Great system, highly recomend

The unit is great. Paired with vehicle specific T harness and the RF 2 way kit. I was able to install by myself. I have moderate experience working on car audio systems and between the crutch field install sheet and the install guidance from Idatastart it was clean and clear with no guessing. I would have not been comfortable splicing into the ignition harness otherwise but as is it was an easy install done in about 2 hours. The system works flawlessly and has been great on my partner's car.

I'm so impressed with the ease of installation and performance of this remote starter! About 25 years ago I installed a remote starter in an SUV and swore I'd never do it again! Fast forward a quarter of a century and it's unbelievable how straight forward the installation is (thanks, T-harness!). The remote starter works great!

This is a great product that was easy to install with the additional t wiring harness. The weblink desktop app is great to use but would be great if there was more of a description of programming categories that were unclear. The factory keyfob works perfectly with the module to start the vehicle, just press lock three times and it starts the vehicle. Valet mode works great, just press the lock button three times, take the key out and it will continue to run the vehicle while you are out of the car. Everything worked as describe. The most time consuming item was accessing the BCM for the parking lights. The ignition access was easy to connect the T-harness and programing of the module to the car was very simply. I have never done a install in this vehicle. The installation of the Drone and Idatastart install took me around 3 1/2 hours and that included some followup research online.

Pros: Great product, simplified programing. Idatalink reliability

Cons: More documentation and description of programming in weblink would help installation.

Best Remote Starters You Can Get

Matthew from Canton, OH on 3/4/2022

2021 Toyota Tacoma

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I love iDatastart/iDatalink products. They are very intuitive and easy to install and program. They're also very reliable. I've put in many remote starts over the years and I must say, I don't miss the days of cutting and splicing factory wiring, or trying to find the correct wires with a logic probe or multimeter. The T-harness makes it a snap. For my 2021 Tacoma SR5 with standard key, I did have to tap into the two CAN bus data wires at the ECU, which I didn't like, but not a huge deal. Every vehicle is different. I installed the same setup on my wife's 2019 Mazda CX-5 and everything was plug and play. On my Tacoma, I didn't connect any other wires including the driver door pin and lights. I leave the lights on the auto setting and they turn on when the truck is remote started. My factory key does not unlock the doors when the truck is remote started, which I'm sure could be rectified by connecting the remaining wires. But, I have the Automobility MyCar telematics module connected to the remote start and I can lock/unlock the doors through the app, so I don't intend to tap into any more wiring. If need be, I could just use that ancient technique of putting my key in the lock cylinder and unlocking it. All in all, I've installed about a dozen iDatastart/iDatalink products and I really couldn't be any happier with them. They are the best I've found.

Pros: Intuitive and easy to install and program.

Cons: None really.

I have this module connected to a 2015 Mazda 3 with the T-Harness ADS-THR-MA3. I also added Firstech Drone X1-MAX-LTE for phone control. The T-Harness makes it really easy for near plug-n-play solution - only the parking lights and horn (optional) require splicing into. I only ran into one issue. The instructions say to first connect iDatastart into the car, wait for the green light, then disconnect it from the car and program it on a computer. THIS IS WRONG, you want to FIRST connect the iDatastart to a computer to flash the cars profile via iData software, THEN connect to your car and wait for the green light. After you get the green light, you will disconnect it from the car, and connect it back to the computer for "Extended programming". If you are using the supplied hood switch, it is in the extended program where you want to select "Analog" in the hood drop down option for the Hood switch to work properly. I am able to use my OEM keyfob and Drone Mobile app to remote start my car and don't have a single issue with it!

Installed this in a 2008 Santa Fe, which has no T-harness available. Installation was a bit difficult due to lacking instructions. Some of the wires were different colors or didn't even exist, such as with the immobilizer, which I found out that does not need to be connected in this specific vehicle. Crutchfield support was excellent with answering questions and helping me locate wires. Support always was available to help right away and both times I called I was able to talk to the same person. The actual module works very well and range is great with the 2-way remotes.

Pros: Works very well. Good range. Many options for optional features such as turning on defrost or heated seats.

Cons: The instructions provided by iDatastart aren't great and was quite difficult to install with the universal wire harness.

Worked great to add remote start to a Toyota that needs to get warm before my wife gets in on cold days. Flashing the module was easy if you follow the instructions and it seems to have a ton of options for adjusting things that different cars support like the duration of run time, setting up automatic warm ups based on temperature, turbo shutdown timers, etc. The instructions were a little light, but certainlky enough to get through the job. I'm really glad I bought the T harness as without it I would have had quite a bit of cutting and splicing to do, and with it I only spliced into 1 and added a sddcond one for a safety hood switch.

The item works great once we got it installed. There are no actual step by step instructions for the wiring harness but we did figure it out. Several items were marked NC, meaning not connected or "Not used" in plain English. Crutchfield called as soon as I ordered it to say there were three manual connections required which is customer service far and above anyone else! Given it was minus 10 degrees when we installed it, we decided to wait for warmer weather to make those connections which flash parking lights etc and are not essential to operation. I would recommend it for anyone that is a bit handy with electronics.

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I tried to install in a 2012 F150. Used the plug and play t harness so it's easy "right". Flashing software link didn't work . Instructions are vague so my attempt took multiple calls to Crutchfield support. It's unclear from the wiring diagram which connections are essential and which are optional. The programming takes both factory keys inserted and turned multiple times, an engine start, brake press while tapping a button on the unit. It's crazy and if you don't do it fast enough you need to reset the unit and start over. The final conclusion is the idata unit was faulty. I gave up and returned it to Crutchfield.

Pros:

Cons: It didn't work.

Tough Install

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I guess the device works as advertised, but the install instructions were terrible. I bought a set of wiring diagrams for my 2013 Explorer online... without them I wouldn't have been able to figure it out. The connectors were not in the locations designated on the diagrams, no indication of why a relay is needed for the T-Harness wiring, but not the hard-wired install, and no help on where to wire "horn" and "hood switch". Apparently I'm supposed to splice in power from the T-Harness? Why not just build it with the wire for the relay? Programming went fine, but the cable that Crutchfield sells is not the right one... just needs a regular micro USB. The book doesn't say anything about this. This morning I tried to connect to modify a parameter, but kept getting "Unable to connect: unknown error." After waiting on the phone for 1/2 hour for iDataStart tech support, I figured it out myself: Unplug from power and USB to cycle power on the device. Now it talks again. It's done now, but I regret not just taking it to the dealership.

Pros: Works

Cons: Apparently some folks have an easy install. I think it depends on the car. For me it was a real pain, owing mostly to the terrible documentation.

Biggest pile of junk. As the other reviews state , directions are horrible/vague and not detailed. Customer service? Hahaha well I bought this to put in my wife's car for her birthday so got up early to get it in first thing in morning. Gave myself about 3 hour buffer. Well get everything hooked up and to part of extended programming doesn't work. So go through it all over again including refreshing due to red-light in troubleshooting section. Go through all of it again now up to extended programming and error pops up. Go to try it all over again and now it can't detect it on computer. That's where customer service comes in ..... well you probably don't know as I didn't but in their 24/7 technical service dept. They have a "special" remote start team and I can expect a phone call in 48 HOURS. Save your money Go somewhere else and buy something else.

Pros: I didn't throw the piece of junk across the room

Cons: No remote start for birthday surprise. No help from customer service.

The iDatastart CMHCXA0 was a perfect fit for my Acura TSX 2010 as it starts every time and smoothly for that matter. After uploading the proper firmware, which is the first thing you should do when you receive the device, it was a breeze to install using the specific T-Harness for my car. The instructions were very clear in terms of installing and connecting the proper wires and the iDatastart software included additional resources/guides to make the install easier using pictures and wiring diagrams. Overall, I am happy with my purchase as it provided remote start on a budget but also the accessibility in the future to upgrade it with additional features such as alarm, security systems, upgraded antenna/remotes, or even remote start via phone.

great product. took 20 mins to install in my 2015 TLX. first time ever attempting a remote start install. NO you don't need internet explorer! NO you don't need Windows! YEs download the computer/laptop app. YES you need a mini-B USB cord, NOT the more standard Micro USB (think early 2000s). YES you need to flash it first before even doing anything else (and again at the end) NO Crutchfield does NOT send instructions and they just send you a link to iDatalink AFTER you complain to them because they are literally that lazy. They have no problem blowing up your phone before the item ships, then you tell them the car and all that, and instead of logging into iDatastart's website and pulling the data for your car and emailing the PDF ahead of time, they don't. They don't even have the USB Mini-B cord on the required items list (just the t harness for my specific vehicle info), or mention that on the phone. That being said, once you get the app downloaded onto your computer, you don't need anything else, it's a step by step thing, the install instructions and the proper firmware come up automatically and it's a breeze from there. Get the t-harness if available for your car, hard wiring won't be too bad, the instructions for what wires to hook to what are idiot proof. Have lots of posi taps ready to go though.

Pros: Easy install

Cons: none

Crutchfield nailed customer service as usual. Received a call from Travis soon after I placed my order, he let me know that he was including additional parts that may be needed for my install. He also answered a couple of questions I had for him. Someone here mentioned that you needed a windows computer with internet explorer. You DON'T! Upon receiving your unit, do a Google search for "iDataLink WebLink Desktop". You can download the software for either Mac OS or Windows! Unfortunately, they make it hard to find this software on their website. This unit with my T-Harness was pretty easy to install up until I got to the programming procedure. The instructions were missing that I needed to do the tach programming procedure first, then complete my vehicle-specific instructions (of which I only needed to do about 50% of). Spent longer than I should've trying to figure out where I went wrong with that. However, once I got it programmed to my keys, it worked perfectly!

Pros: Minimal splicing Takeover Can be used with factory key fobs

Cons: Some instructions were left out / wrong from iDataLink

Works as advertised, for most part easy to install. The T harness is a must, this way you don't cut any important wires with the exemption of the Keyless Module, wire are requires to cut to use OEM remote for remote start. Prior to installation I unpin unused wires, made the job cleaner and easier. Tab It connectors work great and clean connections, I purchased red posi-lock connector for inline connection and red posi-tab to attach to existing wire. To find the keyless module, you need to look above the green brake switch. The module is a black square box with a green connector. Have plenty of zip cable ties and tape such as Tesa wire loom tape, Tesa tape made the job look professional. Regarding the hood switch, I installed next to the battery along the fender (see picture). I recommend this product to anyone with a automatic TL. For Crutchfield, I recommend you provide option to purchase posi-tabs, this will make a one stop purchase.

Pros: Almost 100% plug-in-play system.

Cons: white /black black dot wire for the horn may be too short.

Wonderful! Works as advertised. Flashing was a breeze as was the programming once installed. The hardest part of the whole install was figuring out where to penetrate the firewall for the hood safety switch. Other than that the 2 manual tie-ins that were necessary were a snap and concealing everything was easy too. I'm looking into one for my wife's car now.

Pros: easy to program, Simple directions, easy to follow

Great Product, Hard Install, Bad Support

Crutchfield customer from HOUSTON, TX on 8/7/2021

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Great product, but it loses a star for difficulty of DIY installation and lack of proper Crutchfield technical support. It works as advertised, and from what research I have done, is the only aftermarket remote starter with a "takeover" procedure that will let you unlock the doors, load stuff, and then "take over" from the remote start sequencing without shutting the vehicle off - all critical for me, as I needed it to provide power to load/unload a mobility scooter using a vehicle-installed lift. However, when first parking and unloading the scooter for use, I do have to turn off the vehicle manually, then go through the remote start sequence to unload the scooter for use - after that, I am able to turn the vehicle off remotely, so a minor inconvenience at best. The installation was a MOTHER, though, as the two main connections for the 2016 Honda Odyssey are WAY up underneath the dash, behind the instrument panel, and in a bad spot where it is difficult to get to the OEM connectors. Finally, all Crutchfield could provide me was just a basic website link for the company, which DID NOT have any further links to the installation guides, and which oddly were not included in the box - I had to call the company to get access to those, as well as ask about two hardwire connections on the schematic. Overall, great product, but Crutchfield and manufacturer need to team up on better install guidance and support.

Pros: Works as advertised Can use OEM key fobs

Cons: Hard installation Lack of Crutchfield knowledge base and support

I have been wanting a remote start for my 2011 Acura RDX SH-AWD for years. I've considered paying dealer costs but those prices are too high. Having been a customer of Crutchfield since the late 90's, I knew that if I were to make this purchase that I would receive the instructions necessary to do it myself. Decided to give it a shot. And boy, am I glad I did! Total cost was about 1/3 the dealer price and only took a couple hours. So happy with this product and the ease of installation.

Pros: Mostly plug and play. Only needed to t-tap three wires.

Cons: Finding a place to mount the unit is sometimes tricky. But use zip ties and fabric tape and make it look factory.

I've used one of these a couple years ago for my wife's car and reading reviews I just thought I post this for some people. If you want to do this yourself and don't have a complete understanding of your cars electrical system The12volt website will be your best friend ALWAYS go here first. This is from alarms, remote starts, car audio or anything with electrical. If you can read the directions and follow diagrams you'll be golden any other minor issues a quick search will get you done. With these definitely get the harness but it's a bit pricey I think for this system everything is separate 2 way remotes gotta pay, harness gotta pay, new RF gotta pay a basic remote even gotta pay ect. Just my two cents but anybody getting this just go where I said you can sometimes go to idata and find some useful info on your vehicle as well. This should by NO means be hard to install update is a different story but install should be a breeze for anybody

Pros: System integration is very simple WITH HARNESS.

Cons: Crap firmware updates but .... That's really all of them honestly. But mostly to expensive for whole package ie RF, remote and harness to many extras you just simply get with other MUCH MUCH cheaper alternatives.

Terrible instructions and no support

First of all: the iDatastart requires an old PC to flash it. Do not think about firefox, edge, chrome or Mac. Must be an old Windows 7 with an unsupported Microsoft Explorer. And, also, you must have and old mini usb b cable. Second... There are no instructions. They send you a piece of paper and you have to go on line and find out where are these connectors and how to achieve them. I called Crutchfield twice and they could not help me. I am still waiting them to call me back as agreed ( Totally different when I installed my maestro and receiver). So, an installation of a device with 6 or 8 connections, become a 7 hour nightmare job. Basically you have to go on line and learn how people install (other brand) remotes and install yours. And during this period, in order to be happy, DO NO ASK yourself why you did not buy this other brand... So finally it works. I am disappointed with Crutchfield support this time and if I need to buy another remote start, I would try something different. And by the way, I consider myself and expert...

Pros: It works

Cons: Uses an old mini usb connection Requires a old browser to flash the firmware Instructions are incomplete

This is a really slick system. The idatalink configuration software gives a lot of flexibility in how you want the system to work for you. Using the T harness makes installation as painless as it can be. My wife's car only required 5 additional connections, which I soldered and heat shrinked. I did have some difficulties getting my windows 10 pc to run 7 year old software but after installing .net 2.0 and running internet explorer in compatibility mode, it worked flawlessly. I also had to go through the in-vehicle programming multiple times as it would not take on the first few attempts. Overall, if you have a basic understanding of vehicle wiring and can follow a simple schematic, you can do this.

Pros: Customizable

Cons: PC software could use a refresh

Nearly Painless Installation and Function

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

TL;DR: 2016 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring, using the specific T-harness that Crutchfield also sells. I would not have been able to do it without that harness. Worth the money all day for that! Programming was a little annoying, but hooking it up was mostly painless. You don't have to hook up the hood switch, parking lights, or horn for it to work. Installing in the CX-5 was not too bad. Two screws on the steering column and unsnapped the plastic surround exposing the start/stop module. Unplug the factory connectors and plug them into the harness, then plug the harness back into the module, then plug the harness into the remote start box and done. That is, if you did the programming right. You can pre-program it for the make and model before installation, but you have to do extended programming after installation. Then, you have to do the special sequence in the car so the takeover works. It took me a two tries, but I did get it to work finally. Takeover works as well so it doesn't turn the car off when you open the door. Only main issue I had was my own fault and kind-of a issue with the directions. It says to "rapidly" press the lock button three times to remote start. Well rapidly means fast right? So I'm doing it basically as fast as I can. WRONG, you have to do it slow. Like half an alligator in between presses. This was likely the reason the whole thing didn't work the first time I installed it. Whoops!

Pros: Mostly easy to install Works great Seamless looks, can't see that it's installed

Cons: Instructions unclear, starts lawnmower Rapidly does not mean fast? Programming is kind-of a pain

It turned out to be very easy to install. The T harness made all the difference, after I plugged that in, there were only a few other wires to connect. As some people mentioned you do have to flash the unit before install as well as after (the directions only mention the after). Crutchfield made it even easier by forwarding the vehicle specific install instructions to me with my order. A big thanks to Levi in their technical assistance department for recommending this product and sending the manual to me.

Pros: Super easy with the T harness Very good vehicle specific instructions Worked the first time

The install was a bit difficult, but that just had to do with the location of the modules I needed to interface with. Their whole T-Harness system is great I only had to manually tap into three wires, and run the wire for the hood switch. My only issue with the whole system is the instructions they allow you to print do not direct you to the iDatastart configuration site as the FIRST STEP. After plugging in the T-Harness I got to the programming step and the darn thing wouldn't work. Luckily the product manual I printed had a troubleshooting guide, which is how I realized I needed to do a base config and Firmware download from iDataLink config site, which ONLY works with Windows and Internet Explorer. No Chrome Firefox or Edge. So higher than average computer knowledge is necessary. Upon starting that process I discovered the site has way more detailed instructions for wire locations for the few wires you will need to tap into. For my car it was two at the headlight switch and one for the horn. There is even information should you want the system to trigger your rear defrost or heated seats on startup. You can even customize what button press procedure you want, if using your OEM remote, how long the takeover timeout is, and how long you want your car to run. I could not be happier especially since I just moved to the Mid-West.

Pros: 98% plug and play

Cons: Not for the Average Joe. Higher than average computer skills needed.

Great product, instructions are lacking in a major way

Robert from Coeur D Alene, ID on 1/18/2021

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Major flaw in instructions; you must program the module via the website, or downloaded software before install. Although there is mention of the programming in the description on the Crutchfield website, the instructions do not mention the prerequisite of flashing of the module before any installation begins. Once programmed with the correct vehicle, installation becomes a contortionist act for 6 foot tall person. If one would do the install a second time, the time to install would be 1 hour versus 5 hours struggling with poorly written instructions. Just remember to flash the module in the beginning with the correct vehicle, and purchase the T harness, and the install will be tolerable. Use of the website from the manufacturer for wiring diagrams for a couple of the wires was also invaluable.

Pros: Seems to function as a remote start using the OEM key fob just as intended.

Cons: Flashing instructions are lacking to say the least. I would wager that avid amateur, or semi pro skills are needed to install.

Very easy install. Flashing the module took a little more effort due to having to download internet explorer, but once that was complete the flash took just a few moments. If using the OEM remote, be sure to change the factory remote start setting. It is defaulted to disabled, which prevents your stock key fob from starting your vehicle. Once this was discovered and re-flashed, the unit worked like a charm.

Pros: Easy install, works perfectly

Cons: Flashing module is a little tricky at first, but easy once you work at it a minute.

2020 Tundra. Associated wiring harness was a nightmare. Package arrived missing one required cable. Technical support repeatedly stated this cable was not required. I can understand their confusion because the instructions had conflicting guidance on whether this cable was required. After 50 hours of installation and troubleshooting I finally gave up and called the manufacturer directly. They confirmed my theory that this cable was required. I was able to re-engineer another cable that wasn't necessary to make the connections and finally have a working remote starter. Should be about a 2 hour job with this kit based on the manual wiring required for a 2020 Tundra (also an area that could use a lot of improvement since a good wiring harness would eliminate the need for manual wiring), the additional 48 hours of labor was directly attributable to bad instructions and incorrect technical support. Not the typical Crutchfield experience that I'm usually willing to pay a premium for. No, I'm not an install idiot (Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering).

Cons: Manual wiring, poor instructions, incorrect technical support

I just installed this today in a 2015 Highlander, using the T harness. I looked it over for a while before realizing it was much simpler than I had initially thought. I only had to tap onto one wire and split into two others. Worse part is the mess of wires I stuffed under the dash, the harness is longer than needed and I should have trimmed some wire. When you go to flash the device from a PC, after creating an account, the manufacturer gives access to images and wiring descriptions that are not in the PDF install guide. Those were a huge help. Images of each connector with needed conductors labeled. I wish I had found them sooner; it would have cut a day or two off my reading up and procrastinating. One bit that confused me was during the Module Programming (after everything is installed in the vehicle). The wait time between step 3 and 4 (LED changing to green) was much longer than I expected. Everything else went smooth. I didn't buy the T-harness here from Crutchfield. When they saw my order of just the module they made sure to follow up before they shipped. Great customer service.

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I installed the iDatastart CMHCXA0 in my 2018 Mazda CX-5 and it works well, but the instructions are lacking. The company that builds this device supports only professional installers, which may explain the abbreviated instructions. That said, if you have installed a radio, you can install this with the harness. Flashing is a little tricky. I called Crutchfield tech support twice after reading over the directions to make sure I understood all the instructions before starting. The instructions for programming don't tell you to flash the unit before step one. The idatalink webpage will guide you through the initial flash and then hold at the extended programming step until you initially install and remove the device per the instructions. The flash will only work using Internet Explorer and require a plug in from the idatalink webpage. However, after understanding all the steps that are required, it went smoothly. The hood switch is a little challenging. For those with a 2018 Mazda CX-5, the grommet above and to the left of the brake pedal has two pre-molded holes mostly punched through to route the hood switch wire. You will have to remove the battery to get to it from the outside. The switch positioning is tricky. I found an existing hole in the driver's side fender frame under the hood. It worked well at first, however, the contour of the hood was not flat and it pushed the plastic pin to the side and failed to push down the plunger. I needed to re-aligned the switch.

Pros: Remote start works well

Cons: Poor instructions Unless you have installed one before, will need tech support Hood Switch installation is tricky

Purchased this module because it was supposed to be easy to install and Crutchfield support is usually amazing. Really disappointed this time. I tried to install this multiple times, unaware that the there's a max number of flashes because it doesn't mention that anywhere on the install guide or iDatastart instructions/website. It's not until you're in my situation. I was only able to resolve the issue that caused me to keep reflashing after speaking with iDatastart. First it killed my car battery, so I had to find a ride to work and then a ride to get a new battery the next day. And now I'm basically stuck halfway in this install with an expensive module that I can't use because both Crutchfield and iDatastart said there was nothing they could do besides refer me to each other... it's been a nightmare.

Pros: Customer Support is always nice and personable

Cons: Product installation is definitely designed for professionals. There's so many installation "tips" that would've saved me from the nightmare experience I've had, that simply are never mentioned or included in any instructions.

Because there are zero directions and what you can find on iData's site is obtuse, I didn't know that I had to install a USB driver so weblink could "see" my device. Buying the T harness was a must and the physical install was pretty easy. I just had to work way too hard to get this thing set up. Plus, the default setting of lock-lock-lock on the oem fob did not work. I had to change it to lock-unlock-lock to get it to work.

Pros: Easy physical install w/ T harness

Cons: Zero directions, iData will not talk to you unless you lie and say you are a dealer /installer.

2015 Rubicon Idatastart

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

The Idatastart module works well but the instructions need some improvement. Bought this for my wife's 2015 Jeep Rubicon. I also bought the wiring harness for it "ADS-THR-CH5". The wiring harness was not clearly defined on exactly what needed to be connected. Took a while to figure out M1 was not needed. The website was glitchy and took several try's to get it to recognize the module. As you go through the programming of the module it does not tell you what some of the options are making it confusing on whether or not you need them. It tells you in the instructions if you program the module online that no further programming is needed. That is not entirely true. After you have the module installed make sure you do the steps to get the RPM read set for your module. All in all a little difficult to install, but it does work well once you figure it out.

Pros: Works well to start your vehicle using OEM remote. Harness integrates into OEM plugs without modification.

Cons: Instructions need improvement. Web link needs some improvement and clarification on options. Active X does not always work and you have to use Internet Explorer.

I installed this in a '16 Mazda 3 and I went with the recommended t-harness. Install was easy and quick. The issue is flashing the device. OMG. That took me a few hours. Here's what worked for me though. I used a laptop with WIN10, turned off auto-driver installation, installed internet explorer11, installed .net4 which contains the required 2.0. In turn on/off features I turned off 6.0 and turned on 4.0. Then log into your idatalink.com account and select the flash button in the top right screen and run the app. Ah and dont forget to cut the black loop on the device if you have an automatic transmission. Overall this was great and wasn't too difficult for a first timer. Ah and just to add, you will need a older style usb to usb "a" connection cable, like the ones old cellphones used to use. And that is it.

Pros: Ease of operation and install.

Cons: No directions for flashing device.

Super easy to install. Definitely buy the t-harness. Saved so much time. I did have to hardwire 3 wires for my particular install. And instead of using the provided hood pin switch I wired in an on/off switch on the dash. That way I can turn it on and off when it is being serviced. It took me roughly 30 minutes from start to finish. Crutchfield advisor sent me the install pdf. But also when you register on www.idatalink.com to flash the unit they also give install instructions. All in all I am very pleased with the ease of the install. I have installed other brands before that were cheaper however they were alot more complicated and required extra components to bypass the security and relays and diodes to have certain functions work. This idata unit has everything on board and requires no extra components for my install. The USB cable did not come with the unit and apparently is not included anymore. So if you purchase this let the Crutchfield agent know and they will provide one if you don't have one. Again I can not express enough that you should definitely buy the recommended t-harness. I used my factory keyfob. I dont like that if you want a farther range you have to purchase a separate remote. But the factory fob works fine from inside the house.

Pros: Ease of install. On board bypass for security and key.

Cons: Have to purchase separate remote for longer range.

I'm truly impressed by the ease of install. I wish I had known years ago, and I would've had remote starters in all my cars! The T-harness makes things soooo easy. Only had to splice a few wires. Got full install done in two hours, and I think on subsequent ones I could get them done in about one. Worst part was taking steering wheel shroud off, but not terrible. Also, the other reviews about instructions being bad are correct. They do leave out key details and are clearly designed for professionals. But, that's they we have Crutchfield, right? ;)

Cons: Terrible instructions.

Instructions come from iDatastart and are not as clear cut as Crutchfields typical instructions. It took a little bit to decipher it, but once figured out, installation was a breeze. When you go to the iDatastart website to flash the module, there is an option to install a desktop app to perform the flash. Do not install this, just use the web browser. The desktop app did not work at all, it couldn't find my module. The website also has the links to the installation PDFs. Loving my remote start

Pros: Easy install

Cons: The instructions can be intimidating.

Very happy with the functionality, but the install was very frustrating. The instructions and programming were very difficult to find and understand. I had to call Crutchfield support, who directed me to a different website than listed in the instructions that came with the iDatastart. Even then, I struggled because I had to turn on various plugins in IE, plus a Windows features. It's very likely most others will not know how to do either of these. iDataLink needs to make far better step-by-step instructions. I've been in IT for nearly 20 years and still struggled to understand. Installing in my 2002 Civic added complication due to the location of the fuse box and the tight space around it. Programming it was ok once all that was set, but wasn't as well described as I'd like. This was my first install of a system like this, so that caused some of the frustration. Now that it's installed, it works very well for the two weeks I've had it.

Pros: Many features, works as advertised.

Cons: Instructions were very difficult to find

By far the most disappointed I've ever been with a Crutchfield product. This was sold to me as plug and play but it requires taking most of your dash apart and finding the wires to plug into with nearly no instruction as to where they are or how to get to them. It also requires cutting and splicing wires as well as flashing the device which was not even mentioned in anything that came with the product. I did know that needed to be done from reading reviews but you would think they would give you step by step instructions on all of this. Plus it did not include the USB cable even though it said it would. I've installed multiple stereos from Crutchfield with no issues due to the nice step by step instructions on the dash work and the wiring, I'm pretty handy and I have a pretty solid computer/electronics background but I don't even know where to start with this thing...and of course I can't start with the flashing because I don't even have a cable. I believe I'm going to have to send it back or find a professional to install it.

Pros:

Cons: Almost no instruction on installing and not nearly as easy as I was led to believe

Melvin from St Charles, IL on 12/6/2020

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

The idatalink module requires the following in order for the customer to update it via Weblink: Windows 7 or later .NET Framework 2.0 Administrative rights on your PC Internet Explorer 9.0 or greater (excluding 64 bits) -- THAT MEANS YOU NEED 32-bit IE. Available USB port Weblink UpdaterT Cable [ADS-USB] *** SOLD SEPARATELY I called iDatalink and they told me that I plugged in the module to my computer before installing the Weblink driver; and I needed to have a their Weblink USB cable. If I wasn't using the Weblink USB cable, I needed to download another driver. Therefore, I was instructed to uninstall the Weblink Activate X; use an FDTI driver cleaner; and restart my PC. I did this several times, and I still couldn't get Internet Explorer Weblink Updater to "Detect my Module." I call called Crutchfield tech support and they told me to follow iDatalink's uninstall/reinstall instructions. Crutchfield tech support also said they would get someone in the Remote Install to call me back, but they didn't. A Crutchfield rep did email me a link to a "webpage" with some additional suggestions, but that didn't work either. I've read forums and all kinds of help, but no success. This product was engineered for 32-bit Window's 7 software. It doesn't work with 64-bit machines. This was complete waste of time.

Pros: None.

Cons: You need an archaic Windows 7 32-bit machine to flash the software on the module. No help from iDatalink or Crutchfield for troubleshooting the issue.

This had my wife's '16 CR-V remote starting in 30 mins and in another 30 the car was all back together like nothing happened. You want to receive the device, cut the loop or not depending on your transmission, then flash/program the device after you've set up your weblink ID and downloaded the software and/or enabled the proper .NET framework on your machine. It took me very little time to program the device and I did receive a usb cable with my module, it was under the plastic insert in the packaging. I did not get long-range remotes or the cell-phone capable module etc... Did a straight t-harness install with parking lights to know it's started and remote start initiated with the lock/unlock/lock factory key/fob. Get the harness they recommend and just try to pay attention to all the little details in the guides provided by idatalink. Someone had a remote starter in the vehicle before as I saw where all the ignition wires had been spliced then taped when they removed the remote starter and there was even a wire tap still on the parking light wire lol. For 200 bucks and about 2 hrs worth of time, programming and install, you too can have remote start.

With the help of the Crutchfield team, I was able to install this remote start in my 2017 Nissan NV2500 cargo van. It works as it should with great range. iDatastart is geared towards trained installers, so you won't find them very consumer friendly. Here's what I learned: Crutchfield will supply you with the necessary wiring diagrams and a link to the iDatastart site. Once there, you will set up an account and be able to program your module and remotes. Note: I found further detailed instructions (guides) on the site. I thought they'd be the same, but they are much more clear (like where to plug in the RF module). As this was my first remote start install, I didn't realize I should go through EVERY detail of the options BEFORE flashing. My van will start even with the doors open (my truck checks first, so I didn't think of it). Each change requires a new flash of the module. Flashing is burning the chip, so you don't want to do it over and over.

Pros: Easy to use, great range. Always awesome support from Crutchfield

Cons: Geared towards pro installers, so info is scarce

There was no blue wire in the specified location so I thought the installation was ready to go, but it was not. There is a blue wire. You hear it time and time again but Crutchfield tech support is awesome. Called them 3 times on this remote install on different problems and all were resolved. The web software for the module was the hardest part to deal with. Did not want to see the module after I installed the drivers. After that everything was laid out plain and simple. After I ordered the module I received an email right after with directions and the assurance of a Crutchfield tech looking over what I had purchased to make sure everything is correct. With the T-Harness, the installation of this is doable for anyone that knows how to properly tap into automotive wire. The directions are what i'd expect, but they aren't perfectly clear. This is why you buy from Crutchfield as they close any gaps on the manufacturer instructions for you and are super helpful. They had photos for every single one of my connections. My install was pretty easy on a 2011 Nissan Rogue with the Intelli-key. There is always going to be one connection that gives you a headache and for me it was the intelli-key wire that was up in the dash with no easy way to access (and this was a required connection). I prefer soldering but there was no way that was happening. In short, plan your install, scope out where your connections are and you'll be fine. This happened to be my last connection so it was a bummer when everything was going so well up until then. Flash first! Anyone who doesn't do this is at their own fault as Crutchfield warns you in advance! If you have an automatic transmission, make sure you clip the auto-transmission loop on the side of the unit before flashing. I was given this advice which i used and had no issues flashing or getting the car to program and take over. Once the unit is in, flashing takes 10 sections and takeover takes 5. Super simple. I wired up the parking light because i want to know the car is running without two way confirmation. To each their own.

Pros: Ease of install, Crutchfield support, T-harness, ease of programming.

Cons: They could easily make everything plug and play except the parking lights but its probably not cost effective to make car specific harnesses. That being said, i only had 3 splice in connections so i can't complain.

I was looking at a ton of different remote start options for my 4Runner but ultimately decided I wanted one that would confirm wether or not the car had started (2-way remote). Going this route there were only two options and IDatastart was the largest company of the two with the most/best hardware options. Yes there's other companies out there boasting 2-way remote options but if you read the fine print or look closely most all of them are using iDatastart components to achieve this functionality. This also works with your factory remote so you don't have to buy the two-way remotes if you don't want to...all you need is this and the "T" harness and you're good to go.

Pros: EASY install, only had to splice one wire. Crutchfield support (Scott) was absolutely amazing in diagnosing one slight issue I ran into (installer error) and had me up and running in no time. Total install time was about an hour and a half - make sure you buy the "T" harness to save yourself hours of work.

Device works great (2009 Honda Fit)! Easy install on vehicle using the suggested T-Harness. None of our nearby installers will do factory integrated systems anymore (making it where you have one remote to start vehicle & one to control locks/ect).

Pros: One of the few brand options left for people who wish to avoid the ridiculous cost of an installer.

Cons: One of the connectors wouldn't secure properly (Zip-Tied it down). Have basic computer knowledge! Software to install is not quite as simple as running a single setup file. I had to force drivers after program install on a Win10 PC. Requires browser extensions and only compatible with Internet Explorer.

2018 CX5 install

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I installed this on a 2018 Mazda CX5 using the T-harness (really not an option). I would agree with the other reviewers that the manufacturers instructions are the problem. The actual install was very straightforward, especially if you keep in simple and don't splice in the parking lights. The biggest issue was that the instructions don't tell you to flash the unit prior to installation. You also need to ensure there are no wiring connectors plugged into the unit or it will fail to flash or program. I was unable to get the standalone software to work and had to flash from their website (yes, using IE 11). A note to a previous reviewer, I also didn't like the horn beeps when activating the remote start. To address this I reprogrammed the unit via the website to turn on the car using a Lock-Unlock-Lock sequence rather than the default Lock-Lock-Lock. I would recommend this unit to anyone who has installed a stereo in the past. Use the T-harness and keep the options simple and it is pretty straightforward. Lastly, I noticed another CX5 reviewer had an issue with the Lady from Crutchfield support. I also called in for support and the Lady who helped me was very informative and helpful. She was able to identify the unit needed to be flashed prior to programming which was not called out in the instructions from the manufacturer.

Pros: T-Harness and online flash/programming make it much easier and configurable

Cons: Manufacturers instructions are not clear and missed some prerequisite steps.

Terrible Installation Instructions

Crutchfield customer from Manchester, TN on 12/31/2019

2019 Mazda CX-5

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I've installed a lot of automotive gear from Crutchfield over the years, and know a thing or two about reading schematics and installation procedures (I'm an engineer). This product, without a doubt, had the poorest installation instructions I've ever seen. The schematic seemed to indicate replacing a couple of wires on two of the vehicle connectors with the t-harness wires (t-harness purchased with the module). This didn't make sense so we called Crutchfield tech support to see if this was correct. The lady who answered must have been looking forward to the end of the shift. She didn't ask what our order number was and barely asked what the product model number was. And then quickly just agreed that yep, that's what you need to do. So we wired it that way. Next issue was the instructions indicate powering the module up first before doing any flashing of it with the computer. Wrong - it never got to the green LED. So we tried flashing it anyway, which brought us to next problem - it will only work with some antiquated MS Internet Explorer browser (along with some Java or Flash update). It finally flashed, and then we started getting somewhere. Quickly figured out that the horn and parking lights no longer functioned (the two wires that we had been led astray about by the Tech Support lady). Re-did those two wires and it finally worked. Should not have been this stressful - at one point I was afraid I had really screwed up my daughter's new SUV (2019 Mazda CX-5).

Pros: Works well with OEM key fob, once you figure out how to install it. Much cheaper than taking back to dealer to install OEM remote start unit.

Cons: Installation instructions are terrible, not up to the standards I've come to expect from Crutchfield. Flash web interface needs to be updated to 21st century - who still uses MS Internet Explorer?

I was so completely impressed with the iDatastart products...everything worked seamlessly together! Crutchfield's technical support was, as usual, second to none!! Made me wonder why I ever paid somebody in the past to install my remote starter systems in the past.

Pros: Easy setup and flashing of the module to pair it with my car from the iDatastart website. Plug and play was incredibly simple using the proper T-harness.

Cons: The proper port for the windshield antenna to plug into was a bit confusing, but Crutchfield tech support cane to the rescue.

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I bought this module for my 2006 Acura TSX. It's fairly easy to install and works as advertised. After having it for some time I've noticed some quirks. I think the quirks are related to the options selected or not selected when programming, I'm also using my factory key fob not a aftermarket version so I don't know if that plays a part in the quirks that I'm having. I think there should be information about programming included with the module when you get it. I would've giving this 5 stars if It came with more information about all the options associated with programming.

Pros: Easy install Easy to use

Cons: Not enough information on programming module.

I have installed three remote starters on three different cars, this one by far seemed to be the easiest. It just plugs into your existing wiring harness. However my experience was a disaster. After connecting everything, I went to program it to my remote. It never went into programming mode. Then when I tried to start my car with the key it wouldn't start. I noticed the security light on the dash was flashing. I decided to remove the starter and harness. The car still wouldn't start. I tried every method I could find on the internet to reset the cars immobilizer, nothing worked. I was forced to have the car towed to a dealer's service shop. They found the transponder reader was damaged and had to be replaced along with the keys. It cost me over $760. I cannot recommend this product to anyone. Crutchfield issued me a full refund. The fault does not lie with them. Though they may may want to reconsider carrying this product.

Pros:

Cons: Almost no installation instructions. By the time you realize something is wrong it's too late.

T harness is easy to install minimal wiring involved, Had an issue with programming. The idatastart website scanned my computer and told me it was compatible, however it could not communicate with the module when plugged in. I called tech support and they told me it was probably a bad module(my computer was reading that there was a drive plugged in) the idata website could not connect to it, after much frustration i opted to try a second cable that did not work, so i tried an older laptop and it connected to the module immediately... i googled this problem and found a few forums about this being a problem...a little disapointed that crutchfield tech support knows nothing about it. All in all a good product, just a little cumbersome to program

Pros: T harness makes for easy wiring

Cons: Programming clunky and problematic

Install fairly straight forward. I am not a professional installer. Watched a couple of Youtube videos. They were installing different modules on my model Tacoma, but the concept was exactly the same. My iDatastart package did not come with instructions, this was probably the most difficult and frustrating part of the install process. I am in Germany and making a long distance phone call to Crutchfield to help me install is not an option. The card that comes in the package has a website, but it does not take you to the website you need. I went back to the Crutchfield website and found this link http://www.idatalink.com/weblink/. Thing is I should have not had to do this as the info should come with the product. Having said all that, from there everything was a breeze. Installing the proper software on the module is key to the iDatastart working properly, follow their websites instructions on install of software for your vehicle. I additionally downloaded my model specific install guide from their website. Don't let the schematics scare you. For my install, I purchased the wiring harness designed for my model Tacoma. It was all plug and play. I did not have to run any additional wires or splice into anything. Install time was 1.5 hr and most of that was me being overly cautious.

Pros: Install easy. Works as advertised once installed.

Cons: No instructions inside packaging. Owner card that comes with module takes you to the wrong site for installation. Firmware update took a bit to find as there is no clear instructions as to which website you are supposed to go to.

System work so far. "OK" Quality and minimal support means install may not be or typical DIY. I did receive a faulty unit with a bad POC relay. Crutchfield replaced it. I will use this unit for a year (winter) and then upgrade to something more reliable. T-harness was used but I had to connect 5 hard wire connections. Recommend using a OBDII splitter, instead of using the T-harness. Remote & buttons are tiny, not user friendly.

Pros: Excellent backing by Crutchfield, so you will get all the support needed, even if it takes some time & effort. Good programming features. Was able to change the spastic double pulse unlock/lock to single lock. Can also make horn chirp mild or loud by adjusting pulse time.

Cons: Quality is not super. Remotes are tiny & cheap feel.

had a tiny issue with my computer finding the starter by usb cable..but I called Idata customer support and he litterally took control of my computer and resolved the problem and even did the very minor flashing procedure..after that it litterally was a plug and play install that took about 10 minutes including running the antenna wire by using the t harness and I now have starter and door lock and unlock funtions. I also purchased the 1 way 5 button 2 remotes kit..they have some pretty amazing range..highly recommended!

Pros: very simple install. amazing range with acessory remote kit

This was exactly what I was looking for. The price was very reasonable as well. It was about $100 less then the dealer installed version and works better. I was looking for a simple remote start for my 2019 Tundra and this fit the bill exactly. It is equal, I say better, then the factory option. It works with your factory key fob as does the factory starter. I had a factory starter installed on my wife's 4-Runner and have not been happy with that since installed. This model works much better and cost less. So far it has worked flawlessly.

Pros: Works exactly like factory remote. (if that's what you are looking for) Works better then factory remote. Quality product with good warranty.

Cons: Limited activation range. (Limited to factory key fob range)

I was able to finally get remote start up and running in my 2003 Honda Accord EX-L V6 Coupe. I was debating for a while to either do it myself or pay an installer but when I came across the vehicle specific T-harness, I decided to give it a try. I used the OEM key fob as the main remote, maybe later I will upgrade to an aftermarket fob. Flashing the module is a bit annoying but not hard. There were about six wires to splice in total. Crutchfield's Tech support was able to narrow down the locations for the OEM hood sensor and horn wire which saved me a bunch of time. They also gave me the wiring diagram for my vehicle. The hardest part was putting the steering wheel panel back together. Honestly, this was an easy install.

Pros: Easy to install It works

Cons: No aftermarket fob included

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I really like this product. Note that this product does not include remotes nor an antenna, those are a separate kit(uses a factory remote). For my Chevy Express, using the T harness(separate purchase), it was a plug and play install. What you won't find in the package are instructions. You will need a PC with a USB to wide microUSB adapter-several generations of cell phone ago(this NEEDS TO BE PROVIDED WITH THE KIT). Once you have the module connected to your PC and on the website, then programming is a snap. Not really sure this product is for your average individual, but I did get it installed and working with some frustration. Ohh, forgot to mention Crutchfield's gurus are very specific for this item, so good luck talking to one of them right away-took two days for them to call me back-I had it installed and working by then! And if I didn't mention, it works.

Pros: Plug and play

Cons: USB connection needs to come with kit. This particular USB cable is probably not in most homes anymore. Instructions are SPARSE at best. Call back from support took two days-I had it figured out by then.

...finally! remote start for my honda civic

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

The winters in the northeast are really brutal lately. Decided to start looking for a remote start for my Honda Civic. After reading a review in the last Crutchfield magazine I decided to call. Calvin helped me out with the necessary products. I left them in a shopping cart for a couple of weeks. Finally took the plunge and ordered the CMHCXA0, and the T-harness for my car to make life easier... They came within 2 days. The only problem.... I have an iMac. The CMHCXA0 needs to be hooked up to a PC in order to be programmed for my specific vehicle. I was about to purchase a copy of Windows 10 and install it via bootcamp on my computer but our friends happen to have a PC sitting around. Figured give it a shot, I hooked up the unit to the PC and downloaded the software. When trying to flash the unit I kept getting a USB error. After speaking with idatastart the other day it turns out there is an additional piece of software you need to download from their site in order for the PC to pick up the unit. Flashing was easy at this point, figuring out what options to turn on took most of my saturday afternoon. Plug the box in, start from scratch, again and again. After a few hours... EUREKA! the car started! Just had to figure out how to keep the wiring behind the steering wheel column. I decided not to install the hood pin at this time. It took a week and a half with my busy schedule to get to this point. Buyers beware, do your homework!

Pros: price, features

Cons: Wish the instructions had photos of the specific plugs you need to disconnect and attach to a T-Harness

2007 Ford Fusion

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Where to begin? This starter once installed is great. It performs just as advertised. I rarely review purchases, but this one needs it. In my 2007 Fusion this was NOT "plug n play". A Crutchfield advisor phoned after I placed my order and let me know this. I still had no idea what was coming. Even using wire taps, the seven or so taps I had to make were very difficult. Car builders don't include slack in the OEM wiring for good reason. This makes standing on your head under the dash, trying to install taps a very uncomfortable experience. If your vehicle requires multiple taps and you are not experienced with car electronics and wiring, this install is best left to a professional. I've been doing my own installs for over 25 years and it was still difficult. The instructions are almost laughable. If you aren't familiar with wiring diagrams you will be totally lost. The IDatalink website for flashing the module is also not user friendly. When programming my module I didn't get the initial "green led". I was ready to give up. Thanks to another reviewer with the same problem, I proceeded through the 16 or so steps and got lucky and my programming was a success. All in all, I love the system. It could just be so much better with adequate instructions. To sum it up: Yes is is a Do-able DIY install. However, you need lots of patience and a fair amount of knowledge concerning car wiring and diagrams. Thx to the reviewer who listed step by step his install.

Pros: Works great as advertised.

Cons: Lack of instructions. Lack of instructions. Lack of instructions.

This is in NO WAY an easy install. There are no instructions available on Crutchfield. Neither are there any instructions available on the iDataStart/iDataLink website. When I called iDataStart/iDataLink to get instructions, they said that the product is for professional installers. So...yeah. Not sure why Crutchfield sells this if that is the case. Crutchfield needs to do one of three things with this product line: 1. Provide a set of specific instructions, like they do for their car audio products, for this line of products, 2. Indicate that this product is intended for professional installers, as is recommended by the manufacturer, and/or 3. Stop selling it/them.

Pros: Never got to use it - so, I don't know

Cons: Not easy to install No installation instructions available from Crutchfield, the manufacturer, or in the box. Manufacturer says it is for professional installers

After spending over an hour with manufacturers tech support, I come to find out that plug and play is not the same for domestic vehicles, American vs Canadian. They differ and domestic cars require all connectors to be cut off and spliced into the factory harness. Not exactly plug and play. Programming is also an issue because the necessary information is not supplied and can not be shared with end user, notes had to be hand written to enable features. I have yet to install because of the cold here. It's not beyond my capabilities, I just wanted to not have to hack into a factory harness.

I have a stripper version XL work pickup. While I like it, I did want autostart. I bought the control module and T harnesses from Crutchfield and of course the service was perfect! This is a SUPER STOOPID install, and I'm still intimidated by the wires of the new cars. You create an account to get the firmware to flash your module, then install it. No wire clipping on the F150 with the T harnesses. I did not like the horn chirp on the 2nd and 3rd lock press and called customer support about that. It didn't fix it..then it dawned on me, the horn chirped when you press the lock button more than once from the factory...easy fix!! When you log in and flash the module there are a couple pages (3?) of choices and one of them is to change the default "lock lock lock" press to start to "lock unlock lock". No horn chirp now.easy! 15 minute install. Seriousy. Plug into the OBD connector and plug into the light connector, program the key with the easy instructions.BAM!!

Pros: easy, small, affordable, great customer service from CF, (of course!!)

This remote start is easy to program and reasonably easy to install with the separate T adapter harness. My main suggestion is to go to get registered and use the idatastart support site for installation help. If needed you can also call the idatastart help line and get answers. If you aren't handy with a soldering iron for the few wire connections not completed with the T adapter harness, I recommend using Posi-Taps for simple and clean wire connections.

Pros: Works well and easy to program with mini USB cable after registering on the support site. Minimal wires to connect when using the separate T adapter harness.

Cons: No printed directions included in the package, so you either need a computer or smart phone handy to reference the information when installing and programming.

The documentation for this remote start module is practically useless. But once you figure it out, the module works fine.

Great product but could use some better directions. I was told that I would need to wire in a separate relay for the lights and horn to work but that wasn't the case.

Works well, wish there was a way to use a different set of button pushes to start. When I hit lock three times, the second and third push make the horn honk and I know my neighbors don't want to hear me starting my car at 5:00 in the morning. Also their meaning of hitting the lock three times rapidly is way different than mine. I first thought it wasn't working, but when I slowed down the pushes it started up. I would define it as pushing the lock button three times in a row slowly, not rapidly. Instructions were weak and if you don't have a lot of experience installing car stereos and accessories, it could be daunting, good thing Crutchfield is there to assist. Also I would not recommend buying this without the T-harness. The T-harness takes care of about fifty plus wires that you would have to splice down to just four. If it wasn't for the lack of instructions on how to take apart things in my car, the install could be done in thirty minutes to an hour. Another shortfall is that they require you to use internet explorer to flash and program the firmware. I haven't used IE in years!

Pros: Works well, easy to hook up if you have the T-harness

Cons: Lack of instructions

Great product so far, instructions were minimal but effective. Using the vehicle specific harness saved a bunch of time on the install. Crutchfield was great as always by including a relay that was required for proper install at no extra charge! The price of the relay would have been minimal, but the point is that they found out it needed to be on the order after I placed it and just took care of it for me!

This is a very comprehensive module when paired with the rf RF2352AC kit and the correct t-harness which makes it a really nice system. The directions are accurate but vague and at first/second glance the pdf guide is missing a couple of pictures of the factory harness that had to be spliced into; but, the pictures for the t-harness was spot on and the harness fit perfect. Crutchfield dropped the ball by not listing out what few steps are needed to make this a seemless install. 1. When you get your package in the mail open Internet explorer and set up an account at www.idatalink.com 2. log in to that account 3. Download and install weblink. 3. Click on the orange icon "flash your module" 4. Click allow pop up at the bottom of the page 5. When prompted plug in a male a usb to male mini b cable to your computer and module 6. Choose vehicle 7. If you have the rf kit disable the factory remote 8. Add rf remote serial numbers 9. Don't mess with any options or call idatastart if you need too, they are helpful and patient 10. Select firmware and flash the module 11. Remember the pdf with missing terminal splices?? Look off to the left of the screen and it has links to pdf's and pictures of the harness in the car 12. Route, splice, hook up. 13. Program module by steps in packet for vehicle specific instructions 14. Program module for engine tachometer 15. If you messed up reflash module and try again or call for help 16. Use your remote start

Pros: Clean install. When you find the directions, they are good. Relatively simple. So far I would buy again and would recommend, I'll touch base after a year.

Cons: Lacking institutional knowledge of some of the start up steps for install. A list of steps from Crutchfield would have eliminated this headache; but, this is minor as everything was there and a little perseverance solved that problem.

Installed this in my 2014.5 Camry SE and works perfectly. The wiring diagram and instructions from idatalink/idatastart was perfect. The amount of features on the idatastart is amazing and it's all configured through a web-based interface. The product did not include the micro usb cable, contrary to the description page (if you use the micro usb cable, instead of the weblink cable, you'll need specific usb drivers). Also, the wiring harness is a must, otherwise you will need to tap into many wires. Even with the wiring harness you'll need to tap two or three wires. I was disappointed Crutchfield didn't have any instructions to remove the panels in the lower dash area (I broke one tab). I assumed they would have access to factory manuals or Haynes or Alldata, instead the support specialist recommended that I search for it on youtube (this is horrible answer). But they did give me direct access to a remote start installation specialist, just in case. Again, the product and idatalink wiring diagrams are fantastic, but you'll need to research some details of the installation. I was hoping Crutchfield would have done the research for the premium price. Also, Crutchfield support called me before shipping the product to ensure I understood the installation. Crutchfield's support is always great, that's why I decided to pay the premium price. Even though I didn't need any support from Crutchfield, I knew they would be there to support me if needed.

Pros: Lots of features in remote start Easy installation Well made product Good firmware Great wiring harness addon Factory remote integration
