Not a waste of money... But for a tight fit and only an 8in sub it sounds nice... it doesn't hit as hard as bigger subs (10in,12in,15in) As far as the space your working with it's probably perfect for you. If you want crazy competition hard hitters this is not. If you want that little bump with compact space they are perfect. The only regret I have because I have the space is I should of went with the 10.

It depends on speaker choice and location, but with what you've described you probably won't be able to hear much music over 35 mph without an external amp and some higher power speakers. If you run some decent lower priced speakers (4, if you can find placements for them) you should be able to enjoy some music at lower speeds and waiting at lights with just your head unit.

I assume the reason you're looking at this is because you want more bass. And the great thing about bass is that it is not affected by the frequencies you mention: rattles and wind noise. So, even without knowing any more that this about your vehicle and its particular "features" I would say yes, you will hear a difference. I put this unit in my '03 Honda CR-V (not exactly the quietest vehicle on the road) and was able to notice a huge difference.

In short yes, however I will suggest testing it in that position first asThe acoustic properties vary from vehicle to vehicle not to mention depending on what items you may have in that area luggage bags etc. Plus the subwoofer is not super powerful so vibration should be minimal if any. But you could always get a piece of sound dampening material to place between the cover and the tire.

I connected this Sub to an Alpine aftermarket stereo and also installed decent polk aftermarket speakers. This Subwoofer is really distorted and sounds really bad overall. Seeing the reviews and youtube sound tests of this subwoofer make me feel like I messed something up during the installation? Also I tried adjusting the phase, EQ hertz and other setting to try and fix this but no luck. Any suggestions?

Gret Idea Roger,, I bought this unit for its thin profile and installed it under the front seat, passenger side. It made connections shorter and adjustments easier. This unit rumbles the interior of my vehicles, (I have three). You'll find that adjusting volume and eq settings a whole lot easier when you can reach under the seat and not have to run to the trunk....

My installation is in a 1999 Chevy truck. My truck is the extended cab version and so it fit ideally under the seat (jump seat ) in the rear behind the driver's seat. The performance is wonderful! Mind you, I am old and what I really needed was to round out the music spectrum with more bass at reasonable levels. No need for me to want to blow doors off! Just give the bass some oompf without rattling the doors with the standard door mounted speakers. can't help with the Honda, but in my truck it works great and at a great price.

I purchased the Sound Ordnance for my older truck August of 18 and truly love it! It has a built in amp, which is why I bought it in the first place. Less wiring, less room to take up. You have great control over your bass. I highly recommend this product with Kicker speakers you mentioned. Unless you fell the need to have another amp, this has enough power and is easy to hook up!

My truck is a 98 Chevy extended cab and it fit easily underneath the jump seat in the back. The sub turned out to be more than I expected! The dimensions should tell if there is enough space. I purchased this for my sons 02' Mazda 626. It did not fit under the front seats as it was to tall. I'd suggest measuring wherever you are going to put it. We installed it in the middle of the upper back seat where the armrest came down.

The larger the wire diameter (or smaller the gauge) the less resistance to current. Same is true of length of wire, the longer it is, the more resistance. I placed my subwoofer in the trunk, mounted on the rear deck under the rear window. Because of the long distance from rear to battery, I used 10 gauge. Remember, it's not just a straight line distance from woofer amplifier to battery. You have to route the wire to the floor or ceiling, run it through the car, then up or down to the fire wall, then around obstacles to the battery. You may be able to get by with 12 gauge, but, if you can afford it, be sure with 10.

My recommendation is to use gauge 12 for less than 10 feet cable and 10 for longer than 12 feet cable. This unit is not that powerful for 10 gauge use, but is advisable to use 10 if you consider replace it with more powerful one in the future. Don't forget to install a 15a fuse at the source side for security purposes as well.

10 gauge will cover 150 watts, however, if you think you might ever upgrade to a larger amp/sub, you'll already have the cable for something larger if you went with a bigger cable size. I had the B-8PTD & it sounded great, however, I thought it would satisfy my bass "wants" & I eventually ended up with a 10" sub in a vented enclosure in my trunk with a 1500W RMS amp in my Honda Civic using 4 gauge cable. it just depends on what you believe you will end up with. I know I'm finally satisfied with my sound system. I hope this helps!

iI have an 07 classic extended cab. I was able to mount it behind the seat. I used a piece of plywood so I didn't have to drill through the body and mounted the plywood to supports existing. Then mounted the amp to the plywood. In my case, I had to take the seat out to do the work.

I am interested in installing both new Memphis 4" and Memphis 4"x10" my 1985 Buick Riviera convertible hobby car. I want to keep the stock radio but don't know if it will push enough power for the subwoofer. I just want a very slim compact subwoofer that will hide away nicely under the seat with nice rich, non-windown shaking base tones. My thing is I don't know the amps/volatage of the stock radio. I can send the link of the person that has the same radio on ebay with GM factory photo stickers that hmay have voltage/amps. Also, I want the subwoofer to off automatically when the turn of the factory radio without draining the battery or affecting atlernator. I was also considering the JBL Bass Pro SL. If you bought it from crutchfield you can call tech support. You can hook it up to the rca output of your radio. If a stock radio with no outputs, you can connect it to speaker wires. It's not a blow the windows out sub, try to mount it inside the cabin, as opposed to the trunk. Under a seat. Crutchfield support should be able to tell if your car has sub out

How much space do you have under the seat? You have the car, did you put a tape measure to use for siz available? What obstructions exist? I don't know the dimensions of the unit off hand but those should be available in the description of the unit, or a Crutchfield tech can tell you. Assuming you are talking about the front passenger seat not the rear passenger seat. You will very likely need to remove the seat to install the brackets and the make the wiring connections.

I can't answer this with certainty but I'm sure it will fit. If memory serves, the unit is only about 3 inches thick. As a comparison, I installed my Ordnance sub under the driver's seat of my 2014 Dodge Avenger. It fits fine and the seat still moves forward and backward, without dragging on the unit. BTW, the unit will not deliver heart-stopping bass but with a factory system, it really sounds pretty decent. Well worth the $150 or so I paid for it. Hope this helps. Have a great day!

You should be able to run your red positive cable from battery to first unit, then run another red cable from that unit to the last. Same goes for the blue remote wire. You can then run each of the negative ground wires to a seat bolt going into the floorboard. Seriously though the best location for the B-8ptd is in your trash can, they leave A LOT to be desired.

Option 1 is the preferred method, the other two will work but have drawbacks. Option 2 you'll lose information and depth, option 3 you'll fee the sub signal detail it can't do anything with.

I purchased this sub for my golf cart. Really easy and pumps out ample bass crazy as that sounds. You will need three things A power wire with a fuse coming from your battery tor speaker 10-12 Guage crutchfield guys may correct me on Guage of wire A remote wire coming off your alpine unit to your speaker And lastly you will need a set of good rca cables to run from your alpine deck to speaker. Installation of one speaker was relatively easy providing you purchased a wiring kit and the head unit had preamp jacks - which mine did. Installing 2 units is a little more challenging. If you are looking for more sound then i would install a larger speaker. If i recall correctly -I believe they have a 10 inch model. If you head unit has multiple preamp jacks - then just purchase another wiring kit. Another option is perhaps using the speaker leads but you may not get a pure clean sound. I am not sure that installing 2x8 inch speakers is the right way to go unless you have a space or other limitation. For the cost of 2 x 8's - you would be much happier with an enclosed sub box. Perhaps look st google or youtube for more information. If i were to do this again - i would have gone in another direction.

If I had to guess, because I don't have the Ford sub, that it is probably the same amount of bass. This sub doesn't hit very hard, but makes the rock and roll and other non bass centered music sound good at loud volumes. If I had to do it over, I'd get a bazooka.

I have it under the driver's seat of my 2014 Kia Forte so I would imagine a 4Runner would have a lot more room under the seat. Check out the dimensions under the specs to make sure. The hardest part about installing under the seat was getting a spot to anchor the ground wire without having to remove the whole seat. I was able to do it and have never installed any audio equipment before. I have been 110% happy with this sub - I wish I could put one in my other car as well.

Crutchfield folks are better qualified to answer. Really no good fit. Obviously, for best performance needs to be mounted. Mine is in my daughter's LX450 just floating around the cargo area. Mounting to the floor is not an option, as the vehicle has a third row of seats that are sometimes used. I believe that Crutchfield suggested the back of a seat as a mounting point if you want to investigate. In your case, I would just attach to floor if you do not mind the intrusion to your cargo space. The unit seems very durable and will tolerate some cargo on top of it if necessary. Not familiar with your vehicle, but if it has the small rear seats, perhaps is room under one of those - bass does not care where it comes from. Again, I defer to Crutchfield - have been dealing with them since 1977 and they are great. Good luck.

Most likely, yes. In a full size pickup, you should have numerous options for mounting this sub as it is pretty stealth. I put it behind the rear seat in a Tacoma just to give you some comparison. You only need to locate one speaker cable in your rear doors to give the sub the audio signal it needs. The bigger challenge will be connecting the power cable which will need to be fished up through the firewall, into the engine bay and connected to the battery. Crutchfield has all the tools you'd need to do it yourself plus videos. Still, I was more than happy to take the sub to a local shop and pay them to install it, especially given the tight working space of my Tacoma. The sound is impressive, especially for the size of the unit. You will notice the improvement right away. Keep your expectations realistic - it's not going to win any sound offs at the local mall parking lot - and you will be very happy. Then, of course, you'll want to ditch those Bose speakers but that's another post... Good luck.

I have a tacoma I bought, and it came withe the B-8PTD. I love the sound from it, but Ive noticed something, If I am off-road or even on a road with bumps, The sub cuts in and out. After I get out to check it, the power light isn't on. I tried reconnecting power wires, and nothing, most of the time, it would just have to sit, and when I got back in it, it was working, this time I noticed that when I got in it, after sitting all night, it wasn't working... I didn't know if anyone else had experienced the same problem, if so might have a solution?

I have mine in a Jeep Wrangler and I too had that issue after wheeling it pretty hard. Mine was an issue with the cable that plugs into the unit to control the bass level. I eventually replaced that cable and it solved the issue. I hope this was of some help.

This sub has three wires connection : One permanent power supplied from battery,one trigger power supplied from your stereo player to turn on the unit and last one is ground supplied usually from body ground.if your amp/sub lost connection from one of the three,it will not work.Check your connection especially the ground connection from amp/sub mounted to body.Sometimes under excessive vibrations it became loosed created bad or no ground supplied to this unit intermittenly..if all connections are good,suspected internal components connection issues and it may need to be repaired or new unit need to be installed.Hope this help.

I don't have the same vehicle as you, but was able to use the RCA outputs on the back of my Alpine head unit and run the cord under the floor mat for a clean look. Ran the power the same way. There were some rubber grommets that I passed the wires through. The sub itself takes up very little space and that went under the front passenger seat. Overall sound from the dub was decent, nothing that will rattle your windows, but provided a nice low end for the 4x6 speakers in my F-150. I'm not a professional installer, so it took a couple hours. Hope this helps

We didn't measure the space under the seats in Ford Escape we researched. We measured the rear cargo area under the cargo cover. If I had to guess, it will be a close fit as this powered subwoofer has a foot print that is 9-1/8" wide and 13-5/8" deep. It needs 3-1/8" for height. It fits perfectly in my 1993 Silverado. Under the rear seat, on the opposite side of the jack compartment. They make special boxes but they are really expensive. I took out the center console and ran the wires under the carpet. But no harness, just the amp installation kit separately.

It probably depends on the size of your car, but I would say probably not. This sub rounds out the bottom ranges nicely but doesn't "hit" like bigger setups. Does improve the factory setup though

Not a signal wire. I just ran one wire from the back of my head set to the sub and one wire from the sub straight out to the battery that has a fuse in it.

I just installed this sub in a 2015 GMC Sierra. I tapped into the rear speaker wires. I did not install a remote turn-on lead at first. The sub only turned on momentarily and then would not work at all. I called Crutchfield technical support and they said this was a common problem. The solution is to go ahead and install the remote turn-on using a switched power source. I did this and it works flawlessly now. Don't forget to turn the 'Power Mode' switch on the sub to 'Remote Wire'. BTW this is the 3rd one of these subs I have purchased. It is a great sub for the money.

The spec sheet says it can do this operation thru the high frequency wiring (speaker wire); however, I attempted this install and the power on was intermittent. It would sometimes turn on and sometimes would not. I ended up just running the remote connection to my fuse box and tapped in to one of the fuses that turns on with the ignition...in my F150 was the seat warmer fuse, which my truck does not even have. Good luck.

The Sound Ordnance powered sub requires its own power and ground connections. You should run a power cable directly from the battery to the sub. Also, you need to install a ground cable from the sub to a metal part of the chassis. You need to buy a good quality Amp Power Kit which contains both power and ground cables (I like the Rockford Fosgate 10 AWG). You will definitely need some type of signal wire to turn the sub on.You should have a connection on your new head unit's wiring harness. A backup plan is to connect to the red (ignition) wire. Hope this helps. You have bought a very good sub!

You should be able to use your existing wires, just make sure you have an inline fuse in the power wire. You will need a signal wire from your subwoofer to your head unit so it comes on when you turn the head unit on.

I would run new, they need to be the right gauge wires, factory won't be. For signal wire I would use remote power lead that comes from your aftermarket deck.

My install did not have any pre existing factory wiring so I had to run everything from scratch. I do not see any reason that the factory wires might be fine to use. I would call the manufacturer to be sure

The power and ground may work for this new set up. If it were me, I would run new wires as the factory ones are as cheap as you can get. However, this set up does not need crazy thick gauge so it may be okay. You do need a signal wire, I spliced from my fuse panel for this. Just pick a fuse that turns on with the ignition, I used the seat warmer fuse. Feel free to ask anything else. I really like this set up, it is exactly what I wanted for my system. Def not something trunk rattling but upgrades it from stock for sure.

Not sure this will help but I installed this sub in a 2002 Honda Accord. I put the sub in the trunk, just behind the rear seat. Ran all the cables on the passenger side, underneath the door thresholds. The only significant issue I had was finding the firewall penetration for the power cable to the battery. Once I found the rubber grommet that covered the hole, everything went pretty smooth.

According to the Crutchfield web site the dimensions are 9-1/8"W x 3-1/8"H x 13-5/8"D. I haven't measured mine but those numbers look right to me. I have mine located under the rear seat of a full size pickup truck (lot of room). My signal inputs are from RCA patch cables that are connected from the head unit (receiver) to the sub. I believe you can also connect this sub to your existing speaker wires using the line level inputs. Crutchfield has great technical advisors who can walk you thru this. This is a great powered sub for the money. Excellent sound and quality (note the warranty). It is not designed to 'blow the roof off' of your vehicle but it will add very good depth to your music at normal to moderately loud volumes. Highly recommend!

Dimensions are listed...Width9-1/8",Height3-1/8",Depth13-5/8"...this seems accurate based on my memory (vehicle was sold). I located under the passenger seat of RAM1500 without problem. You can go either way regarding source (speaker or sub-out of head). I used single sub-out of head. For the size and price, I was happy with it. Note that you'll likely have to route power all the way back to battery of vehicle.

The wiring kit they advised I get for this was a 10 gauge kit and I think it had a 30 amp fuse. But just just check the wiring kit they have to go with it and see what fuse it has.

I am in the same boat as you, I want to move my 8PTD over to my new 2015 F150 Screw. As far as know, no one has a harness for our stereo to give us the RCA jacks we need. So, the thing we need to do is tap into the rear speakers and tie that to the high level input on the sub. There is a thread for it on one of the F150 forums, just do a search for something like "2015 F150 adding subwoofer"

I bought this sub for my truck because it fit under the passenger seat it's not huge pounding bass but if you like a nice added base to a normal system it sounds great it's very adjustable work perfect for my situation again it adds a nice bass sound to a normal system, not for huge thumping bass

For an 8 inch compact sub woofer I would give it a nine. I was pleasantly supprised on the amount of bass. I was looking for something to fill the low end in more on my stock radio setup. People are supprised when they sit in the truck and see what is producing the bass. It is also easy to hide inside the vehicle for a stock look. I have installed one in each of the two trucks I own.

For the size of vehicle I installed this into (small 2 seat car), I would rate it at a 9. If the vehicle is any larger than two seat sports car or regular cab pickup, I think the sound will diminish drastically. If you are wanting heavy bass for a crew cab pickup, suv, or large four door car, this is not what I would choose.

I and my son installed one in a Ford Explorer, it was simple and straight forward. Hardest part was feeding the power cable thru the hole I drilled in the fire wall. Its a decent SW at a great size and price, its added a nice thump to the Kenwood headunit and 6x8 door speakers.

I Installed this under the drivers seat of my 97 wrangler. There is room, but I had a little extra because I have given the seat a "lift" for my daughter who is shorter. Ran a new power cable to the battery and remote power to the head unit. Get a good ground to the seat frame or body as close to the sub as possible. It sounds great.

I don't know about your Jeep Wrangler but I installed it in my Silverado. The hardest part was running the power cord from the battery to the unit. It took forever to find a viable hole through the firewall. Once the power cord is run and connected just pull your head unit and plug in the supplied speaker wires into the head unit and then run it to the subwoofer. Then plug in the volume control and there you go. It's as simple as that.

Find out the height of the seat to the floor the Crutchfield rep will know that information. The 1193 King cab Nissan truck it did not fit under my drivers seat so I returned it. I am not sure about the height of the 2006 Frontier King Cab but a rep will be able to tell the height of the amplifier it is pretty tall so do not forget to measure from seat to the floor and a rep will inform you the measurements of the amplifier is Good Luck keith

no. BUT. these are tough units. I have one in the floorboard of my wrangler, and this is not a mall-crawler jeep. I would just say go to whatever trouble you need to keep it as dry as possible. I would incorporate something using the bell-jar affect . Dude, you're gonna have to think "outside the saddlebag", it will be so worth it.

If you plan on playing your music at a whisper, then yes you could. Otherwise it is a no. The reason for this is that your radio usually has a 10 amp fuse and a 18 - 20 gauge wire (think really small) and amps will run 25 plus amps. This will constantly blow the fuse for the radio. Now you may be thinking "Hey, I'll just use a bigger fuse". Sounds great, until your dash starts to smoke and potentially catches fire. This would be caused by the wiring overheating. So as you can see, it is better to purchase a amp wiring kit and do everything right, then to try to go on the cheap and have nothing but trouble later (which in my experience always happens). I would not piggyback from head unit power. You need to run a dedicated power cable from the battery to the amp. The power wire should also be fused within a foot of the battery.

No interference at all. Make sure you run the power supply down one side of the vehicle and the speaker output down the other side as the directions instruct you to do. A little more work but no interference.

I have one under a 2014 Versa Note drivers seat. If you aren't sure take measurments and maybe even build a fake one with cardboard. This unit is unlike most subs that it was designed to fit under most seats.

Installed this yesterday on my 06 colorado under the rear bench seat. Everything is wire correctly; power from battery running down through the driver-side to the rear, remote turn-on also running on driver-side to rear, shielded rca cable running on passenger-side to the rear and the a 1 1/2 foot of ground cable bolted to the rear passenger seatbelt bolt. There is no paint on the ground side because I cleaned it up real good to get a good ground. So...the issue i'm getting is this annoying thump sound from the sub whenever the deck is turned on or off. Any ideas?

I was getting that with the original setup that was home done, but had the job finished off at a pro shop and the thump is gone now. Like William said though, it's just at startup and not that big a deal. I can't tell you what they did but they know how to wire car stereo.

Some after market decks have a remote turn on lead, and a power anteena lead. They're both usually blue so it's easy to mix them up, might want to double check them. If that doesn't work, try finding something else that is switched on with the radio, maybe the fuse for the radio?

I couldn't quite get it to fit under the front seats of my 2015 (JK) I ended up installing it in the rear floor compartment behind the rear seats. If fits in that little box perfectly. So much so, that i didn't need to bracket it, or anything. Just securely sits in the area with pressure.

i have an '06 wrangler, same jeep body style. I cut a piece of 3/4 marine plywood to fit the contour of the pan behind the drivers seat. The amp is sitting on top of the plywood. The plywood is only to raise the amp off of the floor a little to keep it from getting wet when water makes its way into the pan. That's gonna happen if you have a soft top and live at the beach. Used industrial strength velcro to attach amp to plywood to keep it from sliding around. Hardly ever have more than one person in back seat, so it works out. This is one tough amp and it sounds great. Two years of rain, sand, surfing and it hasnt missed a beat. An option is to mount on inside of tail-gate, but with a soft top, that location is a little more exposed. I keep a heavy plastic bag under the driver's seat for the occasional monsoon/no doors/no sides scenario. Usually i just throw a towel or two over the amp

You could wire them to other speakers the same way so that multiple speakers get the same signal but make sure u do both polarities correctly and the same. Also the power available to those speakers won't change so each will only get half whatever it had to start out with.

Yes all of this can be hooked up at home using a PC power supply, and some ingenuity! I have done this in the past, it can work very well. I highly suggest to look for instructional videos on YouTube, you will find many there.

You just need to find a regulated 12 volt dc power supply that can deliver about 10-15 amps. That should be powerful enough for the sub and a moderate radio. These power supplies are electrically clean, linear, and commonly used by cb and ham radio guys because they don't produce any hum that would then bleed into your gear. You then just plug the power supply into the wall and you are ready to start hooking up all the stereo gear. That said, the sound ord box isn't built for a large room in a house. It won't sound as good as a regular sub box built for homes.

I have two questions: 1. How does the performance of this 8" powered sub compare to an 8" sub that is not self-powered but already in a self-contained box about the same size? 2. I have a '91 Accord. Where is the best place to put this sub, under the seat or in the trunk? If I put it in the trunk, won't the sound be muffled? If I put in under the seat, won't the person sitting on top of it feel the bass too much? As you can probably tell, I am at a loss here.

1) I haven't had both styles, but I've heard the self-powered can be a cleaner sound for low power radios because it doesn't draw all it's power from it. 2) Unless you have some kind of opening it'll probably muffle. Mine is under my seat, and it sounds fine. Locate the remote control near you and you can adjust it for your comfort. I found that I need to do this a lot, my playlists have a lot of difference in response.

I put this sub under the rear seat of my F150 and I'm very happy with its performance. Never a complaint from the rear passengers considering how thin those seats are and you can adjust power levels accordingly. I play load rock and blues and occasionally rap. I have no experience with the difference between self contained or powered.

I placed this sub-and-amp directly under the front seat of my 2006 Nissan Frontier. I originally had them place it directly between the two seats, but the techs moved it as it wasn't sounding good. NO trunk. Not that kind of sub. You're better off with a traditional component setup or a Basooka setup in that case. Under the driver's seat will work - but bear in mind that it works best in minimal space - think roadster (miata) or truck cab. I hope this helps!

I am considering purchasing this unit for a 2007 GMC Sierra extended cab pickup. The factory speakers were rated at 8 ohm impedance in the front, and 4 ohm in the back. I've already replaced the rear speakers with 8 ohm Alpine speakers, and their bass response is rather poor because of the high impedance. I'd like to tap into the rear speaker lines for this unit, but I'm unsure how it will perform in this setup. Any advice? I'm still using the factory head unit, so I'm unable to use signal level input with out additional hardware to convert the line level signal. Thanks.

Invest in the line converter hardware. I used a line level converter on my factory head unit and after I followed instructions on how to get the right bass sound, it was great. Great sound for a compact unit. Be sure to follow instructions on how to use the features to get the best sound.

You can mount the unit under seat or in the trunk. Purchase the wiring adapter specifically for your vehicle. The unit comes with complete in instructions, but you will need to find the best place to run your power from your battery. In most cases you can get this information as a how to on YouTube. It will show you how to get the wire through your firewall to the sub. I am very happy with this unit overall. It provides the punch I wanted in combination with the after market receiver and four speaker upgrade I had already purchased from Crutchfield.

If you have audio outputs at the radio that's supposed to be the best way to tie it in. My car doesn't have that, I used crimp connectors that hold the wires and then crimp onto the existing wires. I bought these at an auto parts store in town, the "tap-it" connectors I initially tried had bad connections, possibly because of the wire size the factory used. I put the amp under my seat with the velcro and it's worked out ok. I would definitely use the remote volume control, my cd/radio/usb all seem to have a little bit different response, and it beats trying to reach under the seat to adjust it all the time. Tie the power in so it comes on with the ignition switch, the auto-on function can give some delays that sound funky, and I don't think cycling the power on and off like that is all that good, either. If your speakers are easy to get to, try them with and without the filter caps to see which sounds the best to you. The filter caps reduce the low frequency response at the regular speakers and allow more power to the amp, but it didn't seem to do that much for mine, and might have rolled off too much mid response on my system. In any case, I've had little problems with it, and you'll like that extra punch in the sound.

You do not need an amplifier with the B-8PTD it is built in to the unit & is fully adjustable for any system. The only thing you need is an amp wiring kit. However, if you have aftermarket head unit & speakers installed in your vehicle you might want to get the Alpine KTP-445U Power pack to boost the sound of your other speakers it is awesome & easy to install.

no it has a decent class D amp in it already. i have 3 of these. only one had a problem after 1 year it would cut out. within 3 days i had a new one sitting at my front door. crutchfields cutomer service is what seperates them from the compititon. oh and as long as your not listening to hip hop it will perform flawlessly. enjoy....

It has line-level and speaker-level inputs so you can tap into existing speaker leads. It also has auto-turn off plus the ability to power on and off via a dedicated lead off the car radio. You still have to run power to it from a high current source but it can be remotely turned on and off.

I am not sure, but I think when you run the big blue power wire from the sub thru the firewall to your battery, when you turn on your ignition the sub will automatically cut on. You may want to check with and ask an installation or technical advisor from Crutchfield. I do like the sub, it is pretty good overall considering sound, size, and price.

It is easy to hide the wire in 2nd gen Tacoma. I own two Tacomas and installed one of these subs in each behind rear seat. Trucks look stock with these subs installed.

It definitely controls the volume and does it very well. The knob came loose on mine and I had to remove the black metal know and glue it back to the white knob below. Before I did this, the loose knob didn't seem to do anything.

Chuck, I have mine hooked into the head unit with RCA style cables. The remote serves as a separate volume for me, kind of like the bass boost function on some head units. Since some passengers don't prefer as much bass, it's nice to have the option to tone it down without going into the settings or messing with the gain on the sub itself.

Hey Chuck, It's a remote bass boost level control for those inevitable times when the final mixdown of certain albums/bands/musical types have varying bass levels. I run mine off the RCA inputs, but it shouldn't make a difference which inputs are used. My bass boost level ON THE UNIT is set at about 50%, and the remote knob makes enough of a difference to level out the boom across the different bands I listen to. Try maxing out the bass boost control on the UNIT, and then use the remote knob for final adjustment at the dash. This may give a wider sweep to the knob control knob. Hope this helps

A quick measurement of the clearance under your front seats and a check against the dimensions of the B-8PTD will give you your answer in a couple of minutes. I found plenty of clearance under the passenger seat of my old 2009 Focus SES (effective and easily-tuned reinforcement of the bass, too, complementing nicely my Boston Acoustics upgrades over the factory door speakers). In my earlier experience with undersea sub installs (1980 VW Rabbit and 1992 Ford Escort), I found that the passenger side front seat tends to have fewer fit problems, as that side is less likely to have height adjusters that can lower a seat onto the sub. Soundwise, there shouldn't be much difference between the two front seat locations, as bass frequencies are mostly non-directional. Might be a bit of difference in the bump the sub delivers to your rump, if you like that sort of thing. But it's only an 8-incher, so it won't loosen your colon much.

It will not fit under the seat. The only place it will fit is in the trunk. I installed the B-8PTD in my Toyota xtra cab pick up behind the drivers seat. I installed a MTX RT8PT in the trunk of my FR-S because it is front firing and pointed directly at rear of back seat for better sound transfer. It fit nicely on right side of the trunk. I suggest adding sound deadening material to trunk and inside of rear fenders and trunk lid as there is none from the factory.

I only bought one - so I do not know. They work best under the seats - doesn't work too good exposed, even behind a short cab pickup. Honest - if you can fit larger/more specialized components, you'd be better off. Hope this helps.

I can't answer that, I only put one in which is more than enough for a small truck, I imagine that putting two in is just like doing one but just hooking up two to the same terminals, such as the battery and the back of the stereo. This unit is nice because it fit right under the passenger seat, out of sight.

Agree with Robert on the crossover setting; found that clarity improved by setting the sub's output to a rather low value. Still gave good extension to the low bass while avoiding muddiness and boom.

I set everything at about 80hz and let the sub handle everything below that. I am able to control almost everything from the Radio. The only time I find the sub a little annoying is when the D.J. is talking. I must say I love this product. The overall sound is very full and complete.

The short answer is that I dunno. I had it professionally installed and they set all the switches in the back. I have no idea if it is optimal. Sorry for the useless answer! For what it is worth, I think the sub sounds great--hence I never really tried to mess with the fine tuning.

So the mounting consists of the velcro on the bottom of the unit sticking to the carpet? Or am I missing something?

I glued 12 small wood screws to the bottom like carpet spikes. I have the sub sitting on the carpet of the transmission "hump" under the dash. It is heavy enough that it doesn't move. Sound is great - even in exposed location.

You're missing something. It also comes with two tabs. About 3 or 4 inches long that have 3 screw holes. They fit on either end of the unit and you insert the supplied screws. depending on where you mount it and your application, you may or may not need these mounting clips. If you mount it in an open air type environment I suggest using them in the event of an accident you don't want this thing flying through your vehicle. Under the seat just use some Velcro to prevent it from sliding around. If you install it in a HP car, I suggest using the mounting clips no matter where you mount it.

The mounting is Velcro. I didn't mount mine under the seat so i drilled holes in the 4-corners of the base and used screws.

Correct - I mount it that way. Using only the velcro strips. I cut the strip in half with scissors and use it on 2 opposite sides. If you want more velcro so you cover all 4 sides, just hit up Home Depot or Lowes for more. It really is a nice way to mount because its super easy to remove and reposition without drilling holes or anything messy.

Yes, attach the strips to the bottom of the unit then stick to the carpet! It's not my 1st choice for mounting an amp but it works just fine, plus I didn't really want to drill holes in my floor anyway! Good luck!

That's it. In my case I am using it in an RV and it is not secured to anything. It lays on carpeted floor under a seat.

Mine didn't come with any velcro, i strapped it down with some black fabric strap from an hvac supply house. But velcro from a hobby shop would work fine i think

Not sure what you mean, "linked together in one vehicle?" If you're referring to using this low-profile sub with a good line out converter and a stock (and probably aftermarket) head unit, the answer is yes. Be sure to get a good line-out converter if you're using the stock head unit. I ran mine from a Chrysler MyGig, HDD, NAV unit. Line Out converter and no amp. Sounded great. This sub has a small bass control knob that can be mounted just under dash above right knee. Plenty of clearance. Looks good. Be sure to read instructions (there's an online video too) on how to adjust bass output.

I saw this done on a F-150 Supercrew, the RCA output was split at the rear of the truck. Make sure you run a power wire and a ground wire that can support running two amps.

I've got a JVC KW-NSX1 with a dedicated subwoofer output. It's only a single RCA plug. Would it work with this product? Would I simply connect that to the Left channel RCA input only or would I need to split it and connect to both L and R?

You could connect to only the left input, but it would be better to use an RCA splitter to connect to both the left and right inputs.

Yes Chris, this powered sub has speaker-level inputs. You can install it a couple different ways, depending on your preference or ease of access to wires. It comes with everything you need to install it except speaker wire. The lead they give you is short, so you'll probably need some. You can run it off of either the front or rear speaker lines or one of each if you want, front left & right rear or vice-versa. Your basically just tapping into it to get a feed to your sub so if you use both front or both rear it's going to work with your fader to fade the sub. If you have kiddos that would be in the back put both rear leads, so that if they need it quiet you can fade to the front & it'll turn the sub down without having to lower total volume or use the bass control knob.

Yes, I kept my factory radio and used the input speaker harness that is included with the equipment. You will need to splice onto the positive and negative speaker wires connected to one left and one right speaker. I used my two rear speakers. But you can use the front speakers if they are easier to get too, but I doubt they will be.

you can order an rca splitter. it has one male connection and 2 females(radio shack sells them). you can run the sub off one of the female connections. i assume this is what you meant? that your radio only has 2 sets of rca connections not 3 for the sub. its not ideal, but it does work. with the sub it has the dial you can control output with. works well. not for hip hop or booming bass but works well for rock music.
