Flagship tower performance from Jamo

I've been impressed by the sound and value of Jamo's S Series bookshelf and floor-standing speakers. They offer excellent value without taking up a ton of space in your room. The S 809s are the biggest and most powerful speakers in the lineup, and offer exciting sound for music and movie soundtracks.

Each tower sports a trio of 5" woofers for punchy bass and powerful midrange, and a 1" soft dome tweeter for clear, smooth highs. I especially like how these floor-standers look with their magnetic grilles removed — their tasteful wood accents give them a fresh, modern look.

Expand your system to Dolby Atmos®

The 809s have integrated metal fasteners on the top of their cabinets, which serve as a connection point for optional Jamo S 8 ATM Dolby Atmos upward-firing speakers. This unique pairing gives you three-dimensional sound without needing to install in-ceiling speakers in your room.

Features

Jamo Studio 8 Series: The new Jamo Studio 8 series of loudspeakers has been engineered and designed to complement and seamlessly blend in today's modern environments and fashionable living spaces. Contemporary material and finish choices accentuate the clean, minimalist lines of this European design, while the compact cabinet architecture is an ideal solution for today's urban living environments.

Note: The Jamo Studio 8 series consists of Floorstanding loudspeakers (S805/S807/S809), bookshelf loudspeakers (S801/S803), center channel speakers (S81C/S83C), Dolby Atmos elevation speaker (S8ATM), and powered subwoofer (S808SW/S810SW).

Two-Way Floorstanding Loudspeaker: The S 809 floorstanding speaker features a 1" soft-dome tweeter for smooth, refined high frequencies, and three 5" aluminized polyfiber woofers for balanced, musical low end. The integrated WaveGuide focuses the high frequency sound for dynamic, true-to-life reproduction, while the front-firing slot port allows for better low frequency extension and flexible placement.

Compact Enclosure w/ Wood Accents: The S 809 is specifically designed and engineered to provide exceptional output and balanced, full sound in almost any application despite it's small cabinet size. Wood accents give the speaker cabinet a handcrafted, natural look.

Magnetic Grille: The S 809 comes with fully magnetic grilles (no mounting holes or push pins) for a clean, minimalistic front-baffle design, while the large woven linen grille cloth features a heavy texture which finishes off the loudspeaker's modern look.

Binding Post Terminals: Each floorstanding loudspeaker is equipped with two sets of binding-post speaker terminals - one set for the S 809's tweeter & woofers, and the other set for when using the optional Dolby Atmos Elevation speakers from Jamo (sold separately). The terminals labeled "Main" will connect to your receiver's Front or Rear channel speaker outputs (depending on how you are using the bookshelf speakers). The terminal's labeled "Height" will connect to receiver's Height/Dolby Atmos channel speaker outputs (make sure you have your receiver's amplifier configured for Dolby Atmos). These binding-post terminals will accept bare wire (up to 10AWG), pin-connectors, spade-lugs, and banana plugs (single only).

Applications: The Jamo Studio 8 Series S 809 floorstanding loudspeakers can be used for the front or rear channels in a home theater system, or standing alone in a strictly two-channel stereo system.

  • Placement Options: As front channels in a home theater setup or as a 2ch speaker system, the S 809 should be positioned so the loudspeakers create an equidistant triangle between the speakers and your main listening position. They should be positioned no less than 6' apart. As rear speakers in a home theater setup, the speakers should be positioned directly to the left and right of your main listening position, or just behind the main listening position at a 20° angle.
  • Mounting Options: Each floorstanding speaker comes with four mounting feet which will need to screwed into the bottom of the loudspeaker's enclosure. There are indentions on the bottom of the cabinet to indicate where the feet mount, but there are no pre-drilled holes. Self-tapping screws are included to secure the feet to the speakers. Each mounting foot consists of a metal plate and rubber pad to protect your floors.
Note: Do not use the speakers without the feet installed. The feet add greater stability and aid in higher quality sound reproduction. Spike feet are not included.

Optional Dolby Atmos Elevation Speakers: Elegant metal fasteners atop the cabinet provide a chic, modern industrial look, but also serve as a connection point for Jamo's S 8 ATM Dolby Atmos elevation speakers (sold separately). This patent-pending design allows for all of the wire connections on the back of the loudspeaker, avoiding unsightly and messy speaker wire going all the way up to the Atmos module - for cinematic, completely immersive Dolby Atmos sound while preserving the beautiful aesthetic of the Jamo Studio 8 Series.

Q
Can I mix the Jamo S809 with a subwoofer and center speaker from another manufacturer?
paul  Mar 15, 2021

A
Yes, definitely. I have a Definitive Sub and center speaker, the Jamos center speaker did not fit in my cabinet. People tell me the sound is amazing, better than the theater.
mark  Mar 15, 2021
A
Yes you can.
angel  Mar 15, 2021
A
Yes , I have a Bose center speaker works fine. Love the speakers Gary
gary  Mar 15, 2021
A
Yes, you can. All depend on your Receiver, you must mach the impedance only..
florentina  Mar 15, 2021
A
Sure but I've found in the few times I've done it the sound quality hasn't been as fluid or uniform. I'm super happy with my Jamo setup.
terron  Mar 15, 2021
A
Yes, you can mix the speakers as long as your receiver has multiple channels.
ricky  Mar 15, 2021
Q
Can I hook these up directly to a yamaha cd-600 player ?
james  Jan 15, 2021
6 answers
A
No. These speakers are not amplified. You need a receiver, or integrated amplifier, or amplifier and preamp.
edward  Jan 27, 2021
A
No, you can't can't connect any normal speaker directly to a line-level device like a CD Player because neither contain an amplifier. Most computer speakers DO have an internal amplifier, and you CAN connect directly to those. This type of speaker is called a "powered speaker.s". However, very few of them are for room filling home theater and audio systems, like these Jamo speakers are.
david  Jan 16, 2021
A
No I don't think so, you will need amp to power these
timothy  Jan 16, 2021
A
You mean the cd-c600 CD Changer? No, you need a stereo receiver or home theater receiver with an amplifier to drive the speakers.
daniel  Jan 15, 2021
A
These speakers do not have built in power and need a Amp for power - it appears the Yamaha CD player does not have it's own power source - long throated - no - stay well!!! Jim
james  Jan 15, 2021
A
I really doubt it, as that cd-600 doesn't have any channel hookups for speaker cables. You would have to connect your cd-600 & speakers to a AV receiver.
jason  Jan 15, 2021
Q
Any thoughts on using these with a Denon AVR-1300 as the B speakers for Stereo Music vs. my current DefTech ProCinema 600. Would I see a meaningful difference?
paul d.  Jan 05, 2021

A
Well I have mine powered to a Marantz PM5005 and they sound amazing and I use them only as A speakers. I bet they would sound super awesome with a Denon AVR-1300 especially as B Speakers. More power to you if you decide to go that route. These speakers are made specifically for the home theater experience than for the music experience and that's why I have them. I use them for listening Music in Vinyl and CD formats and they give me the sound I was looking for. Hope that helps!
angel  Jan 05, 2021
A
Hello Paul, The jamo 809 should sound good with your Denon receiver. If you don't combine the systems you can always purchase jamo center and rear speakers. My jamo sounds great and the customer service was awesome.
ricky  Jan 05, 2021
Q
Can you bi-amp/bi/wire these?
erhanblc  Jun 24, 2020

A
These speakers cannot be bi-amped or bi-wired

Q
How to connect the Dolby Atmos (Height) wires to a Receiver that doesn't have Height connections (e.g. Denon A/R)?
olivier  Apr 06, 2018
1 answer
A
These S 809 speakers can still work with that type of receiver. There just wouldn't be any reason to get the Jamo S 8 ATM add-on Atmos speakers. Those add-on speakers will only work properly with a receiver that supports Dolby Atmos and has the height channels My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=101

A
mine haven't. been over 2 years.

Not since I have owned them
troy  Oct 10, 2022
A
To your question, I haven't seen any yellowing on any of my 6 pieces of Jamo speakers
phil  Oct 10, 2022
A
The environment in which we live in can be a little harsh. I personally dust and very lightly wipe the outer box weekly. If not a little preventative care I could possibly see them turning yellowish. If lightly cleaning the first time I'd make sure you don't scrub, make sure you use a lightly moist non-linty cloth. Which is hard. Something non brace of. I use my old cotton t-shirts. This is only on the box. Compressed air/ duster any where else. I hope this helps.
jason  Oct 09, 2022
A
I've had mine over a year and they are still bright white. You'll be ok as long as you don't smoke.Enter
william  Oct 09, 2022
A
Ive had mine for over a year. No yellowing so far.
matt  Oct 09, 2022
A
I've had these for over two years and they are still as white as they were. To my knowledge, yellowing occurs only with oil based paints which is not the case with theses speakers. They will keep their original color.
emir  Oct 09, 2022
A
I have not noticed any change in color - Jim
james  Oct 09, 2022
A
I bought a pair of these 19 months ago, and they're still white.

Q
I have a yamaha rx v583 only 80watts per channel will it power these ok? I like running 7 channel when I listen to music. I know if I run 2 channel they will get more power!! But I like the music all around the room. Thanks
craig  Jan 12, 2021
1 answer
A
This will power it , however I have found that when shifting from 5.1 to 7.1 you begin to push the limit a bit as you have now reduced the headroom for amplification. If you have a receiver with pre- amplification outputs , in the future you may want to consider an external amplifier for better headroom with dealing with dynamic range . I hope this helps

Q
Can it be used without the legs?
erhanblc  Jun 25, 2020
10 answers
A
Yes, I have mine on floor without installing the metal legs....
bruce  Jun 25, 2020
A
Yes. The legs are not attached when delivered and the holes are not pre-drilled. We didn't want to put holes in the speakers ourselves so we are using them without the legs.
melissa  Jun 25, 2020
A
I believe you could remove the metal feet, I'm pretty sure the speakers would be less stable. The speakers are thin and tall and work fine with the metal feet
michael  Jun 25, 2020
A
I think yes - but only on a hard floor. I have mine on carpet for example and no way they stay without those legs
marina  Jun 25, 2020
A
Yes they can be use, however when it comes moping the floor they can be damaged
jorge  Jun 25, 2020
A
I have wooden floors so there was no alternative. But I do believe that since the speakers are tall and thin, the legs provide better support.
mel  Jun 25, 2020
A
Yes, absolutely!
brandon  Jun 25, 2020
A
Yes, I didn't instal the legs on mine and they are perfectly stable.
daniel  Jun 25, 2020
A
Absolutely if you have hard floors. You might need spikes for thicker carpets.
bharat  Jun 25, 2020
A
I believe it can, the bottom is flat. But definitely more stable with the legs, prevent kids from tipping it over.

I have a vintage Carver Sonic Holography CM-1090 Integrated amp. Can I use these speakers?
wiscjacque  Apr 24, 2021
3 answers
A
I would think so. I am currently using a Pioneer A-8 stereo amplifier from 1980 90wpc and these Jamo sound fantastic!
caesar  May 12, 2021
A
Yes sir. And you will find these speakers to out perform most anything within this power range. I'm sure you will be happy.
warren  May 11, 2021
A
Sorry, but I have no idea. I guess it depends on the output of your unit. I have used them with a 100 Watt SONY and a little 27 Watt Onkyo with no issues. RGM

Q
Can I still use subwoofer since speaker alone has built in woofers already? if so what is my crossover frequency setting
mario  Dec 18, 2020
3 answers
A
Sorry, but I'm not using a sub-woofer with these speakers. They seem to have plenty of punch in the lower range. RGM
richard  Dec 18, 2020
A
Yes. Jamo actually offers the Studio S809 with their thin space-saving subs. No idea what the crossover would be, sorry.
russell  Dec 18, 2020
A
Yes you can still use a subwoofer. The setting will depend on the set up.

Q
Is the walnut a real wood veneer or some kind of fake wrap?
james  Jul 28, 2019
3 answers
A
I do not think these are vinyl wrapped. They are very hard surfaced, more like a formica type material. Very good build quality.
david  Feb 28, 2020
A
You will not get real Walnut cabinets for that price. They do sound good for the money you would spend.
ricky  Jul 28, 2019
A
Its "fake wrap". I have the darker color so its pretty much black, and you don't realize the fake wrapness of it so much. Hope that helps!
