Half-baked beautiful buggy brick

Half-baked. That is how I would describe the Cambridge Audio Evo 75. The sound quality is great and I appreciate the compact size and attractive build, but the interface is frustrating and the physical controls on the Evo 75 do not work reliably. Lately, the Evo 75 has gone from bad to worse in this department. I press a control button and nothing happens. I turn the very large volume dial and nothing happens. The mode selector ring is still working reliably, but the other buttons and control knob cannot be counted on. Imagine you get a call and you need to turn off the music so you go for the volume knob and turn it and turn it and nothing happens so then you have to fumble for the remote control. If it were not for the app and the remote control working okay, this thing would be useless. And, I have zero confidence that this equipment will last for years. It feels like I made a bad investment. As it is, I would not recommend this product. I have the latest firmware and I will continue to update. If things improve, then I will update this review.

Pros: Looks Sound Compact form factor

Cons: Unresponsive physical buttons and volume knob Frustrating interface

Not rocking my boat, but nevertheless great sounding for the money!

The Evo75 is my first Cambridge Audio product. My main system consists of audiophile entry level stereo separates of British origin that I have had for 20 years. I added an iPad and RME DAC to that system for streaming. We like the sound of this system best, except my wife does not like all the cables behind it. "Bingo!" I thought and said 'let me take care of that'. So I ordered the EVO and, too funny, the Evo's packaging reads "For people who listen" (to their wives, right?) My second system consists of a Marantz PM8006, ND8006 and Monitor Audio Silver 300 speakers that I got at Crutchfield 3 years ago. Either system does not match up to my 20 year old system with regard to clarity, accuracy of timbre and listening fun. But that old British system also costs inflation adjusted 9x the Evo75. Comparing the Evo to the Marantz gear is a fair comparison, though. In short, the Evo comes across as more balanced, has a bit better timbre, especially with strings and brass, has more depth in the sound stage, sounds more laid back and relaxed, but at times sounds a bit timid. The Marantz sounds great, too! It is emotionally more engaging but also can cause me listening fatigue after an hour. I don't feel the Silver 300s are the best match for the Marantz, but they definitely are an excellent match for the Evo75. Would I buy the Evo again? Yes - It's an excellent sounding and well made box for the money! Would I buy the Marantz again? Yes - but not at today's increased price.

Pros: Excellently designed, well made and very protecting shipping box by Cambridge! Top notch gear appearance - solid design. Brilliantly fine tuned volume control. Very balanced sound, good spatial and deep sound stage. Very relaxed sound. Absolutely no listening fatigue in combination with my speakers.

Cons: The musical reproduction is a bit timid, a bit too smooth maybe; it is emotionally not very engaging when listening casually. Critical listening however is a lot of fun with the Evo 75. Remote control too slippery - control buttons hard to see and feel, especially for the older generation. Would be nice to also have a mid range level control in the Stream Magic App.

Super easy to use, seamlessly integrated with streaming services, Roon, and internet radio. Driving a pair of Harbeth P3ESRs as my office desktop rig and it sounds awesome!

Sounds heavenly with my Klipsch Heresy speakers. I can promise you that you will not need more than 75 watts. I love the Cambridge stream magic app. Offers you fully decoded MQA (green or blue light) with no remotes necessary. Also sounds great with blu rays and video games. It also improves the sound of lossy Dolby digital through up sampling.

Pros: Chic,32/384 DAC,Fully decoded MQA,Tidal,stream magic app,convenient

Cons: Sometimes the sound briefly (almost instantly) skips a beat with blu ray discs, have not yet figured out why. Never happens with streaming shows or with music.

Easy set up and detailed sound. For a class D it has mild sound that will make your foot tap. The app is easy and the integration with Spotify and Tidel is excellent. I power a set of 705 S2 and while I feel the 150 could power them more the 75 is perfectly fine and never sounds strained. Screen is bright and clear the build quality is top notch. I look forward for the CD transport to explore the even more detailed sound.

Sounds fantastic, warm, rich audio. The interface though is not great. Sometimes the StreamMagic app won't find the EVO even though it is currently connected to the internet and playing music. Other times the Tidal connect app won't respond to tidal app on my iPhone while playing music. Sometimes it won't shut off when idle and then other times, it works great. It's unfortunate to have a buggy interface on such an expensive product.

Pros: Sounds amazing

Cons: Interface is buggy

Excellent sound quality. Streaming services integration has been done as flawlessly as possible. In retrospect, I should have opted to go with the 150W version. If only to give me some 'wiggle' room. Fortunately my speakers are extremely efficient. But I might regret not having more available power if that wasn't the case.

Pros: Easy setup Excellent sound quality

Cons: None

The Evo 75 is simply amazing. From its beautiful and stylish look to its incredibly clear and visually accessible LCD screen to its flawless versatility in streaming Lossless audio in virtually all formats. I have paired it with the new Eco S speakers that perfectly complement this newest of Cambridge Audio products. I could not be happier.

Pros: Beautiful and Stylish. Easy to set up. Sounds utterly amazing.

Cons: App can be a little quirky.

I bought this integrated amplifier to replace a significantly more expensive, and unfortunately broken, product from a US manufacturer. I was prepared for a lesser sound. I am pleased to report quite the opposite! Wonderful rich sound and dynamics, and a perfect pairing with my Mac mini Roon server and Harbeth 30.1 speakers. Crutchfield provided an easy online shopping experience and free fast shipping.

Pros: Sound. Setup. Quality.

Cons: None.
