The rugged, easy-to-use marine receiver and powerful 6-1/2" speakers will stand up to sun, spray, and rough weather while delivering the performance you expect from JBL. The package also includes an antenna and a dash-mount USB extender.
A compact, rugged receiver
This JBL marine digital media receiver packs a lot of cool features into a compact, weather-resistant design. You can check out AM/FM/WB radio, or you can use the USB and auxiliary inputs to access the tunes stored on your phone or music player. This WAKE series receiver also sports the latest Bluetooth® 5.0 technology, so you can listen to music streamed from your smartphone or other device.
The R3500 also includes a pair of rear-mounted preamp outputs, so you can expand your system with a marine amp in the future. The black and white LED display is easy to read in all lighting conditions, while the IPX7-rated face and controls will stand up to the elements for seasons to come.
Great-sounding 6-1/2" speakers
JBL's MS6520 speakers are made for use in the harsh marine environment. Designed to handle sun, spray and scrub-downs, these powerful speakers feature waterproof motor structures, a one-piece cast-polymer basket, a sealed magnet, and durable rubber surrounds. This design delivers full bass response, while maintaining excellent resistance to sunlight and moisture.
JBL is known for great sound, so it's no surprise that they put some of their best thinking into these marine speakers. Patented Plus One™ polypropylene cones give you an impressive speaker-cone area, so you can enjoy higher sensitivity, increased low-frequency thump, and a richer overall listening experience. The weather-resistant dome tweeters are mounted on the grilles, so you'll hear all the musical details.
Made for marine use
JBL tests all their marine audio gear to make sure it's tough enough to survive life in the marine environment. This rugged stereo will stand up to storms, spray, sun, and even the occasional spilled beverage, so you can relax, have fun, and crank some tunes.

The display screen supports song/artist/album information (no album art) from connected Bluetooth and USB audio devices. You can adjust the display's contrast level for optimal viewing. A 3-way rotary knob makes it easy to adjust the volume, as well as navigate and select menu options. There are also five push-buttons that control functions such as power, source, and playback. Anytime a button is pressed the unit outputs a beep tone (this can be turned off).
Audio Section: The JBL R3500 marine receiver is equipped with a built-in 20 watts (RMS) x 4 channel / 55 watts (Peak) x 4 channel amplifier that is 2-ohm stable. The JBL R3500 is outfitted with a stereo RCA line output that can be used to connect an external power amplifier. This stereo RCA line output is full-range and balances/fades with the front speaker outputs.
- Equalizer: The marine receiver features 5 EQ preset modes - Flat, Classic, Pop, Rock, or Off.
- Tone Control: The marine head unit also offers independent Bass & Treble control, along with Balance & Fader adjustment.
- Loudness: When listening to music at low volume levels, the Loudness feature will boost the bass & treble response.
- Turn-On Volume: In addition, you can setup the marine stereo to turn-on at the same volume level (0-50) each and every time.
Bluetooth Audio Streaming: The JBL R3500 supports wireless audio playback (AD2P) and control (AVRCP) of a Bluetooth source device, such as your smartphone or tablet. You'll be able to wirelessly stream stored music, music apps and other audio content on your Bluetooth source device to the marine receiver. You'll also be able to control basic playback functions (such as Play/Pause & Previous/Next Track) from the receiver's front-panel. In addition, song/artist/album info (no album art) will be displayed on the unit's front-panel. You can only pair and connect one Bluetooth source device at a time.
Note: This unit does not support Bluetooth hands-free communication for making and answering phone calls.
USB Port: The JBL R3500 is equipped with a rear-panel USB (type-A) port attached to the chassis by a 6" pigtail. The USB port allows you to connect a USB thumbdrive. The unit supports audio playback & control of MP3/WMA audio files stored on a compatible USB thumbdrive (up to 32GB). The unit offers Play/Pause, Fast Forward/Reverse, Previous/Next Track, and Random/Repeat playback functions. This unit will also display song/artist/album information (not album art). The USB port (5V/0.5A) can also charge the battery of some USB devices.
Note: The unit's USB port does not support Apple iOS or Android OS devices. USB hubs and card-readers are not supported.
Aux Input: This unit features a rear mounted, stereo RCA auxiliary input on a 6" pigtail so you can connect an external audio source. A RCA-to-Minijack cable (sold separately) will be required for the connection of a portable audio player with a headphone jack output.
USB/Aux Adapter: The included USB/Aux adapter provides easy connection and disconnection of your USB thumbdrive and portable MP3 player. This adapter features an 3' cable terminated by a male USB (type-A) connector and male stereo RCA connectors which plug into the marine receiver's rear-panel USB port and Aux input. On the other end of the cable is a housing which contains a female USB (type-A) port and 3.5mm minijack input which can be mounted in a more convenient location. The USB/Aux adapter is designed to be flush-mounted and requires a cut-out of 1.315" (diameter) x 1.9375" (depth). A plastic collar locks the adapter into place. An integrated rubber cover protects the connections from the marine environment.
AM/FM/WB Tuner: The JBL R3500 marine receiver features a built-in AM/FM tuner with manual, seek, and preset tuning. You can select either US or European tuning. It also features a built-in weather band tuner. You can store up to 12 FM, 6 AM, and 6 WB station presets. Stations can be stored manually or automatically. There is Preset Scan function that scans each preset station in the current band for 6 seconds. An 8' dipole antenna with a male Motorola connector is included.
Bulkhead Mount: The JBL R3500 requires a rectangular cutout in the bulkhead for inserting the chassis. The marine receiver has a shallow mounting depth, perfect for space conscious installation on small boats and personal watercrafts, where this is especially crucial. Four screws (supplied) fasten the faceplate against the mounting surface, and hold the included waterproof gasket against the bulkhead. A supplied mounting gasket also assists you with the cutout and drilling the screw holes.

Note: The marine receiver does not meet the dimensions or include a mounting sleeve or ISO-mount screw holes to accommodate standard automotive installation.
Marine Rated Speakers: With waterproof motor structures, a one-piece cast-polymer basket, a sealed magnet, rubber surrounds and a grille-mounted tweeter, the JBL MS6520 holds up to the sun, the sea spray, all that salt, and all those wash-downs. The grille-mounted tweeter allows the front of the woofer cone to be sealed, protecting the motor structure from sea spray. The polymer-coated cellulose fiber woofer offers greater resistance to the elements.
