Features

Two-Way Design: The Klipsch R-1800-C in-ceiling speaker employs a 8" polymer-cone woofer and a large motor structure for high sensitivity. A coaxially mounted 1" polymer-dome tweeter distributes smooth, clear highs over a wide area. The Klipsch R-1800-C in-ceiling speaker brings dynamic acoustic performance to both home and commercial environments.

Basket/Frame: The R-1800-C has a sturdy ABS basket and frame. The frame can be painted to match any decor (a clear paint mask is supplied to protect the drivers from overspray). The aluminum mesh grille is also paintable.

Spring-Clip Terminals: The Klipsch R-1800-C in-ceiling speaker features two spring-clip terminals which will accept either bare speaker wire or pin-connectors. The spring-clip speaker terminals are color-coded (red/black) for easy identification between positive and negative.

Power Specifications Note: The manufacturer has specified the maximum power handling of this speaker as 40 watts RMS (160 W Peak). Klipsch has also published a recommended amplifier power specification as 80 watts.

Mounting Options

Installation: The speaker can be installed in new or existing construction. It requires a cutout diameter of 9.8125" and a mounting depth of 4.3125". For new construction, purchase of the IK-800-C installation kit (714IK800C, sold separately)  is highly recommended. For existing construction, the speaker should be installed in drywall at least 3/8" thick. It can also be installed in a drop ceiling (2' x 2' or 2' x 4' ceiling tiles only). In both cases, to maximize the acoustic performance of the in-ceiling speakers, Klipsch recommends you replace the original mounting panel with 1/2" or 3/4" plywood or MDF. A cardboard template is included to assist you in making the cutout.

How many come in a box?

Greetings Austin. Thank you for your question. These are sold as each meaning one speaker. On our website if it says by the price pair, you receiver two. In this case it says each.

Q
Is there a trick to getting the speaker grille to snap in? Install guide just says "press the grille into place". It appears the grille on the Klipsch 1800C ceiling speakers is slightly larger than the circular indentation. If I try using my palm @ the center it dents @ the edge. I tried slightly bending the inside edge inward which gets most of it in but there's still several inches along one edge that won't press up w/o denting. The magnetic grilles on other Klipsch speakers weren't an issue but these aren't going in and I have around a dozen pairs to install.

A
These are designed to press into place, Gillian. I think the move you mention pressing carefully around the edge to avoid bending the grille with pressure on the center is a solid move. I would try another one of the speaker/grille combos you have on hand just to see if there is an easier attachment to the grille. If the issue persists, give us a call on our Technical Support hotline and we can take a look to help troubleshoot!

Q
Would these be okay in a vaulted ceiling opposite of each other?
jacob  Nov 23, 2022
1 answer
A
Greetings Jacob, and thank you for your question. It pretty much depends on how the fixed tweeters on these speakers are going to direct the sound. Think of high frequencies as more directional. They can work well in vaulted ceilings if the sound from the tweeters are angled in the direction the sound needs to be. There are in ceiling speakers that have a pivoting tweeter to compensate for certain pitches of ceilings. CDT 3800-CII can do that.

Q
Are these speakers referred to as 70 volt systems?
terry  Sep 13, 2022
1 answer
A
Greetings Terry, and thank you for your question. These Klipsch R 1800 C are not for 70 volt systems. They are straight 8 ohm speakers. 70 volt speakers need to have a built in transformer, to carry over the signal to the next speaker. all the speakers are connected from one to the next kind of a daisy chain. All our 70 volt speakers are on the commercial speaker page under the Pro Audio section.

Q
Do these sound good without putting them in a "box" ?
alan  Aug 29, 2021

A
I have 4 in my ceiling, witch are not in a box / enclosure. Used as side and rear surround. Truly depends on how you have your sound balanced and of coarse what you are watching / listening to. I love the klipsch brand, I like all my stuff to match. I had invested so much into Front L,R,C, 2 12in Subs, and the Receiver. So I bought these on a budget. I would love to spend $350-$400 / speaker but not yet. I sure an enclosure would make the sound better, regardless if speakers cost $100 or $400. But again budget. If your budget allows I would get the enclosures.

I have many of these installed in the drywall ceilings of my house in a multi-zone system. They sound very good simply installed in the ceiling or wall as they were designed for.

Q
What is the best way to paint the speaker cover? Brush?
christopher  Mar 29, 2021

A
I went to a paint specialty store and had some aerosol paint made up to match the latex paint on the ceiling, and I painted the outer ring and the grills with the aerosol paint from the can and they look great.
jason  Aug 30, 2021
A
I wouldn't paint the grilles, the paint would block or restrict the holes, muffle the sound. The outer ring could be scuffed with a fine 3M scuff pad , I would use a spray can paint but a brush would work fine.......... But I didn't paint mine.
raymond  Mar 30, 2021
A
honestly i didn't paint them i don't like the way the paint builds up on the grill, I'm more interested in the sound than if it it matches with the ceiling paint

Q
Would these speakers work well as in ceiling Atmos speakers for a 7.1.2 or 7.1.4 setup? The other speakers would be Klipsch Reference Premiere. I didn't know if the timbre not matching would matter.

They work great in my setup
kevin  Apr 26, 2020

I have them as a 5.1.4 and they work great. I read elsewhere that there is little benefit to going with expensive in-ceilings and although I haven't experienced both to offer a comparison, these don't not leave me wanting for more. The white color matches my ceiling well.

Hi Diego, I mounted mine in the basement ceiling (under living room floor) during a full house renovation, so I had the convenience fabricating enclosures between the floor joists.
andrew  Mar 29, 2019
A
I did not use an enclosure. My installation is in a ceiling as surround speakers, with floor above. I also filled space with fiberglass insulation. Works great.
kevin  Mar 29, 2019
A
I put a screen in the area to keep insulation off the speaker. They sound great!

Honestly, i did not use them for that. i mounted them for music around the home. However, they would work great for rear behind "height" spreakers. they are great sounding! J

Sure, no reason not too. I really enjoy mine for this purpose.

Q
How do these speakers sound without any enclosure behind them? I had a pair of Polks that sounded like trash without any box behind them (very large attic over it, no "baffle" from floor of the room above it, or a shallow attic). Is there a recommended enclosure size?
