Ready, aim, music!

A rigid anodized aluminum woofer produces accurate bass and mid-bass. The pivoting tweeter lets you direct clean highs toward your favorite listening spot, for a broad soundstage with well-defined imaging. And treble and mid-bass level switches let you tailor the sound to suit your personal taste and room's acoustics.

Horn technology for room-filling sound

Because high-frequency sounds are more directional than bass frequencies, it's especially important to target them right toward your ears. Klipsch places their titanium tweeter inside a flared opening, known as a "horn," which disperses the highs evenly across your listening area. This design brings out details in everything you listen to, while reducing reflections that can color the sound. The horn also improves dynamics and efficiency, for powerful, "front row" sound that remains crystal-clear at all volume levels.

Slimmer chance of being seen

The '5800-W II keeps a low profile with its Slimtrim™ grille. The visible frame size is reduced by 90% and grille depth is reduced by 80% over previous designs, for a nearly flush finish that blends in beautifully. The paintable aluminum, magnetic grille attaches securely with ease to virtually eliminate resonant distortion.

An optional in-wall bracket is recommended for installing the R-5800-W II in new construction.

    Rich sound with good bass

Jason from Ft Mitchell, KY on 11/24/2018

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I start all reviews the same because I think it is important to know that I am not an audiophile. I know what sounds good but cannot parse every sound, nor am I sophisticated enough to explain the technical side. With that being said, these speakers were everything I was looking for and more. The hookup and installation was easy. The low profile in-wall setup is great. The speakers have some heft to them and give you confidence in their quality. I was uncertain if I was going to get a subwoofer at initial setup so these were recommended because they good amount of bass. Whether you listen at high or low volume these speakers will not disappoint

Pros: In wall design, quality construction, wonderful sound

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers are amongst some of the finest I have ever heard. My first pair of Klipsch was about 35 years ago, I bought a pair of Forte' and fell in love with the manufacturer. I have since owned several pairs of in wall and outdoor speakers. I recently bought 4 of these in wall for our Large living room in our new house. I have no regrets whatsoever.

Pros: Exceptional sound, excellent speaker posts, easily installed, magnetic grilles.

    Cons: None

    Wow, outstanding!

David B. from Lansing, MI on 8/8/2016

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have to say I was apprehensive about buying speakers unheard, and the only way to hear them as intended was to cut open a wall and install them. They did not disappoint! The bottom is solid and tight, midrange is rich, without being muddy and the highs are crisp and distinct. These speakers fill a fairly large room with no strain at all. They are everything I hoped they would be.

Pros: Excellent sound; easy installation. Love the nearly invisible look.

Cons: The bottom is not as deep as floor speakers - but almost.

    Spectacular sound

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

We bought a pair of these to serve as the front left and right channels of our media system. The sound quality is crystalline--from the high end to the impressively deep lows. Voice and music are awesome. Every footstep, every rustle of fabric is utterly clear. No distortion at higher volumes, either. They have transformed our listening experience. The perferect complement to our OLED television.

    Pros: Great sound. Great looking.

    Cons: None.

    Outstanding Product

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After reading positive reviews all over the net I took the plunge. I never purchase items like speakers without hearing them first. Well, this time I did. I have heard all the Klipsch "classics" and was always impressed with their sound quality. Wen I installed these speakers I was in awe. They somehow got about 95% of the sound quality of the "classics" into these! You can't miss the high quality crystal clear treble and powerful clean bass! The bass output is strong down to about 50hz. With my subwoofer off and a modest boost of 3 to 4db in the bass control and these provide an exceptionally full sound even with bass heavy music! If you are going to be using these with an external amp I would recommend purchasing an equalizer to bump up the bass a little in the 30 to 60hz bands. Or use an amplifier that has bass and treble controls for extra zones like the Yamaha Avwntage series Rx-a1000 and up. I am powering mine with a slightly older RX-A2030. The combination is exceptional especially when playing vinyl records thru my dynavector 10x5 cartridge! You will be thrilled by these speakers!

Pros: Sound quality Build quality Ease of installation Very low profile speaker grilles Speaker efficiency Power handling is substantially more than what the ratings lead you to believe. Not that you need much for them to play quite loud.

Cons: With the material attached to the inside of the grilles and the small holes in the grilles themselves it does not really lend them to painting.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

A rich, full sounding speaker with great lows and clean highs. Easy install and great value.

Pros: 8" woofer allows a greater low end.

    Cons: None

    Great In-Wall Speaker

David L from Virginia on 3/10/2014

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I recently purchased a pair of these speakers to replace some older speakers in my kitchen ceiling. I use these speakers for listening to music, rather than in a surround sound system. My Crutchfield advisor recommended the Klipsch R-5800 for music applications due to the lower frequency response of this model as compared to certain of the other models that are designed more for surround. The sound is excellent. I might describe it as very even between the highs and lows- there is no sharpness or tinny sound in the highs- it is a very full, even sound. Pushed the speakers to a relatively high volume (more than I would normally listen in the kitchen) and they rocked. Very pleased with these.

Pros: Great sound. Magnetic grill looks great and fits very flat.

    Cons: None.

High Efficiency: The high-efficiency design of the Klipsch in-wall speakers allows you to get much more output than most in-wall and in-ceiling speakers. Due to the long speaker wire runs that are common in whole-house audio systems, the power coming from the amplifier is significantly reduced by the time it reaches the speakers. The 94dB efficiency of this speaker means it will play much louder at low power than other less-efficient speakers.

2-Way Speaker System: The R-5800-W II uses a premium 1" Titanium compression driver (tweeter) mated to an exclusive Tractrix Horn, combined with a large 8" Cerametallic woofer in a 2-way design.

    • Tweeter: The 1" Titanium dome compression tweeter is mated to a 4" square, pivoting Tractrix Horn, which disperses the sound 90° horizontally and 60° vertically into the room. The horn design dramatically increases efficiency by enabling the speaker to produce more output using less energy. The horn-loaded tweeter allows you to point the sound to a specific location, and has more controlled directivity than a conventional dome tweeter. The addition of a Linear Travel Suspension to the tweeter increases high frequency detail and smoothness.
    • Woofer: The copper-colored 8" Cerametallic woofer utilizes solid Aluminum diaphragms, anodized to add stiffness and provide perfect damping, and have a new hi-tech look that also delivers increased rigidity for even tighter, more defined bass. The new integrated dust caps further strengthen the cones and help ventilate the voice coils for increased driver durability.

Speaker Terminals: The speaker has a gold-plated pair of spring-loaded binding posts that can accept up to 12-gauge wire, single banana plugs, or pin connectors.

Tweeter/Midbass Attenuation Switches: If the speaker is installed in an acoustically bright room, such as a bathroom or a kitchen, you can attenuate the tweeter by -3dB, using the Tweeter Attenuation Switch. If the speaker is located in a corner and produces too much bass, you should adjust the Mid-bass level switch (-3dB). Both switches are located on the front of the speaker.

ABS Basket/Frame: The R-5800-W II has a sturdy ABS basket and frame. The frame can be painted to match any decor.

SlimTrim Magnetic Grille: With an all new grille, the visible frame size is reduced by 90% and grille depth is reduced by 80% over the previous design, for a more edge-to-edge consistent look that blends in with the wall more attractively. The new aluminum, paintable, magnetic grille attaches tightly and securely with ease to virtually eliminate resonant distortion.

Power Specifications Note: The manufacturer has specified the maximum power handling of this speaker as 50 watts RMS (200 W Peak). Klipsch has also published a recommended amplifier power specification as 100 watts.

    Mounting Options

New or Pre-Existing Installation: The in-wall speaker can be installed in new or existing construction. It requires a cutout diameter of 9.125" wide x 14.6875" high, with a mounting depth of 3.9375". A cardboard template is supplied to measure cutout opening. For existing construction, the speaker should be installed in drywall (or other mounting surfaces) at least 3/8" thick. The Klipsch in-wall speaker features four sure-grip mounting dogs (clamps) that provide even pressure against drywall for long-term installation reliability. For new construction, purchase of the IK-800-W installation kit (714IK800W, sold separately) is highly recommended.

IR Knockout: A 1/2" diameter knockout panel is provided in the lower left hand corner of the speaker frame for installing an IR sensor.

    Why did you buy this?

I have owned several sets of Klipsch speakers in the past and love the sound they produce. I find them to be a fairly high end product that most sound lovers will adore. [ DONALD  Sep 23, 2017 ]
Needed to hear the TV in the kitchen. Thu a added amp, we can really hear now [ Johnnie  Jan 13, 2016 ]

    Works either way [ Dan  Mar 17, 2018 ]
Should be fine horizontal. The weight won't be balanced in the horizontal, so a little easier to get level when vertical IMO. [ JON  Mar 16, 2018 ]
Mine are installed in exterior walls in New England so no boxes were used. They sound incredible as is. If you are mounting in interior walls I would consider boxes or just pushing in some insulation and taking it in place so it has about 1-2 inches between speaker and installation so they can breath. These are sealed and are not vented so no heat/cooling loss. Simply cut the hole, run the wire and they have flaps that fold out and grad the drywall to secure them in place. Grills are magnetic and paintable. I did not paint them. We change the color of that room every 3-4 years so keeping them white to match the trim. They blend in nicely. Almost flush. [ Brian  Oct 12, 2016 ]
I didn't use any back box. But all of my walls are exterior. The sound is very good. I just have a little spray foam insulation around the speakers. [ Chris  Oct 11, 2016 ]
i used these as rear surround sppkrs in wall with no back box". and works fine .the space between studs is your enclosure .Caulk is totally not needed. [ CARL B  Oct 11, 2016 ]
I went straight into the wall with nothing but rolled insulation behind. No modification. They sound incredible. [ Adrian  Oct 11, 2016 ]
Center channels are overrated. Get two good towers and go without a center. You'all never miss it. Most amps can do a phantom center from the twin towers and it will beat any center re frequency response. [ Brian  Oct 12, 2016 ]
I used the in wall speakers as my center channel and they sound great. I'm not sure what to recommend. But you could possibly consider building a small wooden enclosure to mount these speakers and place where you want. It would a little more work but it would allow you to be consistent in your speaker use. [ Chris  Mar 15, 2016 ]
