Purchased this unit to compliment my stereo in my 1800 square foot shop, it fills in the bass great. Pull it out of the box, plug and play. The amount of bass this produces without distortion is amazing. The sale price on it was just plain silly too, always happy with Crutchfield, Thanks!

What a upgrade from a Polk PSW110 that ended up dying an early life. Very nice, powerful and deep!

Pros: Price, increased power and size (over a 10" 100W sub).

Cons: None that I see.

James from Ocala, FL on 12/10/2018

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a great sub well made with plenty of power. Works well with music or movies and the bass will rattle the windows. My living room is about 15' x 25' and I'm sure it would work in a much larger room then that. I got it at a great price and even at full price it is worth every penny!

Pros: Lots of bass

Cons: I sure can't think of any.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've only had mine for a couple of weeks. Still in the break in period. But this thing rattles my whole house. Had to dial it back a little. I have it paired up with a Bit America F-12 & Pioneer, Boston acoustics & Klipsch speakers. What a difference this thing makes. The only drawback is that port hole noise.

Pros: Fits in my living room perfectly, lots of bass, easy set up.

Cons: Porthole noise.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great sound, but that is what I expect with Klipsch. Fits great in the room, and is a great compliment to our whole sound system. Noticeable upgrade over the bargain subwoofer I had before, but with the price it wasn't a huge financial step. And of course the great customer service!

looked at a lot of reviews decided on the Klipsch as the price was cut 50%. I bought two so in reality I got two for the price of one. The difference is amazing, my wife noticed the difference right away. This is the first step in updating my system.

15" sound from a 12" unit

Clifford from Wichita, KS on 12/2/2018

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This subwoofer replaced a JBL PSW-D115 15" unit I have had since the mid 1990's that is 20H x 20W x 23D and weighs about 45 pounds. Needless to say smaller lighter with modern technology wins every time. The Klipsch R-120SW fits in admirably with excellent room filling sound. Add to that Crutchfield's free shipping and pricing that matches or beats anyone's and their technical support and you just can't go wrong. Existing customers already know all this but you new customers should take note. The blue and yellow tag guys don't even come close.

Pros: Great sound reasonable size and weight

Cons: Can't think of any since I got it on sale at half price.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I did not realized how much my current setup was under powered with my old subwoofer. It was an entry level Klipsch sub from 20 years ago. This front firing woofer was something I really needed after plugging it in and reconfiguration my 5.1.2 Atmos setup with it. So happy with the purchase and how quickly it arrived, maybe not my next door neighbor though.

Gets very loud with little volume, very articulated powerful bass, and it looks very good with the grill off ... I have them crossed at 120Hz and they are positioned right between my front towers... They sound sweet...

Pros: Articulated and powerful bass papá...

Boom and Thump!

Tony from San Francisco, CA on 11/29/2018

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Wow this thing booms and shakes my laminate floors! I have this bad boy hooked up with an Onkyo RZ820 and Polk RTI A9's and am loving the thump. I am still in the process of moving it around and adjusting the LFP on LFE to optimize for my L shaped room. The woofer is bigger, but that's on me and not Klipsch. Love Crutchfield's staff and culture!

Pros: ... Rumble ...

Cons: Make sure it fits in your space

Major improvement over previous subwoofer

Jeff from Bowling Green, KY on 11/29/2018

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had been thinking about replacing my 2.1 channel garage / man cave stereo system Polk Audio powered subwoofer. Having always been a big fan of Klipsch speakers I chose this one and my expectations have been exceeded. Wow! This speaker is so very powerful. We're still experimenting with settings however this has been a major improvement for the often utilized stereo system. Also, pretty amazing to receive a heavy carton (sub was well protected) like this in two days. For bass lovers, you can get all the bass you want out of this model. Highly recommend.

Pros: Beautiful cabinet, superb construction and very powerful and clear bass output.

Cons: none whatsoever

Great sub, hard hitting

Nathan from Eureka, SD on 11/29/2018

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This sub hits hard. I already had a Jamo J-12 and was questioning doubling my bass. It was the right decision! With the power switch on the back, I can easily turn it off when I only need 1 rumbling. I am very satisfied with this sub.

Pros: looks great, hits hard, very affordable, easily adjustable

Cons: my pictures rattle now, and walls, and floors, lol

Great all around sub

Sebastian from Park Ridge, IL on 11/28/2018

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great deep sound. Fills the entire room with the right amount of bass. I still have a lot more that I can tap into which is nice.

Pros:

Cons:

Bass sounds fantastic. Love watching movies with it on.

John from Merced, Ca on 11/16/2018

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

At first I thought it didn't work but found out it was a setting on my receiver. For the price this sub is hard to beat and it sounds fantastic. When I really turn it up I have some recessed lighting that will rattle from the bass. I love it! Crutchfield customer service and support is the best. I was skeptical at first but now know why they receive great reviews. After my purchase it went on sale and they honored the new sale price for me. Thank you Crutchfield.

Pros: Sounds great.

Cons: Not sure if its really a con but this sub is not little.

Features

12" Woofer: The Klipsch Reference series R-120SW powered sub is fitted with a powerful 12" copper-spun IMG (injected molded graphite) front-firing woofer for deep bass. The copper-spun IMG woofer is exceptionally light while being extremely rigid, providing remarkable low frequency response with minimal cone breakup and distortion. The front-firing woofer gives you greater placement flexibility than a down-firing woofer.

200 Watt Class D Amp: The Klipsch R-120SW powered sub employs an all-digital 200 watt RMS (400 watt Peak) amplifier for high efficiency and dynamic bass performance. The built-in, all-digital amplifier of the R-120SW subwoofer delivers ample power with high efficiency and true-to-source accuracy reproduction - thus providing maximum output, detail, and power that fills your home.

Rear Firing Port: The R-120SW's enclosure uses a bass reflex design with a rear-firing port for greater efficiency and bigger bass.

MDF Cabinet: The R-120SW is housed in a durable MDF cabinet and finished with a scratch resistant, textured wood-grain vinyl. Its reinforced MDF construction reduces cabinet vibration for less audible coloration and improved sonic accuracy - giving you the ultimate listening experience that's built to last. There are heavy-duty rubber feet on the bottom of the cabinet to help isolate the subwoofer from your floor. The included low-profile front grille adds a refined look and is acoustically transparent.

Controls: The level control, low pass crossover, and phase control allow you to blend the powered subwoofer's low-frequency tones with your system's other speakers, as well as establish the ideal level of bass.

  • Level Control: The level control adjusts the subwoofer's volume relative to the rest of your home audio system. After the sub's level control has been set, the volume control of your AV receiver will be the volume control for both the Klipsch powered subwoofer and your connected loudspeakers.
  • Low Pass Crossover: The variable low pass crossover is adjustable from 40-120Hz. The crossover point chosen determines where low bass frequencies are "handed-off" from your AV system's loudspeakers to the Klipsch powered subwoofer. Set the crossover point based on the size of your systems' main left/right speakers.
  • Phase Control: This control is used to acoustically match the subwoofer's output to your main speakers. Select the position either 0˚ or 180˚ in which your subwoofer has more output at the listening position.

LFE/RCA Inputs: The Klipsch R-120SW powered subwoofer is equipped with a pair of line-level RCA-type inputs to connect the sub to your AV receiver or integrated amplifier.

  • LFE Input: Most of today's AV receivers have a line-level subwoofer output (LFE). If your receiver has an LFE output, connect one end of a subwoofer cable (sold separately) to this output and connect the other end of the cable into the powered subwoofer's line-level input labeled "LEFT/LFE". Set the powered sub's built-in crossover to "LFE" with this type of connection.
  • Stereo Input: In absence of a subwoofer (LFE) output on your receiver, as an alternative hookup, you can connect Left & Right channel pre-amp outputs from the receiver to both the "Left/LFE" and "Right" inputs on the powered subwoofer.

LED Indicator: The front-mounted LED power indicator lets you know when the sub is powered on or off. The LED will light green when the powered subwoofer is on and receiving a signal. If the LED is dark and not lit, the powered sub is off.

Auto Power On/Off: The powered subwoofer will automatically turn On when it senses an audio signal. It will automatically go into "Standby mode" after 15-20 minutes with no audio signal. You can also choose to turn the powered sub On or Off manually from the rear-switch on the back.

Placement: Klipsch powered subwoofers are designed to reproduce deep bass and deliver the impact that makes your movies and music come alive. For optimum performance, place your subwoofer in a corner of the room on the same wall as your front channel speakers. Please note that room placement can have a dramatic effect on the performance of your powered subwoofer. Corner placement, as suggested above, will increase the amount of bass output, while placing the subwoofer along the middle of a wall, or out in the room will decrease the amount of bass output.

1 question already asked

Yes, sub will work with this Denon receiver. The question should be would the AVR S740H work. I've had issues with mine. [ John  Dec 12, 2018 ]
I am sure it would work with any receiver equipped with an output for a subwoofer. [ Steve  Dec 12, 2018 ]
It appears that AVR has 2 line level outputs for subwoofers. This sub will accommodate that so I see no reason why it shouldn't work with that receiver. [ Brian  Dec 12, 2018 ]
It should. I have a Sony STR-DH550 & it works fine. I'm also running dual subs. So you should be okay. [ Elbert  Dec 12, 2018 ]
You would have to look at the manual or the back of the unit to see if there are subwoofer outputs... [ Jeff  Dec 12, 2018 ]
Yes it would, def worth it, you will love it [ Maurizio  Dec 12, 2018 ]
