This compact receiver fits into a standard gauge opening
JBL's PRV-175 marine digital media receiver will change the way you listen to music on your boat — without forcing you to modify your vessel. This multimedia receiver packs a lot of features into a compact design that fits into a standard tachometer opening.
You'll enjoy AM/FM radio, of course, plus built-in Bluetooth® that lets you stream music from your smartphone. You can also use the rear aux input for your music player, or plug a thumb drive into the rear USB port to enjoy your favorite music.
Ready for an amp when you are
The PRV-175 features a set of rear-mounted preamp outputs, so you can expand your system with a marine amp in the future. The LED display lets you see what you're listening to with just a glance, while the watertight, UV-stable face and controls will stand up to sun, salt and moisture when you're riding the waves.
Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

Have gone through two of these units on my garage kept flats boat. Both eventually failed to power up after about four months of use. Went through wiring and resets with tech support each time. It works great before it dies. Going to try another gauge-style head unit.
Pros: Sounds good, easy to use
Cons: Doesn't last long

I purchased this for use on my motorcycle. I had issues with a standard dash mount CD player type, and thought this would be a good replacement and have always been fond of JBL products. I reconfigured my fairing, and installation was a breeze... Was pretty excited. Became quite disappointed when as I was holding the volume button, the unit shut off....as a matter of fact, anytime I held a button down, the unit powered off. Thought I got a bad unit. Returned and replaced it, reinstalled, and the same issue. Figured I could deal with it, as I was only using Bluetooth feature, not the radio. After a few weeks, the Bluetooth feature stopped working, aux inputs would not work, and pressing of the selector buttons turns the unit off. Maybe the vibration is too much for the unit, but I figured it would get as much of a beating, if not more in marine application. I would not recommend this ....at least in motorcycle applications.
Pros: Easy installation.
Cons: Need to read the small print in the item description.... USB does not support iPhone or iPad, only USB. Other issues as noted above.

Who listens to CD's now days? Perfect unit to Bluetooth Pandora or other music sources not to mention the USB connection. Just load a jump drive and rock & roll while you troll! Although the compact design doesn't take up a lot of room on the console it's not short of bells and whistles. The big display is easy to read, large buttons and it's rugged design as well as all of the built in the features is everything you need for music on the water.
Pros: Big display is easy to read, large buttons and rugged design as well as all of the built in the features.
Cons: "Beep" mode is not loud enough?

Ideal rig if you don't intend to play CDs. Shallow installation with a single bracket to hold the unit in place. Plug and play wiring and crimp wiring make install a breeze. Featurewise, it's bare bones with no EQ or even Bass/Treble/Loudness. Bluetooth range is not much more than about ten feet. Mine's installed in my motorhome so I just put my phone on a shelf next to the JBL and forget about it.

My review will perhaps mirror a previous post, but it is what it is.First of all, there are other marine units very similar to the PRV 175 out there on the market. With some in depth reading and also my heavy bias toward all JBL audio, I chose the 175.Although all had similar faceplate layouts, the competitors had an overall cheaper appearance.I can say that the JBL quality comes through with sturdy buttons and an easy to read display.Fortunately the 175 has easily paired up with all three different bluetooth devices that I have tried.I do have a slight humm while bluetooth is playing, but it could possibly be a grounding issue on my end.It is however crystal clear, utilizing a corded patch with USB and the 3.5mm plug-in.I purchased a JL Audio XMC-USB plug in for my USB and 3.5mm wired connection point. It's an expensive, but nice addition.I'm sure there are others out there that may be cheaper, but in all fairness, the JL Audio product is heavy duty pro quality. Both the PRV-175 stereo and the plug unit were easy installs using the correct size hole saw for each.Overall, this is a top quality, handsome unit with enough power to drive a 4 ohm / 4 channel speaker set up, but runs a little shy of the punch to drive an 8 ohm / 4 ch setup. On the downside, navigation for sound tweaking can be confusing. The unit also runs so hot (on the underside) that I cant touch it for more than about 4 seconds.Hot enough for me to re-route some wiring out of concern. Can't comment on FM reception.
Pros: Great looks.Looks awesome installed. Appears to be weather tight. Has a display dimmer for night operation. Easy to read display. Bluetooth pairing has been a breeze.
Cons: The PRV-175 seems to run a little on the hot side Like with all bluetooth's, only one stereo can pair up at a time. i.e. you cant pair your stereo and your buddies stereo at one time.Same with bluetooth speakers. That is why bluetooth capable speakers are sold one speaker at a time. (not JBL's problem, it's just how bluetooth works and it's limitation). Only 2 RCA outs Adjusting Bass,Treble,Fade , L & R can get confusing. Buy a hole saw for cutouts if you don't have one. Requires ext USB &

Nice unit. Instantly paired with my Razor HD (bluetooth). Connections seem to be of high quality. I connected this to a 60/4 JL Audio amp and it sounds FANTASTIC. It does sound a little better when connected to the phones with a cable but you lose the ability to control the phone with the 175. I purchased the USB/Headphone jack extension and really like it. Lost a star because it runs kind of warm, even with an external amp through the RCA output, so it doesn't defeat the internal amp when using external, apparently.
Pros: Sounds great.
Cons: Runs a little hot...I hope it holds up.
