A Solid Performer with Surprising Bass Reproduction

What a fine little speaker this is. It has the best bass I have heard in a mini-monitor, with a good midrange and smooth highs. The compact size and small footprint suit my small space well. Overall, lots of realism in the sound, and that is what is most important. A touch more refinement would make this speaker a true gem, but for the price that is a minor criticism. Build quality is also good, and I like that its connector set-up is clean-a single-wire configuration...I do not like bi-wire or jumpers. I drive these with an NAD C356 BEE.

Pros: Excellent bass and musical realism

Cons: None really at this price point

Big sound from a little guy

I have been looking for new speakers for a few months & have auditioned a few brands at home. Just couldn't find the 'sound' I wanted. Thanks to Crutchfield they took my returns without a problem. Enter the PSB Alpha P3. Don't let the size of these little guys fool you. I have only had them a couple of weeks and can't believe their sound. Very wide open sound stage, crystal clear & enough bass to satisfy. Also very pleased with the build quality. I have been a very satisfied Crutchfield customer since 1991. Thanks again Crutchfield! pleased with the build quality also.

PSB Alpha P3

Ok, for the size, these speakers surprised me how low the bass response is. I have decided to cross them at 60Hz with a big DefTec sub. When I tuned the room, my Yamaha receiver detected these are "large speakers." They are functioning as my main drivers L/R in a 5.1 setup with a DefTec center and small Cambridge Audio cubes for the rears. Oh, and highs and mid bass are smooth as butter.

These replaced a pair of Energy Take Classic as front speakers. I was very limited by shelf space so could not go with anything bigger. A vast improvement over the Energies: cleaner mid and high frequencies, much more bass. Crutchfield speaker listening tool was really helpful in selecting these among other speakers of similar size. Nothing came close in terms of bass response which for these PSB speakers was roughly as good as for several larger bookshelves such as Polk S15. Highly recommended especially for space limited installations.
