A big splash

If you haven't heard of Audiofrog yet, here's what you need to know – there's no one like them. We know, because we put their speakers to the test, side by side with some of the most celebrated car speakers in car audio. Track after track, with music that spanned many genres, Audiofrog's speakers made our jaws drop.

It's no coincidence. Audiofrog was founded by car audio veterans, who have been on the front lines of audio innovation for 30 years and have a rich, colorful history of crafting award-winning, custom car installations. Drawing on that substantial experience and their practical knowledge of what makes a great speaker, Audiofrog has created a no-nonsense, high-quality car audio line. While their speakers will fit into a large number of vehicles, Audiofrog's emphasis is definitely on custom installations.

GB40 with no grille

Audiofrog provides a versatile bezel for custom installations, or simply unscrew and remove the speaker from the bezel to install in factory locations.

The toughest speaker in town

Audiofrog's GB25 2-1/2" midrange speaker sits in your palm with the weight of a stone -- there's not one plastic part in this speaker. Cast zinc housing protects the treated paper cone, which delivers all the complex midrange nuances that define the character of instruments and vocals. A copper polepiece cap helps extend frequency response and reduce distortion, making this little speaker a tough one to beat.

Such an efficient design puts the GB25 near the top of its class in the realm of power handling, with a rating of up to 100 watts RMS. Add in Audiofrog's grueling standards for real world speaker testing, and you can trust that the GB25 will live a very long life in your car.

Built for custom installations

Audiofrog was founded by experienced installers, who know all the pitfalls and shortcuts of custom installations. With the included metal mounting hardware, you'll find custom fabrication of a speaker location much easier. The all-metal finish of the GB25s removable ring can be polished, painted or upholstered, depending on your vision for your interior. The grilles are ideal for painting as well.

First off they sound great. But there are others that do that too, this is a one of a kind driver: small, large xmax, low distortion, power handling, and flexible installation. There is nothing out there that equals it. Some come close, such as Illusion Audio, Hybrid Audio, and ScanSpeak, but the others require compromises somewhere.

These gb25 are amazing when paired with a gb10. They perform just as great as the gb40 when mounted inside a pop can size enclosure on the dash. Upper midrange happiness

Pros: 2 1/2 inch mid that outperforms most 4 inch mods when mounted correctly

Cons: Dimensions in manual are a little off

Cons: Price- ... so be it

Hands-on research

Product Research

Durability: The Audiofrog GB25 midrange drivers are tested in temperature and humidity extremes, as well as under vibration to simulate 50,000 miles of operation in a vehicle. The Nitrile-Butadiene Rubber (NBR) surround is resistant to ultraviolet rays, temperature extremes, and humidity to add to the speaker's reliability and longevity.

Multi Component Systems: Audiofrog matches sensitivity to voltage across all the midrange drivers in the GB series, making system tuning easy in multi-component systems. The GB25 is designed to mate with the GB10 tweeter (item number 898GB10, sold separately) using the GB2510C passive crossover (item number 898GB2510C, sold separately), and can also be used in active systems with the GB60 midrange (item number 898GB60, sold separately) and the GB10 or GB15 tweeter (item number 898GB15, sold separately) using an electronic crossover.

Note: The GB25 requires a band pass crossover. Audiofrog recommends a high pass setting no lower than 200 Hz and a low pass setting no higher than 12 kHz. The minimum recommended slope for both is 12 dB/octave.

Enclosure: If an enclosure is built for the GB25, Audiofrog recommends the internal volume be at least 0.624 liters (0.022 ft³).

Installation: Hardware is included for several mounting methods. The drivers can be top mounted behind factory grilles, top mounted using the included grilles along with the grille trays and backing rings, or bottom mounted using the included grilles and backing rings.

Screw Terminals: The screw terminals will accommodate up to 14-gauge speaker wire.

Dimensions: When not using a factory grille:

  Top Mounted Bottom Mounted
Frame Diameter 4.476" (front mounting ring) 4.123" (rear mounting ring)
Cut-Out Diameter 2.217" 3.4"
Mounting Depth 1.515" 1.741"
Mounting Height 0.95" 0.45"

Wonderful midrange in a 3 or 4 way set up. Voices sound natural and the speaker was simply installed in my Tacoma's door with no enclosure built. [ M  Feb 08, 2017 ]
Excellent company with awesome speakers [ Charles  Dec 04, 2016 ]
Because of the high RMS value and the reputation of the brand. I have high end stereo parts in this car and wanted some quality speakers, as the Pioneer "completion series" failed me [ William  Jun 24, 2016 ]
