Outstanding clarity. Superior sound and definition. Highs are crystal clear and the muddiness of the low range is gone.

Stylus review sumiko Blue Point 2

Stylus review sumiko Blue Point 2 I received this yesterday . The tracking force on my turntable was setup for the Shure audiophile cartridge which was about the same tracking Force as required by the Blue Point and before I even changed it over to moving coil on my McIntosh 7200 and to celebrate my new Technics 1200 G turntable and my new Japanese acquisitions I pulled out Yo Yo Ma's Japanese Melody's LP. The sound started coming through my sonus Faber cremona M speakers and I knew that my new system is everything I knew that it could be. I'm just blown away. I don't see how I could have done any better. And I would like to mention the fine audioquest Evergreen interconnects connecting my Bowers & Wilkins DB4 subwoofer and to my computer, which I record MP3s and the audioquest type 4 speaker wires. Even though this is a moving coil cartridge you need to keep it on the moving magnet setting on the McIntosh cuz this is a high output cartridge. The specs on the box say 47 K ohms and that means 47,000 ohms. it can be used with almost any preamp new or old. I had tried out the moving coil settings, the sound was harsh .So I changed the setting back over to the movie magnet and reconnected my interconnects. I had just cleaned a bunch of my Stravinsky albums and put on the Firebird and the sound seemed kind of thin, that is until I turned the volume up and then it just got better and better. When the volume approached and exceeded 60% it did get louder but it also got bigger,

Pros: Very pleased !

Excellent Step Up in Cartridge Hierarchy

I just so happened to upgrade from the Shure M97xE as David did, the previous reviewer. I love the simplicity of the Blue Point in comparison. Easy to see where the "needle drops" with the cartridge's flat face and white marked center. Very different from the M97xE's Dynamic Stabilizer brush for which I never used. I can tell an improvement in sound quality right away. I also like the fact that this moving coil Blue Point is high output at 2.5mV. This means I can use my Bellari VP130 Tube Phono Preamp without excessive gain/volume. Very happy with that. Overall, terrific choice for an upgraded cartridge without breaking the bank. Used my Crutchfield Rewards Points as well. Thanks Crutchfield!

Blue Point No. 2

Wonderful Sound. Very musical, great stereo separation and imaging. This is my first venture into the "audiophile" cartridge world. Upgraded from a Shure 97XE. Wanted to see if all the talk about the Blue Point No. 2 was true and and at this price point it wouldn't break the bank. At first listen could tell I had stepped up to a new level of quality sound from my previous cartridge. Amazing!!! Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a great sound under $500.00.
