About the iDatalink Maestro ADS-MRR Interface Module

iDatalink's Maestro ADS-MRR module, along with the correct interface harness for your vehicle, allows you to install a new car stereo in select late-model Fiat, Ford, GM, Chrysler, Toyota/Scion, Honda, Fiat, Subaru, or Volkswagen vehicles while retaining your factory steering wheel audio controls and the use of your factory amplifier, if present.
iDatalink's Maestro RR module

iDatalink's Maestro RR module

iDatalink's Maestro ADS-MRR module, along with the correct interface harness for your vehicle, allows you to install a new car stereo in select late-model Fiat, Ford, GM, Chrysler, Toyota/Scion, Honda, Fiat, Subaru, or Volkswagen vehicles while retaining your factory steering wheel audio controls and the use of your factory amplifier, if present.

Here's how it works

First, you connect the Maestro to your computer using the included USB cable, visit www.idatalink.com/maestro, and follow the instructions. Once the unit has been "flashed," it's ready to go. Next, you'll either solder or crimp the vehicle-specific Maestro harness (sold separately) to your new receiver's wiring, just like you would with any Crutchfield wiring harness or wiring adapter.

Important Note: You will also need an additional Maestro vehicle-specific wiring harness that connects your new receiver to the ADS-MRR module and your vehicle's wiring. We will automatically add this harness to your Cart at a discounted price when you purchase a new car stereo and this ADS-MRR module.

Retain steering wheel audio controls, too

The ADS-MRR module also allows you to use your factory steering wheel audio controls with your new receiver. Using the intuitive web programming interface, each factory button can be assigned a specific radio function. Better yet, you can also assign a secondary "press and hold" radio function to each factory button, effectively doubling what can be controlled.

Keeping your factory features with an iDatalink-ready car stereo

If you're buying a compatible Kenwood, JVC, Pioneer, Sony, or Alpine receiver, you'll enjoy the outstanding performance of your receiver, plus seamless touchscreen control over most of the factory features in select vehicles (see Details for specific functions and installation notes).

Chrysler: You'll retain the use of the Uconnect® system (including voice command), along with your steering wheel audio controls and factory amp.

Fiat: You'll retain your vehicle's factory amp, USB port, and backup camera.

Ford: You'll keep your SYNC® system, including the factory Bluetooth, satellite radio (in select vehicles, see Details), steering wheel audio controls, and other great features.

GM: You'll retain the use of OnStar® system, along with your steering wheel audio controls, your factory amp, and safety warning chimes.

Honda: You'll retain your vehicle's steering wheel controls, Bluetooth, aux iInput, and factory amplifier.

Subaru: You'll retain your steering wheel controls, factory amp and sub, and Subaru backup camera.

Toyota: You'll retain your vehicle's A/V input, USB port, and backup camera.

Volkswagen: You'll retain your VW's Bluetooth, the factory digital amplifier and fader, plus VW's media device interface. Select Kenwood receivers allow you to display navigation info on your VW's multi-function screen.

Must Have

Bob from Plano, TX on 5/21/2019

2010 Ford Mustang

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

This is really cool. Seamlessly switches between SYNC and bluetooth to retain the factory features with the upgrade of the Kenwood receiver. Love the ability to see gauges on the Mustang. I was a little nervous about using this to control the A/C through the Kenwood touch screen, but it works seamlessly. This is a must-have if you are upgrading.

Pros: So much to love.

Cons: Many different versions of the installation manuals. Be sure to get the one that is specific to the features of your car.

Works like a charm

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Works like a charm, easy to "flash" (program). Being a Mac user, I had to download the desktop app for Mac. Worked flawlessly and super-intuitive for the non-technical user. I highly recommend getting the iDatalink HRN-RR-TO1 Factory Integration Adapter to use in concert the the Maestro - makes the final connection interface with the factory harness so much simpler even though there is a somewhat confusing array of connectors - follow the directions. Fortunately all plugs are different and will only fit one corresponding receptacle.

Pros: Easy to setup (flash).

Works wonderfully for my 07 Yukon XL Denali. I wasn't certain if I would be able to retain all of my factory amenities bu this module allowed it and I also gained a few things coupling it with The pioneer Avic-5200NEX.

Pros: Allows retention of factory Onstar, Sirius satellite, steering wheel controls, etc etc.

Cons: pricey but worth it.

Inaccurate information in reference to flashing Maestro module

Crutchfield customer from Largo, FL on 5/12/2019

2007 Toyota Tacoma

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Easy to program. Although, as an Apple Mac OS user, I was told it was not able to flash the Maestro module. After working out to use a neighbors Windows based computer, I logged into the iDatalink Maestro website, created an account and discovered that there is a Weblink Desktop app available for both Windows and Mac OS users that would have worked fine. The website states that iDataLink Maestro supports Windows only, if you limit yourself to a web-based download.

I love the idea of this device. I use it on an Alpine iLX-107 in a Jeep Wrangler Sport 2016. That combination means it's not as powerful as in some other cars. You can't adjust the climate, or in facy anything, but it's very cool to be able to see how the engine is performing. Nice little addon.

Pros: Useful to see all the data

Cons: Hard to install Options vary by vehicle type

My first time using this product in an installation and I am very impressed.after downloading the correct software files and pairing it with Right idatalink harness kit for your vehicle(sold separately),everything works perfectly.all steering wheel controls work as intended but can be customized and all vehicle info is displayed on your head unit screen if using a capable head unit. I will be using it in all my future installs. The wiring can get confusing and I would recommend having a pro installer if it's your first time. A very good product ????

Better than Factory Functionality

Oliver from Fairfield, CT on 4/30/2019

2015 Subaru WRX STI

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

This product is amazing, not only does it maintain all factory steering wheel controls, it adds features to the same controls if you press and hold them down. So, VOL - can decrease volume or MUTE if pressed down for a second. It did require me to solder and shrink wrap 17 wires (I didn't want to use wire nuts and I didn't use the much faster posi-locks). For my Subaru, every wire was nice and long, and exactly the same color combination as the Maestro harness. It made connections so much easier. The device is was easy to program (with a laptop, you flash it with firmware specific to your vehicle), its small and light, and the harnesses are long enough so I can remove the stereo head without any issues running out of wire slack.

Pros: Amazing level of integration with factory controls

Cons: Takes some time and care to install

Mostly works

Crutchfield customer from Baltimore, MD on 4/30/2019

2011 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

The module seems finicky at best, but once working, appears to do what it's intended to do. Steering Wheel controls function and The OEM Satellite radio works. After first install, the unit operated fine for several days and then the head unit would stop working intermittently. It was a mystery as to why. I pulled all the cables back out and everything seemed to be OK. There were no apparent cabling problems. I re-flashed the module and now it's been working consistently since then. There is also a button on the module that appears to be a reset switch of some sort. I'm guessing it is possible that the button may have been pushed, causing the problem. When reinstalling in the car, I took steps to ensure that the button couldn't be accidentally depressed. So far so good. While the OEM Satellite radio works. the turn signal chime will not work when the OEM Satellite radio is active. Strange, but apparently not something that can be overcome (based on the idatalink forum comments I read).

Pros: Eventually got it to do what it is intended to do.

Cons: Turn signal chime won't work when connected to OEM Satellite radio

Configuration was a pain. Had to use a windows PC, which I don't own so I need to track down someone who was willing to let me install software on theirs. Yet the configuration was done though a web interface. So it really is laziness that they used a windows only applet to write the data to the interface module rather than write something cross platform. Fortunately this is a one-time operation. Other than that, works flawlessly.

As long as you have a PC (not a Mac) with Internet Explorer, configuration wasn't bad. The product itself, though, is a little wonky. My Pioneer AVH-2440NEX responds to steering wheel controls until you push a button on the receiver, but after that it doesn't work until you re-start the car. I only recommend this if you want to keep your Satellite radio. It is pretty nice but has features you really can't, or shouldn't, use while driving. Otherwise I recommend just going with the basic wire harness adapters. You definitely want to let these guys pre-wire it for you, well worth it! Somehow it caused my Tire Pressure Monitoring System to quit working.

Pros: Allows you to keep many factory features.

Cons: Complicated to install. Instructions were not thoroughly explained. I lost my TPMS feature.

The best interface hands down. Good quality. Awesome features. Installed in my 07 Silverado with a Pioneer AVH2300NEX with NO problems. Take your time, study your setup and have patience with the wiring. I have years of experience installing aftermarket systems so installation was not hard, just took time. All worth it in the end.

Pros: Compatible with many vehicles VIA flash. Retains factory options. Allows for OBD2 features.

Cons: Tedious wiring. But it has to be done. Can only be flashed by a Windows based computer.

Soooo easy! I've installed hundreds of the old Peripheral Peswips style interfaces with their old style interfaces. Every car was a different mess of wiring. This thing is so easy you just program it and wire it in like a basic harness and you're done. Steering wheel interface doesn't require extra programming like other interfaces. Direct datalink plug and it just works perfectly from first time keyed on

Pros: So easy. No extra programming once in car. Simple simple simple wiring.

Cons: It didn't wire itself... I guess???

I like this kit better than the PAC kits. It was super easy to wire in, but there were two things. 1) the plastic is super cheap and very hard. I though I had the plugs firmly connected but when I installed the whole thing 2 of the 4 plugs came undone (and I blew the radio fuse in the engine compartment). So REALLY push hard when you install the unit. 2). Of all things you MUST USE internet explorer to programme the component. "edge" and "chrome" would do nothing (but no error message). Other than that, once in, worked perfectly.

Pros: Works perfect, programme and forget.

Cons: Cheap plastic connections, Must use Internet Explorer to porgramme.

After reading reviews I decided to avoid the headache and have the CrutchField ReadyHarness service added. Certainly glad that I did. Crutchfield wired everything up to the harness I purchased to replace my factory system with a Pioneer AVH-1440NEX head unit. Even with that service the install for the Maestro wasn't straight forward. The Maestro has to be flashed via Internet Explorer, Net Framework and you may have to adjust your security controls on the internet explorer to be able to get it to work. Honestly who uses Internet Explorer anymore? I ended up having to flash the unit 4 different times as the settings I wanted were not working properly. This was more of an annoyance than anything else. Do not install the unit until you test every single thing. Thankfully I headed my own advice here. Extremely happy but not user friendly at first.

Pros: TPMS digital read out and all the available options are well worth the money.

Cons: Not user friendly

Installed this in conjunction with iDatalink HRN-RR-TO1 Factory Integration Adapter. The installation was a FREAKING NIGHTMARE. My husband is an electrical engineer and this wasn't his first install rodeo. The module had to be re-flashed multiple times to get it to work properly. The connector that Maestro said should have the reverse camera (per their instructions) did not exist in our vehicle. Crutchfield confirmed this with their own diagrams of the car. Crutchfield helped him find the correct connectors and signals that then had to be tapped into, but the wires were pretty hard to reach and there wasn't much length to work with. The e-brake signal was not recognized by the DVD player, because the signal was not present where Maestro was looking for it, and so he had to find ANOTHER connector to tap into in order to bypass the Maestro and feed the signal to the receiver. Then he had to do another bypass because the reverse signalling to trigger the backup camera was also not recognized by Maestro. In total, he had to splice into six different signals to get the Maestro working. It is a design issue, not that they put the wrong harness in the right box. This could have all gone smoothly if Maestro had used the right wires and connectors! In all, he spent 15+ hours across 5 days and 5 hour+ phone calls with different Crutchfield techs. Kudos to Crutchfield for the assist, but stay away from this setup if you value your sanity.

A necessary evil. First, the iDatalink plugin that you need to download to flash the module requires specific versions of windows, Internet Explorer and .NET framework - so specific that an above-average user can't even get it to work. Fortunately, Crutchfield was able to help by sending a pre-flashed unit to replace the original one. The marketing materials also said this can be used with the Jeep Uconnect mic (not accurate).

Pros: it worked. sort of.

Cons: Not as easy to flash the module as it sounds - requires very specific setup on your computer that most modern ones don't have.

The iDatalink Maestro ADS-MRR really is the way to go if you're adding an aftermarket head unit to a vehicle with SYNC, steering wheels controls, factory amp, microphone, usb, etc. The programming was seriously easy IF you follow the instructions step by step. The iDatalink website has the wiring diagrams and instructions for every vehicle so you know exactly how to wire it up. It allows you to choose which factory options you wish to retain, including the steering wheel controls with an additional adapter which is vehicle specific. I definitely recommend this, although I wish these adapters that are required to add an aftermarket head unit/stereo weren't so expensive.

Pros: Allows Retention of Factory Options Detailed Instructions Quality Color-Coded Wiring Great Manufacturer Website Support

Cons: Costly

A must have for connecting your new entertainment system to a vehicle

Jeremy from Greensboro, NC on 2/12/2019

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I originally selected this option because I loved the idea of getting all kinds of information on my vehicle right in the entertainment system, and I can't tell you how awesome that is. A simple example is that it let me quickly see which tire was low when the low pressure light came on on the dash. But the ability to create customized dashboards with the measurements I want to see, was super cool as well. The best part though was the fact that this let me map all my steering wheel controls to the new stereo without having to do anything but a few selections, and add some new features for things like press and hold, which weren't part of the factory install. Really great!

Pros: Direct ODBCII connection, direct connector to the Pioneer system I purchased, the ability to map steering wheel buttons to functions in the stereo, and support for my factory subwoofer!

Cons: The firmware update process for the unit is a bit janky. That could be streamlined a little I think, but it works fine and wasn't a big deal.

This was my first time using Crutchfield. I was impressed with the level of detail and product testing. I was able to purchase the recommended installation kits tailored to the specs for by 2015 Honda CRV and am very happy with the results. I wanted the job done right and used a car auto installation service. They recommended different parts and modules. I am glad I trusted Crutchfield as the other recommended products had consistent reviews as cheap, poorly constructed and difficult to install. No wonder these were not offered at Crutchfield. The install was rough as the installer did not follow the recommended direction. What a hassle. As soon as I found the right install instructions thru Crutchfield all was easy. In trying to work out some other after market custom additions the folks at Crutchfield were available, knowledgeable and earnest. I feel am able to get the most out of my audio unit - set up for my needs - because I went with the parts recommended here. The 794ADSMRR worked as promised with a simple set up. Thank you.

Must-have addition to multifunction car stereo install

Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Overall very happy with this after 6 months of daily use. Installation is pretty straightforward-though far from 'simple.' Lots of wires to sort and connect. Only option to flash controller is by using Internet Explorer, which hasn't been on a computer of mine since the early 2000s... It not only allowed us to keep the steering wheel controls with the new Pioneer AVX Head unit we installed, the connectivity to the ODBII allowed us to pick up some funky new real-time info in the car itself - RPM, % fuel remaining, real-time tire pressure monitoring. That's pretty amazing. Only other quirk is that with one of the two factory keys, all the steering wheel buttons shift one position - up is now down, down changes input, etc. Called rah support, and of course their solution is to reflash it... I'm not taking the whole dash apart to pull the Maestro out just for that.

Pros: Preserves steering wheel controls, adds readouts for car functions that were not available with OEM stereo

Cons: Tricky install, requires computer from Reagan era to install.

Product works great, integrates well with my steering wheel controls. No problems with function whatsoever. However to program the module, you have to hook it up to a computer running Internet Explorer and let the website use Active X controls. This is extremely archaic technology, and a security risk. Overpriced and outdated, incomplete instructions. Not compatible with Ford Sync system, so I had to remove the entire system and reprogram the system simply so i could pair my phone to the head unit. HU will not allow bluetooth pairing for phone and ford sync pairing.

Pros: Let's you program your steering wheel controls...sort of

Cons: Won't let you have SYNC function bluetooth and pair phone with HU simultaneously. Directions outdated. Support staff were even confused as to what was needed and it still doesn't work exactly as it should

Ist let me say that ive been shopping with Crutchfield since 1993....ive purchased many items...most of which were perfect and met my expectations. A few times I needed to return an item and no questions or hassles ..(one of the great things about shopping at Crutchfield) The other great thing is the fantastic customer support !! By far the BEST in the industry bar none!! Ok now on to my review...I purchased this item along with a pioneer avh 2440 nex for my 2008 dodge charger srt8. Ive installed many head units over the decades so I was confident I could do it myself. Boy have things changed!! lol However this was a pretty straightforward install that was met with a few challenges. brought on by the lack of documentation provided by the manufacturer. The install instructions are a little on the vague side. Carefully study the wire diagram and be sure all of the colored connectors are hooked up properly. The issue I had was with the 3.5mm audio jack.....it plugs into the head unit AUX port......so you can retain Uconnect features.... That lil tidbit of info is not provided in the install diagram......I mistakenly plugged it in to the remote RAC jack ...Wrong!! lol After I got everything all buttoned up....the steering wheel radio controls and the head unit remote control would not function.... I swapped the plug to the Aux input and all is fine. Im very happy with this unit and it works seamlessly with my new Pioneer HU.

Pros: easy to flash online. retains a lot of factory features

Cons: Vague install instructions.....can be a lil difficult to find room for all the extra wiring behind the radio.

This product works great in my 2011 Cruze, much better than the recommended equivalent Metra/Axxess interface modules. I was able to retain all features and gain a great deal of "extras" out of my radio because of the in depth level of integration this unit provides.

Pros: * Profound level of integration * Small footprint * Drives my secondary display with useful data * Provides a visual parking assistance (in addition to the normal beeps)

Cons: * The web interface uses old-school ActiveX controls * Because of this, you have to bend over backwards to make IE11 work in Windows 10 with it. Google search for "maestro install windows 10" because someone has documented the detailed steps to make it work * On my secondary display the FM status is ugly/broken because many stations don't properly implement RDS; looks GREAT on all other screens

Awesome Product - ZERO Documentation!

In early 2018, I bought a 2015 Ford F150. Beautiful truck that was perfect for all my needs... except... that lame 4.3" screen and barely-there sound system! Crutchfield to the rescue! The Alpine iLX-207 is an EXCELLENT head unit! I just needed the iDatalink Maestro ADS-MRR and a iDatalink KIT-FTR1 dash plate to get it installed. I knocked a star off because there is virtually ZERO documentation for the plug that go into this thing. Some of them are the SAME but with different colors and you don't use all of them! So it wasn't immediately apparent if the color coding was purposeful or not. Also, one of the harnesses shown in the video looks "pre-formed". But all I had was a bunch of wires to connect up to something else. Again, without documentation, it took me like an hour to decipher what they were trying to convey there. I've installed many car stereos. This was definitely the most complex and I was OK with that. I just needed a little documentation to EXPLAIN the purpose of each plug so that I could intuit the installation process. In the end, the entire project was 100% successful!

Pros: Comprehensive Integration with 2015 Ford F150 No loss in OEM features

Cons: Inexcusable Lack of Documentation

Installed it's good device for integration with OEM features, however, I (partially) purchased Maestro for integration with my steering wheel controls and those controls are not working! Flashed and re-flashed per retailer's tech support but thus far, no steering wheel control.

Pros: Integrates many features fairly seamlessly and programming is easy (see Cons).

Cons: Seriously, you have to flash using Internet Explorer with a Windows machine. I had to borrow one just to flash, then borrowed again to re-flash and again with the re-flash. Stinks not having Mac capability with Chrome or Safari. Needs improvement!

Easy flash (be sure to use Internet Explorer instead of Chrome when flashing). Easy installation with F01 harness (also purchased through Crutchfield). Make sure the firmware in your head unit is up to date PRIOR to installing the Maestro unit. Incredible expansion of the head unit and vehicle capabilities, really like the fact that I now have 10 additional gauges for monitoring vehicle functions. I did not want to purchase stand alone gauge packages and have them clutter up the cab of my vehicle not to mention additional $$$. The Maestro unit solved that problem perfectly. Would give it 5 stars but on occasion I have to go into the settings and re-detect the vehicle PIDs. Overall very happy with the unit.

Pros: Easy flash & setup Easy install Greatly enhances head unit and vehicle interface

Cons: Occasionally have to re-detect vehicle PIDs

Climate control is a bit glitchy. If you install and the red light has only a single blink this means that the flash was not effective. To get this to work you need to reflash it to a totally different car and then go back and flash it to your vehicle. For whatever reason just reflashing to your vehicle does not completely reset and reflash the unit.

Know if you're installing with a compatible radio

2018 Ford F-150 XLT

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Let's get this out of the way: Crutchfield is awesome. Okay-iDatalink Maestro. Let's install a Jensen VX7528 in a 2018 Ford F150. Ugh - First, archaic interface requires windows XP, Vista or 7 and internet explorer to flash the module. So-I'm having problems on a Friday, their hours are until 8pm. I called around 4pm. No answer-guessing they left early for the Christmas holidays? I absolutely can't get the correct firmware to have the steering wheel controls do what they're supposed to. Crutchfield responded that the Jensen is not considered a Maestro/iDatalink compatible radio. What? I ordered everything the website suggested to get make everything work? If I'd have known that, I would have ordered a "Maestro/iDatalink compatible radio. Apparently when it interfaces via a idatalink cable/connection, steering wheel controls work. But you lose sync capability - not a big deal - but it's not a stated "con". So-here's a DIY customer sitting with a trashed truck interior, waiting through a weekend and holidays to see if the Maestro tech support have a firmware version that will support a Jensen radio and retain the Ford F150 steering wheel controls. Plan B - return the Jensen and order a "compatible" radio. Not a smooth install. Not my first - but my most frustrating to date. Important lessons/details learned during and after the purchase/install.

Pros:

Cons: Must know if radio is compatible with Maestro Loose sync

I've installed many car stereos before and this Maestro kind of had me second guessing the purchase. The wiring required me to cut a factory harness wire in my 2010 Ford Escape which I was skeptical about at first. But I called Crutchfield and they reassured me it's what it says in the instructions. Once everything was installed, I now have tire pressure loadouts, check engine codes, and other extras not on my current dash. It was well worth it after it was all said and done.

2018 Toyota RAV4

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

I chose this unit over the Crux interface offered by Crutchfield. The Maestro is more complicated to configure than the Crux, but the results were worth it. In addition to retaining both press and press/hold features of my steering wheel controls, the stereo I paired it with (Pioneer AVH-2440NEX) had an iDatalink interface which allowed me to retain any features I would have lost by removing the factory stereo from my 2018 Toyota RAV4. The Maestro interfaces with the vehicle's computer, so I am able see various gauges and readouts from my vehicle on the Pioneer's screen. If you're considering this interface, go to the iDatalink web site and check out their demo on programming the interface for your vehicle. You will need a computer with Windows installed (Mac/Chromebook/Linux not supported). I've seen reports that Windows 10 does not work, but this is not true. The only down side of going this route is that Crutchfield does not offer an install kit built around this interface, and may not be able to offer configuration support for it. The Crutchfield adviser helped me buy the parts I needed, and even extended a discount since I wasn't purchasing their already discounted installation kit. There was one part I was not able to purchase, the USB cable interface. This cable is bundled with the Crux interface, but not available separately. I bought the cable online. Despite the small difficulty implementing this interface, I'm very glad I chose it!

Pros: Retains press and press/hold steering wheel functions, and vehicle controls that are integrated into factory stereo. Interfaces with vehicle computer to provide lots of gauges and readouts.

Cons: Not bundled with a kit from Crutchfield, but they will help build a custom kit. USB cable to interface with vehicle USB port not available through Crutchfield. Configuration requires Windows computer.

I had a problem with the radio not turning off when the car was shut off. Several calls to tech support and ended up swapping the module for another. That didn't work so, I did some troubleshooting and figured out a fix. I suspect either the wiring harness is mis-wired or there is a software bug in the module. My fix worked and now everything seems to be fully functional.

Absolutely love it! Installed this in my 2018 Toyota 4Runner Limited (JBL) connected to a Kenwood DNX994s. Steering wheel controls, factory USB port and GPS antenna all integrated with the right accessories available for the Maestro RR setup. The only thing that didn't integrate is the factory microphone, installed the kenwood one on the A-pillar. Perfect integration and best of all I have tire pressure (TPS) PSI for each timer and OBD2 data including real-time gauges for speed, rpm, intake temp, exhaust temp, throttle position, MAF position, engine load, instant MPG and more. Super sizzle!

Pros: Makes a replacement head unit function beyond the OEM radio system.

Cons: Requires a bit of thought to figure out exactly which accessories you need to buy to integrate the GPS and USB. Also to note if you want to retain your XM you will need to purchase a tuner that is compatible with your head-unit.

Very disappointed. No where does it mention that you can ONLY flash this item with Internet Explorer 7. No other internet browsers work - not Firefox, not Google, not Apple and no version of Internet Explorer more recent than 7. Had to pay $25 to have it flashed, then when the professionals did the install in my truck there was absolutely no sound coming out of any speakers. Worked with Crutchfield support for 30 minutes and could never get it working. Installers hooked up a different brand they had and everything worked perfectly. Sent it back to Crutchfield for a refund. Buyer beware

Nice way to integrate to your vehicle

Robert from Kansas City, MO on 11/19/2018

2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

First, the instructions recommend that a qualified installer install this. This is my first Maestro install. I spent some time reading the instructions, which in some portions were vague, being more generic than for my particular vehicle. (This install -2013 Chevy Silverado 1500 pickup.) However, I was able to figure everything out using the online forums. You do have to go online and program the Maestro for your particular vehicle and the options you have. This is not difficult. The instructions say to use must use Internet Explorer (IE) and you have to download a program to run for the install. I don't this it would work with another browser (MS Edge, Chrome or Firefox- just type in IE in the Cortana search box- it's on your PC). Following instructions I had zero issues with this portion of the install. I wish that the instructions told the purpose of each connector as it plugs into the module. I did have one connector that would not latch in place and had to push really hard. Overall the integration with the truck was easy. Pretty much plug and go. In addition to bringing forward the integration I expected, it also brought forward a lot of engine operation and truck data that I did not know I would get. There are a couple of things that I am not sure of. First, I cannot initiate a call with the steering wheel controls, second with playing XM radio the turn signals don't make any sound.

Pros: Brings forward vehicle features cleanly.

Cons: Not for the faint of heart on the install. If you have not done a Maestro before spend time on the website forums getting up to speed. It is assumed that you know what you are doing and the instructions are tailored that way.

Clunky interface using DataLink to Ford Sync

Tim from Prescott Valley, AZ on 11/18/2018

2011 Ford F-250

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

The installation of this unit saltire tricky, in that there were some connections present that did not need to be made, which weren't articulated very well. The interface, while trying to retain Ford's Sync through a DataLink connectin priced to be more than clunky. Had a hard time determining if syncing to the receiver or to the actual Sync system was more useful. In the end, it was a big compromise.

Pros: Cool concept. Does work with Ford Sync, utilizing all factory controls.

Cons: Makes you choose between the cool features the receiver has vs. using the Sync system. More specifically, you can't Bluetooth to both, or hard connect to both the receiver and Sync. It's one or the other. Both work independently, but you miss out on some cool features by choosing one or the other. If you leave Ford Sync out of the equation, I suspect it would be terrific.

Fantastic product, inadequate instructions.

Kevin from Stamford, CT on 11/12/2018

2011 Toyota Sienna

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Fantastic product, inadequate instructions. The wiring diagrams for my vehicle provided by Crutchfield did not match the diagrams provided by idatalink when the unit was programmed. The diagram for my vehicle is missing the connection to hook up the backup camera (despite the website indicating that it will work, and Crutchfield indicating that it will work). The wiring diagram that came with this said it is impossible to retain the backup camera in my vehicle (also wrong, I found instructions elsewhere on the internet and successfully integrated the factory backup camera. The wiring diagrams presented 2 different ways of hooking up to retain the factory auxiliary input. Neither one worked. I understand it's difficult to maintain accurate databases of all vehicles, but when you sell a product like this, it is absolutely crucial that your information be maintained and fully accurate. I would up this review to 4 stars if it had better documentation, and 5 stars if I got my auxiliary input working (I am not 100% sure at this point that the port working is not my fault somehow, but with the inadequate documentation, I can't tell for sure.

Pros: Product retains many factory systems, works with many cars

Cons: documentation is inaccurate and sometimes disputes itself. Documentation appears the same but contains completely different content if downloaded from different sources. (even different pages on the manufacturer's own website).

2018 Toyota Prius

Pathetic!!. This unit is so poorly assembled that the connectors have to be forced on. It requires older versions of Windows, older versions of Internet Explorer, a no longer supported version of .NET and Javascript all of which endanger the security of your network. It does not support the factory installed microphone and changes the function of your steering wheel controls. The support materials that are supposed to be supplied with the download are primitive and not informative. The iDatalink Tech Support is only available weekdays Canadian time.

Pros: Poorly made, poorly supported, poorly documented. Requires and insecure web connection to program.

Cons: Partial retention of factory controls

The functionality of it is really nice, regaining my steering controls and being able to pull up info on the car is nice. I already had a check engine light come on and being able to immediately pull up the code, research it and clear it made the iDatalink worth every penny. What I didn't like about the product; windows formatting only, seriously. I knew that it had to be done on a windows computer before I purchased, but I figured that I would know somebody who has one, i was wrong. I'm not sure what is up with the company not making the formatting process able to be done from a mac, but in my opinion this is ridiculous and while I was dealing with this issue, i was regretting my purchase 100% . I called a local car stereo place, they wanted over $100 to format it for me. I also had the wiring harness done at crutchfield so without the idatalink formatted the stereo would not work. So this is where crutchfield came in, and I have to say that after years of purchasing items from these guys and always being happy with the service and products, I am again extremely glad I purchased from them. I was able to call and return the idatalink and they were able to format one for me, definitely not a typical situation but had I not purchased with crutchfield, i wold have had alot more issues. Moral of this story, purchase from crutchfield, you will be extreemly grateful of supportive customer service, yes I will purchase from them again.

With the iDatalink HRN-RR-VW1 Interface Harness, the only cables needed from the box were the data and audio input cables into the Pioneer stereo. Only other connections to Pioneer stereo was the pwr/speaker plug (spliced into the interface harness), radio antenna, USB extension cable (supplied with the stereo), and the back-up camera video cable. Programming the module was easy using Windows PC and USB cable - pictures of steering wheel and dash illustrated options in section for selecting which should be loaded. System allowed keeping bluetooth connection to car for all phones that had already been connected as well as maintaining the original hands-free microphone -- bluetooth in stereo is not used for hands-free calling and the stereo's hands-free microphone is also not required. Car's AUX jack works same as it did with the factory radio, but additionally, the Pioneer stereo recognizes iPhone plugged into the AUX jack. Also, there is PLENTY of room behind the stereo in the VW Jetta's dash for the extra connectors and the iDatalink Maestro ADS-MRR module and interface harness & connectors. No problems whatsoever with installation or function over the past 10-12 days since install.

Pros: Easy set-up and installation. Retains factory equipment separate from radio (steering wheel controls, bluetooth, hands-free mic, AUX jack).

Cons: Strange transfers gauge information to radio, but not the time. Have to set time separately on radio and on car's instrument panel.

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee purchase (What's this?)

Bought this so I could retain the basic steering wheel controls. Just makes it easier to control my radio while I drive. My factory radio in my toyota fj cruiser just died and thought why not, so got a pioneer double din, the T01 harness and this unit. One thing I've got to say is the instructions aren't the greatest, but after you install it you realize thats all you needed. First of all, you program the maestro unit, plug it in and it will flash the firmware based on your car and steering wheel control. That part was easy. Then you start looking at the 20 harnesses and you start thinking oh what did i get into lol. Basically, the T01 harness for toyota is the main harness, you need to plug in a secondary harness as the factory has 3 plugs and one of them on the T01 doesn't fit, but of course they provide one that does, just look for it and plug it in. Also the OBDII port plug plugs in the harness not the maestro, so looking around you'll find the wires that match the plug. Get the stereo harness quick connectors #500, this product lets you twist all the wires together, I needed exactly one pack and I had one left over. The instructions for the wire to wire connections are provided in the maestro website. I think I connected the USB just in case I plug in a usb with mp3's, or connect to the phone. The data link cable from maestro has a plug on the pioneer so that was great. Just make sure you have room behind the unit for all the wires and maestro.

Pros: made installation of the radio much simpler, actually finished in 3 hours, and i took a lot of time wiring each wire together with connector kit. have functionality of my steering wheel controls shows obdii information on my stereo lots of inputs for rear view camera and other things

Cons: it's a little intimidating looking at all the harnesses, but just find all the ones that plug into your factory harness and forget the others. Sometimes when you click steering wheel buttons too fast, sometimes maestro gets out of synch and i turned off head unit and it worked again.

This module bridges the factory features with the aftermarket headunit. It works flawlessly at mimicking the steering wheel controls. It also retains many factory features like the factory amplifier, satellite radio, back-up camera. Flashing the unit is easy but does require Internet Explorer (yes, the old IE). I recommend connecting a long enough micro-USB cable to be able to reflash it even after your new radio is installed--this does require disconnecting the vehicle battery if you need to flash it when installed.

Pros: Easy to use, supports many factory features, great support from iDatalink on their forum, adds features to my factory setup (gauges)

Cons: Some cables could be longer, lots of different connectors where one large one would suffice, IE for flashing the module, cannot flash while vehicle battery is connected, lots of discussions about bad connections on forums

I highly recommend this. I bought this and the factory harness and had it pre-wired. Literally plug and play. Took all the guess work out. I retained my steering wheel controls and also have displayable data of my truck on the radio. Awesome!

Pros: Retains function of wheel controls. Also have me visibility of everything my truck is doing as far as the engine and trans.

Cons: None.

This is what you need to make your steering wheel controls work. You program it for your car so you need a windows computer available. I had to call tech support so they could add the serial number of my new Kenwood RADIO to their database. If you get an "invalid serial number" message when you try to program the module, you MUST CALL tech support so they can add the serial number. Its quick. Don't waste your time trying to debug the problem. iDatalink needs to add the serial number, there's nothing you can do. This will happen with newly manufactured radios. You can also modify what the buttons on the steering wheel do. . Also, you can double up each button by adding a "long-press" option to every button on the steering wheel. That's a great feature. This also is used to link your OBDII computer to your new radio, if the radio supports that. Adds nifty dials and sensors to the head unit showing temperatures, pressures, RPM, speed, other stuff from the engine performance data. Another neat feature.

Pros: Necessary for steering wheel controls, lots of customizable options.

Cons: New radios won't be in the database so you have to call tech support if that happens.

iDatalink Maestro ADS-MRR Interface Module

Operationally I give it 4 stars, but it lost its programming and I had to open up my dash and partially remove the head unit in order to re-flash the unit. I take off another star because it's so clumsey and time consuming to flash. I was able to do that, but I seem to have made a mistake in the left back-side steering wheel buttons. The top button now switches between albums on my music usb drive whereas it used to just go to the next tune on the album. The middle button used to switch albums, but now does nothing. So, having reassembled the dash, I have to take it all apart again and do the entire process over. I'm thinking of leaving the usb to mini-usb flash cable attached and run it into my glove box. I would then set up my computer next to my vehicle to flash it. I don't have a laptop, but this will be much easier than taking the whole dash apart each time I have to program it. I will have to check with the idatalink folks to see if this method is possible. I'm afraid they're going to tell me all the other connectors have to be removed, in which case this method probably won't be practical as it's so hard to get to the unit without removing the head unit.

Pros: It works well when it works

Cons: Power goes through the maestro to the head unit, so if the maestro looses its programming, the head unit went black and no music at all. Too difficult to re-flash and it should not need to be.
