Klipsch Reference Premiere RP-600M bookshelf speaker

Each Reference Premiere RP-600M bookshelf speaker features a horn-loaded tweeter for ultra-smooth highs.

Hybrid horn technology for dynamic performance

Horn technology is one of Klipsch's long-standing hallmarks. Flared openings in the speaker cabinet project sound waves toward your listening area and prevent them from simply spilling out in all directions. This design reduces reflections that can color the sound, and boosts dynamics and efficiency for powerful, "front row" sound that remains crystal-clear at all volume levels.

Klipsch's Tractrix® horn features a circular throat around an advanced titanium diaphragm tweeter that transitions into a square 90º x 90º mouth. This unique shape provides a cleaner, more efficient transition of sound waves into your listening space. The result is a wide listening "sweet spot" with precise placement of instruments and vocals.

A horn that enhances bass, too

Take a look at the back of these speakers and you'll find that instead of the conventional round port tube found on many speakers, Klipsch uses a Tractrix horn-shaped opening for smoother, more efficient airflow in and out of the cabinet. The resulting decrease in air turbulence makes for cleaner, more powerful bass with reduced port noise and low-frequency distortion.

Because these speakers are rear-ported, I recommend pulling them away from your wall or the back of the bookshelf to give them room to "breathe."

Bi-amp or bi-wire for even better sound

On the back of each speaker you'll find two sets of speaker input terminals. These let you bi-amp or bi-wire your RP-600Ms to get the best sound out of them.

Features

1" Horn-Loaded Tweeter: The Klipsch RP-600M bookshelf loudspeaker features a 1" Titanium LTS Vented Tweeter with a Hybrid Tractrix Horn for exceptional high frequency response, detail, and dispersion. Klipsch proprietary Tractrix horn-loaded technology ensures high-frequency energy of the RP-600M bookshelf speakers are aimed directly at the listener and reduces unwanted, artificial reverb caused by indirect sound bouncing off walls - meaning you experience the most clear, detailed, lifelike sound possible.

  • Titanium LTS Vented Tweeter: The titanium tweeter diaphragm's light weight yet rigid composition exceeds the performance of aluminum, polymer or silk tweeters. A vented tweeter design reduces standing waves behind the tweeter diaphragm for a smoother high frequency reproduction. Klipsch award-winning Linear Travel Suspension technology leverages a piston motion of the titanium diaphragm that lowers distortion and delivers real-to-life sound. A ceramic magnet housing provides premium performance,
  • Hybrid Tractrix Horn Technology: This redesigned 90°x90° Hybrid Tractrix Horn utilizes a circular horn throat paired to a square horn mouth to further improve high-frequency response and extension, while enhancing imaging and dynamics. The Hybrid Tractrix Horn's compressed molded silicon face adds high frequency damping to reduce harshness and horn resonance for a smoother frequency response with improved detail - creating a clean and natural sound. Klipsch also utilizes computer modeled phase plugs that act as a mechanical filter to further ensure a smooth, flat frequency response while protecting the tweeter from damage.

6.5" Cerametallic Woofer: The RP-600M bookshelf loudspeaker utilizes a 6.5" Klipsch Proprietary Cerametallic woofer. Cerametallic consists of extremely light, rigid materials that can hold shape while being able to deliver lower frequencies with maximum efficiency. The Klipsch Cerametallic cone is matted to a dual-layer, copper-wound voice coil for exceptional conductivity. The 6.5" woofer is housed in a non-resonating, stamped-steel basket that's secured to a large magnet motor for exceptional efficiency and low distortion.

Rear Tractrix Port: The rear Tractrix port of the RP-600M bookshelf loudspeaker is perfectly matched to the cabinet and woofer, creating ideal airflow with minimal distortion and turbulence even at the lowest frequencies. Klipsch Tractrix ports have custom designed inner flares that help reduce air turbulence entering the port. Less turbulent air helps reduce port noise for cleaner, more powerful bass.

MDF Cabinet: The Klipsch RP-600M bookshelf speaker features a MDF cabinet with a scratch-resistant, textured wood grain vinyl that seamlessly integrates into almost any room or decor. The enclosure's reinforced MDF construction reduces cabinet vibration for less audible coloration and improved sonic accuracy. The MDF enclosure also features a satin painted baffle with a scratch resistant design for an elegant look without the grille.

Acoustically Transparent Grille: The Klipsch RP-600M bookshelf loudspeaker comes with a removable, black cloth grille that is magnetic and acoustically transparent. This strong magnetic grille provides protection and a sleek aesthetic look to compliment your home's decor.

Dual Binding Posts: The Klipsch RP-600M is fitted with two sets of sturdy binding posts allowing to bi-amp or bi-wire the bookshelf loudspeaker. These binding posts ensure a secure connection to many types of cable and connectors. The binding post terminals will accept banana plugs (single only), pin-connectors, spade-lugs and bare wire (up to 10AWG). Two plastic caps will need to be removed to use banana plugs.

  • Bi-Wiring: Bi-wiring can provide noticeable improvements in the overall transparency of your loudspeakers. Run separate speaker wires to the low & high frequency drivers from a single amplifier (the upper set of binding posts are for the high frequency drivers; the lower set of binding posts are for the low frequency drivers).
  • Bi-Amping: Bi-amping allows you to use separate amplifiers for the high & low frequency sections of your loudspeaker for greater dynamic range & lower distortion. We recommend that your separate amplifiers have identical gain to preserve the speaker's voicing balance.
Note: If you decide to bi-wire or bi-amp, you must remove the jumpers between the terminal posts (failure to do this could result in damage to your amplifier and loudspeakers).

Mounting Options: The Klipsch RP-600M can be placed on a speaker stand, bookshelf, table, or other flat surface. The bookshelf loudspeaker comes with self-adhesive rubber feet to secure the speaker in place and prevent any damage to your stand's or shelf's surface. The rubber feet add approximately 0.125" to the overall height of the speaker.

Note: There are no included brackets, keyhole slots, or threaded inserts to wall-mount the speaker.

Application & Placement: The Klipsch RP-600M bookshelf loudspeaker can be used in a dedicated stereo application or in a home theater application as front and/or rear speakers.

  • Front Placement: For optimum performance in a stereo application or as front speakers in a home theater application, Klipsch suggests placing the loudspeakers 6' to 15' apart. They may also be toed-in slightly for better stereo imaging. The listening position should be about 1 to 1.5x the distance separating the speakers.
  • Rear Placement: When used as surround speakers in a home theater setup, the loudspeakers should be placed approximately 2' above the listening position. Typically this will be approximately 5' to 7' above the floor. The surrounds should be placed on the walls directly adjacent to the listening position. Another option would be on the wall behind the listening position.

Reference Premiere Series: The Klipsch Reference Premiere series utilizes a redesigned hybrid 90°x90° Tractrix Horn, a vented LTS titanium tweeter, Cerametallic woofer construction, and Tractrix geometry port technology for sound that will envelope you and blow you away. The Reference Premiere series by Klipsch consists of a variety of floorstanding, bookshelf, center, and surround speakers (all sold separately). Click on the Accessories Tab to find more Reference Premiere series speakers for your home system.

Optional Powered Sub: For bigger & deeper bass response, pair the Klipsch Reference Premiere series loudspeaker with one of Klipsch's powered subwoofers (sold separately - click on Accessories Tab).

Q
Is my Yamaha R-N602 85 watt reliever a good fit for this speaker?
[ Richard  Aug 13, 2020 ]
4 answers
A
They are very sensitive and agile speakers. I listen to them everyday for one to three hours a day 85 watts should be more than ample.
[ miles  Aug 27, 2020 ]
A
Yes!These speakers are very efficient.Your Yamaha will sound great with these speakers.
[ stephen  Aug 13, 2020 ]
A
The RP 600m is a very versatile speaker. If you already have the Yamaha you will be fine. Remember the more power the better. I am not saying this for volume because the Klipsch will get loud with very little wattage, but more in terms of headroom. They are efficient but they like power as well.
[ Michael  Aug 13, 2020 ]
A
Absolutely These are incredible speakers that totally belie their size These along with a subwoofer make a great system Your Yamaha will shine
[ Richard  Aug 13, 2020 ]
Q
Can you place these on their sides or do they need to be used with horn on top?
[ Carl  Aug 12, 2020 ]
4 answers
A
I never tried them on their side and returned them after deciding I didn't like the sound at all.
[ joachim  Aug 12, 2020 ]
A
These would work on their sides, but you may sacrifice some sound quality as they were meant to be positioned with the woofer below the tweeter and with the tweeter at ear-level when seated. I suppose, if you can get the tweeter at ear-level, the speakers being on their sides might not be a big deal.
[ CALE  Aug 12, 2020 ]
A
I haven't experimented with side placement of the Klipsch, preferring an upright position due to space constraints and my own aesthetic sense. One of the advantages of bookshelf-sized speakers is the flexibility to place any way you want. Sonically it would make little difference. Go for it!
[ Gary  Aug 12, 2020 ]
A
You can place them in either configuration. They provide rubber stick on feet that can be applied to any side. I have them on their sides and they sound great.
[ Ray  Aug 12, 2020 ]
Q
Can you describe the specific "scratch/dent" damage that is the reason for the discounted price?

Q
How would these speakers perform ON a bookshelf? Or, do they need to be on floor stands? Thanks!
[ Jason  May 22, 2019 ]
11 answers
A
A bookshelf would be a perfect stand. You just need something that won't easily move.
[ MARY  Aug 12, 2020 ]
A
They work just fine on a bookshelf or entertainment center
[ James  Sep 27, 2019 ]
A
I have mine on 24 inch stands about 3 feet from the back wall and they sound great like that, even in the kitchen. ?? Open floorplan you know!
[ Steve  Jun 02, 2019 ]
A
Mine are on the top of my kitchen cabinets and they fill the kitchen with sound. Don't think you need floor stands.
[ STEVE  May 23, 2019 ]
A
Either would be fine, check the dimensions for bookshelf placement. I plan to use wall-mount brackets...
[ William  May 23, 2019 ]
A
Perfect for a book shelf. Killer speaker set up!
[ Pete  May 22, 2019 ]
A
Great on a bookshelf! I have them on stands and a friend has them on a bookshelf and they sound fantastic.
[ Michael W.  May 22, 2019 ]
A
This pair is intended for bookshelves. I have a pair on bookshelves and I love the sound of them.
[ MARY  May 22, 2019 ]
A
My Klipsch RP-600M sit nicely on top of a deeper bookshelf. You do want to make sure the shelf is deep enough, because the speakers are larger than they appear. The large port for air flow on the back of the speakers means you want to make sure there is space between the speaker and the wall. So far these speakers have performed beyond my expectations and sound great on top of my shelf.
[ Joshua  May 22, 2019 ]
A
Tradition gives these speakers the "bookshelf" moniker, albeit they don't belong on a bookshelf. These speakers benefit by having room to breathe. YMMV, but in my room, they are off the back wall by about 18", and are on stands that compliment my listening position.
[ Mark  May 22, 2019 ]
A
They're ported in the back so they shouldn't really be enclosed in a bookshelf.
[ Randal  May 22, 2019 ]

Q
Do I have to Bi Wire the Klipsch rp 600 m? Or can I just run one + and one - to my vintage receiver? Can I just use two of the 4 terminals?
[ Michael  Sep 02, 2020 ]
4 answers
A
no need to bi-wire.
[ jeff  Sep 02, 2020 ]
A
Yes, you can use just two terminals. There is a post connecting bar included that bridges the two - and + posts (on each speaker) for this very purpose. If you want to connect an additional amp, you'd remove the connecting bar.
[ Danny  Sep 02, 2020 ]
A
Yes. That's how most users do it. It comes ready to use with just one pair of wires, from the factory. Just leave the "straps" in place, and it will work as you intend.
[ JimInMedina  Sep 02, 2020 ]
A
By default it is jumpered and only requires 2 wires.
[ David  Sep 02, 2020 ]
Q
What's the deal with the staggered binding posts? It looks weird and seems like it would increase the chances that someone would hook them up incorrectly.
[ Patrick  Apr 30, 2020 ]
4 answers
A
I thought it a little odd too but I had no problem with getting them going and, MAN, do they go!!
[ Jerry  May 20, 2020 ]
A
There are two sets of bindings posts for Biamping. Where you can hook up one amplifier to drive the treble, and a second to drive the bass. They are clearly color coded and if you only use one amp. It's straight forward. One red one black. If you use two Amplifiers yo need to remove the connector strip and then use on of each color per amplifier. I have multiple Amplifiers but I have never biamped mine. I use vintage Amplifiers just my preference. You can look up Biamping and see if it's for you but they sound good hooked up conventionally. There is a break in period for these speakers and I also recommend to try different distances from the wall it makes a lot of difference in sound. Fun speakers.
[ Gerald  May 20, 2020 ]
A
Staggered binding posts are in fact a feature. It is much easier to route and connect heavy gauge wires. If a user is confused by black and red, well, I don't know what to say. Further, once I connected the speaker wires, I tend to see the speakers from the front. Red to +, black to -. Leave the straps on unless you are bi-wiring or bi-amping, in which case you will appreciate the layout even more.
[ JimInMedina  May 19, 2020 ]
A
Patrick, I'm not sure why they're staggered (perhaps to reduce the risk of a short circuit) but they are color coded in standard red/black so easy to hook up correctly. The speakers are terrific (the reviewers were right), highly recommended. Chip
[ Hiram  May 19, 2020 ]
Q
What is the suggested speaker stand height for the Klipsch rp-600M?
[ Jeff  May 26, 2019 ]
8 answers
A
According to the Stereophile Mag it is 24"
[ Hans  Jun 05, 2019 ]
A
I suggest about 60 inches, great crisp sound, I love them
[ John  Jun 04, 2019 ]
A
I would say between 24" and 30" depending on your chair height when you are listening. My stands are around 21 inches and I kept slouching in my chair get my ears lower.
[ joachim  Jun 03, 2019 ]
A
3 to 4 feet. Mine are sitting on older speakers at this time
[ Shawn  Jun 03, 2019 ]
A
I tried the old advice to have the tweeter at ear level and found that it worked best for us in our listening room. This required us to flip the speakers upside down on our 30 inch stands.
[ William  Jun 03, 2019 ]
A
Hi Jeff, I'm using a 24 inch stand and it puts the tweeters right at ear level while sitting on my couch.
[ Steve  Jun 02, 2019 ]
A
I utilize these as my front speakers for a 5.1 home theater setup. They are placed at ear level about 10 ft apart while seating down. When playing music they fill my room.
[ Robert  Jun 02, 2019 ]
A
Depends on how high you seat! I'd say 24in high stands are ideal.
