The easiest process to flashing and preparing prior to install so you won't lose control of your steering wheel features! What can't this thing not do? I set mine up for my Chrysler 200 2016 and it works fantastic!

Pros: Easy steps to follow after creating your online profile.

Cons: Error notices with connecting to server. I suspect this happened to me for upgrading to macOS Big Sur and the latest support file needed to be for Catalina or older. Mac users be advised. I had to resort to using a windows computer to flash this unit. The developers behind Maestro, please act sooner to release firmware updates to stay consistent with the times.

The iDatalink Maestro RR Interface Module is more than just impressive; it an essential part of my upgrade to my 2010 Toyota Tacoma. Seeing my engine diagnostics on the user interface of my new head unit was more than I expected. With the iDatalink, I can see instruments graphically displayed, as well as tire pressure so I can get a picture of the "health" of my truck whenever I want it. Great product.

Pros: Easy install, and integration with the new head unit.

Cons: Haven't found any

Pay attention to the wiring PDF that Weblink will link for you, It willl be over a hundred pages long, and you need to find your vehicle in the PDF to get the right wiring diagam.

Pros: Complete integration, Great setup flexibility through web configuration

Way too buggy!!

Jeffrey from FAIRBANKS, AK on 11/17/2020

2015 Ford F-150 XLT

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

At least in my 2015 F-150 this thing is buggy!! The installation was not straightforward, thanks to some incorrect wiring diagram information. Have had several instances where issues have arisen and the only solution appears to be to re-flash the device and hope for the best. Sometimes it fixes them sometimes it doesn't. In the 10 months this has included FTR-1 lights remining on if the passenger door was closed last (which did kill the battery), the back-up camera view being incorrect, and the rear window defroster being on 100% of the time regardless of indicator light. Tech support has no idea what causes any of these issues. Just re-flash. If it fixes the problem great. If it doesn't you'll just have to learn to live with them. If you are counting on this being a seamless installation without having to deal with a bunch of problems you are probably going to be really disappointed. I've had to take the dash apart three times in the last ~10 months to re-flash the device. It has worked two of the three times. For right now at least my problems are down to the rear defroster issue. This could be a Maestro RR problem or it could be a FTR-1 problem. But there does not appear to be a way to fix it.

Pros: You will become a semi-professional stereo installer with far more hardware and firmware experience than you ever dreamed you'd have.

Cons: You will become a semi-professional stereo installer with far more hardware and firmware experience than you ever dreamed you'd have.

Crutchfield customer from Roosevelt, UT on 11/16/2020

2011 Ford F-250

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

The data link is a must have. For everyone that is using this in a Ford f-series truck with sync..... when you flash your data link make sure you uncheck the sync boxes!!!! You can keep the same steering wheel buttons, but you have to uncheck the sync options because the new data link and the old sync clash.

Pros: Makes all of the steering wheel buttons work perfectly. Makes the parking brake, reverse, Door notifications, and many other stock stereo options still work perfectly!

Cons: Does not work with Sync in Ford Series trucks

The complexity of the install doesn't detract from the fact that iDatalink provides everything you need to complete it. It was my first time so I pored over the instructions before starting. The additional, custom Crutchfield instructions received by e-mail with the order confirmation were a godsend. The online process to flash the unit works fine; the user interface is good though some features weren't immediately intuitive. I then contacted Crutchfield support who were helpful, pointing out a few places where incorrectly interpreted the instructions and answered a few questions. Then it was a matter of buckling down to soldering and other assembly.

I am technically inclined. The installation was fairly easy. You need to log into their website to FLASH the proper software into the unit for your particular car. Their website was not functioning properly when I did this, so it took a phone call and a couple of days, but everything went well in the end.

I had no issues with getting harnesses and interface to eventually connect to the Alpine ilx-w650. However, I had to refer to the great Crutchfield support team for some open ended issues as I installed the head unit. Even Crutchfield (and iDatalink) had the fit designation correct for my 2015 Jeep Wrangler Sahara JK with alpine sound , the notes regarding that ilx-w650 and harness/Mastro fit should have included: 1. Fader will not work if Jeep has Alpine factory sound, but sound is going to all speakers & SW. 2. Wiring instructions will come from iDatalink..not Crutchfield. Did not know that until I got the harness and flashed the Maestro unit as instructed by Crutchfield support. 3. A wire will need to be connected to the harness and spliced into the Emergency Parking brake cable to allow for access to ilx-w650 system setup (on screen) to work. This is a known solution, but not evident until install and after tech support. This should be included up front. Overall, the harnesses/interface/Maestrp are good. Just understand the ilx-650 is a no-frills system without a lot of integration brains. But its a very nice system and once hooked up with the harness correctly, all is good ...and worth the effort to save a lot of money..

I purchased this unit to complete the installation conversion on a 2014 Ford F150. I did not know at the time of purchase that the unit requires connection to a computer to download vehicle specific software before installation. The download was simple, took about 30 minutes to complete. Also unlike claimed, you will not retain ALL steering wheel key functions. The maestro allows for using volume and channel up/down keys but not microphone or phone keys. You must install the accessory mic provided with the radio for voice/bluetooth.

Installation was fairly straightforward, did not retain sync. The problem is that this module has a drain on my battery. Kills it in 24 hours. It's not the batteries or charging system. iDatalink support was terrible. Crutchfield was helpful but couldn't solve the issue. What a waste of time and money keeping steering wheel controls on my 2010 Ford Escape.

It works perfectly. I was able to get all my steering wheel controls and all my data back working, eventually. My recommendation is to flash the unit twice. I did the configuration and firmware flash the first time, everything was proper, buttoned my car up, and.....no steering wheel controls. Had to reflash. Once you install it, I recommend to power the unit up with the stereo and test your controls BEFORE final install, just to be safe.

Pros: I can use my steering controls still Pretty easy to install

Cons: Had to flash twice, had to take dash apart to do so Bulky behind the dashboard The desktop app is really buggy. If you click steering controls twice, it tosses you back to the login screen.

My favorite part of this is the set up, idatalink makes flashing the firmware and setting steering wheel controls so easy!

Pros:

Cons: If I could find anything wrong I would say, I'd have liked a longer usb cable included to leave installed for firmware updates/changes.

Issues with crosstrek install

2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

The unit definitely helped with installing my new gps stereo and preserving the steering wheel controls, but there is are 2 common problems: 1) with the reverse backup camera requiring a 12v wire that is not part of the standard 2014 subaru crosstrek maestro set-up. Tech support has been helpful but having this in the maestro unit design and instructions would be more helpful. 2) microphone connection not working. Ended up using mic that came with new stereo and wired direct. It is a better mic anyway. Photo shows old mic plug on right and new Maestro mic plug on left

Programming was pretty easy and once done all the features on my steering wheel work like they did with the factory stereo. The wiring part was a little more complicated and this is not for the faint of heart. There are a lot of connections to make and some of the instructions could of been better but this was not my first rodeo. Overall very pleased with my purchase.

A little confusing to install but the factory integration and OBD reading is awesome. Once I read the manual and did some YouTube recon, I was able to figure the install. Flashing the unit with the correct vehicle settings is fairly simple. So for the rating... I rate it 5 stars once installed but 2 stars for the installation/instructions.

I had issues determining if I could use this because it didn't show my car's steering wheel on their website. Crutchfield's tech support came through and confirmed that my car, 2014 Subaru Forester with EyeSight, is compatible with it. It made interfacing with my car's amps and steering wheel controls a breeze.

Pros: Made interfacing with my car's amps and steering wheel controls a breeze

Cons: iDatalink needs to update the steering wheel pics to include the one with Subaru Forester EyeSight.

Item works as expected from second try. The first item arrived defective and was smelling badly during test run. Was not comfortable to leave it under the dash. Great customer service. Replacement works with no issues. It is highly configurable, you can reprogram each button and add even more features. I highly recommend to install it in some easy to reach place and run it like that for some time (several hours) to make sure that it does not overheat and it is safe to install under the dash.

Pros: Features, configuration, easy to program and install

They should re-word the description to say that it "only works with approved radios on the iDatalink website". You can't just hook up any radio to this harness. You first must program it and you can't do that unless you have a compatible radio, cause you need to enter the serial number of the radio onto the module, in order to use all the data connectivity features. Only approved for 1 Sony radio and it wasn't the one I was installing.

Awesome features and integration

Crutchfield customer from Kitty Hawk, NC on 8/5/2020

2009 Ford Mustang

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I want to start by saying that I haven't installed a stereo in 25 years and the amount of wires needed to be hooked up with this and the FO1 harness for my vehicle can be overwhelming but not impossible. Take your time and follow directions and this can be done. Critchfield definitely does a great job of giving you everything you need, taking all the guess work out. I will say that Maestro states that you retain all factory features but that's not entirely true so to speak. One feature, a minor one, is the R.A.P option which allows your stereo to keep running when the ignition is off is not there. This is not a big deal but after being use to this it can be some what annoying. I will say there customer support is great and this is the response from them on this issue: Some of these early Ford vehicles have a retained accessory power (RAP) wire that is not part of the vehicle's databus. In these applications, you will lose RAP from the RR, as we do not see a data command saying "keep accessory powered" essentially and there isn't an analog/wired input to the RR to allow us to utilize the existing wire. Technically it can be wired to the radio (only!) if you cut the RR's accessory output BUT you will lose all maestro features (steering wheel controls, gauges, check engine light scan, etc.) when the key is turned off. I am also have a few issues with TPMS option but this seems to be more of an issue with my vehicle than the unit as my year does not show actual tire pressure #s

Pros: Seamless integration and added features like gauges

Cons: Does not retain R.A.P option.

Cons: I wish there was a way to program it via an app or menu instead of having to take the dash apart and plug it into a laptop. My dash is a pain in the ass to remove.

This is the first time using this product and dealing with the company. Their customer service sucks. After trying to setup an account and flash the module, I had no luck whatsoever. An easy 15 minute take turned into over an hour of phone time with tech support and no answers. Well they did say it was their fault and that they didn't know how long it'll be till it's fixed. What kind of garbage is that? It's been a few days now and the website and app are still not working. It makes me miss PAC and others that had much more efficient customer service and products. As for the device itself setup is easy. Even though there is a nest of wiring, it isn't anymore difficult than istalling a PAC in a Silverado with Onstar and Bose.

Complex Install -programming. Wires too short. Poor instructions

Jim from Minneapolis, MN on 7/21/2020

2008 Chevrolet Avalanche

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Very Complex Tangled Mess of wires with Little to no help from instructions. I was disappointed at the lack of a good instruction booklet. Also on my install a couple of connectors fit in 2 different locations. I am thankful nothing burned up. They should design this so only one connector will fit (the right one) I still have not used any steering controls for the radio but it does work and is programmable but you must remove the module and plug into your computer. That is ignorant design since it took so long to install this you have to remove the module once again and hook up to your computer to re-flash?! I will never again look at this module unless the radio burns up it was far too difficult to install it much less remove it again. It was not apparent to me the first time that you can "choose" some of the functions for the radio controls while programming this module. I had to reprogram mine twice. When I turn the key on my module has a red light which is supposed to mean something is wrong but it goes out soon after and it does work so again poor instructions. Anyway as far as the buzzers it does something useful. But with all the harnesses and brackets and Maestro it actually has surpassed the price of my radio. that is ridiculous isn't it? Time will tell if this thing is reliable or not. I hope I never have to install another one of these systems again.

Pros: Nice to read Engine Information such as battery RPM, Volts and manifold intake temp (I am not sure why I care about that though it will be outside air temp).? As far as the steering wheel controls I never use them. The radio is only inches away. I am not sure what the advantage of steering wheel controls really are. I do like having the turn signals and safety buzzers enabled and a volume was a huge plus. But it will only change volume when the car is running? I will never use ONSTAR

Cons: Lack of instruction on programming and connecting the module. If they provided MUCH longer wires the Maestro could be relocated. there is too much junk (wires and harnesses) in an already crowded location behind the dash. Bundles of wires must be jammed it to make fit in the small dash location.

Works as expected only problem I had was my stock back up camera. It never says you need another adapter to make it work luckly the techs at Crutchfield where able to help me figure out why it wasn't working. And the sent me the adapter free.

Pros: Works as expected easy to program

Cons: needed extra adapter to make stock back up camera work. Never said needed extra adapter. Took the tech at Crutchfield to help figure out that another adapter was required to help it work.

2011 GMC Sierra with a Kenwood 396 stereo and at first this module did not return to the OEM XM satellite station I had left it on when I turned the truck off. After I contacted Crutchfield, they in turn had me contact Maestro to work with them to see what the issue was. Maestro had to basically make a new firmware version because the Kenwood 396 wasn't playing nice with others. After they changed the firmware, everything works exactly like it should. I could not be more happy with this purchase.

Pros: Maestro is willing to work with customers to fix an issue with compatibility and did a great job.

Cons: Had to pull the box a few times to hook to computer to flash the firmware so make sure it's in an easily accessible area when installing.

Very user-friendly. Once you connect it to your computer and flash the drive makes it a very simple process. Set it up directly to whatever type of vehicle you have and even shows you the wiring diagram for the radio you also have installed. I would highly recommend this for anyone.

Pros: Easy to hook up an install.

Cons: Wiring diagram was a little hard to understand but once figure it out it was simple. If you don't know how to read schematics might be a little tough.

Excellent functionality, merely adequate instructions

Crutchfield customer from KNOXVILLE, TN on 7/6/2020

2017 Toyota Corolla

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Provided steering wheel control integration and backup camera integration in a 2017 Corolla with an Alpine iLX-W650. There was no need to make a separate hard wired connection to the parking brake or reverse indicator; everything was built right into the harness. Programming the module was straightforward with the desktop app on a windows PC. Once you program the module, you're given a link to instructions on how to wire the custom Maestro vehicle harness to the radio harness and how to connect the harness to the module. Unfortunately the wiring diagrams were a bit hard to follow, and certain components weren't labeled (or labeled well), so there was a little educated guesswork. Those instructions are also instructions for many, many different cars, and you have to pay attention and look at just the pages for your specific vehicle. We started out thinking it was one set of instructions and just mentioned a different car because that was the default example or something. Instruction quality is what makes it 4/5 instead of 5/5.

Pros: Maintains steering wheel controls including volume, mode, track, phone, siri, etc. as well as maintaining OEM backup camera operation.

Cons: Wiring instructions can be difficult to follow.

This system was a little intimidating as far as doing initial look through on it. It's an absolute dream to setup and get installed, get the correct vehicle wiring harness with it and take your time (it doesn't take much). I was able to setup my account, walk through the tool and have it flashed within about 15 minutes. It used connections to the back of my radio and needed to be connected to the factory wiring through the additional wiring harness but overall made the installation and use of my new radio easy as can be.

Pros: Easy to setup and get connected

Cons: Finding space for another device behind the dash

Wish I would've known about the Bluetooth version but this one works great. I was able to maintain the OE controls on the steering wheel and added some features with the ODB plug. This is where the Bluetooth version would've been beneficial.

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

This module retained almost every factory option in my Jeep Commander. Mine is a 2006 though, so there is no physical way for the VES system to integrate fully with the aftermarket head unit. The 2008 Commander has that option however. It is a different wiring harness, allowing for communication between the two systems. The Maestro was super easy to program though. And when paired with the Chrysler wiring harness, made the aftermarket head unit install so easy, and maintained the steering wheel controls.

Pros: Easy to program

Cons: Not ALL option can physically be retained...not the fault of the Maestro though...

If you want to use factory steering wheel controls and interface with the factory harnesses this thing is great. They really do need to step up their game in terms of documentation/instruction. Even going to their site there is no information about what all the sub harnesses do. I did not connect mine to the OBDII or the backup and e-brake signals, I just wanted my steering wheel buttons to work and they do now. Basically if you are able to keep your head straight and work with a bundle of wires it is not a hard install.

Pros: gets the factory stuff talking to the head unit

Cons: really minimal instructions/documentation

I was recommended to purchase this unit for my 2008 Tundra with JBL amp. I was installing a Kenwood DNX575S. Well that was a bad recommendation, after speaking with Crutchfield tech assist and Maestro tech assist I was informed the new Kenwood must be at fault. I called a local installer and they recommended PAC units and that the Maestro doesn't work for my model of truck. I installed the PAC units and the Kenwood was not at fault. I have purchased many items from Crutchfield but it looks like I will have to rethink this. Bad tech support as well as bad recommendation for my purchase. Thanks for nothing and wasting my money.

Take your time on this install and do your research according to what kind of vehicle you have and with what options it is factory equipped with. That will save you the confusion, as the only thing I wished is that the instructions were a bit more detailed and exact according to my vehicle and options. After I figured it all out my install went really good, and this module is excellent. Everything works as it should.

This kit is a lot of wiring. Some may or may not be used depending on application. I have an issue with mine, and have reflashed it but didn't get fixed. Called tech support and have gotten no help figuring it out. Everything is working except my Temperature display, which also shows my AC settings in my 2012 F-150. It worked when I tested it before shoving it all into the dash, once I completely installed it, the display never worked again. Have checked all the wiring 5 times and reflashed it twice, and still cannot figure out where the issue is.

Pros: Lots of options to retain factory features, steering wheel features work great, and Tire Pressure and Voltage Monitors, along with some other gauges can be displayed on your unit.

Cons: Lot of wiring, can be confusing to figure it all out, especially when things work on test fit, but don't on final install.

Easy to use and set up

Pros: Retain steering wheel button function, old radio display, compass, and time still functions, very happy with that.

Cons: Settings through radio don't always stay in memory, crank with power retained I can set it and it lasts about a day then reverts to not functioning, so when I sit and listen to radio with engine off and I crank the truck the radio reboots

2012 Dodge Challenger SRT Not only were the instructions clear and concise, it retained connectivity with the factory uConnect system, steering wheel controls (fully customizable) but also an aftermarket back-up camera and added a vehicle information display not even offered in my model year! Would give 10 stars if allowed!

Pros: Added features my car didn't even have available back in 2012

Cons: None

Remember the days when you could just simply use an adapter, plug into the factory speakers and throw the dash together? (I'm thinking of my 1995 Caprice Wagon). Well, this interface module (with the correct harness for your vehicle) pretty much makes it that simple. Software was easy and intuitive. Just select your year, make, model, and trim package along with the factory options you wish to retain and flash the module. If your vehicle has a FACTORY XM/SIRIUS Tuner, you may be able to retain it with this module which was GREAT that I didn't need to get an aftermarket tuner (this was not totally clear in the instructions or the website). I got a new head unit that is designed to be used with this module, which was nice as the integration was easy. I also get to see some vehicle data on the radio, which was a nice upgrade. I used a 3 foot USB cord so I could access the USB programming port on the module (without having to take my dash apart again), in case I wanted to change the settings or the steering wheel controls - which I've done twice already.

Dont second guess on this product. What can i say other than this product was perfect. Without it i had no chance of installing and aftermarket radio. Not only does this product expand your modern cars audio capabilities it adds even more features than i could think imaginable. This module gives you the ability to read and clear check engine light codes (CEL's) which comes greatly in handy when you car does produce a CEL. On top of that i mow have a boost gauge and many other gauge readings that weren't possible without spending hundreds on physical gauges. This product will enhance you driving experience beyond what you may believe. In short it's a definite must have.

Pros: Simple enough to wire together anyone with time on their hands can proudly accomplish. GAUGES!!!!

I love that the Maestro RR allows you to maintain the functionality of your factory steering wheel controls, but I had difficulty flashing the unit to work properly. I flashed the unit x4 on two different computers before it finally worked properly. That being said, after it was successfully installed I enjoyed being able to use the features built in to the Maestro RR.

Pros: Allows retention of factory steering wheel controls, OnStar and warning chimes.

Cons: Requires very specific browser updates to flash from website. (They do offer a program download to fix that issue.)

I had been out of the aftermarket head unit game for several years. I decided my truck needed an Apple CarPlay upgrade. The maestro was suggested with the install kit. I had no idea what it was, but after researching I liked the ability to view vehicle details, so I said "why not." This thing is really cool. I work in technology, but you don't need much technical experience to program the unit and get it going. Just follow the directions. It added some extremely beneficial features to my vehicle. Definitely a great purchase!

This was way easier to use than I was expecting. I bought it with the full intention of needing my I.T friends help. But I was able to use this product! You do need a computer and decent internet and very little understanding of how to use a computer. An i do mean a very small understanding of them to be able to update this interface to your car. That being said its way more intimidating than you first think.. you may end up not using half the wires. Definitely reccomend

Pros: retained all my features

Junk

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Absolute junk! After hours of various settings and flashes, I removed it completely! It had some many weird issues that I lost track how many. The most annoying was if you used the console knobs on the head unit, you lost the ability to use steering wheel controls until you cycled the engine. The other is if you tried to use Sync by using the steering wheel, you lose ALL head unit function until you recycle the engine. Sync and steering wheel controls are over rated anyway.

Pros: In theory use of sync and steering wheel controls.

Cons: In real life it is nowhere near adequate for an F250 Super Duty!

This is an amazing product, once you figure it out. First, to program it they give you 2 options, on the web or download their program. The web version would not work for me. During install in my 2013 F150 I quickly realized there were ZERO instructions with it. The "Master" sheet from Crutchfield is useless. Even the instructions on iDatalink website dont accurately show the hookups or even the connections for the K150 kit at all! My best advice is to be aware that you will NOT use all the adapters and not all plugs on this unit will be used. Why do they include a gen1 4 pin cable and gen2 4 pin cable when this is a gen3 device?(Use the gen2) The Readyharness service is worth the extra money.

Pros: Does what it is supposed to

Cons: No good instructions anywhere
