excellent sound. Absolute bargain. Great connection options. Good remote with the ability to control the subwoofer. Supplied cables.

Cons: The supplied cables are adequate but a little short depending on your setup. Upgraded cables are easy to find for reasonable prices.

Overall, we are very satisfied with the performance of the Jamo S 801 PM system. The speakers sound fairly clean and are a huge upgrade from our T.V.'s internal speaker system. We have the speakers sitting directly on a bookshelf with an optical cable running from the speakers to the T.V. The speakers fill the our 22' by 18' room with sound nicely. Our application of the device is for casual music listening and movies. As others have noted, the speakers are not large, so if you're looking for a deep, low bass attack, you'll best served to add a subwoofer to the mix. For most casual listeners of pretty much anything other than electronic or rap music, these will serve you well. A few negatives: 1) The supplied speaker cable came in two small pieces that needed to be attached prior to speaker hook-up. 2) The supplied power adapter was bent completely so that instead of running perpendicular with the plug's base, the plug ends run parallel to the base. 3) The speakers do not support record player/turntable audio input without a preamp.

Pros: Great sound, multiple inputs, sub-out, very nice to look at

Cons: Bent power plug, supplied speaker cable in pieces, does not support phono input without a preamp.

A Real "Steal" At This Price W/Out Sacrificing Sound

Crutchfield customer from Houston, TX on 6/2/2021

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I decided to upgrade my computer speakers from the Bose Companion 3 Multimedia Speaker System which had served me well for over 15 years but were beginning to sound a little obsolete with high resolution music & movie streaming. After much research and reading reviews, I found these on Crutchfield marked down and "pounced". By themselves they sound good and definitely better than the Bose, but were lacking the low end impact that I like in my music and movies when streaming on my computer. It must've been my day because I also found the Jamo C-910 marked down from and "pounced" on it too...lol The left speaker has a built in 50 watt amp, dac converter, usb audio (A) input (basically a printer cable), rca input jacks, volume knob, speaker output jacks for the non powered right speaker input jacks, optical connecter, and a dedicated sub out jack. I decided to use the speakers' dac instead of my computers after doing sound comparisons and setup was simple. After a few days of breaking them in, along with the C-910 sub, this system rocks and thumps in a way that the Bose could only dream of ! And when you add in the almost $300 in savings and discounts from Crutchfield, I almost feel like I stole them ! I'm subtracting a star because the powered speaker, at times, has an annoying static that can draw my attention from what I'm listening to. I think it may be some of the source material I'm listening to but I will continue to monitor this.

Pros: build, sound, size, multiple connection options (including a dedicated sub output, price.

Cons: no 3.5 mm jack, low end is good for a speaker this size but if you want to bring them to their maximum potential, I would highly recommend a subwoofer.

These speakers lived up to the hype I had generated for myself when deciding to purchase them. First, I got them at a great price. Second, they look even better in person than in the pictures. Third, they sould great!! I have my turntable and a CD player hooked up to them and I really do like the sound. The highs are crisp and the mid bass is very solid. I have a Yamaha subwoofer from an old home theater system that completely rounded out the set up. This is perfect for a smaller to mid size room. My son has the Klipsch R41PM powered speakers and I would say they are better sonically than the Jamo, but for the money I paid for the Jamo set, they are a better value. And, I didn't know this, but Klipsch owns Jamo. I would buy these again for another room if I needed another set of powered speakers.

Pros: Great looking Great sounding Easy setup

Cons: A little underpowered at 24 Watts per channel

Speakers are good for the price and paired well with the jamo s808 subwoofer. These little speakers rock! I got them to be able to have more sound than a little portable Bluetooth speaker could provide but I have been super impressed with how much sound they put out. I did pair them with an 8" powered Energy sub I wasn't using which really made everything sound great and filled our large, vaulted-ceiling bedroom. I really like these speakers. They look good and are particularly nice and detailed in the mids and high end. The lows feel a bit more rolled off than I expected, but you could always add a sub if it bothers you and this is pretty expected for a small speaker. I removed a star because I got these speakers on significant sale and I'm not sure if they're a great deal at MSRP.

Purchased the S801pm for the bedroom TV instead of a soundbar. Quick review: highly recommend, easy setup, great sound for price (on sale) and size, great looking, but with a less than impressive remote. Way better than any soundbar in this price range, and visually more pleasing. Cables included were: speaker wire, power, and usb connection for audio. It did not come with RCA, 3.5mm to RCA, optical cable, or anything you may need for a subwoofer. The speaker wire isn't pure copper. This isn't an issue for most users, but I opted for some 14awg pure copper cables with better insulation. Speaker wire connections will support bare wire and spades the best. Like other reviewers have stated, the remote is not the best. Response time lags sometimes up to a 30 seconds, and range is not very far. I did notice faster response times when the LED indicator was on. I highly recommend syncing the provided remote to a universal IR remote (Logitech Harmony) or similar for better performance. Sound from these is fantastic for their size. More than enough clarity to keep the casual listener and entry-level audiophile pleased. The Crutchfield review highlights the strengths well. I did not do any critical listening, but it handled samples of punk, jazz, pop, electro, classic rock, and classical with ease. Call them a gateway to the world of HiFi as the next step is a dedicated 2.0 setup.

Pros: Easy setup, great sound for price and size, great looking

Cons: Intermittent remote functionality and no RCA cable

These speakers have great sound for a small package and the are very attractive. I am using these without a sub woofer so the bass isn't punchy but is very adequate for the room I am using them in. I love the many inputs provided, I am using the optical in for my Television sound and blue tooth for music play. Just Awesome!

Pros: Multiple inputs, easy Bluetooth pairing, attractive

Cons: A bit large for desktop use

First off, these look fantastic. I got the white and they look great. Sound is okay, but where I found these to be absolutely amazing is in the auto-off and un-advertised auto-on feature! I am using these in a 5.1.2 system, and I could not run cable to the rears. So these became the rears, coupled with an SVS Soundpath wireless. And I would be happy if I needed to manually turn these off and on but I don't have to! These power right up when they receive a signal (over the RCA at least), and off after 15 minutes of inactivity. So I am actually really thrilled with these little beauties. I have Jamo S 809 towers in the front, with the Atmos modules, an S 81 Center, and these (plus an SVS sub). I can't believe the outstanding value these speakers (and the whole set really) provide. A++++ for the un-advertised auto-power on feature!

Pros: Auto-power on over RCA

Cons: At this price, none

Great Clarity and Bluetooth

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Great clarity. Used in the bedroom at a low level to listen to TV late and not disturb others in the house. A little large for the nightstands but, oh well. My LG TV with Web OS found them immediately and paired, no sweat. (That LG TV needs a method to sync the Bluetooth audio w/ the picture, though it isn't terrible. Sync only works for HDMI or Toslink. Odd design choice.) There are no pics of the magnetic grills on the Crutchfield site so I added one. The remote speaker terminals accept bare (or tinned) wire ends only, though in pics they look to be 5 way binding posts. I have not tried other inputs. I have wished for a headphone jack, but not an imperative. Marketed by Klipsh, which I did not realize until I looked at the back of the manual.

Pros: Great clarity Reasonable price

Cons: No banana plugs No headphone jack

They look great. They sound fantastic for the price. The amp could be beefier but it'll get you there. The remote function is killing the cool factor though. The remote barely works and a universal remote didn't make it better. It has to be the receiver. It takes numerous presses and several arm contortions to get the remote to work. Not good. Fix that and it's a 4 star beef up the amp and it's a 5 star product.

Very pleased with these speakers. I have them paired with the Jamo 808 sub, which I think is absolutely essential for them to sound good. The Bluetooth feature works great and has good range. My pair arrived in perfect condition with no scratches or damage. For the price, especially considering they are powered, they are great. Sound pretty good, look pretty good (with the grill on), great connectivity. These sound great for music that you don't want to feel. If you want that low-end, you need a sub. Without the grill on, they look pretty dumb, but with the grill the look good. They are not small, measure your space before getting them. They sounded pretty awful out of the box but after a few hours the sharpness and tinniness were gone. I've never really heard the burn in stuff before, for these, it is real.

Let em play awhile

Dan from Port Townsend, WA on 7/19/2020

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

These are surprisingly close to the full range of most bookshelf speakers. Bass is respectable given the woofer size, and highs are not harsh. It plays plenty loudly too. They need 20-25 hours of use to break in (I let them play a full day while at work), and hi-res music makes a substantial difference. Don't blame the speakers for free Pandora's fidelity! Personally, I would prefer a volume control on the front in addition to the remote. I do wish I could have ordered the black; the white actually clashes with its own grill! My sample arrived marked and damaged though, apparently from the factory since no packaging was damaged. The clear eye for the remote had a chip in it like it was shot with a small BB, and the other speaker had colored marks. I'd have advised Crutchfield of their condition but since they worked, I didn't want to waste my time holding for chat or a phone call. Sorry to include this here, but there is nowhere else I can say it: Crutchfield, sometimes getting back to a customer the next day or so is fine; why waste a customer's time forcing them to wait for real-time responses, especially with Covid delays? In decades of business with Crutchfield, this is my first ever complaint about service!

Pros: satisfyingly musical powerful

Cons: white is kinda ugly grill clashes--I leave it off

I bought these to use as desktop speakers/monitors and couldn't be happier. The size is perfect for my 3x monitor and extra-long desk setup. They setup and synced with both my Windows 10 PC (USB DAC) and Samsung Galaxy S10 mobile phone (via Bluetooth) without issue. The magnetic dust covers, and included remote control (with included AAA batteries) were a nice added touch. Overall, I couldn't be happier with my purchase for the price. FYI - The included speaker wire to connect the L and R speakers is only about six feet long, so be sure to pick up some if you need to route your cables nicely like I did. Luckily I had some 16-guage wire on hand to do the job.

Pros: - Look fantastic - Sound great - Easy setup - Good packaging - Magnetic dust covers - Remote control (with AAA included batteries)

Cons: - Only 6' of speaker wire to connect L to R

These are well-built and capable speakers and seem to produce plenty of volume. Bluetooth works easily and the optical connection and the subwoofer connecter are welcome. My only negative is that the speakers are a bit weak in the bass range, which is why I am using a small subwoofer with them.

Cons: A bit weak in the bass range. I added a subwoofer to improve the overall sound.

I ordered these speakers and the left speaker wasn't working and then notified Customer service, immediately they sent me the replacement speakers. The problem was not in the left speakers but the right speaker which is the main speaker with controls had the issue. Received the new speakers and they are working fine and the sound quality is good but like many other reviews it won't blow you off. For the price, they are definitely worth it. Later, I will definitely add the Subwoofer for better bass. No issues with remote unlike many others faced. I would have rated 4 stars for speakers and 4 stars for customer service but due to defective products and repacking and dropping off at the UPS store, I had to give 3 stars for the overall experience.

Pros: Good price Decent speakers

I've tried other 'budget' powered bookshelf speakers like the lower-end Edifiers, and these are clearly better -- better, richer sound, better build quality, better looking (I really like the wool mesh grills myself, very old school). You can crank the volume pretty high without noticeable distortion -- they are plenty loud enough for a small/medium-sized room or office. One complaint is something other reviews have mentioned: the IR remote control functionality is bad, at least where 'power on/off' is concerned. It often takes several clicks on the remote to get the things to turn on or off; it is indeed annoying. Once on, other functions like volume up/down work OK. Still it's hard to complain. Overall I'm really enjoying these!

Pros: Great performance for the price

Cons: Remote control / IR sensor are glitchy

I would highly recommend these speakers ,everything comes in the box for a quick and easy set up, if you purchase the matching subwoofer all you need is a subwoofer cable . Jamo powered speakers for near field desk top listening

Crutchfield customer from Parkland, FL on 6/15/2020

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

On sale at half of the suggested price is what you should pay. I purchased these to use as desktop speakers because they are self powered and have multi inputs along with a sub out. I would never use these as main speakers. The sound out of the box was tinny , but a few things changed, First, I replaced the thin wire enclosed with much heavier gauge wire with banana plugs. You cant insert the plugs, but they do fit nicely in the wire terminals. This set also needed to burn in and they did begin to sound much better after an hour of music. Finally, you NEED a subwoofer to make this all work. I had an old Pioneer 8 inch sub I hooked up and once I had everything balanced and running, we had success. As a near field speaker on your desk, the imaging was fantastic. I enjoyed every type of music played via an I pod connected by cable. Having the sub below added what was missing when you only have a 4 inch woofer and a small cabinet. I bought this for my son who will be using blue tooth , computer and other connections and a subwoofer . I would never give this to my kids to use as a main system . Give them your old receivers and speakers when you upgrade. So to sum up: -Use better wire to connect them to each other. -Use a small subwoofer with them. -Listen as near field to hear what thry can do. -Let them break in before passing judgement.

Pros: Excellent near field sound. Just the right size for a desk.

Cons: No bass. Tinny at first. Laughable speaker wire enclosed.

Inferior to 28-year-old speakers

Larry from Whidbey Island, WA on 6/12/2020

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I'm disappointed. I bought these speakers to use for streaming in my office, where I listen to a variety of classical music while I work. The sound is deficient in the mid-bass (of course I don't expect low bass with micro-woofers), and there's audible distortion-an annoying scratchiness-in orchestral strings even at low volume. The remote seems to work fine (unlike some of the buyers here have reported). The stereo imaging is fairly good. These speakers were to replace a 28-year-old Nakamichi shelf-sized stereo whose power amp has just about given up. The Jamo speakers are about the same size as the Nakamichi's. I set up a switchable A/B comparison, and ... well, there's no comparison. The Nakamichis, nearly three decades old, sound superior in every respect and on several different styles of music. I wish I didn't have to go to the expense and hassle of returning the Jamos, but I'm going to. I wish I could just get my Nakamichi receiver repaired.

I didn't realize these were technically a Klipsch product when I bought them, but I was able to nab them for a steep discount. Bluetooth and USB functionality is great, sound quality is superb with a software equalizer--especially with how small these powered monitors are. For desktop speakers and frequency response, the amount of clarity and bass these can provide is shocking; however, if you plan to use them to fill a room with sound, consider adding the compatible subwoofer.

Pros: Small size, great frequency response.

I love the the magnetic speaker grills and the fact you can toggle the LED (which is color coded to the input you're using) on and off. Rating them 5 stars for the discounted price. Its pretty value good for what it is. Really nice imaging of vocals, but really lacks any depth in highs/mids/lows. I mean for what these sell for they are a very good value. I'd argue for not a lot more you can get something with slightly larger woofers and a much fuller sound. I don't think I'll be returning them, but I wasn't blown away. They are good, but not great

These speakers are a solid platform for bluetooth streaming of music (our primary intended use) in a small/medium space. The sound quality holds together well even at high volumes. As other reviewers have noted, the compatible subwoofer would probably round out the low end, but that's not a problem with the speakers and should be expected. The remote is thoughtfully laid out, and you can even shut off the little blue LED power indicator in the speakers if you're running these in a place such as a bedroom where darkness is appreciated. Overall, these are great.

serious listeners will not mistake these powered speakers for multi-thousand dollar bookshelf speakers but I feel I got a very nice product with these Jamo 801's at a cost that is more realistic to me and my tight-fisted ways. I am one of those non-essential people working from home and I've had plenty of opportunity to listen to these speakers. i believe I'm getting good open sound in my small space, using both the Bluetooth function and a CD player I plugged into the analog outlet provided on the back of the power speaker. The Jamo's are plenty loud enough and horns, drums, guitars they all sound true to me. even the classical has defination coming out of these speakers. the remote works well for me, this one is dedicated only to the speakers; no TV sound channeling thru the Jamo's. If I could bring myself to spend thousands for bookshelf speakers I might but these are doing the job just fine thank you.

Attractive desk speakers

Admirably decent sound, but fall a little short in the bass and full resonance. I'll probably add a sub in at some future point. Happy with what I needed them to do (computer speakers). After a windows update with USB drivers, the speakers no longer work with USB (they had the first week). They do work with a headphone jack to RCA connection.

Pros: nice look, decent sound

Cons: slightly light on the bass, hiccups with USB connection

Excellent speakers to add to a computer for music. Good sound at all volumes. Don't know how they work with a TV; I wasn't interested in that application.

Pros: Good at all sound levels; clear musical sound. Easy to set up for Bluetooth operation.

Great sound, TERRIBLE remote

Crutchfield customer from West Palm Beach, FL on 5/25/2020

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Overall I'm incredibly disappointed with these speakers. The sound is great for the price point, detailed mids and highs, and just enough punch in the upper bass to give the speaker depth. But unfortunately the remote and/or the IR sensor is terrible. I saw reviews on the internet that others had problems with the remote as well. This is my second set. The first ones I returned because of the remote issues and curiously this set has issues as well, but not all the same ones. I'm a computer technician, so I troubleshoot all day every day and know electronics. Just basic functions like volume up/down, sometimes you have to press the buttons multiple times before it accepts the signal. Even two inches away from the sensor. Turning them off and on is the same hassle. They eventually work, but the frustration factor is very high. I'm not going through the hassle of returning them yet again, so I'll just deal with it because they do eventually work.

Solid speakers for a small entertainment system

Crutchfield customer from Holly, MI on 5/24/2020

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Great speakers overall. I'm using them with my tv and they sound very clear in the middle and upper range. Has a rear port for low-end bass but it's really weak so I'm glad it has a connection for a subwoofer. But even without it, overall sound is a great improvement over standard TV speakers or lower end soundbar speakers. Otherwise, the design is clean, and I like that there is a button to turn off the front LED. However, the IR receiver on the front is pretty bad as the remote can be finicky with connecting. I have my amazon fire remote set to control the speakers and it too can have a hard time so I think it is the receiver on the front. It can take some time to adjust the volume both up and down which is annoying when you realize you have the volume too high and need to bring it down quickly. This seems to be a common complaint in most reviews but overall I'm pretty satisfied. Would definitely recommend, especially for the price for a solid small entertainment system setup.

Pros: Setup time, sound quality, connection options, looks

Cons: Bass, remote connectivity

So much better than I ever expected

Crutchfield customer from Decatur, GA on 5/24/2020

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

This review is by a 60-year-old that loves music, but the ears are fading. I had a 20 year-old Bose Wave Radio that died. I almost ordered some Chinese speakers off Amazon when I saw the Jamo S 801 PM were on sale (Crutchfield). While I wanted a component system, these fit my budget much better. I read all the reviews I could find and there are not many. I found a few more on the Jamo S 801 without the Bluetooth. All good. I called Crutchfield and spoke with Cam. I felt good about the speakers and Crutchfield's guarantee and placed the order. They came quickly and well boxed. Everything needed is included. The speakers are smaller than expected. I placed them 5.5 feet high, 3 feet apart, and a foot away from the wall on wood furniture, centered in a 12 x 25 foot room. I plugged them in, turned them on, connected the Bluetooth, and listened. The bass is amazing, not thumping, but very balanced. What blew me away was the clarity. You will hear parts of pieces you have not heard in years, if ever. They love sax and trumpet (Chuck Mangione!) and the rich details of Bob Seger's voice. They are not afraid of 70s and 80's rockers or the high power of Pink. The only complaint I have had is with some of the modern electronic percussion (which just sounds weird anyway). What has surprised me the most is because they are so clear, we can hear them in the kitchen without making the volume louder. I do not believe I could have purchased anything better for the money.

Pros: Very small - Balanced sound - Amazingly clear - Flawless Bluetooth - Surprising quality - Amazing value - Automatic standby - Nice remote control - Nice appearance, blend in anywhere.

Cons:

The perfect solution to small sound system needs. Much bigger fuller sound than one would think possible from these powered speakers.. very clean. The added bonus is the array of inputs available allowing simple switching between multiple sources as well as BlueTooth connectivity. At Crutchfield's price , you shouldn't pass these up....

Pros: Great sound , great looks , multiple array of inputs including BlueTooth

Cons: The remote control operation could be more responsive... but definitely not a deal breaker... does not merit a hit in the rating overall.

Five stars for value and performance with a subwoofer. Saved $250 compared to the Klipsch R-51PM after viewing a well produced side by side comparison on YouTube. Same sound (essentially - you should listen for yourself, of course), same feature set, same remote, same company (Jamo is owned by Klipsch). Mine are paired with a good quality 10 year old 6.5" mini-subwooder in a finished two car garage. Set them up today and streamed music via a bluetooth connection from my phone. I put on some familiar rock tracks and was very pleased. Didn't get super loud, but they absolutely punched above their weight class and did so with authority. I couldn't find anything disagreeable with focused, critical listening once the sub was dialed in. Within 30 minutes I knew they were keepers. When I switched to jazz I was taken to a new level. The horns on Lee Morgan's 'Sidewinder' were in the friggin room, I'm not even kidding. And I became completely absorbed listening to Sam Cooke's 'Nightbeat'. Wow, just wow. Without the sub they are less engaging, of course. You sort of 'feel' a sub more than you 'hear' it, you know? Still I would say they would be more than adequate by themselves experienced up close on a computer desk. And at this price you have money left over for a subwoofer if you decide you want one.

Great bang for the buck! Needed a decent small speaker to amplify a small record player, worked perfectly! Very impressive sound for the size of the speakers! If you want deep bass, you will definitely need to pair to a subwoofer, but that was not the sound I was going for. Pairing to my phone's bluetooth was extremely simple!

Pros: Small, look very nice, very easy to pair to bluetooth.

Cons: none

My stereo system died and have not had a chance to really look at upgrading, which is what I want to do. I'd been playing music through my computer and that is not very good. I needed speakers to for my computer. The price is pretty good, so I thought I'd give them a try. They are much bigger than I thought they would be, more like small book case size. They are a tad bass heavy too. Other than that, they are great! The sound is light years better than I had before. Streaming various radio stations - WWOZ, WBGO, & KPOO - on these is so much fun. Same with music from the Internet Archive. I've connected to my tv and best is moving my cd player over and connecting to the speakers too. Finally I can play cds again and enjoy the music.

Pros: solid for the price

Cons: they are a tad bass heavy for my taste.

Perfect for a home office setting

Wasn't sure what to expect from these speakers, but what I got is a really musical sounding speaker that sounds great in my office. I've listed to a variety of genres (classical, jazz, rock, blues, etc.) and I'm impressed with the presentation of vocals from a wide array of artist. A little light on the low end and not a pin your ears back rattle the windows type speaker, but just so smooth in the mid-range. They're keepers for sure!

Pros: Vocal reproduction Smooth and musical Not too thin and brash on the high end. Clean and precise at medium volume levels Solid assortment of connections Price point vs quality Seem well crafted Really shows off a quality recording

Cons: Not going to thump the windows but they have a sub you could pair with them Not great for straight rock or alt rock

Great Workshop addition/mid-mod style matches.

I am no audio expert, I do not have precision hearing. Now that that has been established, I was looking for something that was Bluetooth capable and hard wired. I was getting tired of my old rechargeable Bluetooth cube dying on me. I am in the process of renovations my leather workshop/studio and these made a great addition to look and sound. They match well with my mid-mod styling in the shop. I am streaming Spotify 90% of the time via Bluetooth and am not have it any issues. Sound is good, and plenty loud. Once my renovation is complete I am probably going to order the sub to go with it to use as both Bluetooth audio and TV audio.

Pros: Size, sound, versatile, aesthetic

Cons: So far no negatives.

I bought these speakers to use in my bedroom/screening room as a sound bar and music streaming vehicle. They sound great streaming music and just good as tv speakers. They will punch if you crank up the loudness control. I will continue to adjust my audio controls on my tv to get clear the crisp dialogue I need. I feel these speakers will deliver. Easy to set up, 10 minutes tops. The remote is not very responsive at all. You have to tap it 50 times to raise or lower the volume. Replaced the factory-supplied batteries and it got a little better. The remote is the only con I can see at this point. Overall very satisfied with my purchase and Crutchfield's chat customer service, who helped me choose a good digital optical cable for tv pairing.

Pros: Easy set up. Great music sound quality. Outstanding price value ratio

Cons: Remote control not very responsive

First QUALITY speaker purchase

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Awesome speakers. Very happy with the purchase. I don't know if I'd call myself an audiophile, but I do love music. This is my first pair of high quality speakers. These have a clarity that allows me to hear things I haven't heard before. Highs, mids, lows; I can hear different vocal effects I'd never noticed before. I came from a Logitech computer speaker / subwoofer setup, so I lost that knocking bass common in hip-hop and dance/electronic music, but these give me clear, accurate bass. I turn on the "loud" setting on the remote for a little extra punch. And I can always add a sub later for that extra "oomph".

Pros: Clarity, three types of connections to my computer, and they can get loud

Cons: Mayyyyybe I was expecting a little more knock from the bass, but that's what a sub is for, no?
