Enjoy crystal-clear sound from these bookshelf speakers

The Klispch® RB-51s deliver rich sound from all your music, movies, and video games. These high-performance bookshelf speakers are part of Klipsch's popular Reference Series — a line of speakers known for its power and accuracy.

Horn technology for dynamic performance

Grille off

The RB-51 use a horn-loaded tweeter. A flared opening in the enclosure projects high frequencies toward your listening area and prevents sound waves from simply spilling out in all directions. It's the same principle that makes your voice easier to hear when you cup your hands around your mouth. This horn design brings out details in everything you listen to, while reducing reflections that can color the sound. The horn also improves dynamics and efficiency, for powerful, "front row" sound that remains crystal-clear at all volume levels.

Disappointed

Jamey from Denton, TX on 8/31/2010

- Muddy bass galore. This only improved when I moved the speakers far enough into the room that they became unpractical. Hopefully this will improve with some break-in. - Lacking in the high-end. I expected the horn-loaded tweeters to be bright, razor-sharp, and dynamic. They are not at all. My aging Polk RTi4s (a lot older and a little cheaper than these) are far more airy, lively, and delicate. (mounted on Sanus; driven by Denon; connected with Monster)

better for small room

I found these speakers lacking headroom and they couldn't deliver the sound I expected in my large room. If your room is small these might be ok as mains but in a large room my advice is only to use them as surrounds.

Way Happy

Rob from California on 1/28/2009

We put a pair of Klipsch RB-51 book shelf speakers to either side of a Klipsch RC-52 center channel speaker and hooked them into an Onkyo TXSR606 Receiver. I'm no "audiophile," I was just looking to supplement the built in speakers on our Samsung HD flat screen. Those speakers were really awful and distorted whenever they had to handle any lows. When we purchased this system it was with the intent to move the book shelf speakers to the rear and purchase a pair of tower speaker when our budget allowed for them. That's now a low priority. Our music and movie sound needs are being nicely met. I chatted with a Crutchfield audio advisor twice prior to buying. And that was great. They answered all my questions and were very helpful in pinning down the receiver we selected.

Great Bookshelf Speakers

I have these hooked up to a Yamaha receiver. They match my RC-52 center channel. I really didn't realize how important it was to match the front L/R to the center, wow. They sound great. Shipping from Crutchfield was fast.

Klipsch Reference Series RB-51

Hooked these up to an 85 wpc amp. While the tweets are somewhat bright, they were not harsh. Nor are they fragile like the silk domes in other brands. These speakers did not distort at any volume and the 5 1/4" mids were very punchy and accurate. Other than the price, I'd say these were some of the very best bookshelves I've heard. I would definitely buy these again.

Driver Technology

Tractrix Horn Tweeter: The Klipsch RB-51 features a 1-inch titanium-diaphragm compression driver inside a square Tractrix Horn for smoother high-end response with greater extension, enhanced imaging and more powerful dynamics. The Tractrix Horn delivers a 90-degree wide by 60-degree high dispersion pattern for a broader sound-stage.

Cerametallic Woofer: The 5.25-inch woofer of the RB-51 bookshelf loudspeaker features Klipsch's distinctive, copper-colored Cerametallic material. Made with an anodized aluminum, this cone is strong and dent resistant. The anodizing process converts its inner and outer surfaces to ceramic. The outcome is a rigid cone with superb damping characteristics that will not flex or resonate at frequencies within the woofer's operating range The 4-inch woofer also employ a rubber surround for added durability.

Crossover Network: The Klipsch RB-51's crossover network is constructed using extremely high-quality components including top-of-the-line internal wiring, polyester film-type capacitors and an air-core inductor to ensure signal purity and proper driver integration.

Enclosure Design

Bass Reflex Enclosure: The 5.25-inch Cerametallic cone woofer and 1-inch titanium diaphragm compression driver are mounted in a Bass reflex enclosure which features a rear-firing port. The bass reflex enclosure features a MDF cabinet finished with a Black Ash wood-grain vinyl. The enclosure uses a low-diffraction sculpted cast aluminum front baffle to improve sound dispersion and features improved internal bracing to prevent unwanted resonance.

Magnetic Grille: The bookshelf loudspeaker features a removable magnetic grille which easily snaps into place over its cast-aluminum front baffle. The speaker can be used with or without its grille in place.

Connections

Binding Posts: The Klipsch Reference Series RB-51 is equipped with sturdy binding posts to ensure a secure connection to many types of speaker cables and connectors.

Mounting Options

Magnetically Shielded: The Klipsch RB-51 bookshelf loudspeaker is magnetically shielded to prevent video interference.

Mounting: The Klipsch Reference bookshelf speaker feature a single keyhole slot on the back of the cabinet for wall-mounting the speaker (mounting screws not supplied). The speakers also come supplied with eight self-adhesive rubber feet (4 for each speaker) so you can sit the speakers on a stand or shelf securely. The rubber feet add approximately 0.3125" to the height of the speaker.

Placement: The Reference Series bookshelf loudspeakers are designed to perform well in a wide variety of locations but you will get the most out of the speakers by following these simple guidelines.

  • Place the front left and right speakers on shelves or stands with their tweeters at approximately ear height for a seated listener. When used surround sound speakers, they normally perform best when placed slightly higher than ear level.
  • The bookshelf loudspeakers should be equal distance from the floor and the wall behind them. It can also helps to have the left and right speakers at different distances from their nearest side walls. This sort of staggering helps smooth the bass range.

Note: The Klipsch RB-51 bookshelf loudspeakers are packaged and sold as pairs.
