Audiophile sound and beautiful looks

Music Hall's easy-to-use MMF-2.3 Special Edition turntable is a stylish way to get back into vinyl, thanks to its gorgeous real wood finish. Plus, Music Hall engineered this 'table to deliver outstanding value, sporting a minimalist design that focuses on the critical components that benefit sound quality — the main bearing, motor, and tonearm.

High-quality construction for top-notch performance

The MMF-2.3 Special Edition's sturdy MDF chassis rests on adjustable, vibration-damping rubber feet that provide a solid, low-resonance foundation. Its heavy steel alloy platter spins on a high-precision stainless steel and bronze bearing assembly for smooth, silent rotation. The DC synchronous motor ensures superior speed stability for accurate playback. The damped motor mounts and belt-drive system effectively isolate the motor's vibration from the chassis to prevent noise from being transferred to the cartridge.  Finally, the table's custom carbon fiber tonearm provides superb tracking ability to faithfully follow the grooves of your albums. A silicone-damped lift for gently raises and lowers the arm, protecting both the stylus and your records.

Quick and easy to assemble

The MMF-2.3 Special Edition comes out of the box virtually ready to play. Its pre-matched, factory-mounted phono cartridge and tonearm take the guesswork out of installation, and give you optimized sound quality with minimal effort. A few simple steps to dial in key settings like tracking force, anti-skating, and platter speed are all it takes to get this player primed and ready to deliver spacious, detailed music.

Q
What cartridges would be a better upgrade?
[ VIRGINIA  Jul 18, 2020 ]

A
Spirit cartridge will work and not break the bank.
[ SYLVESTER  Jul 24, 2020 ]
A
I just upgraded my MMF 2.3SE from the stock Spirit cartridge to a Hana SH, which is a sexy, sexy cartridge. I've had minimal experience with moving coil designs in the past, but the SH also uses a Shibata tip stylus so it pulls detail from way down in the groove, and alnico magnets for a warmer sound. It has really worked out well with the acrylic platter upgrade for the 2.3SE.
[ Dirk  Jul 22, 2020 ]
A
I think my first question, Did you put at least 20 to 25 hours on the original cartridge ? Don't sell the cartridge short if you don't have the hours on it. I was quite surprised with it after break in. I think cartridge is definitely a big part of personal preference. I personally like Grado and Ortofon. I tried a Grado Gold prestige and also an Ortofon OM 30. They were both improvements. Audio Technica is also quite good. I'm pretty sure that's the maker of the cartridge that comes with the turntable. Do a lot of research and speak with an advisor at Crutchfield, they are great people.
[ Craig  Jul 20, 2020 ]
A
I'm leaning toward the Sumico line. I have not upgraded yet.
[ Kenneth  Jul 19, 2020 ]

The stock cart is not too bad - a bit bright and tilted to the high frequencies. If you are looking for a more full bodied presentation, I recommend you check out the Nagaoka MP-110. It's a bit more rolled of on the treble frequencies, but a solid choice. I went with a AT VM540ML. It has better detail and balance, but at the expense of a bit of low end punch. 3 things you should be aware of with this table... 1. The dustcover is low, so it is best to use carts with a lower profile. 2. The cartridge connectors and the wires are VERY FRAGILE. 3. The tonarm mass is low (7 grams or so) so chose your cart accordingly - medium or high compliance,

A
I really like the cartridge that came with it but a friend upgraded to an Ortofon 2M Red and loves it.
[ Roger  Jul 18, 2020 ]
A
Be careful with the tone arm wires. Use a small screwdriver to pry the connectors off. The cartridge I recommend is AUDIO-TECHNICA VM540MC
[ Michael  Jul 18, 2020 ]
A
I'm sorry, I don't know. I have had no issues with what came on my turntable. If you find a great replacement, please pass it on.
[ Randall  Jul 18, 2020 ]
A
I am very happy with the standard cartridge that came with it
[ Brett  Jul 18, 2020 ]
Q
Has anyone had the problem with the motor making noise? Mine was fine for 3 days but this morning it was making a loud enough noise you could hear it across the room.
[ Roy  Jan 01, 2020 ]

A
Never had a noise issue
[ Craig  Jul 20, 2020 ]
A
No, I'm about 60 hours in on my new MMF2.3SE and haven't experienced the type of noise you describe.
[ Dirk  Jan 12, 2020 ]
A
No, my motor is quiet.
[ Barton  Jan 02, 2020 ]
A
I have not had this issue. Motor is practically silent.
[ STEVEN  Jan 01, 2020 ]
A
So far, no. That sounds like a warranty issue. I'd contact the company/Crutchfield.
[ Douglas  Jan 01, 2020 ]
A
Nothing yet, sorry to hear about the noise. Had mine for many months without issue.
[ Randall  Jan 01, 2020 ]
Q
The Overview tab indicates that the MMF 2.3 Special Edition has electronic control for three speeds (33-1/3, 45, and 78 rpm), but the Details tab indicates only two speeds (33-1/3 and 45). Can this turntable have a 78 rpm speed?
[ Robert  Dec 11, 2018 ]
3 answers
A
Yes it can with a change of the belt position
[ Craig  Jul 20, 2020 ]
A
It has a setting for 78 and like the 45 it requires a belt adjustment.
[ Roger  Jul 18, 2020 ]
A
It sure can play 78's. It requires that you change the belt and then press a button twice to get it ready to play them My Bio: https://www.crutchfield.com/bio/Paul

Q
I've read that the MMF 2.3 SE edition includes not only the wood veneer plinth but also an electronic speed control whereas the standard MMF 2.3 does not have electronic speed control. Is this true? Are there other differences between the 2.3 and the 2.3SE? Thanks!
[ Richard  Jul 15, 2017 ]

A
Thanks for your question. For information on comparing two or more models I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences and help you make the best choice for your system and your budget.

Q
What is the pre-amp people are talking about?
[ Rita  Jan 17, 2017 ]
1 answer
A
You'll need one to get the full sound. It changes the phono line into a digital one so your speakers will put out the music in full capacity. Without a preamp, you can turn it up as loud as it will go and it wont be loud at all. If you got the music Hall turntable, I recommend the music Hall mini preamp
