Small with big sounds
Elmer from FAIRFIELD, CA on 3/3/2023
Small with huge sounds, doesn't rattle my wall. Perfect with my Cambridge CXN V2 and CXA81 with Q Acoustic 3020i. Now i stream more to my Cambridge than my HT 5.1.4 I have Q acoustic slim sub, but this Cambridge hits hard. Comparing it to my Polk 10" which sounds faster, the Minx 301 sounds so smooth. Comparing to my SVS 1000 pro this punch better with its size, I have other subs, but this is one is my Favorite to combo with my Cambridge CXN and CXA81
Pros: Big sounds for its size
Cons: I couldn't think of any

Fantastic, especially for classical music
Robin from Philadelphia, PA on 1/19/2023
After roughly 24 hours, I would say that this subwoofer is even better for me than I'd hoped. I 'd been planning a gradual upgrade from my current living room setup: a Zvox 670 soundbase, supplemented by a very old Totem sub. Sony TV and Marantz network streamer hooked to it. I was thinking the Cambridge sub would be the first step in moving towards an Atmos system. I added a Nuvo wireless connection to this order, in order to hide the sub. For music, I listen to classical and love watching the Berlin Philharmonic through their Digital Concert Hall. So the first thing I tried was a an archived performance of Strauss' Zarathustra, as it features massed double basses, brass and an organ. I was stunned at the improvement to the overall system aside from the subwoofer bass, which I expected to be excellent. Then I tried a few scenes for from Lord of the Rings to see how it handled stampeding horses, etc. Wonderful. Now I can delay the next steps until a good sale.

Highly Recommended
John from Erie, PA on 11/2/2022
I've had this subwoofer for several months now. It is the perfect size for my 15x14 room. It sits on a bare wood floor to the right of the tv stand and opposite a small couch and book shelves. Plenty of adjustments on the back and on my Onkyo A/V receiver let me fine tune what's playing. A larger sub than this would be too much for my needs and likely more expensive. The X301 adds fullness to the whole sound spectrum. It can shake the room if needed and adds depth to a wide variety of music and movies. It does exactly what a high quality subwoofer should do. With my Kef Q150s, I have an outstanding 5.1 system now. I can't say you should stop shopping and just buy an X301, but I will say that I am very glad I did.
Pros: Sound quality, size, value.
Cons: None at all.

Decent little sub for the pricepoint
Terry from SHALIMAR, FL on 9/24/2022
I got this smaller sub to replace an aging Yamaha SW160 sealed unit. It does a decent job of delivering the thump from movies and music. Not as punchy as the old Yamaha, but it's only got one active 8" woofer with a passive radiator vs. the old dual powered 8" woofers. It's smaller footprint makes it easier to fit under my desk, so that's a big plus.
Pros: Solid response for movies and music. Smaller size makes it easy to place just about anywhere in the room.
Cons: Not as loud as old Yamaha, but for it's size it does a good job.

Depends on the room
Elena from Santa Clara, CA on 7/27/2022
It sounded great once we figured out how to better place it in our environment, BUT: this subwoofer has floor facing woofer, and our room has wooden floor with crawl space underneath. As a result, the entire floor was vibrating creating distortion. If worked better in our room when we turned it on its side, which is definitely not what is intended. Also didn't match well with our speakers (KEF Q950) even though we weren't looking for a significant bass addition. I'm sure it would work great in a different circumstance though.

Blends well with satellite speakers
David from BOULDER, CO on 3/19/2022
Selected this one because of the extended UPPER frequency range; I needed something that would blend with satellite speakers that only go down to 120 Hz. VERY PLEASED! The X301 hasn't flinched yet at loud & low sounds. And my expectations that this would be a "very musical" sub. have been met. It's a vast improvement over the GoldenEar ForceField 3 which was powerful and played low Hz, yes, but the GoldenEar seemed dull - as though it could play only one note. Superb ordering, shipping, etc. from Crutchfield as usual.

Cambridge Audio Minx X301
Crutchfield customer from Okatie, SC on 12/5/2021
This was a perfect choice for a relatively small room. It's about as small as possible (roughly 11" square) and fits in a tight space. The bass output is surprisingly robust and works well with a pair of small front L/R speakers. The front-firing woofer and bottom-firing passive radiator worked well in my space and allowed for easy placement compared to the side-firing woofers in the SVS Micro 3000. The fact that the Cambridge is about half the price of the SVS makes it all the more attractive. SVS makes great products (I have 2) but for this application the Cambridge was the right choice.
Pros: Small size Front-firing woofer Robust bass output
Cons: None significant. Not for a really big room, but it's not meant for that.

Good Choice
Crutchfield customer from Asheboro, NC on 9/27/2021
This sub was a good choice for me because I needed a sub that was small that would fit in my bedroom and not take up much space. I matched it with my SVS Ultra bookshelf speakers and my Yamaha A-S2100 integrated amp and it sounds Great. The bass is not over powering so as to drown out my bookshelf speakers but it blends in as if the sub wasn't there but you can hear more bass.I am really happy with this purchase and I highly recommend this sub for smaller areas.
Pros: Easy to set up.Has good bass. Small footprint.
Cons: None so far.

Sweet n Tight Musical Bass
Doug from Clyde on 7/17/2021
Needed a sub to help my Evo 4.1s or my DBR 6.2s. The short is this X301 helped them both, but in the end it makes wonderful music with the DBR 6.2s. The 4.1s are a bit more critical than the DBRs. I think in the end the 6.5 inch driver of the Elacs matched better with the X301. Only music listening with these and it is warm and more than enough energy to enjoy. The 4.1s are sold and the 6.2s are here for a long while. Without the X301 I kept swapping between the two, with the X301 the DBRs are clearly more enjoyable. I do love the 4.1s a really really good unit. The X301 really enjoyable for music! For movies or music with LFE or both the SVS micro is a real consideration. But for 2.1 music this Cambridge is sweet! A thanks to Grant who helped with this choice.
Pros: Size Ease of use Subwoofer Disappears when tuned correctly.
Cons: None I wish I had a need for that SVS

Cambridge Audio Minx X301 - black lacquer finish
Crutchfield customer from Fountain Valley, CA on 7/9/2021
Small footprint, nice tight-bass; not boomy. Easy to configure & dial in your sound. Exactly what I was looking for in medium sized room, to add a bit to low-end of my bookshelf speakers. High quality unit. The black lacquer finish is very classy & well done. The feet keep it above the ground so the passive radiator can fire; no need for additional after market isolation accessories.
Pros: Well built, tight bass, easy to configure, sounds great after minimal break in time
Cons: None at this time. It is eight-inch, don't have unreasonable expectations, it does very well.

Small foot big print.
Michael from Greencastle, PA on 12/15/2020
Typically I wait at least a week or more to review a product but this time is different. The Minx x301 by CA was amazing right out of the box and exceeded my expectations. Build quality and finish is what I noticed first. Well done and all materials and knobs appear to be high end. Once hooked up I really noticed the tight clean and accurate bass. In my house it's a 50/50 split music and movies. This will satisfy both.
Pros: Material fit and finish. Very good sound. Clean, accurate bass.
Cons: Nothing

This thing will shake the house if you want it to or provide excellent, clean bass to fill out your home theater sound. Quick, natural, musical
Stephen J from HENDERSONVILLE, NC on 8/18/2020
Setup: NAD C328 integrated amp, Audiolab 6000 CDT, Wharfedale Denton 80th Anniversary speakers Tested: CD--Trimvirat "Spartacus", Daniel Lanois "Acadie", Stanley Clarke "Rocks, Pebbles, Sand" and "School Days", Gothenberg Symphony "1812 Overture"; Tidal--"The Yes Album" Results: I'm using the LEF subwoofer output on the amplifier. The X301 integrates beautifully with this system. The Dentons don't really respond well below 44 Hz, while the Minx extends that down to around 30 Hz, which is about all one needs to get the fulness of many different types of recorded music. It is quick and fills out bass and percussion with clarity. To get the best out of it, get it up off the floor onto some isolation pads. (The vibration in the flooring tends to muddy the clarity of the instruments.) One thing that I hadn't expected, the X301's solid underpinning greatly expands the soundstage on all music. I am very pleased.
Pros: Not obtrusive in size Excellent for all types of music
Cons: Of course we can always complain about the price, but it has improved my enjoyment, so why bother.

Don't let the smaller size fool you
Fred from WESTLAND, MI on 7/24/2020
I love this sub. I've owned it for 3 months and it just gets better and better the more I use it. I have it paired with a Denon S910w receiver and B&W 603 floor speakers. This sub fits in this setup like it was made for it. It's loud when it needs to be and subtle at the same time. Hard to explain but it just blends in perfectly with the B&W's. Like an enhancement and not something overpowering and dominating. This sub is happy playing anything from Meatloaf to old school r+b and rap. I haven't played any movies or TV sounds but it does great with soundtracks so I'm sure it will do fine I that situation too. Don't let the fact of the smaller size deter you from buying this. It does fine for the size and will probably put perform larger setups.
Pros: Great sound Small footprint Blends well with floor speakers

Excellent
Crutchfield customer from Somerville, MA on 6/1/2020
I love this little beast, and being white and compact my wife doesn't mind it so much in our living room. It adds wonderful bottom end to action movies, and a thumping presence to music. Great if style and space are a concern. It fills our 20' x 40' space well. It's bigger than I initially thought, but still small enough. See photo to compare with DVD player.
Pros: Small, white, wife approved.
Cons: Good for mid-range systems for listening at normal reasonable volumes. It started bouncing around on the floor when I tried cranking up the volume on thumping pop music, but I think I was probably pushing my whole 300 watt system way too far!

Whenever possible for audio electronics, I try not to buy black hexahedrons. In some cases I just have to paint or powdercoat a pair of speakers, for example. In rare cases - like with the Minx 301 - you get visual pleasure out of the box of your audio device. What a pretty little cube! AND, what a pretty big sound it makes! The active + passive radiator construction seems to make a major difference, and I was worried I was downgrading from a 10" sub into this... Zero worries. Room-filling sound, with excellent accuracy and responsiveness. Love it.

Zack W. from Ivy on 11/17/2019
I own three of these subwoofers. They are in my opinion the most awesome of any subs I have ever owned because they are so powerful and so small. Couple on of these with an SVS soundpath wireless subwoofer adapter and you have a seriously powerful set up. I have one under my bed for my 5.1, one in my kitchen in a cabinet and one in my office hidden under a sofa. They pump out bass and add the extra punch for a great package and price. Perfect for a set of bookshelf speakers or just needing something small but powerful to hide out of site. I think I'm gonna buy another one.
Pros: Small, powerful, great colors, solid design
Cons: no wireless option

Cons: A little pricey; setup instructions were lacking detail/descriptions.

Now there is a Minx Magician in my living room!
JP from Homer, AK on 11/12/2018
Art furniture quality appearance, formal room nice. This is a small sub, not as tiny as the X201, but in a similar scale. This X301 is driving a substantial 2 story cathedral ceiling open kitchen and living room from behind a leather sectional couch in a corner, without any strain whatsoever. Don't ask me how they engineer these tiny boxes to do this without erupting parts, much less without the tiniest squeak or rattle. I don't know what else I could ask for without causing sonically pure structural damage to my house. The sound is transparent with the Minx 22 surrounds and center in 7 channels, and it took me less than five minutes to unbox it, and plug it in for huge sound quality. For reference, I pulled up a very familiar project I worked on in the recording studio for a lordoftherings.com game soundtrack 15 years ago, with my friend, the composer. Considering all the digital signal processing improvements in the receiver and the sub since that day, I'd rather listen to it in my living room on the Minx system! If one X301 is not enough for your huge room, buy two! One is great for my place. Riding to save Gondor on thousands of horses expands my living room exponentially, with the Minx X301 providing Gandalf levels of great magic effect. Invisible and Impressive. The Minx X301 is Galadriel delightful when visible too!
Pros: Glossy beautiful enclosure, engineered for seamless and effortless huge sound output. The Minx X301 should be around for a long time. Not sure what could be done to improve this sub without doing something dangerous to the laws of physics. Perfect no effort sound crossover setup with Minx Min 22 satellite speakers. The perfect complement to nearly physically invisible sound from the 22's, this sub hides in plain sight also. The best solution for theater sound without big boxes everywhere.
Cons: Con if you didn't invite over neighbors to listen to music and movies on the Minx X301. Might sound better INSIDE your house or apartment, than from inside theirs. More than enough power to let them know what you are listening to at your place, though. Might be less thumpy than subs not protecting their drivers this well with digital signal processing, if you are used to those already. This sounds more like actual tympani being played, than other subs, sounding like drums being punctured.
