Plenty of sound and bass for my 12x20 room. The setup was pretty easy when paired with a Yamaha RX-V4A. Surprised at the amount of bass from the sub. The point that these little speakers will sound better after breaking them in is absolutely truth. Very bright at first but they have really broken in nicely for nice clear sound. If you need to have small speakers so your room doesn't look like a studio, you can't go wrong. Replaced a 25 yr old Bose system. The sound out of these is so much more clear and has fuller depth.
Pros: Size, sound
Cons: None

Fantastic for a medium sized room. Mounted the satellite speakers about 6 feet off the floor and the center channel is mounted about 2 feet off the floor. The room is filled with more sound than I know what to do with. I highly recommend this system.
Pros: sounds outstanding plenty of sound outstanding value

Good center and surround speakers subwoofer is weak.
Crutchfield customer from Tacoma, WA on 12/21/2021
Great Quality, excellent high end, short on the subwoofer. I had some issues with getting the subwoofer to work with My Denon AVR S760H. The reviews state that the subwoofer will skate across wood floors. I do not have that issue as my subwoofer seems to be very underpowered. I have mine on a carpet and even tried putting a very large book under the subwoofer without getting any better performance. I will more than likely purchase a separate subwoofer. I also used EQ to tone down the very bright mid range and high notes and now the sound is quite nice. The quality and feel of the speakers is quite good, the surround speakers are quite heavy for their size. My set up is in a small room and works quite well excepting the sub par subwoofer which needs to be at 75% but which causes a muddy and mediocre sound with no real punch.
Pros: Look and feel very good, speakers work well with some EQ tweaking
Cons: Very weak subwoofer.

Glad I upgraded
Ian from ROSWELL, NM on 11/29/2021
I upgraded to these speakers from a 20 year old set of MTX speakers. They were still working great but bulky for the room they were in and a bit overkill as well. I paired them with Polk RC80i speakers in the ceiling for Atmos and an Onkyo TX-NR7100 Receiver. I was a bit worried going with such a small speaker as I was unsure they would deliver. My worries were completely assuaged after just 10 minutes of taking these babies for a test drive after the configuration was completed. These speakers are amazing. They put out a lot of sound for my 18' x 15' room. The sound is very accurate and life like. The highs are crisp and that little 8 inch subwoofer delivers quite a punch. I mainly watch movies, TV and listen to music on these speakers and am quite happy with their performance in all three respects. Crutchfield delivered on time and in perfect condition as usual.

Great value
Crutchfield customer from Boise, ID on 9/26/2021
I've had Definitive Technology speakers for 30 years and already have a 7.2.2 system in my living room with Atmos and two discrete subwoofers using a Denon receiver (105 watts per channel). This 5.1 system for a separate room was among the cheapest and as much as I needed since the room, which doubles as a pool hall, limits enhancements. For a projection system (108" screen) I mounted all of these speakers between 8 and 9 feet high (out of the way of pool players under dubious influence), with the subwoofer under a table towards the back of the room. It's powered by a Denon AVR-S650H with 75 watts/channel. This system blows me away. The quality of the sound is thrilling and one doesn't miss the Atmos or extra surround channels or discrete subwoofers when immersed in a movie. I swear by Denon's Audyssey sound calibration, and these Def Tech speakers are as much as I needed and money well spent. The only enhancement I could recommend is a second subwoofer, but that could be said of any 5.1 system.
Pros: High quality sound for not a lot of money; good looking speakers; easy placement options
Cons: Small subwoofer

Replaced a recently broken, for the 2nd time Bose Acoustimass 10 system bass module failure, that came with the home. Sounds fantastic, way more depth than the Bose mini cube speakers. Well worth the price. Sub is plenty for small-medium size room. Hung the left right front using the screwhole mount and the rear pair on Monoprice speaker mounts to aim them into the room.
Pros: Great home theater sound for the price Subwoofer is strong for its small footprint. Multiple mounting options for wall hanging
Cons: Wall mount hardware not included

At first, I thought the sound was too bright. But after recalibrating the Denon receiver, it sounds prefect for my TV/BluRay application. The Denon was used to drive a Klipsch speaker system with full range floor towers.

CJD 2020 5.1 DEF Tech
Crutchfield customer from Spring, TX on 11/15/2020
Center speaker carry's a lot of the load and plays very clearly. Surround (5.1) is Perfect. This entire set up is great for my room. It's about 21' Deep and 15' wide 10' high. Very full sound. Each speaker weighed more than I expected (which was a nice surprise) The sub....it absolutely cranks! Will shake every house around you (not recommended for a shared wall living space) only thing that could be improved with the Sub - add suction cups to the feet as this thing will run across your room. LOT more power here than I was expecting. Overall solid 4.8 speaker system. Only regret - I should have purchased sooner!
Pros: Small speakers - mount easy - sub volume knob is a nice touch!
Cons: Subs runs across the room - needs some type of rubber underneath or something heavy on top.

This surround set has really brought life to my small listening room. I'm still tweaking the system for the sound I like, but I have already spent hours listening to music and hearing things I haven't before. Crutchfield support was important in at first selecting the right product that fit my needs and budget, and then later in getting the setup right. It's been great so far and it's fun going for a precise sound.

My Def Tech 6D system has been set up for a week (still running wire to Satellite speakers) and the system is great. With the advice of Crutchfield (Lane) I have exactly the audio I wanted. I made a mistake on the order with the wireless component(s) for the subwoofer and Customer Service (Athena ?) identified the problem and assisted in getting the correct components that was shipped and received in the next day. The technical expertise and customer service assistance is outstanding. They have made me a lifetime customer.
Pros: Technical expertise & assistance Customer Service second to none After order follow up

Solid entry level system with a fair subwoofer
David from NAVARRE, FL on 6/4/2020
I'm rating these 4 stars though I returned them. I found them too bright for my liking. String instruments sounded tinny but they worked great for surround and height speakers. The subwoofer is fair. On tile it jumped around and I had to weigh it down and lower the volume. The center channel did excellent for such a small speaker. In all, I would recommend these for a small to medium size room where space is an issue. The sub will not fill a large room. If you want a great sub, try the SVS prime system. I powered them off a Marantz 5014 with a Boston Acoustics front stage and a Velodyne 10" sub. In all it's a great entry level system, just be sure you have the power to push them and a smaller room if you aren't running another sub
Pros: Cost, size, excellent bang for the buck
Cons: Too bright for me, sub is weak

Perfect for my small game room (13' x 18'). The optional pivot wall mounts are well worth the money, allowing you to better position/direct sound. Bass is adequate. Visually, the piano finish is a solid touch.

Crutchfield customer from Delray Beach, FL on 5/10/2020
Im giving this three stars for two reasons. 1. The speakers are very 'bright" they are not very full sounding for music. However, if you are looking for something which sounds loud and bright for movie special effects, these will do the job nicely but that brings me to my second point. 2. The subwoofer is powerful at 250 watts and packs a solid punch, but because it does not weigh very much bass heavy special effects cause it to walk/bounce itself across the floor! I don't think this would be a problem if it was placed on carpet, but between its light weight and tiny feet it just won't stay in place, you have to weigh it down.
Pros: Great for movies and sound tracks, loud, bright lots of base.
Cons: Too bright for music only listening, subwoofer bounces itself cross the hard tile floor, creating a vibrating rattling sound as the cabinet jumps up and down. You have to weight down if used on a hard floor.

Sometimes problems are not with the new equipment!!!
Crutchfield customer from Shorewood, IL on 4/8/2020
The finish on the speakers is great. The system is very easy to install and set up. I had a problem to start with of which my receiver not recognizing the subwoofer but found out with the assistance of one of Crutchfield's great techs that the problem was some setting in my receiver was causing the problem. The tech had me do a factory reset on my receiver and then all was good. The speakers sound very good.

Amazing Sound
Dave from Cicero, NY on 10/21/2019
Had a Samsung Dolby Atmos sound bar that cos $1000 2 years ago. Spent so much time trying to dial it in and with tech support my frustration level had reached its limits. Sound effects were great, but the dialogue was always hard to understand and never clear. Decided to go a different route away from sound bars. Bought these yesterday with an Elite Pioneer receiver. Got it all placed and wired up, performed receiver setup with microphone attached that samples your listening room, and played a movie with sound effects and dialogue at the same time. All I can say is, WOW!! What incredible sound. The dialogue was crystal clear as the surround effects were immersive, but not obnoxious. Turned volume up to almost halfway and it more than filled out 15'x20' room. These speakers knock it out of the park for crystal clear sound quality. 5 Stars, 2 thumbs up. Highly recommend, especially if you want state of the art sound without breaking the bank!
Pros: Sound Quality Clear Concise Dialogue Immersive Surround
Cons: Zero
