Exceptional!

I was debating between the ESL X and ESL 9 speakers for the longest time. They would already be a lot of speaker for my smaller dedicated listening room. I have had them set up for a week now and upgraded my speaker cables too. WOW....I waited all my life to get a set of these and I couldn't be happier! The first song listened to brought tears to my eyes! I agree with many others....keep them out from the wall to GREATLY improve the sound and don't toe them in to much. The panels produce details better than anything I have ever owned. I just can't get enough.

Pros: speed, detail, clarity, overall sound quality

Cons: a little fussy on positioning, hard to move around.

I heard Martin Logan Spears's years ago after hearing them for the first time. Seeing that Crutchfield carried them at a good price I could not resist. My wife and I have enjoyed listening to many hours of music streaming Tidal through my B&K system. Depth of the sound stage is breath taking. You will not be disappointed!!

Pros: To many to list

Cons: None

I am not one to give 5 stars normally. I've never bought anything that I didn't think could be improved at the same price point. For me, I can't see much room for these to get better without jumping to the next price point. They sound unique. All I can say is I close my eyes and am lost and surrounded my clear, accurate sound. I paired them with the ML 800 sub due to space issues and that provides enough bass and extension for my solely 2.1 channel music-only set up. The first time I played these I was replacing a set of ML ESLs and wasn't sure the price difference would be worth it; spoiler alert- it was. When the music started I could not stop smiling, almost spiritual. I apologize for not being able to give a more technical review but I am only measuring by my ears' standard. Challenges are these need fairly specific placement as their sweet spot is smaller. Part of that is my limited space which adds to the star rating as I know these are NOT optimally placed and still sound excellent. They would have lost 1/2 a star if allowed as they promote a higher sensitivity rating than I experienced and was later confirmed by tech reviews I read. Honestly, though, they sound so good louder anyway... Lastly, some may find the highs a little soft but I prefer it to most that seem too tuned for soundtracks, not music. Lessens listening fatigue, IMO. Very lastly but not least, whatever you people at Crutchfield are paying Charles; double it and it is still a bargain.

Pros: Sound Sound Probably sound And definitely Crutchfield Customer Service

Cons: Really helped with subwoofer Sensitivity rating is questionable. ML claims 91, tech reviews I've read put it at 89, which seems right. (They sound so good louder, anyway!)

I have been in the audio industry for 58 years and have had all types of speakers. These ESL X Martin Logan are the most enjoyable speakers I have had. These ESL X replaced my B&W 802's. The ESL X are more open, faster, have superior imaging and sonic realism. My system is the PS Audio Signature BHK Preamp, Signature BHK 300 mono blocks, top of the line PSA Dac, Oracle Primeire turntable and the best wire money can buy. I have paired these speakers with an 18 inch sub woffer of my own design, driven by a 1000 watt amp and eletronic x-over. This is as close to perfection that I have ever been. The ESL X will not do all this without first class components. These bad boys need to be far away from back and side walls. Set up is crutial to their preformance. Buy these and you will be happy happy happy !!

You definitely need a strong amp to get these powered as they need to be, once you do they are fantastic.

Pros: Works of art

Cons: Their size may be an issue for some, do best in a larger space with room to be away from walls.

I am so very, very pleased with these speakers. I am hearing "so much more" than was possible with my old ones. I listen exclusively to concert music, and the electrostatics seem to be a perfect fit. They are still new, and perhaps there could be a tiny touch more base; but this may develop as they ripen, and I am still working on their best placement. But I can hear individual instruments and their placement within the orchestra, with such clarity, it is a joy ! And solo piano works are just amazing. I was listening to Schumann's Fantasie op. 17, and what a powerful and moving experience. I could really hear "everything" he put into it. It was wonderful. So, the bottom line is that I am very impressed with these speakers, and really enjoying them so much. I would recommend them to anyone who loves classical music.

Amazing performance with these, but they do require good amplification

Seriously amazing speakers at any price. I upgraded to these from a pair of Martin Logan Source panels. Properly set up and paired with a decent amp it's like the music just materializes three dimensionally in mid air between them. Compared to the Source these have similar character but are overall more articulate, produce a deeper, wider soundstage with much better mid bass punch and lower bass response. It's a bigger, fuller presentation where the Source (which I loved) sounded a little lean by comparison in my system. I love the electrostatic sound more than any speaker I have ever heard. For me, nothing comes close in terms of detail and resolution, especially with vocals or acoustic music, although they sound great with everything thrown at them including movies and games. I used them with a separate 10" sub to enhance the extreme bottom end and the setup is the best my system has ever sounded. Highly recommended.

Pros: - Exceptional detail and clarity - Good price/performance ratio - Excellent build quality - Good looks. It's not an eyesore in the room despite the larger size.

Cons: - Requires really good amplification to achieve its full potential. If you run an integrated, it's worth considering an external dedicated power amp or dual mono setup if you have the budget/space in order to truly realize the best sound these have to offer.

ESLX is a monster of a system

These speakers are the bomb. You're supposed to listen to speakers and compare but when I have even Motion 4 with a sub sounds better than everything else. Best description is it's like listening to headphones for soundstage. A piano piece had harmonics from the string behind me. Ectrostatic speakers play acoustic instruments vocals symphony better than anything else. That's a fact. So I played House music Kraftwerk 3D. Amazing. I am running a JL dominion 10" and BTW I needed to give it 5 stars. I had sub turned off on the DAC when I reviewed it. But synth bass was incredible. Beautiful tone and frequency response. Shakes the house but symphony bass sounds real. I read a comment they have too much midrange. Don't think so. They are the standard to be compared too. I may monoblock my two Rotel and have 300 each then 120 a side from a Yamaha for the top but just bi amped and wire with 120 X 4 one amp on subs the other panels is strong and clean. I read dust is a problem and I've seen video of people cleaning them so I'm using the covers when not using them. May not be a tower of driving to slam rap pop or rock but that's now my idea of home audio. But it may. Jaw dropping clarity and accuracy. Location forgiving. I dropped them where it looked good and it's perfect. Doesn't block the room and is easy to move. Best speaker in its price range. Cruthfield had great price service and shipping. Would recommend going up to the ESLX for a bigger panel e

Pros: Will sound like you never heard before. Looks nice doesn't kill a room. Surprisingly plays real music better too. Can load it up with 400 watts a side.

Cons: May be dust sensitive so may need light cleaning or kept covered when not in use for a period of time. That said MartinLogan name on the cover would be nice or better looking fabrics.

Martin Logans, beautiful and great sounding speakers

Love the new sound, even with my little Yamaha S501. Still playing with placement, but have a nice wide soundstage with definitive imaging. Depth of soundstage is not as good as it could be, but probably more of an amp problem than speaker issue. Super cool look though.

Pros: Crystal highs and mid range. Better base than I thought.

Cons: Sound based on placement, is a bit touchy.
