The Minx C46's tiny size makes it easy to mount discreetly almost anywhere.
Clear sound from a discreet source
Cambridge Audio created the Minx C46 for people who love great sound but not the clutter of speakers. With a mere 3" mounting diameter, these in-ceiling mighty-mites make a virtually invisible choice for enjoying open, natural sound for music listening, as well as clear movie dialogue and special effects when used as part of a 5.1 surround sound system. Their small size also makes them quick and easy to install, and the grilles can be painted to blend seamlessly into your home. Be sure to add one of Cambridge Audio's powered subwoofers for true, full-range sound with room-filling bass.
Cambridge Audio's BMR (Balanced Mode Radiator) disperses sound over a wide area for a more enveloping listening experience.
Engineered with passion
Based on the highly regarded Minx Min 11 satellite speakers, Cambridge Audio engineers carefully designed the Minx C46 at their London facility to deliver refined sound. These speakers rewrite the rulebook of what's possible from miniature in-ceiling speakers thanks to BMR (Balanced Mode Radiator) technology. BMR drivers use a flat speaker surface that combines the traditional "pistonic" movement of speaker cones with a "bending-wave" movement to create sound. It's what allows the Minx C46 to cover a much wider frequency range than comparably sized speakers. You'll also experience much broader sound dispersion across your entire room, for a more enveloping listening experience. Plus, the speaker's compact, integral metal enclosure provides consistent performance wherever you mount them while reducing sound leakage into adjacent rooms.

Cambridge Audio Minx C46 reviews
These speakers sound great. I'm running seven of them as all channels of an Atmos setup in both walls and ceilings along with two 8" in wall subwoofers. Installation is super easy, just cut a 3" hole, hook up wires, bend the clips back and put them in the hole. Rotate a bit to get the clips to grab the sheetrock and you're done. The only downside is the 120hz frequency response. I have mine crossed over at 100hz and my subwoofers are low pass at 100hz as well since the sub didn't sound as good at 120hz when I only had one sub hooked up (seemed to be able to audibly locate the sub). This probably leaves a 20hz gap in sound from 100-120hz but not very noticeable. I might go back and readjust the crossovers since I've got the second sub hooked up and the directionality of the sub shouldn't be as noticeable now. A little more tuning and listening to them some more with a wider variety of movies and music will probably make me even happier with my purchase than I already am!
Pros: Size/low visual impact Good sound
Cons: Low frequency production

Bought these and they will be replaced. Sound quality is abysmal. Sorry Crutchfield, I've been buying products from you since late 80's, and this speaker is not up to your standards. The only redeeming quality is the small size. I suppose they could be used in a very modest HT setup.

I'm not an audiophile, but this speaker produces great sound from a super small foot print. I bought this as it was just about the only in wall speaker that could fit in my center channel application. I'm glad I did, installation was very easy, just drill a 3" hole with a hole saw and slide it into place. In the photo it is mounted below a 60" TV.
Pros: Easy install, great sound

I have a 7.1 setup using 8" 2-way ceiling mounted speakers as my surrounds. They sound great in their own right, but it's kind of like an assassin using a bazooka, it gets the job done but I was looking for a cleaner way to get the job done. I was also tired of all the insulation, dust, and debris that would collect on the speakers from the attic. That's when I found these little beauties. Have to admit, I was skeptical on how these tiny things would be able to fill my 20' x 25' space. Installed them last night...WOW...absolutely brilliant! I can now here definition and clarity that I hadn't heard before. Installation was a breeze, just used a 3" dia hole saw, plugged in the wires, and dropped them into the holes. My other speakers were fine but it was like "good at everything, master of none". These speakers are truly masters as surround speakers. Now I have to go master patching those MASSIVE 8" holes in my ceiling.
Pros: Brilliant Sound Brilliant Design Sealed Enclosure
Cons: Wish the wire terminals were a bit bigger

These are small 3" diameter speakers. They were chosen for the aesthetics of their small size. They are the same size as the recessed can lights in this renovation. For their size, they do a good job of providing background music. Not a lot of bass but not bad,
Pros: small size, good tone
Cons: not a lot of bass

These are great surround speakers! I was pleased with the ease of installation and the sound quality. For such a small speakers, they can really put out some great sound. I paired these with Aeromax 2's for the front channels and a Aero 5 center and a Minx X200 sub. I am more than pleased with the quality of these speakers and Cambridge Audio overall.
Pros: Great sound from a small speaker, very good for surround speakers, easy installation in ceiling.

BMR (Balanced Mode Radiator) Technology: The Cambridge Audio Minx C46 in-ceiling speaker features a single 2.25" BMR (Balanced Mode Radiator) driver. The Cambridge Audio BMR driver utilizes patented 'bending wave' principles normally seen in advanced flat-panel speakers, combined with piston-movement (backwards and forwards) like in a traditional speaker design. This type of design provides the Minx in-ceiling speaker with a much wider frequency response and deeper and more powerful bass frequencies, plus incredibly spacious sound. The BMR driver design also adds value by delivering a much broader sound dispersion across the entire room, avoiding the typical "sweet spot" pitfall, for a more enveloping sound.
- Rubber Surround: The 2.25" BMR (Balanced Mode Radiator) driver employs a rubber surround for added durability and excursion.
- Neodymium Magnets: The BMR driver utilizes ultra-compact push-pull neodymium magnets for greater efficiency.
IP65 Certified: Fully tested to IP65, the Minx C46 in-ceiling speaker is suitable for high humidity and dusty environments. Its IP65 rating ensures that no dust or water can pass-through and a fitted gasket swells under exposure to heat to block smoke.
Magnetic Grille: The Minx C46 includes a magnetic mesh metal grille that is paintable.
Spring-Clip Speaker Terminals: The Cambridge Audio Minx C46 in-ceiling speaker is fitted with spring-clip speakers terminals to attach your in-wall speaker. The spring-clip terminals will accept bare wire (up to 16AWG) and pin-connectors.
Mounting Options: The Minx C46 in-ceiling speaker requires a cut-out of 3" in diameter and mounting depth 3.75" of depth. Two spring-loaded mounting clips (one on either side of the Minx C46) secures the speaker in the ceiling. The Minx C46 in-ceiling speaker will fit into a standard 3" ceiling spotlight mounting hole.
Applications: The Cambridge Audio Minx C46 in-ceiling speaker is incredibly versatile and can be used as a virtually invisible surround speaker solution as part of a Minx 5.1 system, installed around your home to bring music discreetly to every room, or used in arrays in a commercial environment to provide an even spread of sound.
