About the Whirlwind IMP 2
Whirlwind's rugged and compact IMP 2 direct box gives you versatile options for connecting your instrument while ensuring transparent sound quality.
In live performance situations, a direct box (also sometimes called a "DI box" or just "DI") can come in handy for mixing the sound of a bass guitar or another electric instrument without having to put a mic on the player's amplifier onstage. Or it can be used to reduce AC ground loop noise. In a recording setting, a direct box lets you cleanly input high-impedance instrument-level signals into your USB interface or mixer. The IMP 2's loop-through 1/4" output allows flexible options for monitoring your performance.

Features
Overview: The Whirlwind IMP 2 is a premium direct box that converts a line or instrument level unbalanced signal to low impedance balanced mic level. The IMP 2, like the other Whirlwind direct boxes, is made in the USA at Whirlwind's facility in Rochester, NY.
Input/Outputs: The IMP 2 passive direct box has parallel 1/4" input/outputs with a male XLR output. The two 1/4" jacks provide an High Z input and a loop through for the source signal. Since they are wired in parallel, it makes no difference which one is used for input and output. The XLR jack provides a low-impedance (150Ω), balanced output for connection to a mixing console or workstation. The IMP 2 is equipped with Whirlwind's high quality TRHL transformer.
Ground/Lift Switch: The IMP 2 has a single switch on one side that disconnects the ground between the input and the XLR output when set to the Lift position. This helps to eliminate hum and buzz in the signal. In the Gnd position, the ground remains connected.
