Great all-purpose speaker, no speciality
Paul from Hanover, NH on 3/29/2022
Like a great all-mountain ski, like a good cross country mountain bike, a sweet and savory snack, a dog that will hike for miles but will be chill just hanging on the couch, a speaker of many talents. This speaker has excellent bass and articulate highs. Most importantly it delivers on vocals, with its dedicated midrange driver (which the Bronze series was unable to accomplish for me). This is a fun speaker that does it all. Sounds great with music but is articulate enough for dialogue in movies. So, what's the downside? I found the sound of both the Monitor Audio Bronze and Silver series to give a metallic resonance to human voices. Obviously we can't make speaker cones out of whatever vocal chords are made of, that would be too heavy, not to mention expensive and, well, strange. So aluminum is a popular option. It is lightweight, rigid, cost effective and punchy. Woven fibers may sound a little softer and "warmer", maybe a little more "natural" but may lack that engaging punch. Polymers might have some snap but lack warmth. Paper may be very articulate, detailed and warm but may become distorted at high volumes. Does aluminum work for most applications? Yes! Does Monitor Audio implement it better than many others? Yes! In the end this speaker didn't connect with me. I am going to dip my ears into the market of soft dome tweeters and non-metal mid-drivers and see if that gives me the sound I'm searching for.
Pros: The sound is great, bass is weighty and punchy, mids are articulate, highs are snappy. Would be a good dual purpose music/movie speaker.
Cons: This speaker needs a lot of space from the wall, the rear port needs a lot of room to breath (once set right though, they sound great!). The aluminum midrange driver, while articulate and detailed, gave a metallic resonance to vocals and dialogue (in my opinion). I'm going to try for another speaker with softer materials in the tweeter and mid driver.

New Silver 300
Joel from Pensacola, FL on 1/8/2022
Bought these 7th generation monitor audio silver 300s after having one of the first generation models! Sound is definitely better! Bigger sound stage more definition but not as harsh as my previous model! Midrange is different and better! Female voices are smoother. The walnut veneer in these are more natural looking but im not sure id say the finish is as good as the old model. I think the finish on the old ones is smoother just better quality. The old ones are also heavier so not sure if that is positive or negative! Like i said overall sound is just better in the new ones! I really enjoy listening to them more!
