I have had many in-ceiling speakers over the years. I tend to now stick with either Monitor Audio or Golden Ear speakers as they both provide outstanding sound and quality. The lifetime warranty is certainly a bonus as well with these. The C380-IDC are the most well rounded in-ceiling speakers I have ever heard by a lot. The midrange driver really fills out the sound to the point that all in-ceilings I purchase going forward will be 3 ways. I have a pair of these matched with an SVS 3000 Micro in our master, and they continue to impress. As with other in-ceiling, these are very easy to install. The sound was amazing out of the box, and they continue to improve with the break-in period. For reference, I usually listen to lossless audio on these with some ocassional Pandora. I do not currently have a backbox installed with these but plan to do one in the future. Bravo Monitor Audio!
Pros: Easy install Amazing sound out of the box Outstanding balance Lifetime warranty
Cons: Pricey

Monitor Audio C380-IDC Speakers

Earlier this year, I purchased two of these speakers, upon the recommendation of a Crutchfield Specialist, to replace Bozak speakers, that I had installed in a drop down ceiling in my living room, fifty years ago. Fifty years ago, Bozak speakers were top of the line stereo speakers. I loved listing to my Bozak speakers, but after fifty years, they started loosing their sound quality. The drop down ceiling is backed by 2 x 6's, and is rock solid. I made frames out of kiln dried clear pine, and mounted the Monitor speakers in the frames, the same way they would have been mounted in the ceiling. I used paint sticks, cut to 1/2 inch width and length of the frames, as shims to compensate for the thickness of the Monitor speakers. I was then able to screw the frames, with the attached Monitor speakers, to the 2 x 6's drop down ceiling. I am driving these speakers, with a McIntosh MC 2002 amplifier ( 300 watts per channel at 6 ohms), and a McIntosh C29 preamplifier, that has recently been recapped and rebuilt, by a McIntosh Authorized Repair Center. I listen to these speakers, sometimes for two or three hours at a time, and could not be more pleased. They sound fantastic, and I was able to install them in my drop down ceiling. I am not one to write reviews, but I could not pass up writing a review for these speakers, since no one else has done so.
Pros: High quality speakers. Excellent sound. Easy to listen to.
Cons: None
