About the Klipsch Reference R-625FA

Eric A.

Two speakers in one

You may have heard about Dolby Atmos — it's a type of surround sound that expands your home theater's soundstage vertically using dedicated height channels. The Klipsch Reference R-625FA works like a regular floor-standing speaker, but it's also got an additional set of upward-firing drivers built into the top of the cabinet to reflect sound off of your ceiling. That's a lot of Klipsch home theater goodness in one speaker.

    Features

Integrated Dolby Atmos Speaker: Not just your typical full-range tower speaker, the Klipsch R-625FA features a high performance up-firing Dolby Atmos speaker integrated in the top of the cabinet that reflects sound off the ceiling for an enveloping soundstage. The integrated up-firing speaker consists of a 1" aluminum LTS tweeter mated to a 90° x 90° square Tractrix Horn, plus a 5.25" spun-copper IMG cone woofer.

Note: Dolby Atmos delivers captivating, object-based sound that places and moves audio anywhere in the room to bring entertainment alive all around the audience. With Dolby Atmos sound comes alive from all directions, including overhead, to fill a home theater with astonishing clarity, power, detail and depth. Learn more out Dolby Atmos here.

1" Horn-Loaded Tweeter: The R-625FA floorstanding loudspeaker features Klipsch's proprietary Tractrix Horn technology mated with a 1" aluminum LTS tweeter, for impressive high-end response and greater extension, enhanced imaging and powerful dynamics.

    • 90°x90° Tractrix Horn: The square Tractrix Horn delivers a 90° (w) x 90° (h) dispersion pattern for a broader sound-stage. Klipsch exclusive Tractrix horn technology ensures that the speaker's high frequency energy is aimed at the listener and reduces artificial reverb or filtering caused by indirect sound bouncing off of walls. Using this proprietary focused technology provides clarity, dynamics, and detail for your movies and music
    • LTS (Linear Travel Suspension): Behind each horn lies a 1.0" tweeter with a linear travel suspension. Klipsch exclusive Linear Travel Suspension (LTS) minimizes distortion for enhanced, detailed performances. In addition, Using Kapton (an extremely light and rigid material) in the tweeter suspension provides high efficiency and improve resolution and detail.

Dual 6.5" Copper-Spun IMG Woofers: The Klipsch R-625FA floorstanding speaker houses two 6.5" Copper-Spun IMG woofers. The Copper-Spun IMG (Injection Molded Graphite) woofers are exceptionally light while being extremely rigid - providing remarkable low frequency response, with minimal cone breakup and distortion.

Power Handling: The R-625FA's main front channel, consisting of one 1" Tractrix horn-loaded LTS tweeter and two 6.5" Copper-Spun IMG woofers, can handle up to 100 watts continuous (RMS) and 400 watts max (Peak). The R-625FA's up-firing Dolby Atmos channel, consisting of one 1" Tractrix horn-loaded LTS tweeter and one 5.25" Copper-Spun IMG woofer, can handle up to 75 watts continuous (RMS) and 150 watts max (Peak).

Rear Tractrix Port: The rear-firing Tractrix port is perfectly matched to the cabinet and woofers, creating ideal airflow with minimal distortion or turbulence even at the lowest frequencies.

MDF Cabinet: The Klipsch R-625FA floorstanding speaker features a MDF cabinet with a scratch-resistant, textured wood grain vinyl that seamlessly integrates into almost any room or decor. The enclosure's reinforced MDF construction reduces cabinet vibration for less audible coloration and improved sonic accuracy.

Acoustically Transparent Grilles: The Klipsch R-625FA floorstanding speaker comes with two removable, black cloth grille that are acoustically transparent.

Binding Posts: The R-625FA is fitted with a set of binding posts for the speaker's main channel and height (elevation) channel. These sturdy binding post terminals ensure a secure connection to many types of cable and connectors. The binding post terminals will accept banana plugs (single only), pin-connectors, spade-lugs and bare wire (up to 10AWG). Two plastic caps will need to be removed to use banana plugs. The speaker terminals are placed low on the cabinet for convenience and an unobtrusive connection.

Note: The speaker's main channel binding posts will need to be connected to your AV receiver's main front speaker outputs, while the speaker's height (elevation) channel binding posts must be connected to your AV receiver's Dolby Atmos effects speaker outputs.

Stabilizer Feet: The Klipsch R-625FA includes two stabilizer feet that will need to be installed to the bottom of the speaker enclosure using the included hardware. Each stabilizer foot features two integrated rubber pads safe for hardwood, tile, laminate, and vinyl flooring. No carpet spikes are included, and the speaker will not support optional carpet spikes or other type of feet.

Note: The Klipsch Reference series floorstanding speaker should not be used without the stabilizer feet installed, due to stability and sound performance reasons.

Application & Placement: The Klipsch R-625FA floorstanding loudspeaker can be used in a home theater application as front and/or rear speakers.

    • Front Placement: For optimum performance in a stereo application or as front speakers in a home theater application, Klipsch suggests placing the loudspeakers 6' to 15' apart. They may also be toed-in slightly for better stereo imaging. The listening position should be about 1 to 1.5x the distance separating the speakers.
    • Rear Placement: When used as surround speakers in a home theater setup, the loudspeakers should be placed by the walls directly adjacent to the listening position. Another option would be by the wall behind the listening position.

Reference Series: The Klipsch Reference series consists of four floorstanding speakers (R-610F/R-620F/R-820F/R-625FA), two bookshelf speakers (R-41/R-51M), two center channel speakers (R-34C/R-52C), and one Dolby Atmos speaker (R-41SA) - all sold separately. The Klipsch Reference series line-up of loudspeakers sound great in stereo and home theater applications.

Optional Powered Sub: For bigger & deeper bass response, pair the Klipsch Reference series loudspeaker with one of Klipsch's powered subwoofers (sold separately

I have a port on my Yamaha called F Presence SP1 (right and left) - Wires from the top block of the Speakers. The other bottom block of the speakers went to the Surround Back for both right and left. Once connected use the Auto Speaker assignment or read through the Yamaha for detecting appropriate speakers. Hi Jared, I eventually returned the speakers due to some echoing coming from the top speaker; so answering from memory i would say the angling may have been at about 30 degrees. Enjoy.

I have a Sony DN1030 7.1 surround. How would I connect these to my Amp as I am running Bose Acoustimass 10 I want to utilize the 7.1 I could remove two of the Bose left and right speaker. Can I hook up the the left and right speaker to the front speaker input and the back/front speaker connection for the ATMOS connection? I need to know if it will work before I buy the speakers?
    [ John  Sep 12, 2020 ]
    1 answer
    A
Hi John. For your configuration, you would need to use the front left and right connections on your Sony DN1030 receiver, as well as connect the Atmos enabled speaker of the Klispsh R-625FA to the speaker connections on the back of the receiver that are labeled surround back/front high. In this configuration you will no longer have rear surround speakers. If you would like to go over this in more detail, please reach out to us via online chat or by phone at 1-800-324-9695. We will be happy to help.

How much power do I need to run this Klipsch R-625FA? 80watts, 95 watts or 100watts? I'm considering a Yamaha reciever.

Hi Michael. The Klipsch Reference R-625FA is a very efficient speaker, and calls for up to 75 watts RMS. We do not recommend exceeding the power needs that are determined by speaker manufacturers. Please chat with an Advisor online or by phone at 1-800-324-9695. We will be happy to discuss these speakers with you, and assist you with finding the best amp or receiver for your application.
    [ JESSICA  Jul 16, 2020 ]  Staff

The amount of power it can handle... well it will handle the 100 watts. But the real answer you should ask is: Do you want clean, crisp, clarity, or do want to wake up the neighborhood. They will do both. 85 watts is enough to enjoy your music with your friend,...100 watts, with your friend & neighborhood. I run a Marantz SR6013 9.2ch, 110w. which matches great for us. This works well for music, and home theater system. If i choose to move them to the pool or outside, my guest(s) or neighbors can enjoy them as well. We are more for the clarity, then that blast. The speakers can give you both. How you use them is up to you. I hope this will help in your decide how much power you need, or want. They are, two different questions. Enjoy. Jan W.

I am using an Onkyo TX RZ630 which has 90 Watts per channel. It does a decent job powering the speakers. I have a 5.1.2 setup with Sonance ceiling rear speakers because of my room configuration. If I could do it over again, I would have gone with a more powerful amp even though my configuration works reasonably well.
    [ Kenneth L.  Jul 14, 2020 ]
    A
    Sorry, I meant class D.
    [ RODNEY L  Jul 14, 2020 ]
    A
Hey again, I was rethinking your question. A lot of it depends on how loud you plan on playing the speakers and the room size. I just usually look for a 100 watt per channel unit but the type of amp and power make a difference too- class C, thx certified, etc all basically just refer to how clean the power is and how much extra power on tap (ceiling) the amp has for movie explosions, etc. without getting distortion.
    [ RODNEY L  Jul 14, 2020 ]
    A
The speakers have a high sensitivity and are pretty powerful. My advice would be to go with 100 watt though less might work, that is what I would consider..
    [ RODNEY L  Jul 14, 2020 ]
    A
    I have a 100 watt Marantz 5012 3years old I was told you can run 95 watts
    [ FRANK  Jul 14, 2020 ]
    A
Klipsch has a reputation for having very efficient speakers. They sound great a low power levels. I powered a set of these with an 80-watt Onkyo home theater for a few years. I was quite happy with the combination. I've since upgraded the receiver to one with 95-watts RMS which is a bit louder, but not much of a difference.

Why does it have two pairs of wires?
    [ Alan  Feb 27, 2019 ]

    A
Two separate inputs. One for the Atmos, one for the rest of it.
    [ David  Feb 28, 2019 ]
    A
It's so you can connect them to the corresponding speakers terminals of your atoms receiver. One is for the regular front speaker and the other for the front Atmos terminal one . The key is to make sure you have an Atmos capable receiver
    [ Marco  Feb 28, 2019 ]
    A
One pair of wire inputs is for the two forward facing speakers and the second is for the upward firing Dolby Atmos enabled speaker.
    [ Matthew  Feb 28, 2019 ]
    A
The speaker operates on two separate channels on your receiver. One is the floor standing speaker and the other is the dolby atmos speaker. The set up for your receiver will direct you on how to connect for optimum performance.
    [ JEFFREY  Feb 27, 2019 ]
    A
Because they're Atmos speakers. One pair is for the front speakers. The second is for the upward firing speakers, whose sound bounces off your ceiling to give you the Atmos effects.
    [ William  Feb 27, 2019 ]
    A
There are two distinct speakers in this enclosure. One pair of wires is for the front facing speakers and the other pair of wires is for the top facing "Atmos" speakers.
    [ Keith  Feb 27, 2019 ]
    A
Speaker has two separate speakers. The front firing and the elevation speaker built into the top.
    [ Jeffery  Feb 27, 2019 ]
    A
It has two connections because it's meant to connect to two separate channels on your receiver. The one connection goes to the top speaker which I use as my height channel in a 5.1.2 Dolby Atmos setup, and the other connection goes to the speakers in the front which I use as my front channel.
    [ Nicholas  Feb 27, 2019 ]
    A
One pair is for the Atmos speaker on top.
    [ Jesse  Feb 27, 2019 ]

If I'm not watching a movie and I'm just playing music will the bottom speaker play and the top speaker not play???
    [ Samuel  Nov 06, 2018 ]

Top speakers require a special Atmos signal. Unless you put your Yamaha Amp in Party mode you probably will not hear from the top speaker.
    [ BENJAMIN  Jan 23, 2022 ]
    A
As far as I know the atmos (top) part will kick in only when a signal is sent be the receiver depending on the audio source being used , so no sound should come out if it's not re order with Atmos encoded into it .
    [ Marco  Nov 07, 2018 ]
    Q
I see that there are two sets of posts on the back of the speaker. Is one for the upward facing speaker on top? If so, which speaker set is this on the amplifier? Does these take the place of the rear speakers? Thank you.
    [ DAVE  Sep 28, 2018 ]
    2 answers
    A
It doesn't take the place of the rear speakers , it is for its own Atmos signal if you are using them as the from pair it's for the front height effect
    [ Marco  Feb 28, 2019 ]
    A
These speakers are designed for use with home theater receivers that feature "height" channels (most commonly: Dolby Atmos capable models). The speaker's main channel binding posts will need to be connected to your AV receiver's main front speaker outputs, while the speaker's height (elevation) channel binding posts must be connected to your AV receiver's Dolby Atmos effects speaker outputs.
