About the Jamo Studio S 809
Flagship tower performance from Jamo
Flagship tower performance from Jamo
I've been impressed by the sound and value of Jamo's S Series bookshelf and floor-standing speakers. They offer excellent value without taking up a ton of space in your room. The S 809s are the biggest and most powerful speakers in the lineup, and offer exciting sound for music and movie soundtracks.
Each tower sports a trio of 5" woofers for punchy bass and powerful midrange, and a 1" soft dome tweeter for clear, smooth highs. I especially like how these floor-standers look with their magnetic grilles removed — their tasteful wood accents give them a fresh, modern look.
Expand your system to Dolby Atmos®

Jamo Studio S 809 reviews
I had been thinking of new main speakers for the living room where I watch a lot of movies and listen to music. A local store had Jamo brand speakers, which I had never heard of before, but was intrigued by the narrow profile and decent price but they only had the lesser versions which seemed light on bass. I went online to research and found the 809 model which many reviewers found to have a better bass response. I also found a link to Crutchfield's site with a "scratch-n-dent/open box" version of the 809 for considerably less than their normal price. I hooked them up to my Yamaha RX-A770 and set the unit to flat response. The speakers had good top end detail without being harsh and the bass was tighter but still slightly light from what I have been used to. I bumped the bass up 1.5dB and have left it there since. The sweet spot of the speakers is very wide thanks to the dome tweeter and the small waveguide. I don't hear any dead spots in the crossover points and the bass doesn't get muddy in my room nor does there seem to be any port chuffing or box vibrations or anything you might hear with cheaper speakers. Overall I'm very happy with these speakers as all-around mains. Some might find they need a sub but I'm not one to enjoy teeth-rattling bass. I prefer a balanced experience and these definitely deliver on that.
Pros: Good top end detail and tight bass, no muddiness, clean and flat transition from highs to mids with no obvious crossover issues. No rattling, vibrations or chuffing. Easy to listen to for hours with no ear fatigue whatsoever.
Cons: Might be a little too balanced sounding and not exciting enough for some expecting to hear extreme highs and lows without a sub.

Good Bass, great highs (with some adjustments). The high ends seemed to be lacking at factory levels. So I installed Monster XP wires, and the improvement was noticeable, but still not where I wanted for vocals, highs and sound stage. Solved by increasing +DB3 levels on the tweeters (some may think +2DB is enough), which made the highs and vocals come alive to my satisfaction, without being fatiguing. I'm listening to Earth Wind and Fire right now, where the +3db is right for me, but maybe not for other venue. New speaker wiring bought separately (Monster XP) and increasing the DB levels for the tweeters made a pronounced improvement to vocals and high presence, balanced the sound range presence very well

This set of speakers is outstanding for the price! They look great and sound wonderful. ( Everyone has their opinion and ear when it comes to what they like when it comes to speakers.) I need some time to break the speakers in, but for now I believe these sound amazing, look great and definitely fill my living room with outstanding sound!
Pros: Dolby Atmos speakers on top. Magnetic Grills.

What a bargain. Bought these because of a great review by Sound and Vision. The atmos S ATM speakers have built in speaker connections as the sit on the speaker and integrate the wires! Couldn't believe how kool they were and how good they look. They sound marvelous and look even better.. I used the matching the S810 (slim design) to fit under a desk...
Pros: killer design sound excellent looks amazing
Cons: wish the Atmos came with them

Jamo Studio 8 Series: The new Jamo Studio 8 series of loudspeakers has been engineered and designed to complement and seamlessly blend in today's modern environments and fashionable living spaces. Contemporary material and finish choices accentuate the clean, minimalist lines of this European design, while the compact cabinet architecture is an ideal solution for today's urban living environments.
Note: The Jamo Studio 8 series consists of Floorstanding loudspeakers (S805/S807/S809), bookshelf loudspeakers (S801/S803), center channel speakers (S81C/S83C), Dolby Atmos elevation speaker (S8ATM), and powered subwoofer (S808SW/S810SW).
Two-Way Floorstanding Loudspeaker: The S 809 floorstanding speaker features a 1" soft-dome tweeter for smooth, refined high frequencies, and three 5" aluminized polyfiber woofers for balanced, musical low end. The integrated WaveGuide focuses the high frequency sound for dynamic, true-to-life reproduction, while the front-firing slot port allows for better low frequency extension and flexible placement.
Compact Enclosure w/ Wood Accents: The S 809 is specifically designed and engineered to provide exceptional output and balanced, full sound in almost any application despite it's small cabinet size. Wood accents give the speaker cabinet a handcrafted, natural look.
Magnetic Grille: The S 809 comes with fully magnetic grilles (no mounting holes or push pins) for a clean, minimalistic front-baffle design, while the large woven linen grille cloth features a heavy texture which finishes off the loudspeaker's modern look.
Binding Post Terminals: Each floorstanding loudspeaker is equipped with two sets of binding-post speaker terminals - one set for the S 809's tweeter & woofers, and the other set for when using the optional Dolby Atmos Elevation speakers from Jamo (sold separately). The terminals labeled "Main" will connect to your receiver's Front or Rear channel speaker outputs (depending on how you are using the bookshelf speakers). The terminal's labeled "Height" will connect to receiver's Height/Dolby Atmos channel speaker outputs (make sure you have your receiver's amplifier configured for Dolby Atmos). These binding-post terminals will accept bare wire (up to 10AWG), pin-connectors, spade-lugs, and banana plugs (single only).
Applications: The Jamo Studio 8 Series S 809 floorstanding loudspeakers can be used for the front or rear channels in a home theater system, or standing alone in a strictly two-channel stereo system.
- Placement Options: As front channels in a home theater setup or as a 2ch speaker system, the S 809 should be positioned so the loudspeakers create an equidistant triangle between the speakers and your main listening position. They should be positioned no less than 6' apart. As rear speakers in a home theater setup, the speakers should be positioned directly to the left and right of your main listening position, or just behind the main listening position at a 20° angle.
- Mounting Options: Each floorstanding speaker comes with four mounting feet which will need to screwed into the bottom of the loudspeaker's enclosure. There are indentions on the bottom of the cabinet to indicate where the feet mount, but there are no pre-drilled holes. Self-tapping screws are included to secure the feet to the speakers. Each mounting foot consists of a metal plate and rubber pad to protect your floors.
Note: Do not use the speakers without the feet installed. The feet add greater stability and aid in higher quality sound reproduction. Spike feet are not included.
Optional Dolby Atmos Elevation Speakers: Elegant metal fasteners atop the cabinet provide a chic, modern industrial look, but also serve as a connection point for Jamo's S 8 ATM Dolby Atmos elevation speakers (sold separately). This patent-pending design allows for all of the wire connections on the back of the loudspeaker, avoiding unsightly and messy speaker wire going all the way up to the Atmos module - for cinematic, completely immersive Dolby Atmos sound while preserving the beautiful aesthetic of the Jamo Studio 8 Series.
