About the Boyo VTC175M Camera Bundle

The backup bundle

Boyo knows that not everyone can fit a video receiver in their dash, so they've bundled a high-quality dash monitor with their VTL17 HD backup camera for a convenient parking solution.

The backup bundle

Boyo knows that not everyone can fit a video receiver in their dash, so they've bundled a high-quality dash monitor with their VTL17 HD backup camera for a convenient parking solution.

Easily mount this cam

Boyo has affixed their VTL17 camera onto a sturdy strap that attaches behind just about any license plate. This compact camera delivers an HD picture that's great for low-light scenarios, while selectable parking lines and reverse imaging make it a versatile, little addition. The camera includes a video cable that connects to the monitor.

5" monitor

Once wired for power and video with the included wiring harness, Boyo's 5" monitor attaches conveniently to your windshield with its included suction mount for a crisp view that will be a big help when you're in reverse. An included reverse trigger wire ensures you'll only have to see a backup view when your vehicle is in reverse, and two video inputs allow you to add a front-view camera if you need to be mindful of crunching your low-slung bumper.

Product Research

5" LCD Monitor: The Boyo VTC175M includes a 5" LCD monitor with a resolution of 840 x 480 (384,000) and a contrast ratio of 350:1. The LCD monitor can be used as a front view or backup camera monitor, based on how you configure the included camera. The monitor can be mounted to your dash using the included self-adhesive mounting bracket or to your windshield using the included suction-cup mounting bracket. Both brackets allow you to adjust the LCD monitor for the best viewing angle. The monitor also comes with a sunshade to help block sunlight and reduce glare.

  • Camera Input w/ Auto Switching: The LCD monitor features a composite video jack for its camera input to connect the included camera. Thanks to Auto Switching, when you place your vehicle in reverse gear (requires connection to your vehicle's reverse lamp), the LCD monitor will automatically switch over to the backup camera's video signal so you can see what's behind you immediately.
  • Video Input: In addition to the composite video camera input, the LCD monitor features a second composite video input for connecting a front dash camera (sold separately) or other external video source (sold separately).

Camera with License Plate Bracket: The included camera is equipped with a highly sensitive 1/4" color CMOS image sensor. The camera features a waterproof (IP68) housing and a integrated mounting bracket that is designed to mount behind your vehicle's existing license plate. Once the camera and bracket are mounted, you can position the camera forward or angle it down. The mounting hole spacing of the license plate bracket is roughly 6.75" to 7" apart.

  • Rear or Front View: The camera can be used as a backup or front view camera. By default, the camera will display a mirror image for backup use. If you want to use it as a front camera, cut the white wire loop labeled "mirror control" to get normal (non-mirror) image.
  • Parking Guidelines: The camera provides parking assist lines on the screen of the included monitor. These parking lines are there to assist you when backing up into a parking space. There are two vertical lines which help you judge the left and right edges of the parking space and your vehicle. There are also three color-coded (green/yellow/red) horizontal lines that are used to distinguish how close you are getting to the end of the parking spot. If you do not need and want to remove the parking guidelines, then simply cut the blue wire loop labeled "Parking Line Control".
Note: The Boyo VTC175M is meant as a back-up aid only; never solely rely on the rear view camera system when backing-up. In addition to using the rear view camera system, always look behind you to make sure everything is clear when backing up your vehicle.

Rearview Monitor:

  • Width = 5.1875"
  • Height = 3.375"
  • Depth = 1.125"

Camera with License Plate Bracket:

  • Width = 7.75"
  • Height = 1.4375"
  • Depth = 1.5"

Customer Q&A

10 questions already asked

Is this compatible with a 2014 Toyota Sienna?

I purchased the boyo bundle I had to call visiontechs tech department to get the wiring instructions. There aren't enough info in the boyo manual. They got me on the right track on my installation.
[ isidoro  Aug 31, 2020 ]
How wide of an angle view do you get with this camera?
[ Nancy  Aug 09, 2020 ]

It stopped working, so I can't say how wide of an angle
[ GARY  Aug 10, 2020 ]
It is pretty wide. I'm guessing about 135 degrees. I hacked it up and mounted it dead center on a Jeep wrangler and I like it a lot.
[ John  Aug 09, 2020 ]
It's pretty wide and you can adjust it. I don't think it's 180 degrees but still pretty good.
[ John  Aug 09, 2020 ]
Is the screen on this unit to bright at night? I've had similar units and the screen was blinding at night. I want to use this as a full time monitor.

outstanding performance very happy with it
[ EVERETT  Apr 26, 2019 ]
The screen appears similar to others that I have seen. At night I wouldn't want to have a full-time screen on my dash. I have toggle switches installed for mine.
[ Richard D.  Apr 26, 2019 ]
Hey I am new to this, I just want to make sure before I make a purchase that I can connect the camera the back license plate and have the monitor in the front(right by the driver) and it should work correct? Also, how close does the camera need to be to the monitor for the connections to work?

Mine wasn't wireless but the cam bolts on to the license plate hardware. Just pull power for the cam off the back up light (i wanted mine on while I was driving too, so pulled from running light). I installed mine in a Nissan NV200 and there was plenty of adequate gauged wire included so install was pretty straight forward.
[ JOHN  Aug 02, 2017 ]
I just installed this camera on my 2007 Ford Ranger Extended Cab pick-up truck. The supplied cabling was JUST long enough to go from the rear license plate to the dashboard on the driver's. The monitor has to sit very close to the left of the dashboard (close to the side of the truck). I put the connections where the camera cable attaches to the long cable behind my left rear tail light. This used up some cable but it's a convenient location if I need to access the connections.
[ Chet  Aug 02, 2017 ]
You can mount camera to license bracket and put monitor on the dash. The video cable that comes with it should get you all the way. With a wired system you should be able to go as far as you need. You can buy an extension for the cable if needed. The wiring diagram that comes with the unit leaves a lot to be desired. If you have a problem with it,ask an electrician to help you out. There are several ways you could wire it. On some vehicles you cannot connect extra load to some circuits. I connected mine to the backup light circuit at my trailer hitch receptacle. The camera works when truck is in reverse. You may want yours to work all the time. Something to think about. If you don,t have trailer hitch wiring you may want to ask your dealer where it is best to connect to. Lots of luck and have fum.

You can mount camera to license plate bracket and put monitor on the dash. The video cable that comes with the camera should reach all the way in most cars. On a wired system any reasonable length should be okay. Could get extension cable if needed from Radio Shack or the like. The wiring diagrams that come with the unit leave a lot to be desired. You may need to ask an electrician to explain if you have a problem. In many new cars you should not add an extra load to some lighting circuits. Better check with your dealer about where you get power. I connected to the backup lights at my trailer receptacle which should be okay on any car if you have trailer wiring. Mine works only when my Tahoe is in reverse. You might want yours on all the time. Some thing to think about. There are several ways you could wire it. Have fun.

My nephew just installed this in my Honda Accord and the monitor is on my window (low on the left side as I am left handed), and the camera is attached at the top of the license plate. Works great
[ Charlene  Aug 01, 2017 ]
I put this Boyo Camera on a Honda Oddysey. Camera on License Plate and Mounted the Monitor on the Dash.I did have to get a Yellow RCA Camera cable and coupler to extend the Camera cable about three feet. Van is pretty long. I suggest you only use one power source. The 12V that goes active when you go into reverse worked good for me. In the Honda the 12V reverse signal was behind the Drivers side Kick Panel. Their Support team was very good with answering my questions. NCC
[ Nick  Jul 31, 2017 ]
It should work fine. The camera is hard wired with an rca cable so the distance between the camera and monitor can be as far as the cables length.

I had a professional install my BOYO VTC175 Back-up camera but I would assume you are correct. I only want the camera "ON" when I am backing up.
[ RON  Apr 21, 2017 ]
How difficult is this to install?
[ Mish915  Mar 29, 2017 ]
1 answer
The installation is pretty straight forward, but will require hard-wiring to a power wire and reverse light wire in your vehicle. For more details on installation, feel free to contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. Hope that helps!

Can you connect a front camera to the monitor as well or is it a single output?
[ Malcolm  Mar 28, 2017 ]
1 answer
The Boyo VTC175M 's monitor features a second composite video input for connecting a front dash camera (sold separately) or other external video source. If you would like to discuss further, feel free to contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. Hope that helps!

Do you have any pictures of the back of the monitor? I am looking to do a vertical mount vs on a dashboard. Also what are the dementions of the monitor... not just screen size?
[ John  Feb 02, 2017 ]

it's black with some buttons and offhand I'd say its 5 1/2" x 4 3/4". Mine is also mounted on the dash
[ JOHN  Feb 13, 2018 ]
I'm afraid we don't have any photos of the back of the monitor available at the moment; but the dimensions of the monitor are: width = 5.1875" x height = 3.375" x depth = 1.125" If you would like to discuss further, feel free to contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.

can you connect this camera to your stereo, instead of the monitor included?
[ ichuntaro  Jan 16, 2017 ]

If you do not want/need the monitor, the much better (and affordable) option would be to get the camera by itself: I hope that helps. My Bio:
