"Trickle-down" speaker technology

The Bronze 2s borrow design features from Monitor's higher-end Silver and Gold speaker lines, so they deliver great performance for the money. Each cabinet houses a 1" gold dome tweeter for clear, detailed highs and realistic reproduction of instruments and vocals. They also use the same bolt-through driver attachment mechanism as the Silver and Gold lines. The result is smooth midrange and bass response from each speaker's 6-1/2" C-CAM woofer.

Monitor Audio Bronze 1 Bookshelf speakers

Monitor's gold dome tweeters deliver exceptional detail with music and movies.

If you're in the market for a speaker with "neutral-ish" sound then STOP reading reviews. Just buy these. You won't regret it. However... These are stubborn speakers. Be patient. They're harsh and boxy in the beginning, a little more than what I have experienced with others. The low end will open up after about 80+ hours. I got rid of my beloved SVS Ultra Bookshelves and got these instead. I don't regret it. You won't find better speakers for the price. Yes, what others say is accurate. Buy 2 pairs while you're at it.

Pros: About as good as it get for the price

Cons: Now I want more Monitor Audio speakers all over my house

Receiver: Pioneer VSX-516-K (crossover set at 80) Sub: Emotiva BASX S10 PlayStation 4 Pro (for games) Sony X800 4k Blu-ray player (for music and films) FILMS: Sicario, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, Interstellar. MUSIC: Depeche Mode, "Exciter" CD, Depeche Mode, "Ultra" CD, Maurice Ravel's "Bolero", CD. GAMES: Batman: Arkham City (PS4). They are the smallest of the bunch and possibly the lightest. I started off with a run through "Bolero" and was very impressed with the sound. The music sounded like it came from somewhere in front of me but not at me. The highs sounded just a tiny bit clearer on these than the Wharfedale. Both Depeche Mode albums sounded great but were just slightly brighter than the Wharfedale. I think I prefer the "brightness level" of the Wharfedale. The Batman scenes sounded great though a bit bright. Again, I think I preferred the Wharfedale, but when I played Interstellar, I didn't feel it was too bright. Could just be something that's going to vary from film to film. It handled Sicario and Interstellar very well, but if I'm remembering correctly, the Wharfedale sounded just slightly less bright in these areas. It was movie night with the family while testing these and we watched The Dark Knight and no one had issues with them. At the end of it, I loved them. After a couple more viewings, the speakers sounded perfect.

I really debated between these and the Bronze 1, but i am glad i chose these. They sound much better than I was expecting from a 'bookshelf' speaker. Unless you have a need for much bigger sound (and much bigger speakers) these are a great choice.

Pros: Plenty of sound

Cons: none

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Wow...super clear. Have not finished breaking them, but they already superb - I'm hearing things I haven't heard before, or just hearing them in a new way. The soundstage is great as well, I don't really hear the sound coming from the speakers themselves - they pretty much disappear into the room - and the stereo fields seems to be bigger than the distance between the two speakers . Vocals are super clear. Acoustic guitars sound really nice and 3d on these. Bass - I think for the most part, the bass is sufficient, but having used floor-standing speakers with built-in subs (Infinity Overture 3's), these leave a little be desired for me personally. However, considering these are fairly small/medium bookshelf speakers, I would not knock a star off, as I don't expect super LF extension from bookshelf speakers. So I will eventually pair these with a good sub. I should also add that my listening setup is not ideal, as these are sitting on a desk on some decouplers, but I'm guessing they would benefit from some better quality stands.

Pros: Super clear, nice open soundstage, good bass for the size, look great

Cons: none

Super sound!!!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

WOW.....great sound from such a small package! A friend recommended these to me, and I could not be more pleased with my purchase. They aren't even broken in yet, and sound amazing. These are for a 2 channel system in my garage (music only). I can't wait until they get more play time to get broken in. I know they will sound even better then. Got them in the "Scratch & Dent" sale on black Friday at a super price. Thanks Crutchfield!!!

Pros: Very nice set of speakers. Just what I was looking for.

Cons: None so far.

Great clarity and excellent construction

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was looking for a pair of speakers for my den for exclusively listening to music. I looked all over and found the reviews for these very convincing. I took the plunge and am quite happy with how they turned out. Very impressive detail to the sound. Its hard to describe but things just 'pop' with impressive clarity. The soundstage is detailed and I find the response very good. I don't see any need for a sub and I have these pretty close to a wall. If your goal was a more complete "home theater" experience you might want to add a sub. You do need to break these speakers in. I've had them for about a week and they just sound a better with every listen. They seemed incomplete sounding right out-of-the-box but I'm now a complete convert after playing them a couple hours a day for a week. In short, I highly recommend these speakers. They feel very well built and are heavier than I expected. I have them paired with a Onyko TX-8160 and listen to LPs, CDs, and Spotify through them, and am very pleased.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was looking to wall mount my front speakers to open up room in our small home without losing sound quality. Up to this point Paradigm has always been my choice as for years they have been the best bang for the buck. Recently in my quest for a smaller speaker that would still produce as close to the larger cabinet Monitor 3v2 Paradigm, I stopped in at a local place and listened to several options. I was impressed with the Monitor Audio Bronze 2 but the price was more than I wished to spend. Thankfully when I looked to my old friends here at Crutchfield for pricing I found them running a sale on the Bronze 2 and also found a better deal on an open box pair. Mounted them on the wall, balanced everything in, and threw in Star Wars Episode 7. WOW! I couldn't believe how these speakers came to life. They hold their own.

Pros: sensitivity, sound quality, size

Cons: none

Much better than average stand mount speaker

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

For the money they are great. Would recommend.

Pros: Pleasant sounding, very detailed for the price. They really don't do anything wrong.

Cons: Was spoiled with much more expensive Focal Chorus 705. The Focals have noticeably improved mid-range/3d presentation Monitor Audios can not touch in this area.

Happy with my purchase

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have had the Bronze 2 bookshelf speakers in my 2 channel system for two weeks. So far, I have been very happy with the way they sound. Mounted on 24" stands, the Bronze 2 look great and sound excellent with all the genres of music I've tried including rock, pop, classical, and jazz. Up until now, I have been using the well regarded Pioneer bookshelf speakers designed by Andrew Jones. Those speakers are terrific and a great value. However, the Bronze 2 have a bigger sound and take the performance of my system up a notch. They are easy to drive so my 50 watts per channel amp does just fine. The bass is tight with clear mids and highs that sound more extended to me in comparison to the Pioneers. They do benefit from a sub on some recordings but very little seems missing when I turn my subwoofer off. Crutchfield's service was helpful, expedient, and hassel free.

Pros: Well integrated sound with a wide frequency response in a bookshelf speaker that is easy to drive. They look great.

Cons: None

Crisp Clean Sound after break in

Monitor Audio Bronze 2

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'm not an audiophile, but to me, these speakers sound amazing. I have them paired with a Marantz NR1606 and this combination does movies and music extremely well in a mid sized room. Dispersion is wide so you have a lot of area to use as far as listening position goes. A subwoofer is (almost) optional as these put out pretty good bass. I find that for action movies that extra "oomph" from the sub is needed, but for music it is truly optional. Construction and finish are top quality.

Pros: Clear highs, great bass, wide dispersion.

Cons: None yet

1" C-CAM Gold Dome Tweeter: The newly designed 1" C-CAM Gold Dome Tweeter extends the Bronze 2 bookshelf speaker's frequency response to an ultra-sonic 30kHz, allowing the full reproduction of harmonic frequencies vital to the accurate reproduction of, say, the decay of a piano string or the crash of a hi-hat. Within the New Bronze tweeter, an innovative venting system allows air to flow outside the tweeter's magnet assembly into a rear loading chamber, preventing air from being compressed at the back of the dome for lower distortion, reduced mechanical resonance, and improved damping. Structural improvements in dome geometry and drive mechanism have boosted accuracy and extension at the top end of the tweeter's range as well, generating the extraordinary high frequency quality that helps to define the sound of Bronze 2 bookshelf loudspeaker.

6.5" 'Dished' C-CAM  Woofer: The newly designed 6.5" 'dished' C-CAM cone employs the entire cone surface to radiate more sound. Unbroken by the centre pole-piece aperture of conventional driver designs, the cone is inherently more rigid and efficient while being less prone to break-up under high drive conditions, resulting in exceptional detail resolution and life-like tonality. Ingeniously, the driver's voice coil is thermally coupled to the back of the cone, which draws heat away from the coil for better power handling and optimal operation at all volume levels.

C-CAM Technology: C-CAM driver technology is used throughout the Bronze series 2 bookshelf loudspeaker, providing coherent tonal balance and sonic signature across the entering audio frequency spectrum. Ceramic-Coated Aluminum/Magnesium is a material originally developed by the aerospace industry for jet engine components. Its properties are ideal for loudspeaker cones being extremely rigid, yet light enough to yield high overall efficiency. In manufacture, aluminum/magnesium alloy undergoes a three-stage stress-relieving process to remove surface deformation and molecular weakness. Once formed, the alloy driver is subjected to a high temperature anodic coating process in which a layer of pure ceramic alumina is depleted onto its surfaces to a depth of 50 microns, producing a completely rigid sandwich of alloy and heat-dissipating ceramic material. Conventional drivers are liable to flex or twist in operation, producing a significant level of audible distortion. C-CAM drivers have a much higher resistance to bending stress and therefore exhibit much greater fidelity over their entire operating range.

Single Through-Bolt Mount: The drivers are individually mounted on a through-bolt which fixes at the back of the cabinet and tensions the driver at the front. Cleverly this triple-action feature braces the cabinet structure for lower box coloration while removing the need for conventional front fixings, reducing unwanted driver/cabinet resonance and simultaneously boosting aesthetics

High Quality Crossover: The Monitor Audio Bronze 2 uses a high quality crossover (3,100Hz) with premium grade polypropylene film capacitors,  air core, and laminated steel core inductors for signal integrity.

HiVe Port Technology: The Bronze 2 features a bass reflex cabinet with a front-firing port that utilizes Monitor Audio's HiVe port technology for greater efficiency and bigger bass response from a compact bookshelf speaker. The HiVe bass reflex port is shaped to have the same effect on airflow as a gun-barrel on a bullet. Rifled grooves inside the port help to accelerate the flow and reduce turbulence, so air moves in and out of the port more efficiently, for a faster more dynamic bass response.

Note: If the bass is too boomy, you can insert the included foam port plug into the speaker's front-firing port to tighten and lessen the bass.

MDF Enclosure w/ Magnetic Grille: The Bronze 2 employs a MDF enclosure for accurate, uncolored sound. Rigid 18mm MDF construction is used throughout the enclosure with radial and cross-bracing techniques for high rigidity and low cabinet coloration. In addition, the bookshelf speaker comes with an acoustically transparent cloth grille that attaches magnetically.

Dual Gold-Plated Binding Posts: The bookshelf loudspeaker has two sets of gold-plated binding posts connected by wire-jumpers. The gold-plated binding posts will accept bare wire (up to 10AWG), pin connectors, & banana plugs (single only). Using the dual posts, you can bi-wire or bi-amp the speaker. Bi-wiring or bi-amping the speaker provides improved bass & treble performance. If you decide to bi-wire or bi-amp, you must remove the jumpers between the terminal posts (failure to do this could result in damage to your amplifier and loudspeakers).

  • Bi-Wiring: Bi-wiring can provide noticeable improvements in the overall transparency of your loudspeakers. Run separate speaker wires to the low & high frequency drivers from a single amplifier (the upper set of binding posts are for the high frequency drivers; the lower set of binding posts are for the low frequency drivers).
  • Bi-Amping: Bi-amping allows you to use separate amplifiers for the high & low frequency sections of your loudspeaker for greater dynamic range & lower distortion. We recommend that your separate amplifiers have identical gain to preserve the speaker's voicing balance.
Note: Pre-installed plastic inserts must be removed to utilize banana plugs (single only).

Mounting Options: The Bronze series 2 bookshelf loudspeaker can simply be mounted on top of a stand (sold separately; see accessory list), shelf, or table. The optional PinPoint heavy duty side-grip wall-mounting bracket (121AM41B, sold separately) can be used to wall mount the speaker.

Placement: When used in a stereo system or as front speakers in a home theater application, the listening position and the bookshelf loudspeakers should form an equilateral triangle. The speakers should be positioned approximately 6' to 10' apart. They ideally need to be between 8' to 18" away from the rear wall and 3' from the side walls. When used as surround speakers in a home theater application, the bookshelf speakers should be placed directly to the side or behind the main listening position, equidistant to the main listening position, and at ear level.

Bronze Series: Monitor Audio's Bronze series of loudspeakers consists of two floorstanding speakers (893BZ5B/893BZ6B), two bookshelf speakers (893BZ1B/893BZ2B), a center channel speaker (803BZCB), surround speaker (893BZFXB), and powered subwoofer (893BZW10B) - all sold separately.

Why did you buy this?

Great price , quality product. [ John  Dec 08, 2017 ]
I have some other MA speakers that I really like [ Carole  Nov 27, 2017 ]
I exhaustively searched reviews from consumers and pros on bookshelf speakers, and this was one pair that kept coming up as very highly rated and seemed to match what I was looking for. I have a very high-quality but relatively low powered integrated amp (Quad Vena 45 wpc) so I wanted a pair that had a pretty substantial sensitivity rating (90 dB). I also liked the size footprint and from what I could gain from most of the pictures I was able to see, the look of this speaker. [ J  Nov 25, 2017 ]
Product of the year at What hi-fi [ David  Nov 25, 2017 ]
good online reviews. Price and size. [ Ed  May 01, 2017 ]
Had displaced set of Focal 706 (wonderful speakers!!!) made in France, but could not afford them at this time. Monitor Audio's reviews were very high. The UK press and North American press always to positive reports. [ Jeffrey  Jan 07, 2017 ]

I can't help you here. I returned the bronze 2's. [ Ed  Aug 15, 2018 ]
I have my Bronze 2's connected to a Yamaha A-S501 integrated amp, and I don't find them to be overly bright at all. They are well balanced, with good bass response and I can listen to them all day with out it getting fatiguing. Using a MacMini connected to the Yamaha via Toslink as my music server with music files ripped with Apple's Lossless ALAC format. Not sure how well the A-S501 amp matches up with Yamaha's Network receiver though. [ David  Aug 15, 2018 ]
Didnt have enough depth for me sent thim back! [ ALONZO  Aug 15, 2018 ]
I am running these as fronts on theater system with a Yamaha RX-A1070. Not harsh in the highs by any means. Full sound for their size in a 13x15 room with carpet. My wife wanted the front speakers off the floor so these replaced a pair of Paradigm Monitor 3 series on 36" stands. I am sold on Paradigm....well I was until I heard these at a local dealer who also carries Paradigm. I am equally impressed. Lows down to 60hz no problem. Highs are pleasant like the Paradigms without being harsh and tinny. Very happy with them. [ CHARLES  Aug 15, 2018 ]
I didn't notice but you should test it by yourself. [ Viorel  Aug 15, 2018 ]
You will love these speakers no matter what you match them up with. You just can't beat these speakers in this price range! [ JIM  Aug 15, 2018 ]
I paired the RN-602 with the monitor audio bronze 2 and the sound awesome together. Not too bright at all. I upgraded to Elac floorstander recently however. I highly recommend the pairing however. [ Derin  Aug 15, 2018 ]
The Bronze 2's have a great midrange and a solid low end. They sound better and better everyday. You would be missing out on a super hi-fi bargain if you didn't give them a try!!! [ John  Aug 15, 2018 ]
Hey Roy, I'm sorry but i have Walmut Vinyl. I believe I initially ordered Black ones but changed my decision before the shipment. As far as the sound they are awesome. And you can't beat the customer service of CRUTCHFIELD. [ Jigar  Aug 15, 2018 ]
