Audioengine N22 desktop amp P4 bookshelf spkrs
Audioengine: P4 Bookshelf Speakers &N22 Amplifier
P4 Bookshelf Speakers & N22 Desktop Amplifier
Compact, beautiful, and affordable — you get the triple whammy of speaker design with Audioengine's P4s. "But how do they sound?" you ask. Your music and movie soundtracks will sound incredibly transparent, alive with midrange presence and crisp, crystalline highs. We wouldn't expect anything less from Audioengine. Close your eyes and you'll be amazed that the spacious, wide-open sound you're hearing is coming from such small speakers.
Audioengine first caught our attention with their excellent-sounding line of powered speakers. These passive speakers are a great option when you already have an amplifier or receiver that you'd like to use. Pair them with Audioengine's N22 integrated amplifier for a compact desktop system that'll make you want to spend more time just listening.
The P4s work great in just about any audio setup. Mix and match them with any other pair of Audioengine speakers to create a killer surround sound system in your living room. Or use them in a stereo setup in your den, bedroom, or home office. They'll sound great sitting on stands, on a bookshelf, or mounted on a wall using the integrated threaded inserts.
Excellent sound and perfect for a small system.

Excellent sound and perfect for a small system.
These speakers are wonderful... Also using Audioengine N22 Amp.......Sound is clean & detailed , sound stage is great, I'm using them at my computer desk and the sound is like headphones only bigger, without actually wearing headphones. Also have the stands......together they are cool looking too. Great bang for the buck...... glad I went with Audioengine
Great product, great company.
Sound quality in general is good but small soundstage compare with my another less than half price pair speakers. P4 has less detail too. The only thing better is when play it loud has less distortion. Overall I feel like it is overpriced product.
Great sound from such a compact speaker. Used with a Sub woofer it is very spacious and articulate. Massive bang for the buck!
Pros: Great speaker for the price. Accurate spacious sound and very good soundstage!
Cons: None can think of actually.
The P4 optimizes compactness. For fuller base, consider the HDP6, not these little gems. 4" woofers can only do so much. That said, these speakers are superb! Bought as B speakers for Yamaha A-S301 amp. As soon as I wired them up-30 foot run, 14 gauge-and auditioned them with CD of Monk's "Straight, No Chaser," I knew that we had a winner. The saxophone sounded in-the-room great, as did Monk's piano. The double bass was plenty bassy. Soundstage-excellent. These speakers have a lot of, shall I say, presence, or boldness, sounding every bit as good as my A speakers, Elac B6s; a little more trebly, and, of course, not able to compete in the bass department. Clear, crisp across spectrum. To clarify about the bass performance, Kraftwerk's "Trans Europe Express" and Zeppelin's "II," as bassy examples, both sound fantastic on the P4s, but not as fully realized as by speakers with bigger woofers. Tilting up an inch or so makes a pleasant difference in the P4s sound if placed low. Ordered the wee stands, recommended, though pricey. The P4s are great for up-close listening, or for room-filling sound. In fact, they easily fill a whole floor of our house with great ambient music. Worried about the 4 Ohm rating? Don't be. My low-budget 60 wpc A-S301 drives these and the Elac B6s-6 Ohm-simultaneously, endlessly, with no strain whatsoever, and that is with the impedance selector on the rear of the amp set to high position. Crank it to unlistenably loud if you do want to fry your amp.
Pros: Front-ported, which makes a lot of sense for speakers designed actually to fit on a bookshelf. No frivolous grilles to remove and then throw away or stash in a closet never to be used again-thank you, Audioengine! Available in classic, Audiophile matte black finish. These beauties look and feel just like what they are: superbly engineered and built loudspeakers. Tiny. Originally planned to place them among the book stacks, but ended up setting them on end tables where they are very unobtrusive.
Cons: The truly performance-enhancing, dapper, tilted stands which Audioengine makes for these speakers are horribly overpriced. I was glad I had some rewards points in my Crutchfield account to blow on these little stands. They work great, but are probably the two most expensive pieces of plastic that I now own. Achieve the same audio effect by placing a book under the front of each P4.
Haven't broken them in yet but they seem clear, crisp and natural. May purchase a sub woofer in the future but I'm very satisfied for now.
I'm using these P4s for my office, without sub, listening to classical and jazz while I work. For their size (small) and cost (reasonable) they are superb. Although they can't produce the full deep fundamentals of the basses, they have a coherent, pleasing sound. Sometimes I hear elements that I've never noticed before in the upper registers. Best I've heard at this price and size. For me, the ultimate test is "do I stop listening to the speakers and just hear the music?". The P4s answer that question "Yes". Every speaker has it's own 'sound' which may not fit your ear but the good speakers are consistent through the audio range. These are GOOD.
Playing vinyl with project turntable, NAD amp thru these small speakers and I am amazed at the clarity of sound. These are perfect for a smaller room. The only thing you give up that you would probably have in a larger speaker is some bass. But if you don't care about having booming base, these are a bargain.
I simply had no idea that speakers could sound this good. I bought these after reading all the positive reviews and couldn't be happier. I am not an audiophile but to my ear these speakers deliver significantly better sound than the Bose 201's they replaced. I needed small speakers to put on a shelf in our living room and everyone is impressed with how well they sound and how the music fills the room. Absolutely fantastic product!
Pros: Compact size, full and vibrant sound, very good bass considering the size.
Pros: Amazing sound from such small speakers
Cons: Haven't found any yet
These speakers are a great addition to the existing speakers in my RV for a fuller sound
Pros: A great sounding speaker for the size and price
These sound great and are way better than anything at this price point. I have them hooked up to a Pro-Ject Debut Carbon turntable with Pro-Ject amp and pre amp. They are very well made and very solid. Way better sound and construction than anything at this price. I tested the Klipsch and Polk Audio speakers at the same price point and the Audioengine P4 sound waaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyy better. Also have 1/4" screw hole and back for wall mount or stand mount.
Pros: Solid construction. Excellent sound for the price. Sound way bigger than they are.
Cons: None. Buy them.
Speakers are great. I am playing them mostly at low and moderate volume with pleasing results. Very nice sound at high volume also, easily fill the 180' sq room they are in. Adding a subwoofer will of course add more depth, I plan to do this very soon.
Pros: Great range and sound reproduction even at low volume
Cons: For 'bookshelf speakers,' really no shortcomings
These speakers represent astonishing value for money. Crisp yet punchy sounding. From Hard Rock to Classical, these are the most versatile speakers on the market for the money.
Pros: Clear unobstructed sound delivering an undistorted range that belies the price.
Cons: Other than being slightly larger than the speakers they replaced - which is entirely my fault, absolutely nothing.
I bought these speakers to accompany my Bluesound Powernode (network music streamer/amp). All I can say is wow. I had read the previous reviews, and therefore had high expectations, but these speakers far exceeded my expectations. The sound is crisp, accurate and rich. I listen to all kinds of music (Rock, jazz, classical, country, etc.), and these speakers very accurately reproduce any type of music. I use them in my home office, and they really fill the room. As noted by other reviewers, they lack a little on the low end. It shouldn't be a big concern for a lot of people, but if you listen to a lot of rock, like me, you'll want a subwoofer. I've already ordered the Audioengine S8. For the money, you really can't go wrong buying these speakers.
Pros: Great sounding, crisp, rich, punchy. Great price/value for the money.
Cons: You may need a subwoofer based on your personal preference.
The sound is incredible. Very balanced and clean, even at high volume. I am using a small desktop amp to drive them at volumes greater than I can stand - and all the music is distortion free, clean sound.
Pros: Amazing sound for such small units.
Cons: Not much low end, but I intend to add a subwoofer.
Looked high and low for great near-field desktop speakers for music. Tried the B&W MM-1s, and they were nice, but there was no way to easily add a sub (and they need a sub). Saw a snarky answer on one of the boards to just buy an amp, a couple speakers, and a sub, and I thought why not? So, I have these hooked up with the NS-22 amp, a Klipsch SW308 sub (crossed over at about 115 Hz), and a SoundBlaster Z. My desk faces into the room, so my speakers don't get any extra bass from a rear wall (a shame, because without that, the P4s don't really kick much below 70 Hz). No grills makes these boys look very cool. The MM-1s were all class, but these look like the business end of elegant... classy in a tougher way. They're heavy with a very nice black satin finish. At night, they almost disappear. Packaging was first rate, with cloth bags and all. I was almost expecting to find a bottle of Dewers in there somewhere (sadly, I didn't). So, how do they sound? Well, they sound great. The soundstage is *almost* as good as the MM-1s, but they're not quite as clinical, sounding a little warmer - which I prefer. I play these at low volumes, but they can get loud. Leaning the speakers back with the optional stands helps bring out the highs a bit more. I like it a little better... try leaning them back on a stack of CDs first if you want. The Klipsch is a good compliment to these. I returned the MM-1s because I can't get the full spectrum from them. But these are keepers.
Pros: Good soundstage. They look great. They have amazing presence with quality recordings. Pair 'em with a good sub, and OMG! They sound warm with clear highs and a beautiful midrange that brings out strings and vocals. You will look sexier just being in their presence. You'll also smile more.
Cons: They're very transparent, so you'll notice it when an album is poorly mastered / recorded. And you'll notice the sub-par nature of poorly encoded mp3s. They do well on bass FOR THEIR SIZE, but you won't get much bass from a 4" woofer; it's just physics.
These speakers are some of the best im sure anyone can get at a low price for such great quality. Yes they are on the small side, BUT, they sure can can make big sound. I would recommend these for near field system. Dont expect to put these in a big room and for them to sound like tower speakers, be realistic too. But for a small room they are great. They fill the room pretty well. The thing i loved the most was the very clean bass. I just came from some polk speakers that had a boomy bass and was just so annoying. These have fluent and clean bass that is enjoyable at any volume. Plus they are front ported so that gives them a big advantage. GREAT speakers that i highly recommend.
Pros: -Great Bass -Great size -Front Ported -Great Finish
Needed some good speakers for my pc and I tried 2 other pairs that just didn't do it for me. The Audioengine 2's and then the Bose Companion 3 and then I finally settled on the Audioengine P4's. But since they are passive I needed an amp, so I pulled out my old Onkyo receiver. The Audioengine 2's were great, so great they almost had the low's you wanted to hear, so close that it drove me crazy, so I went with the Bose. Had the low's but was missing everything else. So I went with these, and they are great. Crutchfield was so awesome, they had no issue returning the Bose and Audioengine2's for these. Thanks Crutchfield for the great customer support, and by the way your service tech helped me setup my old Onkyo receiver. Best Customer support I have ever experienced!! Telling all my friends and family about my experience.

Full-Range Sound: Each of the Audioengine P4s has two drivers; a 3/4" silk dome tweeter and a 4" Kevlar woofer. The front ported cabinets offer accurate bass down to 58 Hz.
Construction: The cabinets are built using 3/4" MDF with internal bracing. Internal sound-damping material reduces unwanted reflections inside the cabinet. The cabinet edges are rounded to reduce high-frequency diffraction effects on the front baffles. The speakers are hand finished and have high-density foam isolation pads on the bottom for placement flexibility.
Binding Posts: The 5-way binding post input terminals are located at the top rear of the speaker cabinet; they will accept spade connectors, pin connectors, single and dual banana plugs, and bare wire up to 10 gauge.
Mounting: The speakers can be wall or ceiling mounted with an optional bracket (not included). There are two 1/4"-20 threaded inserts on the back of each speaker, aligned vertically, approximately 1-3/4" apart. There is also one 1/4"-20 threaded insert on the bottom of each speaker, in the center.

Have heard a lot of good things about these speakers, and they will work perfect for what I want to use them for. [ Clyde Jun 07, 2018 ]
I need decent bookshelf speakers that will actually fit on a bookshelf. Also, because I want to place the speakers on a bookshelf, I do not want speakers with rear-firing bass ports. The P4s have received good reviews, they seem to be well made, and they look nice. [ Jack Feb 03, 2018 ]

I was looking to replace my bookshelf speakers, I don't need too much emphasis on bass since I have a sub to do that job; I'm looking something close range behind or aside my computer monitor that I can play either high or low volume and still be able to hear great sound.. I hope these are "it". And also I read the good reviews. [ allen Mar 19, 2017 ]
I was looking to get some bookshelf speakers for a tight space (in an actual bookshelf). These have a decent frequency response with no rear-facing ports. [ Stefan Mar 18, 2017 ]
