Features

Soft Clipping: NAD's Soft Clipping circuit gently limits the output of the C 275BEE to minimize audible distortion when the amplifier is over-driven. While Soft Clipping can be left on at all times to reduce the likelihood of audible distortion from excessive volume settings, you can also turn the circuit off for critical listening if you prefer.

Bridgeable: The C 275BEE can be bridged to a single channel, more than doubling the power output. When bridged, the minimum recommended speaker impedance is 8Ω.

A/B Speaker Terminals: The amplifier features A & B speaker terminals to power two pair of loudspeakers. The amplifier supports 4Ω speakers when only one pair is connected, however, when two pair of speakers are connected a minimum impedance of 8Ω is recommended.

Input Select: A switch on the rear panel allows you to set the input to Fixed or Variable. In the fixed position the input signal is routed directly to the amplifier; typically used in single amp systems, or when multiples of the same amp are used. The variable position allows you to adjust the input level before amplification, useful when matching output levels in a multi-amp system, bi-amping speakers, or extending the volume control range of the preamp.

Auto Turn-on: The C 275BEE can be turned on automatically one of two ways; +12 volt trigger from another component or by sensing an input signal.

Controls

Rear Panel:

  • Input Select: choose Fixed or Variable (variable allows volume adjustment using the Input Level dial)
  • Input Level: rotary dial; adjusts volume to match another amplifier
  • Bridge Mode: switch between stereo and mono amplifier output
  • Soft Clipping: turn the Soft Clipping circuit on/off
  • Power: master power switch
  • +12V/Input Sensing: choose +12 volt trigger or signal sensing to automatically turn the amp on

  • Speakers: the speaker binding posts will accept single banana plugs, pin connectors, spade lugs up to 0.625" wide, and bare wire up to 10 gauge; there are four speaker outputs, A (left and right) and B (left and right); when powering two pair of speakers a minimum impedance of 8Ω is recommended
  • Signal Input: stereo RCA input jacks
  • 12 Volt Trigger: turn the amp on/off along with another device that has a +12 volt trigger output
  • AC Input: 2-pole IEC power input for use with included cord (or optional upgraded cord)

Dear ALL, I would like to thank you for ALL for the feedback. As I mentioned above, I have Bose 901 EQ VI and brother just gave me a pair of Klipsch - Reference Series Dual 8" 600-Watt Passive 2-Way Floor Speaker. I would like to get NAD 275BEE to gain a little bit power and clean sound from both Bose and Klipsch. Again, If I get this NAD C 275BEE, connect with Marantz SR4023 and those speakers. It will be better then what I have now, right? Thank you, Vinny

That's going to be pretty subjective as every person "listens" differently - if you have a pre amp out on the marantz and can bypass its internal power amp then yes, you can run the NAD as a power amp but as far as sound and soundstage goes there are a lot of factors that play into this - what kind of speakers are you driving and what is there sensitivity rating ? With the EQ and the Marantz receiver it seems you may already be trying to tune or dial in something that's "missing to your ears as you listen. In my experience, the more components I can separate the more transparent and real the soundstage is. For example, at the moment I'm running the 275 BEE with its matching separate preamp, a stand alone digital to audio converter and a Cambridge 4K multidisciplinary player as well as music hall turntable - very pleased with the sound - if you can do it I would look for a dedicated pre amp like Nad 165 bee instead of the receiver and use the receiver for second system - hope this helps - not a guaranteed solution to your question.

The Nad C 275BEE will make more than enough clean sound for the Bose, I have the same. Weather you can use the Marantz as the preamp, don't know. I use the Nad c165BEE. Moving from an integrated stereo amplifier to separate pre/power amps is a different world of sound. The value of the given NAD UNITS is very high! Best wishes, Tony

Vinny, I have Bose 901 Series 6 (I had 4's B4) and the NAD amp is sooo clean I couldn't believe the difference from my 1977 Kenwood receiver! I'm not familiar with your Marantz, but the NAD amp I have runs off the Pre-amp outs of a Yamaha video receiver. If your pre-amp is clean (Marantz amps were big in the late 70's...the caps are probably shot by now...), the total sound will rock, but if not, I'd replace the pre-amp to feed low THD into the NAD. You know, garbage in, garbage out. Your sound is only as good as the weakest link. Good luck with it - Pour Buoy

Dear Vinny! Seems like you looking for clear, punchy, profound sound... If your Maranta has a preamp section, I am sure it does , put NAD in between, it's a great machine! Besides it brings confidence! It will make sound bigger... regarding clarity, amp is not doing that , it does not suppose to, go to EQ section of Marantz and play/ tweak with it, configure what sound best for you, secondly, no offense, Bose is known for processors , that's how they achieve great sound, when it come to Bose speaker, I am not sure it helps with clear sound , before you go with NAD I suggest to upgrade speakers, Crutchfield has a nice selection of any range, my set up is : Yamaha RX 3080, NAD 275 and B&W 7 series, Nad brought a volume, clear sound came from Yamaha, after EQ adjustment and speakers deliver the plan . Hi Vinny, your amp has pre outs that you'll need for the rca hook ups. In the manual states it should have some sort of cover and it's obviously you need to remove before hand. Output from these to the input of the NAD and speaker wires from the NAD to your speakers. I currently have an Onlyo TXRZ-810 and I bypass the front amps from this and use the NAD and I am no audiophile by any means, however I do appreciate a cleaner crips bass and mid range. I have the Polk RTi9's floorstands and it pushes them without breaking a sweat. I did invest in good quality RCA to reject any audio interface since it is an analog hookup they're not cheap but the built quality is awesome. I bought it from here as well as the speaker wires. I did as everyone has always mentioned, make sure they are equal distance runs, mine were already assembled, and the RCA cable I got the right amount of distance to not have any additional slack so the 3.5 footer worked for me since I am not planning on redoing my HT for at least another 10 years. Anyways good luck buddy and let us know how it went for you!!!!! :)

It is a class D amp however I do not know if it is using a switched mode power supply. NAD's literature names a proprietary design that is a mystery to me. My hunch is that it is a variation on a smps type of power supply. Aside from that all I can say is that this amp is VERY neutral and clean sounding. The bass is very well described and tight but not lacking in any way. Perhaps you can get a better answer about the power supply by calling NAD. Sorry I could not be of more help.

Per a brochure this is Class A. And from experience, I can say the power in idle is enough to warm up the top of the amp (significant, but not alarmingly), so I believe it is Class A.

NAD uses a switch mode power supplies and Class D output stages. (D with SMPS) This is the best information I could find regarding Class type for NAD amps. Hope this helps.

You cannot select between the A and B speakers, if both sets of terminals are being used. Both sets of outputs will be driven simultaneously, where the A speakers are normally the main pair of speakers and the B speakers are for another set of speakers, say in a different room.

It just warms warm. Certainly not what I'd consider "hot" by any means. Not as hot as my Mark Levinson ML-9--the heat sinks can get so hot they hurt to touch. Not so with the NAD. Mine is enclosed on 3 sides with about 2.5" on either side, 2" in back. The shelf above it is about 8-10" above.

Yes, you can. Here's an excerpt from the user's manual: Bi-Amping Some loudspeakers have separate connection terminals for their LF (Low Frequency) and HF (High Frequency) sections. Where a separate power amplifier is used for the LF and HF section, this facility allows to "Bi-Amp" such speakers which may improve overall sound quality. When Bi-Amping with different models of power amplifiers, it is likely to occur that one power amplifier has more "gain" than the other, resulting in a mismatch in level for the woofer and tweeter of the speaker. Adjust the level control so that woofer and tweeter are in perfect balance with each other (identical gain of power amplifiers).

Yes, with the proper bi-wire cable, or cables, this amp can be used to bi-wire a speaker with separate low and high frequency binding posts; be sure to remove the bridge between the posts beforehand. With that said, there is little evidence that bi-wiring improves sound quality. Bi-amping, on-the-other-hand, should produce a notable improvement in sound quality and the C 275BEE can be used to bi-amp if used with another C275BEE and stereo pre-amplifier such as the NAD C 165BEE, or a single NAD C 375BEE. The C275BEE is a versatile amplifier that can be bridged for speakers of 8 ohms, or effectively drive speakers of either 4 ohm, 6 ohm or 8 ohm impedance.

Hi James, Not sure if your receiver will work with a powered sub. I have the amp you are considering paired with a NAD C 165BEE preamp. This preamp has the connection for a powered sub. I have a Definitive Technology Super Cube 2000 which is a great unit.

I am not familiar with the NAD 705, but from what I could find on it, it appears to be a stereo receiver. I have a question for you, does the NAD 705 have a sub-woofer output channel? If it does, and you should be able to use its output to drive the sub-woofer. Does the NAD 705 have pre-amp outputs that can be used to drive the NAD C275BEE? This amp does not have a sub-woofer output.

Sounds like you're describing a bi-amped connection. You'll need to use a preamp out from the receiver as a line level input to the 275BEE. You can achieve a bi-amped configuration with these components, BUT because they have different amplifiers and very likely with a different gain, you may end up with one section of the speaker increasing volume faster than the other. I think the only foolproof way to bi-amp is to use identical amps on both sets of posts.
