Nice speakers !

I bought a pair of RP 160m's which replaced my 20 year old Phase Tech 7T towers..which take up alot of space and the sleeves are looking rather shabby. They'll still be used in another room though. Anyways the Klipsch arrived with a hole in the box but the speaker wasn't damaged. I should have had it double boxed though. Easy to hook up and it didn't seem like I even needed to break them in. Nice sound and I have a Klipsch 12" subwoofer too. These will be powered by a Yamaha RX A2. So far very happy with the look and sound !

Pros: Attractive, solid, sound great.

Cons: None so far.

Great Speakers

Wow! These really pack a punch. I was originally using RP-400 M's for the front speakers which are great but they didn't seem to really balance like I wanted with the RP-400C center. I ended moving the 400M's to the surround speakers and purchased the 160's for the fronts. What a difference. These speakers are well worth it.

Pros: Good overall sound, right amount of bass and perfect match for the RP-400C center speaker

Cons: None.

Immediately striking in looks alone I was also happily surprised with how well they sound having never owned Klipsch speakers before. Using in my office setup for vinyl and streaming. The magnetic grills are a nice touch too! A little bigger than I thought they would be having found them on a "bookshelf speaker" search but can't really complain about bigger speakers either. Totally stoked on these.

Pros: Styling, sound, quality of build

Cons: None

This is my second Klipsch purchase from Crutchfield in the past few months. It is amazing how Klipsch has massed produced extremely high quality speakers, maintaining affordability as well as outstanding performance. All of that coupled with Crutchfield expertise in a day where customer service is extinct, Crutchfield is what I call a living dinosaur.

Pros: Amazing sound reproduction and high quality workmanship.

My son's RP160M's

Crutchfield customer from Saint Louis, MO on 10/28/2021

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I bought these speakers for my son to help round out his surround sound system. I helped with the installation and run Audyssey EQ on his Denon receiver. We actually listened to them prior to running Audyssey and were pleasantly surprised at the sound that the R-160M'S produced. Typically speakers sound somewhat muffled before running EQ (at least my experience) but these speakers fit right in. They were bright but not to tinny. And the base had good punch After we ran EQ these speakers really shined with very good range and definition from both the tweeter and woofer. I'm actually very impressed with the RP160M'S. And my son is absolutely in love with them.

Pros: Very good surround sound speakers Great value for the money.

Cons: None

I had waited almost 40 years to make this purchase.40 years ago I had my high end stereo system stolen. It was the top of the line stereo at the time and life and kids to raise got in the way of me revisiting High Fidelity. As such I studied and searched the internet for the answers and I found those answers at Crutchfield. My wife in my ear about the amount of money the system cost forced me to start my quest with a good entry level Yamaha N303 Receiver which I am quite satisfied with however, after reading about the Klipsch RP160M bookshelf speakers, I Bought Them. Boy did I make the right choice. I was excited when my system arrived from Crutchfield and set it up immediately in my art studio which is about 200 square feet of well insulated space. I hooked up the amp via Bluetooth to my phone and turned it up. The speakers leaped into my space like an excited puppy yet not with the vigor of my expectations. I did not hear all of the things that I had read. So I turned up the volume on my phone to get its maximum output but I was still left wanting more. So I removed the phone from the stereo and hooked it up to my HP desktop with the Bang & Olufsen 16 channel equalizer system on board and BOOM the speakers exploded into to the room and danced off the walls with seductive power. I took the RP160m's on a 4 hour ride with Jazz, R&B, & Classical. Pure Excellence. But they need power, they like to eat to produce the most perfect highs, mids, & bass sound possible. 5Stars+++++

Pros: Great sound clarity Great price for the quality Bass is perfect for my type of listening

Cons: Makes me want to buy 2 more.

I have to admit that I was skeptical because of the lower end Klipsch and Jamo gear I constantly see advertised from Costco and others. I was surprised at how much of an improvement they were over my old (21 years!) and beginning to die PSB Alphas. The sound stage is forgiving in terms of placement and just gives fantastic sound. I hadn't realized how long in tooth my old speakers had gotten until I hooked these up. The sound is amazing and combined with a small sub, it really gives a complete and dynamic image. I really couldn't be more pleased with this purchase.

My speakers arrived in two days in perfect condition. I replaced my 20 year old B&W 601 S2 speakers with these. After listening to them for a week are a nice upgrade. The tweeter on these are very crisp and I actually needed to turn down the treble a bit on my receiver. The bass is also amazing especially when you place the speaker in front of a wall or in a corner - the bass comes alive. Overall these speakers are incredible. Thank you Crutchfield. I'll be buying more stuff in the future.

Pros: Very Crisp clear tweeter Great bass for the size Look great

These little guys are awesome! they deliver crisp treble, and surprising bass for bookshelf speaker. They can accommodate medium to large room, but my only reason for returning them is because I am used to the sheer volume from large tower speakers. These are loud enough and great, so i figured the RP 280F would give me more of the volume and dynamics I'm used to from previous towers with 10 inch drivers. If you have medium or small room, don't hesitate.

Florence

Mariel from Florence on 6/22/2021

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I recently bought a pair of these to replace 4 Polk T15 speakers and a Polk PSW108 sub--I'm downsizing. I placed the speaker on the floor for a bit more bass and hooked them up to my recently purchased Denon receiver and CD player. After 15 minutes of listening, I am thoroughly impressed--and they are not yet "broken in." Bass is good without being boomy (like with the sub) and the treble is clear and unmuddled like I hoped. Listening to songs from one of my favorite albums, Dire Straits "On Every Street," I felt I had made a great speaker purchase--and appreciated the receiver and CD player more than ever. Listening to "Iron Hand," I felt like Marc Knopfler was sitting right across the room from me as he played and sang. I don't know if I'd call myself an audiophile, but I am fairly picky about balancing out the tones in the music I listen to. These speakers just sound "right" to me--and given their size (they're fairly tall), they offer the flexibility of floor or shelf (but probably not bookshelf) placement. Kudos Klipsch for making these speakers and Crutchfield for offering them.

Pros: Price vs. value, craftsmanship, balanced sound--not too boomy, not to shrill

Cons: A bit large for placement IN a bookshelf. Cannot be placed in their side due to design of base (which looks awesome, by the way.)

I have had my eye on these speakers for quite some time, had read the raving reviews but just hesitated as I honestly wasn't a huge fan of the horn loaded tweeters of the R15m speakers that I purchased awhile ago. I looked at the RP600m's but just couldn't justify the price...it's incredibly hard to stay inside a budget with this hobby!! So I watched a couple of videos online about the RP160M's and decided to pull the trigger. I'm so glad that I did! These speakers are phenomenal, the tweeter isn't quite as harsh on these due to the surrounds on the tweeters, seems to lessen the blow a bit, plus with a little tow in or tow out you're in good shape. I run them with my Sansui G4500 receiver and am blown away by the clarity I'm hearing, my vinyl collection sounds so nice! If you're thinking about grabbing these, think no longer! They're very efficient which means even at lower volumes you're going to experience incredible sonic clarity. Absolutely love em, so glad I picked these up.

Pros: Incredible clarity even at low volumes, build quality is solid, horn tweeter isn't as harsh as other klipsch speakers

Cons: Bottom portion of the speaker is a little cumbersome especially when using stands. Other than that, can't think of anything negative about these speakers..

Overall for the price I feel like the RP-160M is a solid value. I replaced some polk S4's I purchased in 1992/3 and while I find the Klipsch a little muddle in the high end and even a little muddy in the low end compared to my S4's I generally like them. I think I'm not used to the horn sound compared to the polk tweeter and they could use a paired subwoofer. I picked 4 stars, because I'm really nit picking more than I should given the price I paid for the RP-160. Also a minor note, I've been using an iPad with Amazon music (not HD) or Pandora as my sources, (driven through a onkyo tx-sr700) my comments might go away with a less compressed source.

Pros: Good value for the price.

Cons: None for the price, but they might not match your taste.

Noah from Stockbridge, GA on 5/3/2021

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

These speakers sound killer and, the louder they go, the better they sound. The point at which they really floored me was when I played some baroque recordings with The Academy of Ancient Music. Whoa! It's like the chamber orchestra was right there in my chamber! How about the big, bombastic sound of Mahler, Tchaikovsky, or Prokofiev? The speakers handle them with ease. Solo Oboe passages will tug at your heart strings and those French horn parts will raise the hair on your arms. And as for listener fatigue, if you're not exhausted by the end of the Beethoven No. 7 then you're not doing it right. With regard to efficiency, I have no empirical data. I can say, however, I hooked these up to my (small) Marantz 2226B and there was nothing small about the sound. Additionally, the speakers immediately revealed the deficiencies in my turntable cartridge. If you're going to be listening in a smaller space then I would absolutely go with a smaller set of speakers. These things are big and need room to breath to truly envelope you in sound. I am a Klipsch horn-loaded convert for sure. I can't wait to pair these with a sub and shake the whole house.

Pros: Big, sturdy, heavy, attractive, loud. Good definition and separation.

Cons: You will want to listen to music all day and buy more records and audio equipment.

I bought these with great expectations, but was initially disappointed with the sound-they lacked crispness and articulation. They were okay, but well below my expectations. The mids seemed muddled and undefined. At first I thought that maybe my hearing was gone, or maybe that my amp was less than perfect (I was getting ready to purchase a new amp). Then I started wondering about my sources of music. All were digitally compressed files. I was able to alternative music sources, and what a tremendous difference! The audible details are incredible, and all that I was hoping for. I am using a direct input, no equalization, and they sound wonderful. I don't find these speakers too bright, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

Pros: great bass response, I don't need a sub.

Cons: You need a large room to fully appreciate these. you shouldn't place these too close to a wall, the rear projection needs some space.

I was hesitant to buy them with the smaller 6.5" woofer, as I'm an old school fan of huge 10" or 12" woofers in speakers, but these have very good bass response for their size. The highs are crisp and detailed as well. I have them connected to an old Pioneer SA 8500II amplifier from 1979 and they handle the power with no trouble at all and fill the room with pleasing sound. Amazing speaker for it's size and price range.

Pros: Good solid bass response, crisp highs, not bulky in size, power handling, design and build quality, appearance.

Cons: Non so far, I'm very impressed and pleased.

I bought these for a bedroom setup. Streaming tv/music from a chromecast as the source, powered by the Sony STR-DH590 AVR. I was not completely dissatisfied with the speakers, however, I did return them. My big complaint about them is how bright the tweeters are. I had read many reviews that talked about this but these seemed like a great bang for the buck option for the simple stereo setup I wanted. I had to turn the treble setting way down on the AVR. Ultimately, I found the funds to upgrade my home theater setup from bookshelf L/R to tower speakers matching the brand there. I then moved said bookshelfs up to the bedroom, thus eliminating the need for these.

Pros: Great price, decent sound overall.

Cons: Very bright tweeters.

Crisp reproduction across the sound spectrum. I've paired these speakers with a Klipsch R-10SWi subwoofer, but truth be told the bass reproduction with the RP-160M w/o the sub is pretty impressive. Great choice for any music type, whether easy listening or head banging selections...

Pros: Crisp sound reproduction across spectrum Great bass for a bookshelf speaker Easy hookup with banana connectors

Cons: Somewhat large for a bookshelf speaker

Great Speakers! I've had them for about 3 weeks now and they are really breaking in nicely. I've got them set up in my 12'x 20' workshop in the backyard and they fill it with sound. I'm driving them with an old Sony STR-D1015 AV Receiver mostly playing Classic Rock and Motown. The details and dynamics are fantastic. Cleanest speakers I have ever heard, and I was in Radio back in the days when we did production of commercials and promos in sound-proof rooms where monitors needed to be accurate. We also needed great monitors while were live, on the air, so we knew what the listeners were hearing. I have heard many monitors made for professional use, but I have never heard anything like this. And the low price was astounding. My professional drummer friend (Arista records) was gobsmacked by them, too, and she's heard a few great monitors (speakers), too. Great purchase. EXCELLENT BOOKSHELF SPEAKERS

Crutchfield customer from Tucson, AZ on 3/14/2021

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

While these are bookshelf speakers, they produce like floor speakers which normally have more sound ports. Treble and bass are superb, again for bookshelf speakers, producing clear sounds. Size has a factor in these bookshelf speakers as they are larger than most others, and also carry more weight so as to provide a firm solid footing--no rumbling anywhere. The technical staff at Crutchfield are very knowledgeable about their product, and offer unbiased, objective and sound advice on selecting the item I was trying to find. I have a Denon receiver with excellent power and needed speakers that would carry that power--and they do without any stress, both at high and low volumes. I play mostly music through my computer, hooked up to the TV, so the audio visual experience is like being in a theater, without needing a surround sound system.

Pros: Excellent, clear sounds from both treble and bass.

Cons: Do not have a negative

I decided to get the RP160M model instead of the newer RP-600M mainly because of the great price Crutchfield was offering them at. The specs on both models are the same and I think the main difference was the tweeter and the way the speaker sits. I am a subsonic bass nut and have a basement theater configured for such house shaking events. For these, I wanted to hear good bass but not overwhelm the house as they are on the main floor den. I am very impressed with the range of sound that come out of these puppies. I only have these and a set of Klipsch surround speakers hooked up. No center channel, no sub. The sound is amazing! Very accurate highs and lows, and the dialog is even great. Don't expect to shake the foundation with these speakers, but they are very accurate and full sounding.

The overall look of the speakers is great. Very well made and solid. I have had about 15 hours of break in time. They sound better and better as they break in. They have good base and not the boom boom boom base. The 160M has amazing mid-range and high frequencies. I love that it is a more accurate portrail of the music with out too much enhancement. They are being pushed by a Carver 100 watt amp that handles them with minimal effort. I have them in a room with a pair of B&W speakers and they blend very well. The quality, five year warranty and price point of the speakers in my opinion is a winning combination. I will enjoy listening to them for years.

Pros: Price, Quality and Performance

Cons: Need space to keep them at least a foot off wall (rear port).

Good bookshelf speakers at great price but I missed enough bass. Accurate and clean sound. I listen to classical and jazz music. Not hooked up to a TV. I decide to trade up to a Monitor Audio Silver 100 at a considerably higher price because these are my main speakers. I bought these as they seemed to be a cheaper version of the 600m Klipsch. (the specs are quite similar) I wanted to compare them to the Elac UB5 speakers I purchased a year ago. The highs are more forward but overall the Elacs are a better sounding speaker. I now use these with my TV, replacing Def. Tech. speakers and hooked up to a Denon pma600 amp. I am quite pleased. I no longer have questions whether the Elacs were a smart purchase and the sound on my TV has never been better.

Great speaker; tight bass, especially for its size

Mike from O Fallon, IL on 2/7/2021

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Setting up a sound system for my office, I needed something small all the way around. I started with the Denon D-M41, available at Crutchfield. It's terrific, but the bass response of the included speakers was insufficiently tight, even when paired with a subwoofer (the Polk PSW-10, also available at Crutchfield). I tried an old pair of JBL J2050's, but had the same problem. After a chat with Lori (invaluable help, by the way), we came to the conclusion that I needed an efficient speaker, of course (30 watts per channel into 6 ohms for the Denon) and needed better impedance-matching. Thus, we came to the conclusion that the RP-160M could offer a good solution. Having just set it up, my early conclusion is "yes." My torture-test for bass response is Paul Chambers' bass-playing on "So What," the first track on "Kind of Blue." It sounds great on both the built-in CD player and LP (Beogram 1602 with an MMC-20CCL). Same for the bass-heavy track "The Changeling" on "LA Woman." The sound of the solo piano on Satie's "Gnossiennes" (Anne Quefelc) was clear and natural. The same is true for the sound of a string quartet (Quartetto Italiano on the Schubert Quartet in G). And the sound of an orchestra is something to behold; during the pizzicato section that opens the second movement of the Sibelius Second Symphony, you can feel the bass viol players plucking their strings. And on yet another torture test for bass reproduction - the pedal tones of the organ at the conclusion of

The speakers are great . The shipping from Crutchfield not so much. They will over ship for a screw driver but order speakers they ship it in the factory boxes . Like yeah stealing from people's curb is a problem but yet it's all flaunted here. Also my item had holes on the box and you can tell it was treated like crap. Luckily the speakers are fine but I will never order from Crutchfield again since they don't care about the shipping process for expensive speakers . But order a 3.00 screw driver expect the works in shipping. Huge box peanuts and all.

First really higher end set of speakers for me. Paired with a NAD C 316BEE. Sound is better than wearing most headphones I've ever tried, which is awesome. I had asked my Crutchfield advisor to help select something that would sound great and clear at not just mid-high volumes, but low as well and these speaker fit that bill. IMO, you really want to bring a system its knees pretty quickly, try out some modern orchestral, like a big movie soundtrack. Just wow. Haven't tried these out with movies yet, but looking forward to it!

Pros: Pretty incredible, balanced sound at all volume levels.

Cons: Pretty large for a bookshelf speaker.

Studio use.....

For the money, these are great sounding speakers. I am comparing them with what I have which are Alesis MKII (which are studio monitor flat response speakers). I plan on keeping both pairs for the studio because I wanted to be able to hear my completed songs with a higher end speaker without breaking the bank while using the Alesis to monitor my mixes. Now, for some, the bass may not be big enough but for what I am doing in the studio, that is not my biggest concern at the moment (although I will at some point, add a subwoofer). The low frequency driver is 6.5". If more bass is needed, pair them up with a subwoofer. These have clarity in the mid and upper frequencies that, like I said, are a nice upgrade from the Alesis (and the Alesis , for the money, are excellent as well). No review is complete w/o letting the reviewee know the type of music I am listening/writing and recording. Mostly rock , hard rock, classical guitar, acoustic rock, and moody rock i.e., Pink Floyd-like stuff (I am a guitarists). My own music is all of that. I listen at high volumes most of the time. At lower volumes, these speakers sound great as well. I am using a 100 watt ART studio amp to drive these at the present time.

Pros: Great price. Klipsch quality. Nice clarity in the Mid and upper frequencies.

Great performing large bookshelf speakers!

I bought a pair Open Box and when I received them I actually forgot they weren't brand new until after I set them up (they looked new and were packaged like new). I also own a pair of RP280Fs, RP450C, RP440C, RP150Ms, and R51s. These are pretty large bookshelf speakers and for bookshelfs they have a good deal of bass. For someone not wanting towers I feel as if they would work well with the RP450C. I compared them the RP280Fs and they are definitely not a replacement for them (the RP280Fs are quite the speaker IMO). If you are considering these speakers I believe there is very little difference between these and the current models and at the price they are selling these seem like a great deal (especially if you come across an open box). These speakers are a bit more neutral than the Klipsch Reference series. They are detailed but not harshly bright like the Klipsch Reference Series are. I highly recommend these speakers.

Pros: Great neutral sound, great bass for bookshelves, great pricing for last years models which perform like the current model

Cons: Very big for bookshelf speakers

I have had these speakers for over 2 months now and after extensive listening sessions and everyday use they are everything and more than I thought they would be. They are simply placed on the floor of our carpeted living room area on either side of our entertainment center. They are the the frontal full sound that you hear and compliments the full sound in our 7.2 system. We use a 5.2 system in our living room and use the other 2 channels for zone 2. I first did purchase the R-51 which are a great speaker but wanted a larger fuller sound and Crutchfield customer service was very helpful in helping me make the upgrade. Their no hassle return policy makes it very convenient for customers. These speakers are home with our family and we are so happy they perform for us daily!

Pros: Relative small to medium sized full sounding speaker Very nice angled MDF base plate for elevated image height Full tight mid-range and bass response Well built enclosure that compliments living area

Cons: I don't see where to use the banana plugs in the back of the speakers. Just have the bare speaker wire connected in the terminal and hand tightened the posts.

Not sure if its showing verified purchase or not, I needed help with checking out. I am running a Denon X something-another. Klipsch RF82II's front, RC82II's Center, two Klipsch 12s, 2 Klipsch 51s bookshelves, and now these complete my collection. Klipsch's efficiency puts them in another league thats all their own. You literally have to believe it, to understand it. But its so rich and powerful that its almost humbling . IF you are on the fence on a budget, like most of us, and want the absolute most bang for your buck. Look no further, Once you go Klipsch, you'll never go back

Pros: Incredible highs, rich mids, low low bass, very efficient, look great, ergonomic well made grills.

Had a great experience chatting with a Crutchfield advisor on various pros, cons, and alternatives to these speakers. Due to the pandemic I could not audition these speakers before purchasing them. However, the return policy made it low-risk, easy to order online and I could audition them in my house, my multi-purpose listening room, using my electronics. I'm using these in a 2.0 stereo setup in a medium sized room that's carpeted with standard 8ft tall ceilings. They are connected to a 90 watt per channel 6 ohm Sony AVR that is connected to my PC via optical cable. They are replacing smaller non-Klipsch bookshelf speakers. I had a concern that the horn-loaded speakers may be too harsh for long music listening sessions, but I read other reviews that claimed Klipsch had changed the Reference Premiere line (in this case, the RP-160M and current RP-600M) to not sound has harsh as earlier versions. I'm pleased to report that after many hours of listening to various play lists of rock, pop, classical, instrumental, movies, and games that the sound coming from these are AMAZING and I did not have any fatigue after multiple hour sessions. Comparing the RP-160Ms to the bookshelf speakers I had before is like night and day. In music, I'm hearing notes, details, and other sounds that just weren't present in the previous set. I'm enjoying these very much. If you're on the fence or haven't listened to Klipsch in a while, I'd recommend giving these a try.

Pros: -Magnetic covers make the look great with or without covers -High efficiency (not much power needed to drive these) -Great build quality, fit & finish are great -Size and Weight, they are substantial, don't feel flimsy, and there's sufficient MDF to provide support

Cons: -Size. The dimensions are listed on the site, but it's hard to imagine how large these "bookshelf" speakers are until you get them. They are about the size of a Micro-ATX PC tower or imagine taking the top ~2 ft of a floor standing speaker. It's a sizable footprint. -Weight. At nearly 20 lbs each, they are over weight for the 30" wooden speaker stands I had that only supported 15 lbs per speaker. I knew that going into it and they are placed on a desk, but it's important to point out.

Nice tonal character, sounds good with a wide variety of music, easy to drive, capable of loads of volume. Easily fills a 15 X 20 room. It does need a subwoofer however if you want to hear and feel below 45hz or so. It can be a bit directional with sound so placement experimentation if necessary. Nice looking, magnetized grill fit perfectly. Overall, great bang for the buck.

Pros: Easy to drive. Plays loud easily. Nice total character. Sounds good with a wide variety of music.

Cons: May need a subwoofer, depending on your tastes. Placement experimentation necessary.

Reviving my vintage stereo equipment with these speakers. They're hooked up to a Realistic STA 2000D receiver and sound fantastic. I'm playing albums on a Technics turntable, CDs on a Sony and hearing very clean sounding music. Why did I wait so long? Highly recommended speakers!

Pros: Very clear sounding highs and great bass.

Cons: A little too big for a bookshelf so I had to put them on stands.

I love these speakers! I am a blues & rock bass player and also enjoy listening to a wide range of music. The depth of sound and range of these speakers really work for me and my ears. I like it loud and clear and that I can feel the bass, and these speakers definitely deliver on that. Clean clear highs and lots of headroom too, like they always have more to give. A bit heavy at 19lbs, and on the large size of a footprint, but if you have the room, well worth it. I would recommend them for sure.

I try to do a lot if equipment reviews. On doing so I try to be clear and helpful. So, I seldom give 5 stars. Nothing's perfect. But the klipsch 160Ms are very close. So close I felt it unfair to drop them to 4 stars. They are really audibly better than many speakers I have heard at 4 stars. To begin with they are very nice looking. The Solid wood construction shows good craftsmanship especially on the corners. The horn shaped tweeter and the orange/gold colored bass are striking. They are slightly elevated toward the front by slim removable stands. But the real deal is the sound. First, there is a nice solid base. One could easily go without a sub woofer or other bass help. It never over powers the treble, but you always know it's there. The high end tweeter is great. Cymbals, and other high frequency sounds that are often lost or muddled through are easily reproduced. Stereo imaging is great as is the soundstage. I pushed the speakers to high volumes and they sound great. At low levels all is well. There is little or nothing to which to complain. They are pretty heavy. I put them on my stands rated for 24 lbs each. I would not go to a lower rated stand. And I used some anti slide rubber stick ons I placed on the stands. This greatly helped stability. In every aspect these are top speakers. Both sound and built are hard to beat, at their price level and probably beyond. Def

Pros: Great sound from bass and tweeter. Reproduction of sound is superb. I hear more at all levels. Great imaging and sound stage. And they look great with the solid wood construction, horn tweeter, and orange/gold colored bass. Obviously care was taken in construction.

Cons: Heavy. If used on stands be careful.

Excellent as front mains for my home theater system. They have a beautiful, crisp and detailed sound with voices, various movie sounds and music. I find them to be very dynamic but not harsh at all and of course, very efficient. In my opinion, they are not as warm as some speakers used primarily for music but are perfect for home theater. They are large bookshelf speakers and I have them each on a very well built steel stand using isolation pads between the speakers and the stand to minimize vibration.

Again for umpteenth time my experience with customer service was a pleasure. I called wanting to add a pair of bookshelf speakers to my office set up. Klipsch was my choice since I was familiar with their "sound" from years ago and needed confirmation that they would produce what I seemed to be missing with my current speakers. Nemo described the Klipsch difference and he was spot on perfect. Very satisfied and appreciative of his knowledge and patience. It turns out we listen to the same broad range of music which locked in my confidence of picking correctly. Looking forward to the next time I need help and advice. Awesome speakers! Match up perfect with my Marantz 2220B. First song played through them was Blue Sky from the Allmans Dreams box set. Then side one from Led Zep II followed by side one of Coltranes Live at Birdland and finished it up with side two of Pink Floyds Animals. Vinyl sounds so good through them, awesome highs, strong mids and more bass than I thought I would get. And the Marantz adds that warm overall tone. Very happy!

Pros: strong highs and deep lows

These replaced an RDL Trio in my office system after I hooked up a First Watt Aleph J which didn't provide enough power to the RDLs. Super clean mids and highs with tight bass. Very "alive" and beautiful sound with the Aleph J class A amp at 25 wpc. I mainly listen to classical chamber music, fifties jazz, but also some symphonic and rock. Clean and clear vocals, violins, clarinets, alto sax and even trumpets. Ditto percussion, guitars, pianos, string bass. I'm aware that the successor 600M model was highly rated in reviews, but I'm more than satisfied with these and glad I saved a bit of cash on them rather than springing for the later model.

Excellent large bookshelf speakers

Josip from Los Alamos, NM on 9/21/2020

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Solid, effortless sound from these efficient yet somewhat large bookshelf speakers (almost 20 lbs per speaker). The bass reflex port is in the back, so these should not be placed flush against a wall. These speakers are angled slightly upwards (see the attached base). Bi-amping is possible (1500 Hz crossover frequency between the 6.5" woofer and the horn tweeter, with 90 degree sound coverage) but I use a simple 2-channel receiver. The rated response is 43 Hz to 24 kHz, with excellent 95 dB sensitivity, 100 W nominal power handling. Somewhat bright sound and decent bass (optional subwoofer is not necessary for most music). Newer model RP-600M has a slightly improved horn tweeter, but RP-160M speakers sound very similar and cost a bit less. Overall, an excellent speaker system.

Pros: Good, effortless sound with most music

Cons: Should not be placed flush against the back wall

Nice sounding bookshelf speaker . There is an angled foot on the bottom of the speaker - it is removable for mounting on a stand - - couple of acres on the bottom . Better sounding then the 51m which I originally purchased and moved to the rear . As far as a front bookshelf speaker, I would highly suggest then .

Pros: Sound quality , magnetic screen, klipsch look of copper

These speakers sound much bigger than their size, and have a well balanced sound with the signature Klipsch high energy sound. They are large for a bookshelf, and when put on appropriate stands actually take up more real estate than the RP-5000 towers. I bought both, and in the end kept the 5000 towers, as they took up less space and had a bigger sound stage and better low end. Thanks to Crutchfield I was able to audition both in my home and pick the option that worked best for me.

Pros: Balanced, high energy sound, smooth high end and solid lows.

Cons: Much too large for a bookshelf for satellite setup.

Excellent speakers! After finally moving into my own space after years and years of living with room mates, I decided to mark the occasion by throwing down on a stereo/tv setup. After too many hours, and days, of research I decided to go after a set of Klipsch bookshelf speakers. I have a small space and needed speakers that could pull double duty for both my television entertainment center and record player without feeling like I was sacrificing anything for one over the other. I also did not have a giant budget to work with and that's where Crutchfield came in. There was a sale going on, and these RP160M's were going for a song. I was a little apprehensive as I read a lot about Klipsch and their harsh or exhausting highs, but any concern was put to rest after plugging them in and turning them up for the first time. I actually find them to be wonderfully balanced. Fatiguing highs?... not at all. As far as low end goes, it definitely shows up. I was waiting to get a sub until I heard these and got a feel for the sound, but now it's not necessary. The RP160s have a great low-end punch. I listen to everything, but primarily soul, jazz, afrobeat, and exotica. For tv viewing, excellent. Dialogue is prominent, Inception Bwwwwaaaaaahhhhs are strong, and subtle background noises in movies are clear. I'm not positive if these are still available as they are the previous model to Klipsch's RP600s. But I highly recommend these!

Pros: Dope Speakers

Cons: None

Klipsch is Great!

Love these speakers! I recently pulled my 1970s era Carver AV100 receiver off a basement shelf to be be the centerpiece of re-establishing a 2 channel stereo system. I had recently bought a pair of vintage Realistic speakers at a garage sale. They were surprisingly good but a little muddled for 3 ways with 8" woofers. I'm sure the crossovers needed replaced but the speakers were great for what little I had invested. Knowing the Carver with its Sonic Holography circuitry offered so much more with better speakers I decided to upgrade. I originally was looking at the Klipsch RP-600M but saw that Crutchfield had their predecessor on sale for substantially less money. I quickly ordered a pair before they disappeared. They arrived in a few days. I was immediately blown away by the clarity, openness and defined bass of these little powerhouses. I found I am hearing details in songs I never noticed on any of my other speakers (I have 3 audio system in our house). Klipsch delivers great sound for such a modest investment.

Pros: Relatively small in size with sound rivaling tower speakers!

Cons: A slight bump in bass response would make these speakers almost perfect.

These sound like $1000 speakers. Great value at this price. The sound is very detailed, bass is tight and powerful, and they are much more beautiful than the photos show. Excellent quality all around.

Pros: Clean sound, great looks.

I've owned Klipsch for 20 years and recently upgraded everything to a 12" subwoofer , floor speakers with 8" woofers, and now these RP 160M's in the rear from quintet satelites. With a Yamaha amp this system has crystal clear sound, bass that shakes the walls and goes through your chest, and a pure sound that doesn't hurt your ears with distortion at a higher volume level. I have a large family room that can take it! Klipsch will not disappoint and is worth the extra money. My movie experience keeps me from that over-priced popcorn at the theater as well! Thanks for the sale, Crutchfield...I'll be back!

Really pleased with these speakers. I was originally looking at the the RP-600M, but these sounded almost identical -- and perhaps a bit better in my opinion -- for fewer $$. After years of buying budget speakers that always seemed a bit "muddy" to me, I am really enjoying actively listening to music again through the RP-160s. They reveal unbelievable detail and clarity, and their sound stage makes it easy to pick out each instrument in the mix. They are much cleaner in the upper-mids and treble end than other speakers I have owned, though not overly bright to my ears. Cymbal hits and guitars are especially lifelike. Vocals are forward and clear, but I wouldn't call them warm. Bass is tight. I should add that live music is my reference point for judging speakers and, for my money, these Klipsch come closer to the feel of a live performance than any other speaker I have owned. I also want to give kudos to Crutchfield for the "speaker compare" feature on their website. It enabled me to audition a lot of highly praised speakers to find the ones that suited my tastes. FWIW - my source material is mostly FLAC streamed from an NAS to Denon AVR-S920W (Stereo, L/R Bypass, Dynamic EQ on).

Pros: Clear, precise sound; well built; incredible value

Cons: On the large side for bookshelf speakers

I bought these as a replacement for my 22+ year old M5 Series Polk Audio speakers that were being used in my garage "man cave" that had finally gave out. They served me well but it was time for an upgrade. And what an upgrade these Klipsch RP-160M's are! Highly efficient, detailed, and clean sounding. Well pronounced bass as well. Excellent choice if you're considering a book shelf speaker. Highly recommended.

These things sound great. I got an excellent deal on them as Crutchfield was trying to unload a discontinued product. I'm not sure why they were discontinued, they are simply amazing speakers. I had them by themselves as stereo speakers for my turntable for a while, while I assembled my HT system. Now I have the HT system put together and am running these as my mains. Superb. Music is superb. Movies are superb. If you can get these for a deal before they all dissapear, grab them and don't worry about regretting it. A one.

Due to health issues it took me awhile to set these up BUT when I did WOW... Do these sound good! Wish I could have done a direct compare with my old floor speakers, but if memory serves, the RP160M's first impression was "a cut above". The larger driver has even allowed me to back off my sub woofer a bit. The physical size is perfect for me, nice and tall, when place along side the TV they hide all the cords (HDMI, etc). They are quite stylish (I like the looks with or w/o the covers and their heavy too, not about to move around on their own. The special price was fantastic ... good old Crutchfield has come through for me once again!!

The Klipsch RP-160 punches well above its price point. The speaker's efficiency lends itself to a wide range of receivers / amps. While they take up far less space than the towers they replaced, the 160s offer nearly all the performance. For movies, an accompanying subwoofer is a nice adjunct to experience lower frequencies.

Never would have purchased these Klipsch speakers if not from recommendation from Crutchfield. They are not tinny (like older generation Klipsch) and do a great job (for their size) in reproducing both music and TV sound. Have them connected to old generation Onkyo receiver (vintage 80's) and they sound better than I expected. Have not experienced any ear fatigue even after listening for hours during the day. Also have these speakers next to the TV on a credenza, and have not experienced any issues with TV. Good choice, especially for the price!

Pros: Good overall sound reproduction both for TV and music. For music, listen to classic rock, blues, soul and easy listening. Easy to connect and use.

Cons: None at this price!

I love these speakers, I went in to the Crutchfield showroom and was deciding between these and some KEFs but I end up getting these. I like the forward sound and they are very efficient. My 200 watt receiver can drive them easily and I do have a subwoofer with them but they have a decent low end, so I use the subwoofer mostly to round out the low frequencies. These are being discontinued in favor of the rp600m but if there are close in sound to these then I would recommend them.

Pros: Detail ( definition of instruments' sound ) and clarity. The sound stage is impressive and you can pin point exactly where everyone is playing.

Cons: They are large so if you don't have a lot of space to set them up on it could be a problem. I listen to these exclusively for music, so I have no idea how they sound for movies.

If you're waffling on these speakers, then just pick up a pair. They are a great addition to a home theater setup, however, they are a bit larger than they appear. Stands are a touch difficult to find for these speakers. Functionally, they sound fabulous. Great low notes and clear high notes. I use them currently as a stereo set with intentions of transitioning them into rear channels. Aesthetically, "I give 'em a ten!"

Alright..Alright..Alright.. These RP-160M speakers are Ah-mazing. They bring the system to a wonderful 7.2.4 configuration. I have them placed as Front L&R speakers. Bi-wired off an Onkyo TX-RZ730. With a RP-404C Complimenting them. I chose the RP-160M over the RP-600M for a few reasons (money, money and money) They were heavily discounted at the time I wrote this review. 2) the Open Box discount made them even more affordable. 3) I selected basic ground shipping. An saved another $20 dollars. Lastly, add Crutchfield reward dollars... and these became an incredible Value of an Amazing sounding set of speakers. The look of the RP-160 is a bit different from the RP-600M. The angled looking base most notably. The Klipsch logo's are in different locations. On both the magnetic grills. And, the front of the speakers, under the grill. The RP-160 lacks the new copper colored rings. Trivial little things... that don't effect sound quality. The RP-160M's are a few pounds heavier too. All that said, I sit here like a, " Is it Live? or Memorex?" commercial. Hair blowing in the wonderful highs of the 1" titanium tweeter. While the 6 1/2" copper woofer pounds out the mid's. A few exterior differences. But, internally the same...same. I would be hard pressed to tell the difference between these speakers in a blind taste test. Somehow, the RP-160M Seems SWEETER. Not only to me... but, my wallet. (insert cheesy ear to ear Grin!) And that's, "No Bulls**t!"

Pros: Incredible sound to cost value.

The fit and finish of these bookshelf speakers is great. The sound is clear and without distortion even when my older Sony STR-DH510 receiver is at max. Music (mostly instrumental) comes across clear and warm when coupled with my sub. I left music playing for almost 3 days straight to help them speed up the break in time and didn't have any issues. I am using them as front speaker for my home theater set up (3.1 at the moment) and will move them to the rear when I get the matching towers in the future. Dialog from movies sounds natural and clear. Coming from bose cubes to these bookshelf speakers is like night and day! The Klipsch RP-160M are in a different league and I could never go back to those little guys again. I couldn't be happier with my purchase! Crutchfield shipping was quick and I had them hooked up and running withing 2 days of purchase.

I bought these speakers, nearly 4 months ago. I wanted to have them for enough time to give a fair review. And, I absolutly love em! Before owning these, I have never owned a pair of speakers with such clairty and rich sound. I am hearing instruments and notes I have never heard befoe, in some of my favorite songs. I find it hard to believe anyone could hear these and not be impressed. I am extremely happy with this purchase. I can't wait until I can save up enough money to get the other Klipsch speakers I want, to complete my 5.2 surround system. It might take me a year, but I only want Klipsch.

Pros: Sound, quality, and price.

Cons: None at all, for me.

Are Klipsch Speakers Overrated?

LBrize from Logan, WV on 10/6/2019

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I've always not been in the Klipsch camp; they use horn tweeters that always sounded too forward, too harsh. Almost like PA speakers in the house. Well, I was basing that on literally 30 year old Klipsch demos back when stereo shops were plentiful and everyone wanted huge, awesome sound in their homes (80s and early 90s). Turns out, the praise I have heard about Klipsch over the past 4-5 years is most assuredly deserved. After all, a Klipsch got speaker of the year by a prominent reviewer in 2019. To me, Klipsch has always been known as a rock speaker; a loud speaker, with loud tweeters. The RP-160 took mere moments to completely turn my opinion around. I tried some rock and yeah they do fine, but..wow; our listening room came alive on jazz and classical high-res music played through these speakers, like a layer of fog, a thick muddy muck, was lifted and the sound became more open, full, accurate, big, and everything was placed in its exact location on the soundstage. Going from the Elac UB5 to these, to me, resulted in such a more cohesive, complete sound that transported me to just a few rows back at the old jazz club in town. The Elacs are wonderful speakers that I am very happy to also own, but the bass, mids and even the highs just seem to sound better on the Klipsch. Another advantage is the apparent size of the sound. They are a bit larger for bookshelf models, but the sphere of sound created belies their meager footprints. These are magical lit

Pros: Accurate soundstage and presentation of instruments and voices. Can sound big and open or small and cozy; great sounding speakers! Performs well beyond the "high-end" threshold...these would be at home in any hi-fi shop!

Cons: A little large for some bookshelves, need to be away from back wall for best sound (sound fine on stands a bit out from wall). Plenty loud, but power handling rating a tad low for those with high-powered amps.

I have been wanting a set Klipsch speakers for a while. These fit my bill big time. I purchased a pair of the RP-160M speakers and a Niles 2100 amp to push them. Not an audiophile setup but works good for my taste. Great clear sound and I hear a lot from my hi-res audio files.

Pros: Great stability and clarity

Cons: None

Nice speaker for a smaller room. Best with a sub for overall performance.

Pros: Compact size with big sound

Cons: Washes out with carpets or in larger rooms

I'm very happy I purchased these speakers. They sound great. The price and Crutchfield Service was super. Matched these with my Yamaha stereo RN-803 receiver and my Klipsch wireless 10" sub. I am amazed at how good it sounds without needing to crank up the volume.

These speakers have the same specs as the 600 M (The audiophilic's speaker of the year )with the exception of the sensitivity rating which is down by one DB And at149 dollars less,I couldn't pass it up!

Very good value based on price paid. Perform best at higher volume settings.

Pros: Good looks, good value

Cons: Need to play them at increased volume levels to get the most out of them.
