About the Klipsch Reference R-10SWi

High-quality bass made simple

Klipsch knows how much fun it is to have your own home theater. They also know that running a long cable from your receiver to your sub can be challenging. So they've equipped the R-10SWi with wireless signal transmission — this power-packed sub can deliver deep, impactful bass anywhere you have a power outlet.

Klipsch R-12SWi Reference wireless powered subwoofer

The wireless transmitter plugs into your receiver's sub output, and sends high-quality bass across the room.

How it works

This sub's "secret sauce" is how Klipsch transmits low-frequency effects. The included wireless transmitter plugs into the sub output on the back of your receiver (sometimes labeled LFE). Simply plug the transmitter and the sub into an A/C power source and you're ready to rock.

Wireless signal transmission offers flexible placement

There are two huge benefits to using a wireless subwoofer. Not having to snake a long sub cable across the floor keeps kids, pets, and gear safe. And having placement flexibility for your sub can significantly improve your system's bass response. We recommend trying your sub out in a few different spots around the room to see where you get the best performance.

Features

Wireless Receiver & Transmitter: The Klipsch Reference series R-10SWi powered sub features a built-in wireless receiver and comes with an external wireless transmitter that plugs into your AV receiver's LFE output. Thanks to this 2.4GHz wireless connectivity, your receiver can now send its LFE audio signal to the R-10SWi powered sub wirelessly (no subwoofer cable required between receiver and sub). Wireless range is approximately 30' at CD-quality level.

Note: Both, the powered sub & wireless transmitter will require AC power.

10" Woofer: The Klipsch Reference series R-10SWi powered sub is fitted with a powerful 10" copper-spun IMG (injected molded graphite) front-firing woofer for deep bass. The copper-spun IMG woofer is exceptionally light while being extremely rigid, providing remarkable low frequency response with minimal cone breakup and distortion. The front-firing woofer gives you greater placement flexibility than a down-firing woofer.

150 Watt Amp: The Klipsch R-10SWi powered sub employs an all-digital 150 watt RMS (300 watt Peak) amplifier for high efficiency and dynamic bass performance.

MDF Cabinet: The R-10SWi is housed in a durable MDF cabinet and finished with a brushed black polymer veneer. The MDF enclosure is rigid and protects against unwanted vibration and distortion.

Rear Firing Port: The R-10SWi's enclosure uses a bass reflex design with a rear-firing port for greater efficiency and bigger bass.

Controls: The level control, low pass crossover, and phase control allow you to blend the powered subwoofer's low-frequency tones with your system's other speakers, as well as establish the ideal level of bass.

  • Level Control: The level control adjusts the subwoofer's volume relative to the rest of your home audio system. After the sub's level control has been set, the volume control of your AV receiver will be the volume control for both the Klipsch powered subwoofer and your connected loudspeakers.
  • Low Pass Crossover: The variable lowpass crossover is adjustable from 40-120Hz. The crossover point chosen determines where low bass frequencies are "handed-off" from your AV system's loudspeakers to the Klipsch powered subwoofer. Set the crossover point based on the size of your systems' main left/right speakers.
  • Phase Control: This control is used to acoustically match the subwoofer's output to your main speakers. Select the position either 0˚ or 180˚ in which your subwoofer has more output at the listening position.

LFE/RCA Inputs: If you prefer a hardwired connection, the Klipsch R-10SWi powered subwoofer is also equipped with a pair of line-level RCA-type inputs to connect the sub to your receiver or integrated amplifier.

  • LFE Input: Most of today's AV receivers have a line-level subwoofer output (LFE). If your receiver has an LFE output, connect one end of a subwoofer cable (sold separately) to this output and connect the other end of the cable into the powered subwoofer's line-level input labeled "LEFT/LFE". Set the powered sub's built-in crossover to "LFE" with this type of connection.
  • Stereo Input: In absence of a subwoofer (LFE) output on your receiver, as an alternative hookup, you can connect Left & Right channel pre-amp outputs from the receiver to both the "Left/LFE" and "Right" inputs on the powered subwoofer.

LED Indicator: The front-mounted LED power indicator lets you know when the sub is powered on or off. The LED will light green when the powered subwoofer is on and receiving a signal. If the LED is dark and not lit, the powered sub is off.

Auto Power On/Off: The powered subwoofer will automatically turn On when it senses an audio signal. It will automatically go into "Standby mode" after 15-20 minutes with no audio signal. You can also choose to turn the powered sub On or Off manually from the rear-switch on the back.

Placement: Klipsch powered subwoofers are designed to reproduce deep bass and deliver the impact that makes your movies and music come alive. For optimum performance, place your subwoofer in a corner of the room on the same wall as your front channel speakers. Please note that room placement can have a dramatic effect on the performance of your powered subwoofer. Corner placement, as suggested above, will increase the amount of bass output, while placing the subwoofer along the middle of a wall, or out in the room will decrease the amount of bass output.

A
I have a pair of Klipsch Reference regular speakers, and they have incredible depth of sound but struggle a little at low frequencies. This is totally expected, of course, so I decided to add the sub to give subtle deep bass when listening to music at home. This will allow me to add crossovers to the regular speakers which should enhance their performance. [ SIMON  Nov 18, 2018 ]
A

I picked this item because of the wireless connection and the quality, and sound Klipsch is known for. I currently have the Klipsch bookcase, center and surrounds and have been very happy with them. A
Steve, I have texted my wife to ask her to measure the power cord. If I don't hear form her, I will measure it when I get home and reply later this evening if that's OK.. I actually have two of these subwoofers - one in my upstairs "media room" which is about 15'x18' and one downstairs in a cabinet in my living room area (not ideal placement down there). In both areas, they easily fill the room with plenty of bass. The downstairs has 11' ceilings and is a big space. I also have 6 Klipsch CDT-5800-C IIs installed downstairs and they fill up the space and sound great.

Q
What is the range of the wireless signal? Would it pass through a brick wall to another location about 20 feet away?
[ rayray  Jul 30, 2019 ]
4 answers
A
Hello, mine was located 40 feet away and going through a double insulated wall with no issues, the sounds was awesome. The system uses the 2.4GHz signal to broadcast, which is the same type used for cordless home phones. Klipsch doesn't give range specifications, but my past experience using devices with this type of signal, I have found it works very well going through structures. Not knowing your type of brick wall--If it was me, I'd install it--I bet it will work fine. I hope this was helpful! Frank
[ Frank  Aug 07, 2019 ]
A
I think so, it passed through my mother in law.
[ david  Aug 05, 2019 ]

20 feet away, yes. Thinking a brick wall could be a problem, but probably would have to test, or call support to see if they have any experience with systems around brick walls.

Q
Is this compatible with a Marantz NR1609 receiver and Klipsch RP4000F Speakers ? Thank you
[ Luis  Jul 29, 2019 ]
1 answer
A
Hi Luis, thank you for your question! The Klipsch Reference R-10SWi subwoofer is compatible with the Marantz NR1609 receiver. You have the option of using a wired connection to your receiver through the subwoofer preamp output, or you can use the sub wirelessly with the included wireless transmitter. This sub will also be a great match up with your Klipsch RP4000F speakers. Feel free to chat with an Advisor online or by phone at 1-800-324-9695. They will be happy to answer any other questions you may have!

I have not used it with other Klipsch speakers so I really cannot say, and actually, while I originally was going to use it wirelessly I used it as a wired speaker. I am very happy with the product.

A
I forgot to mention I also have it paired with an R-25C center channel speaker! They all rock!
[ Robert  Apr 21, 2019 ]
A
I have this set up and paired with Klipsch R-15M and R-14M in my surround system. It works well with them. There is a minor delay with it activating upon initial start up - and that's my only complaint. Being wireless is a greater benefit for me so the delay is no big deal.

Q
Why does Crutchfield charge sales tax to customers in California now?
[ C  Apr 01, 2019 ]
1 answer
A
The Supreme Court recently passed a law allowing state governments to mandate online sales retailers to collect sales tax even when they don't have a physical presence. CA (along with many other states) have required we now collect tax at the point of purchase. If you have questions or take issue you can contact your local state government representative.

I have this sub to connect to a edifier bookshelf speaker set that has a sub out port. The transmitter doesn't connect to this since it's lfe I think, the bookshelf speaker has a l/r ports and a cox port too, what should I do too make it work?
[ Austin  Mar 02, 2019 ]
2 answers
A
I have two Klipsch sub's used in different applications. But in both cases, the amplifier source has an RCA-type connector for the output to the subwoofer. I have looked at the web for those Edifier speakers and I can find no documentation about what the connector is--clearly not an RCA. "LFE" does not refer to the connector type, but rather the signal type--in this case "Low Frequency Effects". Not sure what I can tell you other than perhaps get some technical advice from the Edifier folks. And the "COX" is an input to your bookshelf set--same RCA-type connector, but the signal it will receive has to be digitally encoded somewhat like what would come through the optical connector. Neither of these latter will do you any good connecting to a sub woofer.

I listen to a lot of the greatful dead soundboards and the fidelity is outstanding pretty much strait forward in the higs and mids they dont demand much from the speaker but the bass at times is subsonic and it'll shake the room . My question is im looking for a subwoofer that can reproduce that experience What would you suggest without breaking the bank ? Peace out

This sub will definitely shake the room. Of course lots depends on whats powering your system.

Q
Can I run 2 r10swi subs simultaneously using both transmitters? Or, will 1 transmitter work for both? Or, will I have to hard wire one to avoid buying a wireless control center? Thx george.
[ George  Nov 28, 2018 ]
4 answers
A
It all depends on your amp! I run both my subs through my Yamaha RX-V673, which has connections for two subs. You won't need a wireless control center if your amp is a newer model. Hope this helps, the sub is fantastic, nice not having to hard wire them. If you have to hard wire your looking at the wrong item.
[ DENNIS  Nov 29, 2018 ]
A
I see no reason to believe that you couldn't run two subs off of one transmitter. You press and hold the sync button for 3 seconds to pair. Just make sure both subs are powered up when syncing. Not sure that two would offer any additional benefit over one. Obe sub can give you overwhelming unidirectional bass even in a hollow room. I keep the gain on mine set around a quarter of the way up.
[ Terry  Nov 28, 2018 ]
A
I don't know. Wow, the thought never even crossed my mind to use two of these. One does the trick for me and I chose to hard wire it. If you feel you need two subwoofers, maybe you should consider a larger one with more power. Remember, the low frequencies aren't directional in nature. Cheers!

[ Henry  Nov 26, 2018 ]
A
There are no markings or switches on the sub to indicate it is dual voltage.
[ Robert  Nov 26, 2018 ]
A
Kelvin, no, it is 110/120 only. The sub and the powered wireless sender are both 110/120 only.
[ Bruce  Nov 26, 2018 ]
A
I live in a country with 120V/60Hz AC power. The R-10SWi I purchased last year says "AC IN 100-240V - 50/60Hz 2A" on the back (and the 2A must be a maximum spec since such would vary depending upon input voltage). Hence, at least the one I purchased is dual-voltage capable. There is no external transformer--so if you will use this with a 220/240V system, the power cord will need to have an adaptor or will have to be specified for that country.
[ ROGER  Nov 26, 2018 ]
A
I don't believe so. It only has a standard 110 plug.

[ Dissatisfied Customer  Dec 01, 2017 ]

A

[ Butter  Dec 01, 2017 ]
A
Yes, the wireless is optional, the sub has line in connections you can use to hard wire
[ Jerald  Dec 01, 2017 ]
A
The subwoofer has a left and right RCA line in. In order to use it wired, your receiver will need preamp outputs. If your receiver has a sub output, wireless is the way to go. If your receiver has neither preamp or sub outputs, the subwoofer will not be compatible.
[ Terry  Dec 01, 2017 ]
Q

A
It was included the purchase price you can't go wrong with Klipsch
[ Henry  Dec 01, 2017 ]

It can be hard wired if you wish, but the wireless works so well it would be more pragmatic to use it. This is not a bluetooth connection. The unit come with it's own transmitter that plugs into the speaker output. Couldn't be easier to set up.
[ DAVID  Dec 01, 2017 ]
A
The wireless feature is optional but you need to buy the sub woofer cable to connect it in the wired configuration separately.
[ mohit Philip  Dec 01, 2017 ]

Yes. I have mine connected via cable to my AVR and have not used the wireless feature.

Q
Could I use this sub ( R 10 SWI) with Klipsch RP 160 Bookshelf speakers and a RP 250 c center channel speaker?
[ Cecil  Sep 23, 2017 ]
5 answers
A
I have this sub paired with Klipsch R-15M bookshelf speakers, Klipsch R-1650 in ceiling speakers and a Denon AVR-S530BT Receiver. As long as your receiver accepts or has an input for a sub, your speakers should work with this sub.
[ William  Sep 25, 2017 ]
A
As long as your receiver has a sub output port you should be fine. Most newer receivers have a calibration function, which you'd need to do to tune for your room. I think you'll find the improvement of your audio will be incredible.
[ DAVID  Sep 23, 2017 ]
A
Yes as long as you have a receiver or something that it couldn't hook up to it will work fine
[ KEVIN  Sep 23, 2017 ]
A
Absolutely I think you'll be very happy with this sub as long as the receiver has a pre sub Outlet I would highly recommend it
[ G  Sep 23, 2017 ]

I would think so. I use it with the R-15M and R-14M along with the RP250 and it adds the depth that is missing with those smaller speakers.

Yes, it can be. My Bluetooth dongle got damaged so started using it via Wire. However, I would say if the wire is not grounded you will hear a "DUB" sound for evry song or channel change.

Hi Mike, I recently purchased a complete Klipsch surround system that included this sub woofer. I have my Yamaha receiver and the R-10SWi in a entertainment cabinet. The sub is 30 feet away and it works fine. The remote aspect is Bluetooth which does not require line of sight for operation.
[ PETE W  Feb 14, 2017 ]
A
Yes. This is my exact scenario. It works great. There is a slight delay, maybe 1 second, when the audio initially begins while the sub is waking up from standby mode. After this, the sound is in sync with the main drivers.
[ Jacob  Feb 13, 2017 ]
A
Hi My situation is the same and mine works fine. My distance of separation is about 30 feet and it does fine
[ Rick  Feb 13, 2017 ]

[ Debby  Feb 13, 2017 ]
A
Should work just fine. My receiver is also in an enclosed cabinet and the sub is about 25 feet away, no issues what so ever.
[ RICHARD  Feb 13, 2017 ]
A
In my experience, yes. Since it is a wireless (not infra red) connection, it behaves like a wireless router in your home network. The type and amount material obstructing the signal will dictate the signal strength received by the subwoofer.
[ sergei  Feb 13, 2017 ]
A
Not sure. Mine is across the room from the home theater receiver.

Q
I see the MartinLogan SW2-TRD and the Klipsch R-10SWi both operate at 2.4 GHz. Will that interfere with my Siemens Gigaset 2.4GHz wireless home telephone system?
[ John  Nov 12, 2016 ]
1 answer
A
The 2.4GHz range is commonly used with other household electronics (such as cordless/wireless phones) which can create interference if too many are installed in one home or area. However, both Klipsch and MartinLogan specially designed their wireless subwoofer transmitters & receivers to reduce any potential interference or "cross-talk" with other household electronics; so I wouldn't expect any issues to arise with your Siemens phone system. I hope that helps!
