The MartinLogan Outdoor Living Foundation 8.1 System is versatile and weather-resistant — ideal for creating an immersive sound system for a large pool or patio (up to 3,000 feet). The system includes eight hardy satellite speakers that can be stake-mounted in the soil, plus a burial-rated 8" subwoofer for deep, musical bass.
A standard two-channel amplifier can power the speakers in a stereo system at 8 ohms, or a mono system at 4 ohms. Wiring diagrams for setting up each type of system are included. For best results, use the custom-designed MartinLogan MP500 power amplifier. Outdoor Speaker System: The MartinLogan Outdoor Living Foundation 8.1 System lets you add rich, clear audio to your outdoor living or entertainment space while blending in with the landscape. The system includes an 8" in-ground subwoofer and 8 satellite speakers, letting you evenly distribute sound throughout the area without having to disturb your neighbors. The Outdoor Living Foundation 8.1 System is ideal for outdoor spaces up to 3,600 sq. ft.
Satellite Speakers: The Outdoor Living Foundation 8.1 System includes 8 satellite speakers, each with their own 12" ground stake. The 2-way satellite speakers are comprised of a 4" midrange/bass driver, that features a mineral-filled polypropylene cone with a Nitrile-Butadiene rubber surround, and a 3/4" X-Pal, ferro-fluid cooled dome tweeter. The tweeters feature a Perforated Phase-Aligning (PPA) tweeter lens and a die-cast low-diffraction baffle/heat sink. The satellite speakers carry an IP54 weather-proof rating.
Subwoofer: The outdoor speaker system includes an in-ground subwoofer that features an 8" driver with dual 8-ohm voice coils. The water-resistant driver is housed in a durable HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) enclosure designed for partial-burial. The top of the enclosure features a "mushroom cap" hood that protects the speaker from the elements while evenly distributing bass. The hood opening is protected by a mesh screen that keeps insects and small animals out while providing a constant flow of air around the driver. The outdoor subwoofer carries an IP58 weather-proof rating.
Power & Configuration: The subwoofer and satellite speakers each feature a built-in 3.5' section of rubberized speaker wire that's designed for direct burial applications (additional speaker wire sold separately). The subwoofer includes 2 sets of attached speaker wire, one for each 8-ohm voice coil, allowing it to be wired in a stereo or mono configuration. Each satellite speaker presents a 32-ohm load individually. Both feature optimized internal crossovers so that the subwoofer's impedance is not combined with the satellites. An amplifier with 15-400 watts per channel is recommended for powering the 8.1 sound system.
- Stereo Configuration: The subwoofer and satellites can be configured for stereo operation with a stereo amplifier (sold separately). Four satellites and one of the subwoofer's inputs can be parallel-wired to each channel of the amp for an 8-ohm stereo connection. 4-Conductor, direct-burial speaker wire (sold separately) is recommended for a stereo configuration.
- Mono Configuration: The speaker system can be powered from a single mono amplifier channel by combining the two subwoofer inputs along with the eight satellite speakers, presenting a 4-ohm load at the amplifier. 2-Conductor, direct-burial speaker wire (sold separately) is recommended for a mono configuration.
