Modern features, classic sound

NAD has been designing great-sounding audio gear for decades. Their integrated amplifiers have long been favorites in the audiophile community as well as with our customers. Now, they've combined their old-school sound with the modern convenience of digital music in their D 7050 Direct Digital Network Amplifier. With built-in Wi-Fi, a host of digital source options, and robust amplification, this amp can bring all your music together to make your speakers sing with classic NAD sound.

Built-in Wi-Fi

When it comes to music listening, nothing beats the convenience of wireless streaming — as long as you don't have to jump through too many hoops to get there. That's why the D 7050 offers lots of ways to get the music playing easily and quickly. Built-in Wi-Fi lets you get connected to your wireless home network without running an Ethernet cable from your router. But if a wired connection suits your needs, there's an Ethernet port on the rear panel, too.

AirPlay and Bluetooth on board

The D 7050 features built-in Apple AirPlay, so you can stream music from your iPhone® or iPad®, including from apps like Spotify® and YouTube™. If you have a networked computer running iTunes®, you can also use AirPlay to send music from your music library to the D 7050 for playback. If your iPhone or iPad is connected to the same network as your computer, than use the Apple Remote app to control iTunes playback. Even without AirPlay or Wi-Fi, you can enjoy instant wireless music streaming over Bluetooth from any compatible smartphone, tablet, or computer.

NAD D 7050 direct digital network amplifier

The compact D 7050 can rest vertically or horizontally, so it can fit in just about any room. The source and volume display even reorients itself automatically.

24-bit/96kHz asynchronous USB input

Not interested in wireless streaming? You can still use your computer as a music source by connecting it to the D 7050's asynchronous USB input. This connection improves your computer's sound and is capable of playing high-resolution music files for sound quality that even trumps CDs. There are also optical and coaxial digital inputs that feed this amp's high-quality digital-to-analog converter (DAC) for sound that's silky smooth.

NAD's innovative direct digital technology

NAD first introduced "direct digital" technology on their highly acclaimed M2 integrated amplifier. By eliminating analog signal paths between the digital converter and the output stage, NAD prevents these noisy circuits from introducing distortion that degrades sound quality. So your music remains as pure as possible from the source all the way to your speakers. Plus, NAD's innovative "closed-loop" design compares the input signal with the output signal, compensating for any differences before sending it out to your speakers. It's a highly efficient design, allowing for a compact enclosure you can stand vertically on a bookshelf or desk or place horizontally in a component rack or cabinet.

Free app for Wi-Fi control with your smartphone

You won't find a lot of unnecessary buttons cluttering the streamlined D 7050. There's an extra-large volume knob and a smaller dial for selecting your music source. But if you download the free NAD D 7050 app for Apple® or Android™, you can control the player's functions with your smartphone. In addition to volume control and source selection, you can select the crossover point for your powered subwoofer, for smooth integration with your speakers. Plus, if you own PSB Imagine Mini or Imagine T speakers, the app's PerfectPitch™ uses the amp's sophisticated digital processing and EQ to deliver an unparalleled level of synergy for incredibly accurate playback.

Audio Features

Direct Digital Amplifier: Direct Digital means there are no noise and distortion producing analog circuits in the D 7050; your music remains digital right up to the speaker outputs. NAD's Direct Digital technology of the D 7050 performs all preamplifier functions in the digital domain using sophisticated software to control all aspects of performance. Digital is converted to analog by a simple passive two-pole reconstruction filter located right at the speaker outputs; then compares the output to the input, and compensates for any differences to achieve the perfect result. The high efficiency of NAD's Direct Digital amplifier technology significantly reduces the size of the heat sinks and power supply, which are physically large in high performance analog amplifiers, while offering improved sound quality.

  • LSI's + Multi-Layer PCB's: The NAD 7050 direct digital amplifier employs large scale integrated circuits (LSI) and multi-layer printed circuit boards (PCB) to optimize speed and performance.
  • NAD's Full Disclosure Power Ratings: NAD uses Full Disclosure Power (FDP), the most demanding criterion for performance measurement. FDP specifies distortion under the most extreme conditions of low impedance loads and frequency extremes, rather than the simple and easy 1kHz @ 8 ohms test quoted by many of other manufactures. NAD uses this stricter performance criterion because it more closely matches the demands of real music and real loudspeakers. Maintaining specified distortion at 4 ohms and at 20Hz to 20kHz is a much more difficult achievement. The NAD D 7050 is rated at 50 watts x 2 channel (@ 20-20kHz, in 4-ohms, with 0.004% THD).

Binding Post Speaker Terminals: The NAD D 7050 hybrid digital amplifier is equipped with four binding post terminals to connect your loudspeakers. The binding post speaker terminals will accept bare wire (up to 10AWG), banana plugs (single only), pin-connectors, and spade-connectors.

Analog Audio Outputs: The NAD D 7050 offers stereo RCA outputs that can act as a pre-out to send an audio signal to a separate amplifier, or a subwoofer output to send a low-pass audio signal (up to 200Hz) to a powered subwoofer.

Built-in Headphone Amp: The D 7050 features an integrated headphone amp with a 3.5mm headphone output jack to connect a pair of headphones for private listening. A specially designed low noise headphone circuitry accommodates a wide range of headphones, even 600-ohm studio models. Once headphones are connected to the D 7050, your connected speakers will be turned off.

Perfect Pitch: The PerfectPitch software program is available as a free firmware upgrade for all D 7050 owners and can be downloaded here. Once installed, it is selected or bypassed using the D 7050 Remote App available free at the Apple App Store. PerfectPitch utilizes carefully developed DSP filters to raise accuracy to a new height of perfection for PSB speakers. With PerfectPitch engaged on the NAD D 7050, your PSB speakers sound smoother and more detailed in the midrange with enhanced bass extension. The midrange is less forward and more three-dimensional with superior depth and width. This creates a spacious and airy sound field with improved image focus.

Variety of Digital Audio Sources

Wired or Wireless Network Connection: The NAD D 7050 is equipped with dual network connection methods. There's an RJ-45 LAN (Ethernet) port for direct wired connection to your home network, and there's also the built-in Wi-Fi feature that includes Wi-Fi Protected Setup for safe and secure connection to your wireless home network. Through either connection method, the D 7050 can playback music on your network that is stored on your computer and playback music directly from your Apple AirPlay iOS device or computer running iTunes.

  • DLNA Certified: The D 7050 is DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) 1.5 and Windows 7 compliant for audio networking. This means it's easier for you to access and enjoy digital music stored on your PC or smartphone (like Android). You can use your PC or smartphone to play high-bit rate music content through your audio system.
  • Apple Airplay: The NAD D 7050 is compatible with Apple AirPlay technology. With AirPlay, the D 7050 can connect wirelessly to any AirPlay-enabled Apple device. This allows you to stream music wirelessly from your iPod touch, iPhone, iPad, or your computer's (Mac or PC) iTunes library; via your WiFi network. Using the Apple Remote App (Free download from iTunes) on your iPod touch, iPhone, or iPad and your wireless home network, you don't even need to be in the same room as the D 7050 or your computer to play, pause, skip, and stop the songs in your iTunes music library. To use the AirPlay feature you need a Mac or Windows-based PC running iTunes (10.2.2 or later) connected to your wireless home network. Your iPod touch, iPhone, and iPad must have iOS 4.3.3 or later installed and connected to the same wireless home network.

Dual USB Inputs: The NAD D 7050 offers dual USB inputs; a USB (type-B) port to connect your computer and a USB (type-A) port to connect your Apple device.

  • Asynchronous USB (type-B) Input: The NAD D 7050 features an "asynchronous" USB (type-B) input to insure the lowest possible jitter (timing errors) from your connected Windows or Mac computer. The D 7050's USB input supports up to 24-bit/96kHz high-resolution music files on your computer. The D 7050 is compatible with Mac OS X Snow Leopard (version 10.6) or later version; no additional USB driver required. Its also compatible with Windows (XP service pack 2 or higher and 7); additional USB driver download required from the NAD website.
  • USB (type-A) Input For Apple Devices: The D 7050's USB (type-A) input lets you connect your Apple iPod/iPhone/iPad using the connector cable that came with your Apple device. The D 7050 supports playback of stored music and music apps on your compatible Apple device. The USB (type-A) port will also charged your connected Apple iPod or iPhone (but not iPad). Check out the iPod compatibility chart for compatible iPod, iPhone, and iPod models.

Bluetooth aptX Music Streaming: The NAD D 7050 offers built-in Bluetooth aptX technology. Via Bluetooth, you can wirelessly stream music from your smartphone, tablet, or laptop to the hybrid digital amplifier. The D 7050 even supports aptX audio coding which delivers CD-quality sound wirelessly over Bluetooth. The D 7050 is compatible with most Bluetooth devices (such as Apple, Android, and Blackberry). However, due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features.

iPod Compatibility Chart: The NAD D 7050 is "Made for iPod/iPhone/iPad" compatible and supports the following iPod, iPhone, and iPad model features (as of 9/6/2013):

13 questions already asked

The 7050 seems closest to my interest, although Iâ??ve got a set of efficient floorstanding speakers. Hopefully will still pair well with it. Biggest question is whether the rca outs are dedicated to a subwoofer, or could they be used as a signal out to another power amp?
[ john  Nov 25, 2017 ]
1 answer
Using the NAD smartphone app you can configure the RCA outputs on the D7050 for low-pass filter between 40-200 Hz (in 10 Hz steps), or full range. On a side note: The D7050 sounds great but the Spotify Connect feature which I use a lot is apparently being shut down by Spotify shortly. You can of course still Airplay or Bluetooth.
[ Mads  Nov 25, 2017 ]
Can it power a pair of PSB T45?
[ Naga  Sep 07, 2017 ]
1 answer
Nice speakers, btw. I am sure that they rock (I have the PSB Imagine Minis for my office desktop and, with the NAD 7050 and PSB 125 subwoofer, my system really rocks. After hours of course. ;-) To me, the 7050 is best for a nearfield set up, like what I have on my desk. It could power the T45s, but why would you? I would get a more conventional amp, if it were me, unless space is a premium, like in an office or bedroom. Otherwise the NAD 7050 is awesome. And I think it does best when paired with "family" speakers like the PSBs, but then I could be imagining that. So get a nice NAD C 368, it has a built in DAC and other features (not sure about Spotify, which is nice), and it has 80 watts of power, which I think is more closely aligned with your speakers.
[ THOMAS E  Sep 08, 2017 ]
I am interested in this amp and also looked @ Denon pma-50 Think they have the same brand of circuitry, not certain about this. I like jazz, rock, acoustic. Have some Elacs UB5. Which one do you recommend? Thx

Does this amp has tone control? Bass & Treble?
[ C@arl  Feb 10, 2017 ]

No control for bass or treble. However a powerful little unit with almost zero THD
[ Peter  Feb 12, 2017 ]
No, but I've never felt the need. I have really enjoyed the product in every way.
[ Chester  Feb 12, 2017 ]
It does not. I was a bit worried about that but no problems - the sound is really great. I had an old NAD from 1995 with all the adjustments and honesty I prefer the great sound and lack of fiddling with this one.
[ Greg  Feb 11, 2017 ]
It does not have any tone controls. This amp is designed to process input signals au' natural.
[ ROGER  Feb 10, 2017 ]
You are supposed to download the NAD 7050 App for it once you receive the unit. There are treble and bass controls but they don't work on everything. You should download the manual and the app and check them out before you buy. Also, read some of the reviews on the App, too.
[ Richard  Feb 10, 2017 ]
No, however you can select the crossover point if you have a Sub connected to it
[ Charles  Feb 10, 2017 ]
Any problem with attaching a splitter to power two sets of speakers? I have two pair of Polk RC80i ceiling speakers; one pair could be upgraded in future. (From Polk manual: "20--100WRMS. Compatible w/ 8ohm amplifiers.") Thanks!

I wouldn't do it. Buy a bigger amp with four speaker outs. Spend the money on a NAD 368 or a Rotel or something.
[ THOMAS E  Sep 08, 2017 ]
I believe they are desing to power only one pair of speckers and one subwoffer. The combined impedance would not work
[ Andres  Feb 06, 2017 ]
Can i give audio input by LAN? Plz help me with diagram.

I say use a Synology NAS to store your music and then control it through Spotify, etc., from your PC and through the NAD to your speakers, etc.. Synology does a very nice job with music. I have the 1513s (two), and love them.
[ THOMAS E  Sep 08, 2017 ]
Sunil -- simply plugged an ethernet cable from my router into the back of the unit -- and I also have my desktop computer (an Apple) plugged into the network via an ethernet cable. Now I just go to my items and I have the option of playing from the computer through this system. It works great. Bluetooth also works well from the iPhone - but I usually have to unplug the amplifier and then replug it to get the bluetooth to work. I stopped trying to use airplay because it was too unreliable. Hope this helps! PS -- if you can only bring one ethernet cable from your router -- but you need to plug more than one device in -- then you need a "switch" -- mine is nice -- it only cost 35 bucks or so. Hope this helps.
[ Arleigh  Jan 19, 2016 ]
Yes, it has an ethernet port -- that is how I connect my iTunes on my computer to the NAD D 7050. It works like a charm.
[ Gary  Jan 16, 2016 ]

Will the NAD D 7050 access and play ALAC files from a Mac Mini server? I use the the Mac Mini as my high resolution music server and would like to access those file elsewhere via WIFI.
[ cincymat  Sep 23, 2015 ]

Dump the Mac Mini and get a real music server like the Synology D 1513 NAS. Expensive? Heck yeah. But worth it.
[ THOMAS E  Sep 08, 2017 ]
Yes, the NAD D7050 supports Apple Airplay. Play your ALAC files using iTunes on your Mac Mini and (after you have set up the 7050 on your WiFi or ethernet network) the 7050 will appear as an Airplay option.
[ NIGEL  Oct 10, 2015 ]
Im not sure if this answers your question as I don't have a Mac hooked directly up to my 7050. However, I did download a sample ALAC file from Linn Records, loaded it into my JRiver Media Server and was able to readily listen to the track on my 7050 using DLNA over Wi-Fi. I hope that helps.
[ Matthew  Sep 24, 2015 ]
The 7050 has AirPlay built in. So you can connect the mini over wifi to the 7050 AirPlay and play anything in iTunes. AirPlay caps out at 16/44 and downgrades to that streaming resolution but I have had no trouble. Option 2 is to connect to the 7050 via a cable.
[ Joseph  Sep 24, 2015 ]
I Don't know. I use bluetoth and airplay only
[ Andres  Sep 24, 2015 ]
I downloaded the apps NAD D 7050 and select Device Discovery then it show D 7050 00E131 and click it. I got a message "D 7050 Firmware Upgrade required". My question now is how to upgrade my unit? My unit is not connected on my computer just in wifi.

How easy is it switching between bluetooth and other inputs? Thanks.
[ Branon  Dec 15, 2014 ]

Bluetooth is just one of the input choices you can cycle through, using the smaller knob, the remote, or the App you download on your iPhone. See the picture at the bottom of NAD page for this product, Bluetooth is in the source menu
[ David  Dec 19, 2014 ]
Just a turn of the bottom dial. Super easy. Just as easy on your smart phone and the remote. Still loving this amp!
[ Scott  Dec 17, 2014 ]
Very easy....even my 7 yrs old sun can do it.
[ Franklin  Dec 16, 2014 ]
Very easy. The remote has dedicated buttons that allow you to cycle through the inputs. You can also use the lower knob (on the illustration).
[ LAWRENCE  Dec 16, 2014 ]
very easy, you simply rotate the small rotary knob on the front and it selects sequentially between the inputs. OR use your phone/tablet, with the NAD application, and select the input there. Hope that helps.
[ JOHN  Dec 16, 2014 ]
Switching between any inputs is easy. There are three ways. Use the button on the surface of the amplifier, use the remote control, or use your phone/tablet with the NAD app. This latter method is preferred as it gives you more control and flexibility.
[ Michael Sean  Dec 16, 2014 ]
I use optical 1 and AirPlay and use my iPhone to switch between them, which is very easy
[ SAM B  Dec 16, 2014 ]
I was thinking of getting this and was wondering if the remote control can skip tracks forward or backward or pause/stop/resume play of a connected ipod or iphone? The Manual states that this feature is only available via Airplay. Maybe that's the case but it does not make sense to me. Is that an oversight in the manual ? Can one have basic control via remote to an ipod connected to the USB port? I am hoping that's the case. Thanks for any help someone can provide.

I've had this Amp for almost a year. Love it! Quietest amp I've ever had. To answer your question, Yes! I use an iPod Classic and iPod Touch. The NAD remote does control the iPod when hooked up to the USB port (forward, back, pause, stop, on/off, resume). The only thing it won't do is change playlists. Not a deal breaker. I have one of these and would be happy to test it for you if I can, but not sure I understand what you're trying to do. You want to connect in iPod directly to the NAD via USB? What input do you plan to use on the back of the device? There doesn't seem to be an input for standard USB that would connect to an iPod. There is a big fat USB input labeled "computer" . . . do you plan to connect an iPod via that port? Not sure I have a cable for that which would connect an iPod.

Unfortunately I do not have experience trying to control ipod or iphone. However, there is an app where you can control this device via android or iphone so from your smartphone you can control the music and the D7050.

Hi there. I have never connected and ipod directly to the unit. I have used airplay and that gives you full control. The unit is really superb small and sounds great!

Is it possible to adjust the unit's volume directly via the Airplay function without using the NAD app? Also, can this unit power itself on when Airplay is initiated like many of the Marantz units?

Yes, I have found you can adjust the volume directly from AirPlay without the NAD app. I haven't found, however, that the unit will auto power on when Airplay is initiated. Hope that helps.

I just tested this with my unit. Yes, once you're connected to the 7050 via Airplay you can adjust volume through Airplay without touching the 7050 itself (though the volume on the 7050 still works as well). For your second question, the answer seems to be "no". When the 7050 is asleep, it doesn't seem to show up in Airplay lists on my iMac or my phone. As soon as I wake the 7050 up, then it appears in those lists. So I don't think there is a way to wake it up or power it on via Airplay, unless I'm missing something.

I don't use the unit with Airplay all the time. I have used it and yes you can control the volume from your apple device. As for turning it on from within airplay, I am not sure. You can turn it on with the app for apple however. Hope that helps

Yes, you can control can control volume outside of the NAD app. I use Airplay to connect to the D7050. I stream lossless from my Mac mainly using my iPhone or iPad as the remote. I use either the remote app on my iPhone or iPad or the iTunes app on my MAC to control volume. I can also use the iPhone or iPad Music App but then I am streaming lower bit rate files. Any change of volume through any of these apps registers as a change of volume on the D7050 display. I don't know about your second question. I leave it powered on (display goes off after a short while of non-use) and it is available whenever I initiate music from another device. By the way, I LOVE this machine. So do my friends. It's as easy as any friend connecting to my network and being able to play their music via their device as well.
