Comfort is never a question

While sound quality has been improved, the comfort factor of the original remains the same. The earpads and headband are still covered with soft sheepskin leather, for a luxurious look and feel. The aluminum frame still offers durability while remaining lightweight and providing a shining contrast to the deep black earcups and headband.

Remote and mic for Apple® devices

The P5 Series 2 headphones come with two miniplug cables: one straight cable, and one with a built-in remote and microphone. The three-button remote offers track and volume control for your iPhone®, iPad®, or iPod®. The microphone lets you take hands-free calls with your iPhone. Pull the magnetic earpads off the headphones to reveal the cable connection and replace your cable. The headphones also include a quilted carrying case with a magnetic clasp for storage and travel.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The quality of the headphones is without a doubt excellent, particularly at this price point. The same goes for the sound. Even without a break-in period, one can tell that these headphones are superior to anything in that price range. However, these headphones are exceptionally uncomfortable to use. It takes a while to find a comfortable position on one's ears. Even when that is achieved, the pressure excreted by the headband and the ear pads is just a little too much for comfort. Although it is reasonable to expect a break-in period for improved sound, it is something else entirely to expect the same for comfort when it comes to headphones. In contrast, Bowers & Wilkins P9, which are considerably bigger and heavier, are far more comfortable, even when using for hours at a time. Perhaps it is possible to gradually stretch these out to the point that you can barely feel them on your ears but I'm not willing to try it. Other than that, a great pair of headphones that's worth considering.

Pros: Superior sound and quality of materials.

Cons: Far too tight, becoming uncomfortable to use after 30 minutes. Some have suggested stretching them gradually by putting them around a stack of books approximately as thick as one's head.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Bowers and Wilkins P5 Series 2 headphones have excellent build quality and rich, well-balanced sound that's now more transparent and accurate. Its earpads are removable and the two included cables are detachable (one has a built-in Apple friendly remote/microphone). The tight seal shuts out a lot of external noise and the headphones don't leak sound. A protective carrying case is included

Cons: none

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I own B&W headphones since a while and the P5 series to is a great upgrade of the original P5s. I love the detail of the sound and the neutral stage which is great for listening to all kinds of different music. And of course they look awesome

Pros: Great sound, great look. replaceable ear pads

Cons: Maybe a tiny little bit tight for me but I hope after wearing them a while I get used to it.

Better than the p7

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I owned two pairs of the original P5's, and never understood how BEATS could have found success compared to B&W sound quality; I bought the p7's when they were released, and the sound was less intimate; when I learned the p5 Series 2 had the same element as the p7's, I gave them a shot, and they are by far the best headphones I've ever owned. The detail of the sound is remarkable, and the bass (unlike the original p5's) never distorts. These are the headphones I've been waiting for my whole life. They also look and feel great; I'd love it if they came out with a sport version so that they could endure the sweat at the gym.

Pros: I've sampled so many headphones it's silly, and these are the best I've tried.

Cons: I'd love it if they came out with a sport version so that they could endure the sweat at the gym. I've sampled so many headphones it's silly, and these are the best I've tried.

Features

Overview: The Bowers & Wilkins (B&W) P5 Series 2 on-ear headphones retain the classic styling of the original P5s, with the leather ear pads and detachable cables. The Series 2 edition features an upgraded drive unit for even better sound quality. The P5 Series 2 headphones come with two 4' cables, one with an in-line remote/mic compatible with Apple iPhone/iPad/iPod, and a quilted storage case with magnetic closures.

Ear Cups and Drivers: The P5 headphones feature 40mm dynamic drivers that work more like a driver in a hi-fi speaker. The headphones are tuned by sound engineers, so they sound as good as they look. The removable magnetic ear pads allow you to change the cable, or replace the pads if they gets damaged. These luxurious sheep's leather ear pads with an optimized grille pattern to allow the air to move freely through the pads for minimal acoustic impedance.

Folding Design: The ear cups swivel so you can fold them flat for compact storage in the supplied quilted soft case.

Cables: The B&W P5 headphones come with two 48" interchangeable cables, including one with an in-line remote and microphone that works with your iPhone. The headphone cable has a unique curved terminal on the headphone end that plugs in under the left earcup. The 2.5mm sub-mini plug rests in a contoured jack to protect the terminal and prevents accidental disconnection. A spare cable, without the mic/remote, is supplied. The 3.5mm miniplug features a slim connector (less than 1/4" in diameter) that allows you to plug into your portable music device, even when it's housed in a hard protective case.

Made for iPod/iPhone/iPad: The in-line mic/remote on the headphone cable is certified to work with Apple i-devices. The 3-button remote can control volume with the two outer buttons and playback with the center button. A single click of the center button will answer or hang up a phone call, and toggle between pause and play. Two quick clicks will skip the playback to the next song, while three quick clicks skips back to the beginning of the currently playing song. The remote and mic are supported by iPhone 3GS or later, iPad, iPod touch (2nd generation or later), iPod classic (120 GB, 60 GB), and iPod nano (4th generation or later). Why did you buy this?

I am upgrading from the stock iPhone in ear that I have been using to what I hope will be improved sound quality and comfortable usage. [ A  May 06, 2018 ]
I am hooked on B&W products! Crutchfied prices, not to mention their A+ customer services are a deal-maker! [ Larry  Feb 27, 2018 ]
1) Sound; while subjective, this is a great sounding set of headphones. 2) Value; the price point for such a brand name and good quality set of headies is unbeatable. 3) Crutchfield; the superior customer service and 60-day returns policy are exceptional additional reasons. [ Adan  Feb 06, 2018 ]
Previous experience with B&W products [ DAVID M  Aug 17, 2017 ]
Customer reviews were all very positive . Have owned B&W speakers for many years and love them . [ Tom  Jul 26, 2017 ]

1 question already asked

It will, but the volume controls on the in line remote does not work. Only the middle button for pause works. [ Kyle  Jan 08, 2018 ]
It should. It has a 3.5mm mini-jack. I mainly use it on my computer and MP3 player but it also works on my old cell phone. [ Edmond  Jan 08, 2018 ]
Yes, on my Verizon LG 5. [ Alan  Jan 07, 2018 ]
One more thing to add is that these are high quality with superb sound to boot. Would buy again all things being equal. [ Poppy  Jan 07, 2018 ]
I'm not sure as I have only used these for home use and on an iPad. The volume and stop/play buttons work but they are kind of too high up for my taste as you are not able to see which buttons you are using . [ Poppy  Jan 07, 2018 ]
